What RW scugs would taste like blended into a smoothie
Survivor: Vanilla Yogurt. Factory setting of a scug, factory setting of a smoothie (/milkshake at this point)
Monk: Coconut+Banana+Vanilla. Consider this, Vanilla is the flavor of their sibling (makes sense), they themselves are banana-coded, and the coconut is just in there for extra zest. Is it somewhat basic? Yes. Because Monk is somewhat basic. (By the way I know most smoothies involve Banana, but if I say Banana then it's specifically flavored as such)
Hunter: Lemon+Strawberry+Ginger. Hunter can't just taste normal- Honestly, realistically, it would be nasty- Because of the Rot, y'know. Anyways, bitter, a smidge spicy, but still red/pink with smoothie sweetness.
Nightcat: Sesame+Blueberries. Just about as black as a smoothie can get. Not very sweet; the taste overall just isn't all that intense. Most interesting feature is the texture. Alternatively, Oreo milkshake! But you know. That's licherally just a milkshake.
Gourmand: PB+Peach+Mango+Yogurt. The return of the yogurt flavor, not because of any relation, I just think Gourmand would be a thicker smoothie (/milkshake.. again). Creamy flavor yk. Same reason for the (smidge of) peanut butter... The fruit are both round and exude good vibes. I could also see Melon or Honeydew btw.
Rivulet: Battery Acid. Okay maybe he'd have blue raspberry flavor or something, but it would definitely be synthetic-feeling. Put some sour powder in there. Or some salt. Some energy drink in there. What the fuck is this drink???? Is it a milkshake??? a smoothie???? an affront to all that is holy??? FUCK IF I KNOW I don't make drinks
Spearmaster: Grape+Watermelon. A light and fresh drink... To perhaps be enjoyed with long biscuits, or perhaps some white chocolate sticks (whatever you call those). You can use it to drink your prescription medicine, just like Spearmaster after going to their therapist!
Artificer: Pomegranate+Blackberry+Cayenne Pepper. An honestly slighty fucked up smoothie with a deep red color. Doesn't go easy on the spice, more than you'd expect from just Cayenne, probably. The more it makes you feel like YOUR spit can turn a spear explosive, the better <3
Saint: Kale+Avocado+Banana. Yes this is a type of smoothie that exists... Kinda?? Anyways, it probably sorta tastes like grass, it's filling and could probably count as a dinner smoothie perhaps? It won't really keep you warm, it's a smoothie after all, but maybe you'll turn green afterwards
Enot: Mystery Sauce. It tastes different the longer it's in your mouth, and then the aftertaste is yet again something different. It kind of tastes like medicine, yet sweet, yet also flat sometimes. Thick smell and kinda looks oily <:(

Providence food so far:
Tallulah’s Taqueria: 9/10. Yes, $5/taco is a lot but basically each double-shelled taco is stuffed with the filling of 2 normal taqueria tacos so it’s not as bad as it sounds. I got Barbacoa, carnitas, cameron, and al pastor. The barbacoa was perfect, so saucy and deeply flavored. The carnitas was great, not at all dry like carnitas often are. The al pastor was a bit tough and basically just in a tomato sauce—no pineapple in sight and also not very spicy. Kind of disappointing. The fried shrimp in the cameron was very heavily breaded but it came with a really good guacamole so I can’t complain. The tacos were served with crispy pickled radish which was a great contrast to the rich meats. Definitely would go back.
Denden Cafe Asiana: 5/10. This place has the right idea but the real magic of Korean food, in my wildly unqualified opinion, is the banchan, and they were deeply stingy on that front. I ordered the short rib bbq and it was overly sweet, almost sticky, tough, and served with a tiny scoop of rice and a literal thimbleful of kimchi. And nothing else. No spinach, no potato salad, no bean sprouts, no cucumbers… boring. Frankie got the beef hotpot with sweet potato noodles and the textures were good but it was once again very sweet. Our appetizer was the best part of the meal, actually—we got a seafood pancake kind of like okonomiaki and it was delicious! I reheated the leftovers today and ate them with mayonnaise and sriracha (which is how we used to eat them in LA) and it was great.
