Hi!!! Here with an ask for Tiny Scene Sunday! It’s Sunday somewhere in the world right? Right…? That’s how that works…? Anyways!
Zephyr, and Leander! And soft, sleepless, and peace ✨
Feel free to swap out the characters if it would work better in your head for them to be others, but I just want to see them reconciling and addressing their self-worth issues…
Hope you have fun with this one!
Note: This is such a beautiful request 🥰 thank you so much for sending this, for picking my two boys, I loved it from the first second! It doesn't have to be Sunday at all^^ feel free to send them anytime. From this list.
Summary: A hurt/comfort scene between Zephyr and Leander, after the latter’s first solo mission. 2129w. Run away from me a bit. :D
Far from perfect
Zephyr wasn’t worried.
He wasn’t. Of course he wasn’t. They were training for over a year now. Hal judged them ready for solo missions, even required them to do them, because apparently you can’t meet yourself properly otherwise.
And of course Leander would be the first to volunteer.
Zephyr wasn’t worried. He had no right to be worried.
Did he drag Leander into the whole Dragonknights business? Yes, but only because Leander would have stalked him and figured it out anyway.
Did he stretch Hal’s trust, when he forced his best friend into a tentative  revival of crazy old, mysterious and powerful magical Art? Well yes, but only because they had to start somewhere, and there wasn’t anyone more suited, more capable and more trustworthy than Leander.
Did he expect Leander to act reckless and arrogant about it, no matter how unknown the danger? Admittedly yes, but Leander could handle himself.
Because Leander was a meteor, an unstoppable canon, a goal to live up to. Zephyr only knew his own strength, because he knew Leander’s, because he had him since childhood to test it against. Only they could go all out against each other, knowing they could afford it.
They were still very different people, with different attitudes and methods, and this too made them stronger, challenging them to be creative, cunning, thinking out of the box. And if Leander listened to what Zephyr said with non-existant hesitation, when he wouldn’t have listed to anyone else and if Zephyr happened to feel more relaxed, if Leander was there, well, those were just little side-effects of knowing each other so long. Signs of being good rivals, crucial for achieving excellence.
They didn’t get worried about each other, because that, in itself, would have been an antithesis to their self-defined unspoken roles. It would have been a sign of distrust, of failure, of disrespect for the other’s abilities.
And so Zephyr showered Leander in encouragements and supportive smiles and easy quips, because this was a new untested situation to be excited about. Another step to their lives as Dragonknights. To leading their secret schools. To improving themselves in their chosen martial art of magic.
Hal said the more they would use the Art, the more dragons would wake up. Which was a good reason to wake up to, less aggressive, less bored, less twisted, more friendly, playful and safe. Because dragons have been isolated and sleepy for too long, and risking them waking up later and for no reason other than grumpiness just promised more trouble for their uneasy coexistence with humans.
This wasn’t a special night, just because Leander was away. Zephyr was hardly ever sleepless, but it can happen on it’s own from time to time, right? Nothing weird. Nothing to be worried about.
It was half past midnight though and Leander still wasn’t back. The dragon he was confronting lived just under the Islands. There was no reason this should have taken more than 4 hours, not to mention half a day and good part of Zephyr’s night.
What was Leander doing, stealing his peace with his unprofessionalism? On his first day, admittedly. Maybe Zephyr could cut him some slack.
He was totally not walking a hole into the floor of his apartment. And he was decidedly not staring at the door or checking his phone every few minutes. Which was useless anyway, because he would have been able to sense his best friend’s arrival through the Art and their connection to the Islands. Like warm presences with respective colours in mind, when thinking of them, they could all know feel each other on some level.
Skye was home at her apartment, steady and cool sharpness wrapped in blue. Hal’s overwhelming presence, dark greyish green, encompassed the forests to the left of his window. He could even feel the familiar dragons, to a degree, like bonfires under the academy’s gates.
Zephyr wasn’t a fan of self-denial, but he was all up for pretending he was something, until it turned real. See yourself as you want to be and the rest will follow.
He could not go looking for Leander, or that would mean he wasn’t alright, and there was no way to admit that without doubting him.
