also speaking of sheep my final project for my modeling course is on hogget/ewe lamb breeding :D im looking at the tradeoffs and if it’s worth it to breed ewe lambs given the lower fecundity and higher maternal mortality

#the higher maternal mortality hasnt been super studied that i could find??#so its mostly anecdotal + one source lmao #but hoggets Do have much lower conception rates + birth rates + number of lambs surviving to weaning #so like while you Do get a higher lifetime number of lambs if you successfully breed a hogget #its a lot of work and you’re very likely to lose the lambs and potential the ewe so most farmers dont #.txt #kind of wish id attended class more in person (lectures were also streamed to zoom) so i could suck up to the teacher #bc he said my project was really interesting and not something he’d seen done before in the class >:3c #maybe ill do livestock research instead of wildlife stuff….. i could do sheep science at guelph