Rasoi: 4/10. This Indian place on the east side was recommended to me by 3 separate people so I was excited to go there but it was very disappointing. The saag paneer was very bland, almost tasteless and not at all spicy, and much worse, imo, the naan was bland. It honestly felt like eating a buttery pita bread. Which like. I like pita breads. But naan should be dense and slightly sour from the yeast and yogurt, and a little burnt from the tandoor. Idk. The pakoras were good though-- they were made from kale, Brussels sprouts, and onion in a chickpea batter and were perfectly crisp and crunchy and spicy. I honestly want to give this place another chance because so many people recommended it and maybe their non-veg dishes are better? But yeah, disappointing.
Seven Stars Bakery: 10/10. Ok obviously I am the person who would eat bread and pastry for every meal if I didn’t need vegetables so of course I love this place. The lattes are spectacular, the pastries are perfect (so far have tried the ham & cheese croissant and the koign-amann), and the bread is so good. My first week here I bought the walnut-raisin bread, and this week I am working on a small loaf of Vermont cheddar bread and honestly I don’t know which one is my favorite. I will just have to go back and buy a tiebreaker loaf. I wish I lived here solely for this bakery. Honestly. It would be worth it.

If i remember correctly you mentioned a while ago you were Haitian american (if not I'm really sorry for misremembering and pls feel free to correct me or ignore this ask!). If you are, I was wondering what some of you favourite Haitian dishes/food are. One of the characters in my story is of Haitian descent and I was doing some research on Haitian cuisine and it looks delicious. As a black woman and a foodie at heart I always love to research cuisines from different places in the world. I have tried Jamaican and Dominican food before, since I have quite a few Jamaican and Dominican family friends, but I've never tried Haitian food before. Do you have any recomendations that I should give a try?
You are most correct, anon! I am Haitian American. And do I ever!
It is as delicious as it looks.
We have sme similarities with Dominican food, obviously; but a lot of the difference is in how foods are done/cooked. Of course, person by person, region by region it will be different -- I've had the same food taste different in my own family (and it is sometimes a matter of person x and person y were both taught by person b, for example). But from my observation (and limited recollection -- it has been a while since I've had dominican food), things like the spices we use or how we cook our rice definitely differ.
Since I'm talking about spices, the thing to try is epis. I don't know WHAT it is made of - you can probably find receipes in Google - but it is a staple in many dishes. I saw it is similar to Dominican sazon? I'm not sure how accurate that is, but that might give yoou a base. It's basically a mix of spices and used to cook things like chicken, soups, meats, etc. I'm sure there are people who use it for everything.
Speaking of things people use for everything: Pikliz. Again, a thing that varies per household - it can be tangy, sour, or spicy. Generally though, it's spicy spicy or a spicy sour. And you can literally put it on anything (not sweet obviously -- or I don't know, to eacch their own). I LOOOOVE pikliz. It's like a relish, it has cabbage in it, the ingredients you'd probably see in a slaw. You can eat it with your meat, you can eat it with your rice. Like epis, you can cook the food with it but often enough people put it like a condiment. I personally love it on fried plantain.
Speaking of: we have banan peze (literally pressed bananas) - which is fried plantain flattened. It can be sweet or not. You have that with pikliz. Another popular food to eat by itself (or with pikliz) is griot, a type of pork. Or tassot (often goat but google says people have it as beef). A whole meal could be pikliz on the side, griot or tassot (or a sauceless chicken), banan peze and some rice.
Haitians LOVE their rice. Like, oh my goodness. Honestly, I know some Haitians that could have rice breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And maybe a snack. The main rices I recall are: white rice usually had with 'sos pwa' (beans ... sauce, I guess). There's black beans, red beans, or peas. Sos pwa can be had as a soup or, like I said, with the rice. Usually as a topping. Then there is diri kole avec pwa (probably saying it wrong, actually forgive all my creole spellings, I know most of these terms by sound/verbal) - which is basically rice and beans. Usually red beans and the rice comes out a nice brownish-red color. Or diri jonjon - which makes the rice come out black, and people often add shrimp. But there can also be like peas in it or black beans. Seafood - typically fish - can be had with the rice too by the way, but discussing the type of seafoods would take too long. I WILL say lambi is a big, BIG thing in Haiti -- lambi is a type of conch. Or just conch, idk.
I'm going to speed run through some appetizers and sweets, or else this will take forever. If you have more questions just let me know!
There is haitian patties - which is different style from jamaican patties or an empanada. But it typically has beef or chicken in it; it can also have types of fish or spinash. Fritai is also a thing, which is various fried foods.