The academy’s smooth granite walls in his apartment sure seemed to be growing shadows, closer and closer together. The moon was shining through the balcony, foreboding milky light that annoyed him to no end. The dragonknight in training took deep breaths, pulling his senses back to himself. If he scanned the academy grounds on more time and came up empty he would surely go crazy.
He sat down on the floor in the living room, with a good angle to the door (what was he expecting to see there, anyway?) and concentrated on his breathing.
The next few minutes stretched in silence and coldness, as he thought of nothing, focusing on the immediate sensations of his body. His heart slowed and breathing evened, but the weight in his stomach wasn’t letting up. Was it really just a few minutes? It felt like hours. He was not going to check his phone.
Then the door opened.
Zephyr snapped upright, just in time to watch Leander barge inside. Stumbling, with blood smeared under his nose, his leather jacket torn open at the arm, but smiling brightly. His blond hair was uncharacteristically messy and his amber brown eyes gleamed as if he was drunk.
“That was absolutely fantastic,” the blond said.
The relief was so overwhelming Zephyr had to fight the wave for a few seconds, before schooling his expression into a smug grin.
“Took you long enough, though. What were you doing, having a dance party with dragons?”
He hovered after Leander, watching out for the unbalance in his sloppy movements as he aimed for the couch in the living room. The rip on his right forearm seemed to be leaking blood as well and he couldn’t decide if the nosebleed was a sign of magical overextension or a more serious injury.
“Sorta. A fighting dance. Can recommend, they like it.”
“They? I thought there was supposed to be one.” Could Hal have been wrong about the numbers?
“Well, roaring kinda attracts the others.” Leander leaned back and stretched his arms, wincing a little as his injured arm moved.
As if fighting one giant lizard wasn’t enough. Zephyr was scanning the arm with half-hearted attempts at a smile.
“It was fine. A little tense start, but I’m good at improvising.” Leander fleshed him a wide grin, which would have been more reassuring, if his teeth weren’t bloody as well.
Zephyr translated the claim as I almost got killed, but it worked out well. Don’t give me weird looks.
Zephyr wasn’t really sure what to do. It was an unusual situation. They didn’t usually have any trouble with anything, and if they did, they didn’t go to each other for sharing. Wounds were imperfections, failures, admitting or looking ragged was weakness you pushed through to grow.
But then Zephyr couldn’t explain why he was waiting. Or why Leander seeked him out. Why didn’t he feel his presence anyway?
Zephyr opened up his senses to scan the room for magical traces and a shiver run down his spine, when he realised how dulled and grey Leander’s sparkly orange magic trace has become. No wonder he didn’t feel him arrive. Looking closely, he could now see Leander’s hands shaking slightly, as he hid them behind his head in the most relaxing pose possible.
Questioning or calling attention to it wasn’t allowed, he was sure. But there were things he could do and Leander probably wasn’t against it, since he was here.
Zephyr threw a blanket folded at the end of the couch at him, before turning on his heel for supplies. First for a protein bar he always had stored up at his apartment and getting water boiling for a mint tea their herbal mage Martha made on the Islands. Also the pretty well-stocked first aid kit, with extensions of his own making.
All the tools well and ready. He could be proud of himself and handle this right.
With everything in hands, he returned and sat up beside Leander. His nose started to bleed again while he was away. The blond paid it no mind, eyes closed.
Zephyr shook him gently by the shoulder and pressed the protein bar in the uninjured hand. Leander eyed him wearily, but obediently bit into the bar.
“You don’t have any normal food? It’s like eating cement.”
That was a pitiful attempt for conversation. Shouldn’t he be talking more? Leander would usually be all over the place, explaining the tinies details about his dragon encounters, boasting, no probing needed. This was serious.
“It’s chocolate flavoured. And I don’t usually cook here anyway. Stop complaining.”
Zephyr started dabbing at the blood running from his nose, the stream thin but steady. At least the shaking was stopping as he devoured the protein bar and went for the milkshake. The hot water inside could help with the chills. Getting proteins and substance usually worked best with magic depletion. He wasn’t sure how it would go with the Art though.
Shouldn’t he be calling Hal? They really needed to get a medic for the academy. Especially if they were to get students. Oh my god, how could they be getting students, if Leander passed out here? They were not ready at all.
“You could at least have a yogurt here.”