Sweets: Diri Au Lait is my fave as a kid, and still. AK100 (a blended corn drink). Haitian cake is great. We have various fudges made of nuts and stuff.
Drinks: cola champagne is a favorite.
A quick look at this shows it's not inaccurate. Though it might be overwhelming. But it covers a lot of the stuff I missed, then you only asked for my faves :-D (which I still am missing a lot but thats a good starter I feel, lol.)

I'm in Missouri, Midwest USA (find the Mississippi River on a map and go about halfway between Canada and the Gulf of Mexico)
This is a pretty typical 2-3x monthly grocery shop for me and my kiddo (age 11):
We don't have a range/oven because the one that was here when we moved in was over 60 years old and nothing functioned reliably/correctly so we sold it to a recycler. But we get by with these:
We usually have a decent pantry supply of flour, rice, dry beans, rolled oats, peanut butter, honey, jam, canned tomatoes/sauce, and canned milk (we're lactose intolerant so it's mostly for baking). And a variety of herbs, spices, seasonings.
Pasta is a challenge without a cooktop, so we often use ramen noodles for pasta dishes.
Our most common snack food is popcorn, and we just buy a massive jar of kernals once a year and pop it in a microwave bowl, or in a pot over an outdoor fire.
We grow collard greens & green onions most of the year, except the worst of winter and summer. If you're not familiar, collard greens are similar to kale, but flatter leaves. You can eat them raw in salad, especially if you pick the leaves young, but you can also cook them like spinach, or even make "crisps" which we do in the toaster oven.
We do get tortilla chips during the MLS (professional soccer) season because before covid, we used to go to a sports bar/pub to watch and we always got nachos there. So now we make them at home 😊
Sometimes I get pretzels and sour cream for kiddo and friends when they're having a game or movie night. But they will also eat carrots like a pack of rabbits and I've taught them all how to peel their own - so I don't have to do it or buy the more expensive peeled ones (which go bad so much faster if they don't consume them at once).
We do eat fast food once a week when kiddo has therapy. The timing of the appointment makes it tough to get fed and for me to get to work in the afternoon, and it helps as an incentive when kiddo doesn't particularly want to leave the house. It's usually a junior burger for each of us and small fries to share. And I get a sweet tea that I can sip on through my work shift. That's about $12, which compared to our other groceries is quite a difference.
Kiddo makes most of their own meals, and is adept at using all of our small appliances. Because of sensory issues, we both make our own meals to our liking. I do a lot of potatoes and rice, kiddo does a lot of noodles and things on bread or tortillas. Kiddo prefers eggs for protein and I prefer beans.
We probably order a pizza once a month and we buy two - one to eat right away and one to freeze for later. Very occasionally we get Chinese takeout (which I can stretch with homemade rice, eggs & veggies to last for a surprisingly long time. Sometimes I freeze that into single servings that we can grab for an easy reheat meal.
There's also a few chicken and fish places nearby, and we get that a few times a year when we're really craving protein.
Idk how typical our experience is, kiddo's friends don't seem to find it weird, but we're all in the same socioeconomic class so even though some are black and some are white I think we generally eat the same types of foods and shop at the same place (Aldi, just a couple blocks away).
Most of us are single parent/grandparent households where it's more of a "fend for yourself" situation where maybe the adult preps meals or parts of meals once a week and things get put together as needed and kids are doing at least some parts of the food prep/cooking.
A lot of American cooking is really quite French and it has been for centuries and I used to not know that and everyone talked up French cooking so much and then I started actually looking into it and I was like. I. Cook like this. Everyone I know cooks like this. This is just butter. It’s butter, Michael. It’s butter. You were hyping up butter. I can already do this.

probably 10, when i went vegan my adopters stopped cooking for me at all. All i had to eat was any extra potatoes or salad they made, so i had to learn to cook on my own. i was self-taught.
when i wasn't vegan egg sandwiches, chicken sandwiches on white bread, and i also got salami veggie sandwiches from subway. after going vegan (and before being diagnosed celiac) it's pb&j's and grilled cheese
around 4spoons of sugar. sometimes i add soymilk sometimes i don't. i usually don't.
take out and to go. take out is what i say to describe the food 'im eating takeout'. to go is what i say to describe the order 'im getting it to go.'

cook. depending on the meal it can be really easy. dishes suck even for myself.

Surprisingly, all my requests so far were for Bucky, lol. I will write them out, but I'm not a super fast writing so please have patience. Hope you liked this one! <3
Ever since the events in Sokovia, you have felt very protective of your teammembers. The fight had caused many innocent deaths and you could feel that weight on your shoulders. You could beat yourself up for how selfish that had been. You also felt the pain that your teammates felt. It was a hard time for all of you.
When Ross had shown you and the other Avengers the Sokovia Accords, you immediately thought it was best to sign it. But when Steve came up with good arguments for his side, you started to doubt your decision. Tony had been begging you to see his side as well, but you couldn't. You were pretty much in the middle, unable to decide whether to sign or not.
Even though the team basically split up, you were still friends with all of them. Tony and Steve were your best friends, it was impossible to chose a side. You were glad they were still on speaking terms with you. It would break your heart to lose them.
However, Tony kept trying to get you on his side. "Y/N, you have to choose. You can't be in the middle of this." He rolled his deskchair around nervously.
"I can and I will, Tones. I don't want to fight this out with my friends!" You were pacing around the room, your arms crossed over your chest tightly.
Tony sighed. "If you don't want to fight, you should be on my team." He looked up at you expectantly.
You dragged a hand through your hair. It was impossible to talk to Tony like this. He was too damn stubborn. "I'm not doing this, Tony. I'm done talking."
You walked away, but a hand on your wrist stopped you. You looked down to Tony in his chair, who was clutching your arm tightly. "Okay, fine, that conversation is over." He said. "But can you do one tiny thing for this old man?" He gave you puppy eyes which you could never resist.
You dragged out a long sigh. "What do you want?"
He put on a painful smile. "Please make sure Wanda stays in the compound at all times." He said quickly and batted his lashes to try and convince you, but you swatted his hand away when you heard what he asked.
"What? You want me to babysit Wanda?" You yelled. "Tony, she learned from her mistakes already!" You and Wanda had gotten closer and closer after Sokovia. She felt devastated by the troubles she caused and you wanted to be there for her as much as you could. You didn't intent you babysit her, though.
Tony looked defeated. "I know, but the last time she decided for herself..." He didn't finish that sentence. "Listen, all you have to do is make sure that she and everyone else is safe." He begged.
You thought for a moment. You wouldn't mind staying with Wanda, it's just that you didn't want her to feel like she's trapped. You were by her side when she caused the building to explode and you saw how much fear she held in her eyes. Afterwards, back in the compound, she wouldn't leave her room for days. You wished she wouldn't blame herself so much.
"Alright, fine." You threw up your hands in defeat. "This doesn't mean I'm on your side now." You warned as you saw how happy he was.

"Hey, Wanda." As soon as you walked into the kitchen, you smelled the food Wanda was making. The smell of the spices made you smile. You leaned onto the counter next to Wanda and watched closely as she stirred some type of sauce in the pan.
She smiled your way when she added another ingredient to the dish she was cooking. You secretly tasted some of the sauce. You couldn't help but close your eyes when the taste spread over your tongue. When you opened them, Wanda looked at you with a wide grin. "Like it?"
"Very." You chuckled. You were glad to have Wanda on the team. Not just because she's very sweet, but also because her cooking skills are the best. You really missed having a nice breakfast. The either burnt or undercooked pancakes Bucky made were not your favourite.
Wanda looked around the spices and ingredients on the kitchen counter. "Where is the sour cream?" She said more to herself. "I don't have sour cream." She sighed.
"You don't need sour cream to make this. I bet it tastes just as good." You shrugged.
She gave you a weird look. "Have you ever cooked anything?" She playfully smacked your arm. You rolled your eyes. Wanda went and grabbed her coat. "I'm just gonna grab some from the store, really quick. Please stir the sauce for me." She gave you her charming smile.
You quickly stood in front of her and blocked her path. "I can get it for you. So that, uh, you can tend to your sauce." You stammered. You hated to do this to her and you honestly had no idea why you agreed to keep her in the compound.
She had a funny look on her face. "Oh, no, I can go. I know exactly what I need from the store."
You had to think quick. Just as she wanted to push past you, you put your arm on the wall behind her and basically trapped her against it. "Can't you just stay here?"