“Kinda hard to shop, when your home floats above the city all the time. We have a perfectly working cafeteria though, why don’t you go there, huh?” Zephyr packed the nostrils with tiny pieces of gauze. “Lean forward a bit.”
“’s closed so late.” Leander managed through the full nose as he did as instructed.
“Well then, if you don’t like my food so much. Why don’t you go eat something at your place, hmm?” He mopped the rest of the blood from his upper lip and discarded the gauze on the floor.
Leander glared at him, putting the empty milkshake bottle down on the small table and pinching his nose shut with the now free hand. The other was lying suspiciously limp beside him.
“Hah, you got nothing. My protein bars are suddenly all good.” Zephyr inspected the arm tenderly, before pulling the rest of the ruined sleeve down. It was thick as a pencil, with blood and dirt clogged around it, but not bleeding anymore. “We should take this to Hal for healing.” Why wasn’t that lazy god here, anyway? He must have felt Leander returning and being injured!
Leander closed eyes and leaned back against the couch. “Nah. Just a scratch.”
Well, of course Leander wouldn’t go to Hal. Zephyr could be glad he at least went to him.
“Don’t lean back, your nose will start bleeding again.”
Leander’s eyes were sliding shut. “Are you gonna take long? I wanna sleep.”
Zephyr snorted.“Like it’s my fault.”
“All would be good if you at least had some ham and eggs here.”
“Sure. It would make all the difference in the world. This is going to sting a bit,” he warned, before spraying a bit of antiseptic on the arm and cleaning it with a fresh cloth.
Leander only grunted in response, but didn’t move. Zephyr wrapped the wound in a clean bandage. His friend was totally out of it though. The shaking stopped, but he was still white and put up way too little of a fight.
Figuring some pillows could do the trick with the elevation, he gathered some from his room and helped slide the limp boy onto them, laying a blanket on top. Didn’t want to bother with getting him out of the jacket, when every movement seemed heavy to make.
Seeing Leander relatively clean and asleep on the couch, Zephyr turned off the light, but didn’t want to leave. Considering they were dealing with wild dragons, had the most powerful magic at their disposal, an actual god to act as healer in emergencies and martial training since they were 5, they were well-equipped to handle this. Nothing serious even happened today.
He still didn’t feel like leaving, so he sat on the floor again, right at Leander’s right side. They would probably not mention this tomorrow. The blond would shake it off, smile and glare and tell elaborate stories about what happened.
But tonight, seeing him breathing unevenly, expression soft and open, small crease to his eyebrows, Zephyr couldn’t shake the unease. Hesitantly, he reached out and tousled his friend’s hair.
Solo missions and respect all right, but he would really prefer to go with him next time.

A/N: Next week uni exams start and I won’t be able to write for a while, so I did my best to finish this chapter on time before I go MIA for some time.
You can check here Pemberley’s Lake, Hooked on You and Smells like petrichor and paper, part one, two and three of my Nessian Pride and Prejudice AU.

The sound of music
Cassian could not sleep. His mind kept coming back to the greenhouse.
To Nesta and her lavender and vanilla scent and how lovely she looked amidst the flowers.
He would not lie to himself and say he did not let his lips linger a little bit longer than necessary on her temple.
Or that he had not felt some resemblance of male pride on seeing her wearing his jacket.
That he had not imagined her wearing it after they had come back home from a ball or one of Gywn’s operas.
That he had not imagined Nesta tucked close to his side, his arms around her and a smile on his face as he heard her talk about her day.
His imagination, it seemed, was his worst enemy.
“You are delusional Cassian” he mumbled to himself “Delusional”
Sighing, he touched the pressed daisy chain again. He had taken it out of his drawer and left it in front of him as he worked on some papers regarding his properties, thinking the numbers, reports of complaints or requests would help tire him out enough to make sleep come.
Cassian had no such luck. He worked until the entire pile had been properly looked through, and even three glasses of his strongest brandy could not make his thoughts of Nesta go away.
Nesta, who was currently sleeping in one of Pemberley’s guest rooms after much freeting from Mrs.Potts and her friends about catching a cold. Cassian had made sure to have her room properly warmed and a glass of hot chocolate delivered to her first thing after they arrived from the greenhouse.