"Y/N... are you not letting me leave?" She looked offended, which you totally understood.
You kept your hand against the wall, deep inside not willing to move away from her. "I just want you to be safe." You whispered. You saw goosebumps rising on the skin of her neck and you felt satisfied with your influence on her.
"I can protect myself." You saw a flicker in her eyes. An emotion you have never seen from her. She was frozen against the wall and her teeth dug into her bottom lip as she looked at you through her lashes.
You swallowed thickly. "What can I do to make you want to stay?" You smirked. Your other hand reached up to hold her waist carefully. Your grip wasn't too hard, in case she didn't want this. You could see in her eyes, however, that she wanted to stay.
To your surprise, he bucked her hips up to yours. No words left her mouth as she flushed red and put a hand on the back of your neck. She pulled you down to her face, but you resisted, not completely satisfied with her answer. "Use your words. What do you want me to do?" You breathed onto her plump lips.
"Kiss me." That was enough for you to smash your lips to hers in a rough kiss that made your heart do a front flip. It was intense. Her hands were either on your neck or in your hair, her hips were grinding against yours, the friction causing her to let out soft sighs on your lips. You dug your nails into the skin of her waist while you explored her mouth with your tongue.
She wanted more and wrapped her leg around your waist in an attempt to get even closer to your body. Your hands snaked down to her ass and gave it a light smack. She giggled against your mouth and you bit her lip to shut her up.
Your hands were needy as they dived underneath her top and touched every bit of skin you had access to. Her sighs were starting to sound like moans. The kiss was so sloppy and filled with the most need and want you ever felt. Your nipples grew hard when they pushed against her chest.
You had to back away for a deep breath, when you sniffed what smelled like burning. Your eyes went wide and you noticed that Wanda smelled it too. The two of you twisted your heads to see the sauce in the pan on the stove bubbling wildly, threatening to spill on the counter.
Wanda rushed to the stove and turned it off. Her cheeks were still coated in a red flush and her lips were plump from kissing. She looked absolutely beautiful to you.
She laughed. "Where were we?"

Interesting FE16 world-building (?) tidbits, found through food and menus
or i was hungry : the post
Nabateans have no taste, Zanado fruit is described as “inedible” but apparently golden Zanado fruit is rad, so idk. Is it a Zanado fruit specially harvested for human tastes?
Saghert & Cream : “ A baked confection with Noa fruit cream and a currant reduction, often enjoyed as a dessert at family gatherings.”
Noa fruit --> smthg smthg Noa, and Noa’s crest is apparently making Constance able to grow flowers (or to make plants bloom)? Are Noa fruits specific to Western Adrestia, or are they found everywhere? But since it’s a common dessert enjoyed at “family gatherings” I suppose Noa fruits are kind of common and/or not that expensive. Noa crested people make a lot of fruits and control the production of Noa fruits in the continent? But even if they have a monopoly on Noa fruits they think it’s more profitable to sell them at a rather low price than to treat it as a delicacy?
Sweet Bun Trio : “ Traditional pastries from Faerghus, known for their subtle sweetness. The dough is made with eggs and sugar.”
Important to note : this is made with Noa fruits (lel) and Albinean berries. So, traditionaly, Faerghus traded with Albinea to get fruits to fill their donuts/buns? Otoh, if the taste is rumoured to be subtle, Sylvain apparently doesn’t find it so awesome because he has that infamous “food from my own country sucks”. And yet he still like Faerghus’s sweet buns, so...
Pheasant Roast with Berry Sauce : “ Well-roasted Fodlan pheasant drizzled with a berry reduction sauce”.
Again, made with Albinean berries. Are they sweet or sour? Pheasants are eaten by a majority of nobles, but some commoners like it too, Raph (duh), Mercedes, Cyril and Flayn.
Peach Sorbet : “ A sorbet made with thin slices of magically frozen peach, dusted with bean flour”.
Made with, uh, peaches, and chickpeas (?).
Here comes Fodlan’s magic, in that world, people waste i mean use magic to bake/make funny food. If peaches are “magically frozen” then they musn’t be “naturally frozen” (well...) so this dish wasn’t originally from Faerghus. Maybe it’s an Adrestian delicacy and imperial mages are used, during peaceful times, as hired freezers?