Her friends had been delighted to spend the night, and he had almost asked them to forego the inn completely and just stay at Pemberley for the rest of the month. But he did not want to mess their schedule and ruin their trip. He knew that Gwyn was on a short vacation, as were Emerie and Balthazar, and Nesta could not stay away from her younger sister, Elain, for too long, given that they had no male relative to look after their household and wellbeing in the meantime.
Maybe a trip to the kitchens would help him. A midnight snack was bound to make his sleep come soon, and he was sure he had heard one the maids saying that Chef Ramsay had baked chocolate cookies.
Safely putting the bookmark back in his drawer, Cassian only bothered to throw a robe on before quietly making his way down the hallways. He was not worried about being shirtless, given that most of the house was for certain sleeping.
Deciding to take the long way to the kitchen in hopes of tiring himself, he was surprised to pass by the library and see light coming from underneath the doors. Thinking that maybe someone had forgotten to check the place in their rounds, Cassian opened the oak doors to find the candle light. He could not risk a fire happening in the library out of all places.
He followed the faint glow until he found himself with a most surprising — but very welcome — sight.
Nesta was currently curled up on his favourite chair reading a book in nothing but a thin nightgown and he momentarily forgot to be annoyed at her for not covering herself after being caught in the rain if only because by the way she was seated he had a privileged view of her bare legs.
Cassian knew he should announce his presence, his conscience yelling at him how improper and scandalous it was to see her in such a private moment. But he let himself stare at her for another minute, commiting to mind every single detail, from the way the ribbons in her nightgown accentuated her waist — he recalled how small it had seemed when they had danced at Feyre’s ball, his hand spanning nearly halfway across — to how the white colour made her eyes look more grey than blue in the candlelight.
“Fancy seeing you here” Cassian said in greeting, clearing his throat.
Nesta nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard him, quickly scrambling to straighten herself up when she realised she was not alone.
“I am sorry, you had said I could come whenever I wanted and I—”
"Could not sleep?” he asked, and Nesta only nodded.
Oh dear Mother, she wanted to crawl into a hole on the ground and disappear. Why was it that she was always finding herself in embarrassing situations when it came to Cassian?
It was true she could not sleep, her mind replaying her evening with Cassian, from the moment she stepped on the library to when he kissed her temple in the greenhouse.
She had tossed and turned in her bed for hours, her creative mind conjuring images of a future with him.
Of long strolls in the garden and picnics by the lake.
Of hours spent reading quietly side by side in the library.
Of running her hands in his silky hair, coming up with new ways to style it.
Of Cassian’s coat around her shoulders and her head on his as they came back from a late evening of dancing or parties with their friends.
Why could she not stop thinking about him? Why had he not left her mind since they had first met each other and why did her heart skip a beat whenever he was nearby?
She looked at him, flushing all over when she noticed that he would have been completely naked from the waist up were it not for a robe, which had loosened up a bit, revealing a bit of his naked chest.
For Cauldron’ sake, did he not own a shirt?
“What are you reading?” he inquired, and she quickly averted her gaze from his chest.
Little did she know he was also trying very hard to not stare at her bare shoulders or her chest, cursing once again whoever had gifted her such nightgown.
He could bet his fortune it had been Emerie, recognizing the modice’s preference of off shoulders designs.
“Oh, it’s a romance” Nesta felt her ears getting even hotter “By Sellyn Drake. You have a rather large collection here. Some are even first editions”
“She was a dear friend of Pemberley’s previous Lady” Cassian said, motioning for her to take a seat as he told her the story “The Lord sponsored her, both because he saw how her writing brought joy to his wife and also Lady Drake’s talent.”
“She soon became extremely famous and still kept sending the previous Lord her books even after his wife passed away” Cassian smiled faintly “He sold Pemberley and moved, but I kept the library as it was, just adding my own books here. Lady Drake comes once a while to visit and get inspiration for new novels, although she says she is to retire soon.”
“Y-you know her?” Nesta’s voice had gotten an uncharacteristic high pitch “You know Sellyn Drake personally?!”
“She is a very annoying old lady” Cassian said rolling his eyes “Always asking me if I will not take a wife so she will have someone more interesting to discuss her books with whenever she visits.”