Beast Meat Teppanyaki : “ A dish that tastes like wilderness. Thick slices of meat covered with Noa fruit and grilled on a hotplate”
Here another menu graced by House Nuvelle’s graces
Otoh, “beast meat” like... are they using meat from the various monsters? Or, worse, demonic beasts? But then, given what they used to be... not so odd to note, no nabatean likes this meal
Pickled Rabbit Skewers : “ Hunks of rabbit meat are pickled in bacchus, skewered, and roasted over an open flame to create this flavorful dish”
Finally someone cooking something with wine i mean - The only other mention of bacchus we had in the game was in the description of the Feast in Rhea’s trashy novel, apparently “fine bacchus” comes from Boramas, a territory of the Empire not that far from Enbarr. Given how Faerghus’ climate seems a bit too cold for wine, it must grow in the alliance/empire. So this dish is a southern (well) one?
Daphnel Stew : “Minced poultry and onions boiled with salt. The simple recipe lets high-quality ingredients speak for themselves.”
We have high-quality ingredients in Daphnel, like Raddest Chicken (tm) and Best Salt (tm)? Or onions, you can’t cook without onions.
Or was Daphnel a great cook back in the day? Idk. Still, the alliance seems to be proud of their local products? First Count Gloucester with his sheep, and now Daphnel and their salt - i mean poultry! No one’s famous for their salt, save for, maybe, the guys from Bergliez with the Kingdom and the Alliance said “thks bye” to Adrestia
Gronder Meat Skewers : “ Fatty hunks of Gronder fox cooked slowly on skewers. The meat is magically aged for a full flavor.”
??? Fodlan people eat foxes? Ingredient list requires “wild game” and onions, but still... We all know how Guinivere’s baby fox would have ended then, or an AU where Kaden pops up in Fodlan.
However, here’s the second instance where Magic is used to alter an ingredient’s flavour. How do they “magically” age meat? Can that spell be used on living things to make them decay? It is a Hel “lite”?
Apparently, Cichol was rumoured to have blessed the Gronder Fields with good harvests, but randoms were tired to eat bread every day so they wanted to eat foxes. Not so oddly enough (?) Nabateans aren’t fond of that dish.
Derdriu-Style Fried Pheasant : “ Pheasant meat is pounded flat and fried. Can be served as a sort of sandwich, with cheese between two strips of meat.”
Fried chicken comes from the Alliance people, and from Derdriu that is to say, from the Riegans. They created fast food, or KFC’s Double Down.
Edel made a wise choice in attacking them and removing the Riegans from the continent in CF
Interesting to note, Hanneman, Manuela and Seteth are fond of this. You cannot write a modern AU without them ordering something at KFC now, you cannot.
Vegetable Pasta Salad : “Pasta with a blend of fresh vegetables from various regions of Fódlan. This popular dish sells out almost instantly.”
Much more healthy! And also more popular? Everyone loves pasta! And does it mean everyone in Fodlan makes their own version of this dish with their local variants (cabbage in Faerghus?) or there are trading routes in the continent where Faerghus’ cabbage can be easily bought by Dude Von Random in the Empire if he wants to eat that salad?
Onion Gratin Soup : “ Onions stewed with white trout and baked with a layer of cheese on top. Will warm you up from the inside out.”
The trout. Why the trout. Given how nearly everyone from Faerghus is fond of this dish (Linhardt and Marianne are the only non-kingdom students to like it) I’d say it comes from the North, and I remember Gautier being a famous place for “Gautier Cheese”. Also a dish that warms you from the inside would be conceived in a place where it’s cold? Or it’s some sort of comfort food.
Country-Style Red Turnip Plate : “ A balanced meal including red turnip and verona stew, red turnip salad, and sautéed red turnip with garlic.”
Mostly appreciated by Imperial students, this meal looks healthy, again. Maybe they have a lot of turnips in the Empire, idk. Cichol mixed beetroots and turnips and thought they could give sugar to the empire with all those beetroots but welp they have a crapton of turnip fields now and you can’t make anything with turnips but those silly humans still found a way to accomodate them?
Vegetable Stir-Fry : “A dish of dried tomatoes, cabbage, chickpeas, and other vegetables, stir-fried with eggs. Nutritious and very filling. “
Not specifically tied to a country. tomatoes would suggest it doesn’t come from Faerghus though. But cabbage? Or it’s some sort of fusion food. Sounds tasty though (unlike the turnip salad)
Grilled Herring : “ Herring caught off the coast of Albinea, shredded and grilled in an earthenware pot with sliced turnips.”
what is wrong with the devs and their love for turnips
This dish uses herring from Albinea, so, unless Fodlanese fishers regularly hang out near a foreign nation’s shores to fish, they must trade. I don’t know if Albinean herring is expensive or if Garreg Mach uses a lot of its budget on Albinean herrings but I suppose there’s at least a main line of supply for this kind of fish.
First you trade fish, next we have exchange students from Albinea
Fish and Bean Soup : “ A soup made by simmering white trout and chickpeas. A simple yet wholesome dish.”
Only Faerghus students love this meal (and Marianne). It seems plain but if Word of God says it’s wholesome, who am i to criticize?
Fruit and Herring Tart : “ A baked tart with stewed herring and Noa fruit mixed into the batter. Popular in Enbarr, the Imperial Capital.”
To contrast with the previous dish, this pie sounds complicated to make and is, of course, popular in Enbarr. You could make a caricature out of this. Oddly enough, no BE student is fond of this dish. Lorenz is though, previsibly.
Fisherman’s Bounty : “ Freshly-caught fish are cut into chunks and stewed together to make this hearty dish.”
Sponsorised by Indech since it requires a Teutates Loach. Flayn likes it. You only need fish and fish to make this dish which is, uh... well. Dedue’s the only guy to like this.
Fish Sandwich : “A simple dish. Airmid pike is pickled in vinegar and served with cabbage between two slices of bread.“
You average random sandwich, with pickled fish. Petra and Manu are the only non BL people to like this but now that i think about it, since it has cabbage, it must be a dish from Faerghus ? Or Faerghus exports cabbage to the rest of the world, and the rest of the world came up with this idea for a sandwich.
Two-Fish Saute : “Two types of fish are cut into strips and sauteed in butter. This lavish meal hails from Embarr, the Imperial Capital.”
It needs Caledonian Gar and Albinean Herring. Of course it’s lavish, it comes from Embarr. A lot of people are fond of this, Lorenz included, of course. Oddly enough, Leonie likes it too so it musn’t be that expensive?
Bourgeois Pike : “ A gourmet fish dish with Airmid pike, vegetables, and a sprinkle of expensive spices. Popular among nobles.”
It doesn’t come from Enbarr??
It needs a carrot and Airmid Pike. Dedue, Seteth and Manu are the only commoners fond of this dish, but I wonder what are those expensive spices needed. Saffron? Does it even exist in Fodlan? And why is it considered a gourmet dish? The ingredients aren’t that rare.
Calling it now, between Sitri’s resting place, the coffin where Seiros’s supposed to have been laid to rest and the storage room where Rhea does her monthly maintanance for golems, there is a specific room in the Monastery where randoms look after jerky, to make sure it ages properly and doesn’t develop mold or something like that.
Sautéed Jerky : “Jerky aged in the monastery and sautéed for a delightfully salty flavor. A perfect snack to go with your favorite drink.”
Now, Dimitri’s fond of this dish, but since he can’t taste it can it really be said he likes it? OTOH, Hubert likes it too, so our local evil chancelor drinks coffee while munching on chicken jerky. I still don’t understand why chickpeas are needed though.
Spicy Fish and Turnip Stew : “ Spicy stew made with Teutates loach and turnips. The monastery’s unique recipe features spices from Dagda.”
Turnip again
This dish has different local variations, given how the monastery’s one uses spices from Dagda. Is it because Garreg Mach can import spices from Dagda and the other places in Fodlan cannot or aren’t allowed, or because whoever is in charge of the meals in the monastery thought the turnip would taste good with Dagdan spices? Idk. Petra likes it, but Shamir isn’t particulary fond of this dish.
Sweet and Salty Whitefish Sauté : “ Whitefish is coated in spices and sautéed with dried tomatoes to bring out an addictive salty-sweet flavor.”
Dried tomatoes aren’t “sundried tomatoes” so maybe it’s an oversight, or there is a process (magical or just using an over) to dry tomatoes in Fodlan. This dish is exclusively liked by members of the BL house. Teutates is in Faerghus, but given how the climate is harsh, I don’t think tomatoes grow there? Or maybe they had some sort of magical greenhouses?
Super-Spicy Fish Dango : “ A light snack, popular in the Empire. Small, spicy balls of fried dough packed with white trout and dried tomato.”