“I cannot believe you are friends with one of my favourite authors” Nesta said in disbelief.
“But I would not have pegged you for a romance reader” she added, arching an eyebrow.
“I could not very well leave those books here to gather dust, could I?” he answered, squirming on his seat.
“Tell me, did the scary General Commander of the British Armies shed a tear in any of them?” her voice had a teasing tone and Cassian was almost left speechless by that fact alone.
Nesta inclined her body in his direction, apparently having forgotten she was not wearing modest attire at all and that Cassian was desperately trying to keep his eyes on her face instead of her chest.
“I promise not to tell anyone if you did”
And then Nesta Archeron gave a little sideway smile that made Cassian lose his breath.
He did not know what he had done that made her take such liberties with him, but he for sure was not going to complain.
“I did not cry” he finally managed to answer, angling his body in her direction and smirking when he saw a faint blush adorning her cheeks “But I will not be heartless and say it did not move me a little.”
They were close once again. So close Nesta could see that his eyes had little green speckles on them and that the brown looked like molten chocolate.
They were eyes one could drown and all she wanted to do was to indeed drown on them.
“Next time Lady Drake plans on coming to Pemberley I will make sure to invite you too” Cassian said softly, straightening himself “It is quite late. I will accompany you to your room.”
As if on cue, Nesta yawned, quickly covering her mouth with her hand.
“I only have one chapter left” she tried to argue, suppressing another yawn.
“Such a headstrong lady you are” he smiled and took the candlelight “The book will still be here tomorrow.”
Nesta followed him begrudgingly, twisting her nose in annoyance even though she was yet again holding back another yawn. Cassian thought she looked like a tiny angry kitten, laughing internally.
They walked back to her room in a comfortable silence, and sooner than he would have liked they had arrived.
“Well, then, here we are. Delivered safe and sound”
“Thank you, your grace” Nesta opened the door but did not get inside, as if she too did not want to part with him.
“Have a goodnight of sleep, my lady” he said, dropping a kiss on her hand before he could dwell too long on it.
“Goodnight, your grace” she breathlessly answered, finally getting inside and leaving Cassian standing outside her door.
Needless to say, both fell asleep quickly after that.
~•~
“For Cauldron’ sake are you incapable of sending prior notice of your arrival? And it is way too early to be drinking wine Morrigan, even for you”
Cassian had arrived to have breakfast and found Rhysand’s cousin casually seated at table, twirling her glass of wine at nine in the morning.
“I came here straight from Vivian’s. It was a long journey and I needed the wine. Besides, I am family! I knew you were going to like my surprise visit” Mor blinked at him.
“Always a pleasure to see you” Cassian answered, sitting beside her and promptly dumping a large portion of bacon and eggs on his plate “I take you introduced yourself to my other guests?”
“Of course” she snorted, making Georgiana laugh “Except for Miss Carynthian and Sir Oristian, that is. It seems they went into town early to see something in relation to their business.”
As if on cue, the dining room doors were open and Balthazar and Emerie walked in.
Emerie had opted to wear trousers today — Cassian thought it was to not be belittled by some stupid mercants and show with just who they were dealing with — and a white shirt with long sleeves with a forest green vest. Her curly brown hair was down and she had a gleam in her eyes that told him her business transaction had been a success.
She really was a sight to behold but it still startled him when Mor spat out her wine.
Mor never wasted wine.
“Sorry for our late arrival, Balthazar was being a weakling” Emerie said, sitting in front of a very much flustered Morrigan.
“I was not. You are the one who never lets the other have the upper hand” Balthazar pointed out.
“Please, you know that piece of silk was not worth that much!” she spread jam in a piece of toast, waving the knife in a rather aggressive manner.
“Maybe, but if you keep that up you will gather more enemies than business partners”
“Good thing I have you as my bodyguard” she batted her eyelashes innocently, making Balthazar roll his eyes.
“You are Miss Carynthian. The Miss Carynthian?” Mor asked in awe, her coughing fit finally over.
“The one and only. I take you know my shop?” Emerie asked with a smile.
“I absolutely adore your designs!” Mor gushed, and they fell in a very excited talk about gowns and fashion trends.
“Did you have a goodnight of sleep?” Cassian whispered to Nesta, who was seated beside him.