This is the opposite of a gourmet or a lavish dish, but it is enjoyed in the Empire and not exclusively in Enbarr. Oddly enough, Hanneman is the only Adrestian fond of this. Leonie and Ingrid are fond of it, is it cheap? Given how it’s a snack and popular, I’d say it is.

... This is totally comfort food, isn’t it?
Fittingly enough, Manuela is fond of it. Maybe she eats those pies when she has a hangover or something. OTOH, if it wasn’t evident enough with the previous recipes, Garreg Mach develops its own gastronomy, different from what we could find in the Alliance, the Kingdom or the Empire. I actually wonder how they are supplied with food, is everything made in the monastery or are they importing stuff from other places in Fodlan? Since they have Dagdan spices, they also import from Dagda or they grow their own brand of Dagdan spices?
Cheesy Verona Stew : “A rich dish consisting of verona and sautéed Teutates loach. These ingredients are boiled and served with two kinds of melted cheese.”
Dimitri is fond of this dish with all the reservations i expressed above. Hanneman is the only Adrestian fond of this dish, but damn, two melted cheeses in a fish dish? Is it a fish fondue or something?
Pickled Seafood and Vegetables : “A Dagdan dish of raw fish and turnips pickled in a vinegar-based seasoning liquid. Rarely eaten in Fodlan.”
It may be rarely eaten in Fodlan but a lot of students and staff members like this dish! Shamir isn’t part of them, but Hubert is. Since it’s pointed out here, raw fish sounds to be something only people in Dagda eat, or at least, Fodlanese randoms do not eat raw fish. So the pickled fish used in the fish sandwich is actually cooked fish? They made pickles from cooked things? Odd.

Low fat content cheese what kind of insanity - this uses a Noa fruit, even if Nuvelle and Gautier are geographically opposed if you look at a Fodlan map. But whoever invented this dish thought it’d be nice to put a Noa fruit in it, so why not. Dimitri’s fond of it, actually can it be that he likes whatever is cooked with cheese?

Cabbage and Herring Stew : “ Cabbage and Albinean herring stewed whole. The fish guts lend this hearty dish a superbly bitter kick.”
Again thanks to Albinean exports, Hubert can eat his bitter stew. Lorenz is fond of it too, just like Flayn, Manu and Hanneman. i don’t have a lot of things to say about this dish
Scrambled Eggs with Vegetables : “ Fried eggs mixed with tomatoes, cabbage, and chickpeas along with other vegetables and legumes. A highly nutritious dish.”
Again with the joke about hangover food, but Manu likes this “highly nutritious” dish. Given how it is enjoyed by various students across Fodlan, I’d say this dish isn’t tied to one region, but is actually eaten everywhere in the continent.

good tofu recipe:
sadly because i’m a bad chinese i don’t really like tofu at all, but if you have some good-quality soft tofu, a very lovely thing to have in our equatorial weather is hiyayakko tofu. i think it might appeal to u because the flavors are simple. here’s what looks like a nice recipe for it:

strawberry ice cream with balsamic vinegar! due to experiencing almost nothing but sour watery strawberries in malaysia i was like, sour and watery plus sour and watery..???? but since this was minneapolis they could use really beautiful strawberries and so the sharp acid of the vinegar really brought out both the sweetness and ripe fruitiness of the strawberries. it also cut the creaminess of the dairy so i went thru the scoop quite quickly haha
what kitchen robots would u like to build/have?
phew probably one that helps me clean out the restaurant sink filters lol... legit my least favorite part of kitchen work. then another that just helps me grab stuff from the freezers and whatnot to place on the counter when i gotta make dishes - that would speed the process up tremendously
hot takes on soup?
my hot take on soup is that adding starch to soup is BAD!!! textural nightmare!! makes it gluey and gloppy. and by this i mean adding literal starch like i’ve heard some old midwesterners do. maybe that’s something ppl grow to love more in colder weather. but for me if u have a really beautiful broth going on it just ruins the whole thing - to make the meal more filling i would just have steamed rice on the side. also clear/”white” tom yam is way better than red tom yam

yea i do very much. my favorite is when its cooked into the fish curries u get at mamak/banana leaf rice places around here. they’re also nice grilled and then served with some lightly sweetened soy sauce on top