“I did, thank you for your concern, your grace” she answered, grabbing a chocolate cookie “I hope you also had a pleasant sleep?”
“The best sleep I had in years” he winked at her, that sideway smile of hers appearing again.
“Lady Nesta, my brother has told me how brilliantly your dancing  is” Georgiana butted in, and Cassian resisted the urge to throttle her.
His younger sister was lucky there were other people present or he would do just that.
“He is too kind, my dancing is not that memorable” Nesta said, a bit embarrassed.
“But my brother never lies!” Georgiana exclaimed, receiving a glare from Cassian “He told me how the whole ballroom stopped to watch you as you danced.”
“Oh, thank you for the compliment your grace”
“It was nothing but the truth” Cassian assured her, sending daggers at Georgiana, who was sweetly seated by his other side as if she had not just told Nesta how infatuated with her he was.
“I wish I had your talent” Georgie sighed “I am really shy at balls and never really want to dance even if I am asked to. I usually throw my dancing card in the trash in fear someone will write their name there.”
“But I love to watch my brothers running from the scary mammas” she added with a devilish grin, failing in a brotherly bickering with Cassian.
Nesta felt her heart break over Georgiana’s fear of dancing. Apart from reading, dancing was one of the few things that brought Nesta joy. It made her feel alive, the music allowing her to get lost on the moment and forget the pressures high society placed upon her.
Dancing made Nesta feel empowered, in control of her own destiny.
Georgiana deserved to feel like that too.
And that is why when Emerie, Gwyn and Mor went shopping together while the gentlemen went horse riding, Nesta proposed that she teach Georgiana how to dance.
“Are you sure of it?” Georgiana asked nervously, glancing around the music room as if someone was going to appear out of nowhere and laugh at her poor performance.
“Rest assured. You will be dancing flawlessly at the end of the day” Nesta gave her a reassuring smile “I am going to take the male role, so please place your hand on my shoulder.”
Georgiana did as instructed, and soon they were dancing.
“You just need to have fun and relax” Nesta said, making Georgiana twirl “Even if you do not know the steps but act like you do nobody will blink. Dancing is not something that is supposed to be suffocating, but to free you.”
“You mean like this?” the young girl asked, and did a step completely opposite of what was expected in a waltz that made Nesta laugh and follow her.
In no time they were not dancing the waltz but just messing around, their laughs and delighted screams filling the room. They were having so much fun that they were oblivious to Cassian watching them from the door.
The gentlemen had returned to Pemberley and decided to move to the game room, their initial amiable horse riding outing transformed into a racing competition whose draw made Balthazar and Azriel — who revealed themselves to be extremely competitive — propose a rematch in a billiard game.
Cassian soon grew tired of watching them betting who would win, deciding to fetch a book to help distract himself. He was called to the music room by the sound of loud laughs, his heart threatening to burst when he saw Nesta and his sister having so much fun.
“When are we to expect a proposal, my lord?” Mrs. Potts said to him, having stopped to welcome him back when she noticed just who he was watching.
“I have no idea what you are talking about” he answered, a soft smile on his face as Nesta dipped Georgiana, making her laugh even louder.
“It is clear as day to all of us how much that lovely lady means to you” the old headmaid replied “I have never seen you happier since she arrived here.”
“I assure you, there is nothing going on between us.”
“Do not let your fears stop you from being happy” Mrs.Potts motherly said, noticing his bitter tone “You more than anyone deserve to be happy and feel loved. And I noticed how she looks at you, I do not know why you cannot see it.”
“Such busybody staff that I have” was all he said, Mrs.Potts smiling and leaving him alone to continue his watch.
But it appeared their talking had warned them of his presence.
“Brother! Were you spying on us?”
“Far from it Georgie. I thought nobody was home but your laughs made me want to investigate” he stepped inside, closing the door behind him “Balthazar and Az are so competitive they were giving me a headache”
“Nesta was teaching me how to dance” Georgiana said, a bright smile on her face.
“I saw it. She is a great teacher” Cassian said, and Nesta had to look away lest he saw how much happy his words had made her.
“I have a great idea!! Why don’t I play music in the pianoforte and you two dance? That way it would be much easier to see how to dance properly”
Nesta panicked at Georgiana’s words. Last time she had danced with Cassian it had been out of spite for his comment. She would not deny that she had found him a pleasant partner or that she had had fun dancing with him, but Nesta doubted he would want to dance with her again.
However, little did she know Cassian could not have been happier than the moment his sister suggested such a thing.
“That is a wonderful idea Georgie” he said to his sister, all the while planning to write to Rhysand concerning an increase in Georgiana’s dowry.
He had already forgiven her words earlier at breakfast.
Didn’t she say she wanted a new horse? He could arrange for one to be delivered first thing in the morning tomorrow.
Georgiana clapped her hands in excitement, leaving them standing in front of each other as she sat by the piano.
“You are not dancing!” she called out, her fingers moving expertly on the piano keys.
Cassian cleared his throat, offering his hand.
“May I have this dance?”
Nesta accepted his hand, placing her other on his shoulder.
“You may”
They fell in that pleasant and calming atmosphere as Georgiana played, Cassian leading her effortlessly, but she felt he was cautious, even a little stiff.
“I do not bite, your grace”  Nesta said, daring to tease him “You do not have to be afraid.”
“I would not mind if you did” he said back without thinking, his eyes widening as he realised he had said that out loud.
“I beg your pardon. I did not mean—” Cassian made to release her hand and step away but Nesta gripped his shoulder harder, stopping him.
“Do not tell me the great General Commander is left without a strategy when it comes to some defenceless lady” Nesta appeared to be nonchalant on the outside, but inside she was apprehensive.
What if she had gone too far? What if he did not see her as a friend? What if he was bothered by her teasing?
But to her relief he gave her that smirk of his that made her blood boil, stepping closer to her, their chests touching.
“For you, I have no strategies.”
And they really began to dance.
The music was still there. Georgiana played beautifully and on another occasion Nesta would have wanted nothing more than to just sit and listen all day to her playing.
But the music was no longer the most beautiful thing in existence.
Nesta got lost on him as they danced, the music a faraway background sound.
She got lost on his bright smile and noticed he had dimples.
She got lost on the way he moved with her, a body made for brutality which now moved with grace, keeping up with her.
She got so lost on his warm eyes — more green than brown at the moment —  that she felt herself moving even closer, her breath mingling with his.
“Cassian—” his name left her lips without her consent, and she almost froze when she noticed she had not used his title.
Cassian did not care, his smile only getting brighter.
“You may call me informally. We are friends, are we not Nesta?” he said quietly.
“Yes, we are.” she answered, her body tingling all over at the way he said her name, as if it was a prayer to the Mother.
Georgiana — having taken notice of the rather romantic mood — started a new song as soon as the other finished, neither of the pair paying her no mind.
Next morning, Cassian gave her a new horse, the fastest and most sought out in the market. No one had the barest ideia how he managed to get hold of it so fast, or why he was gifting it to Georgiana.
Neither explained the reason, just shaking on it as if it was a business transaction.

Only If For A Night
Prompt: They’ve had a few drinks Relationships: Eskel/Jaskier Rating: E Content Warnings: Drunkness, Drunk Kissing, Drunk Confessions Summary:  Eskel is a private driver for a very famous and very successful fashion designer. Having seen the more private side of his boss, he eventually develops feelings for him. One night of drunken confessions can bring a massive change to their professional relationship.
Also on ao3!
"My dear friends, acquaintances, sponsors and clients!" Jaskier's happy voice, amplified by several speakers around the small stage, echoed across the hall. "Thank you for gathering here tonight, so that you'll be the first ones to see, admire, and buy the newest designs from my Dandelions collection!"
A round of applause and excited gasps was heard as a group of androgynous models dressed in wonderfully flowy gowns joined Jaskier on the stage. The clothes were kept in a gender neutral fashion, the fabrics thin as if made of morning mist, but at the same time vibrant with colors, their ethereal vibe contrasted with black hemming at the edges.
"In the next hour the models will be available for you, so that you can get a feel of the clothes, talk about how comfortable of a wear these are. You can even try something on, if the models let you!" Jaskier continued into the microphone. "Just remember - these are real people, not coat hangers! I expect respect towards them and no stepping over any boundaries!"
Eskel stood at the far end of the hall, leaning comfortably against a wall, now and then taking a sip from his glass of water. The day was very hot as for late May, so he was wearing a simple white buttoned up shirt with short sleeves and some black slacks instead of his usual suit ensemble. He loosened the knot in his thin black tie, as he watched Jaskier walk down from the stage and fall into the embrace of his enthusiastic friends.
He liked watching Jaskier, his boss, from afar. Jaskier was fierce, flamboyant and bubbly around his friends, at events, and in front of the media people, but when he thought nobody was looking, his face turned pensive, sometimes even sad. That melancholic, brooding side of Jaskier showed up mostly in the evenings, when the lights went out, his friends went home and it was just him and Eskel driving him home. Eskel liked that side of him.
A few hours into the after party Jaskier approached him, hugging a whole bottle of bourbon to his chest. His cheeks were flushed, blue eyes glistening, his elaborate hairstyle already mussed a little. "Fuck me if this isn't the best collection I've made so far."
Eskel nodded, trying to suppress a chuckle. Whenever Jaskier was tipsy, he forgot about any conventionalities and talked to Eskel as if he was his long time buddy, not his private driver. "It's really good." Eskel admitted. "Need my assistance with anything?"
Jaskier placed a warm palm on Eskel's chest, his bright blue eyes looking up at him. "I wanna go home, my head feels dizzy from all the hugs, fake kisses and congratulations."
"You're sure it's the congratulations and not the bourbon?" Eskel cocked his head, raising a brow in amusement.
"Hey!" Jaskier's long finger was now poking at Eskel's chest. "I pay you to drive me around, not to judge my life's choices."
"Let's go then, I'll drive you home," Eskel nodded and led Jaskier to the door, desperately trying not to wrap a protective arm around his boss' frame.
****
Jaskier ducked his head through the partition divider, resting his chin on his hands. The strong smell of alcohol mixed with Jaskier's flowery cologne hit Eskel's nose. "Do you like me, Eskel?" He whispered, too close to Eskel's ear.
Eskel shot him a quick glance through the rearview mirror, clearing his throat. "How do you mean?"
"Am I likeable?" Jaskier pouted and cocked his head to the side, to lay it on the cold metal frame of the divider. "Do you like me as a person? I know I am trying to be a good boss and I hope you're satisfied with the work you're doing here for me and that I'm not a pain in the ass for making you drive me around... But am I likeable as a person? Can you even look at me as a person and not your boss, slash famous designer?"
Eskel huffed, feeling goosebumps creeping up his neck. So today's drunk Jaskier's mood was philosophical. Through his last year of driving Jaskier around he's seen him in every sorry state - from being awkwardly horny after a hook up gone wrong, through being insanely euphorical and singing at the top of his lungs in the back seat, to being absolutely shit-faced, making Eskel stop the car every five minutes, so that he could get out and barf on the sidewalk.
But Jaskier asking him if Eskel liked him caught him off guard. What was he supposed to say to that? That ever since he started working for him, he wanted to wrap his arms around Jaskier and kiss him so hard he'd forget his own name? That his heart fluttered everytime Jaskier sent him that deep look and loving smile when they accidentally locked eyes in the rearview mirror? That he's been yearning to spend every second of his life with him? That he loved everything about him - his generosity, his laugh, his creative mind? This wasn't Eskel's place, he was just Jaskier's employee, yet he felt compelled to say something. "You're a good person, Jaskier." He tried.
"Then how come that on the day my newest collection premieres..." He stopped, interrupted by a series of hiccups. "Why is that, that people hug me and kiss me and yet..." He plopped dramatically onto the back seat and sighed. "Why am I yet again going home alone?"
Eskel sighed, a feeling of a thousand needles prickling on his skin. He wanted to pull Jaskier up and wrap him in a tight embrace and scream at the top of his lungs that he was there for him, always, forever! Instead he sighed again, turned to Jaskier for a second and asked, "Should I put your fave music on?"
"Yes, please," Jaskier mumbled. "Thank you, Esk."
****
"We're here," Eskel turned to Jaskier after he parked the limo outside of Jaskier's apartment building. "Is there anything else I can do for you tonight?"
Jaskier smiled at him, sitting splayed all over the backseat, his hair a mess and his shirt already halfway open, giving Eskel more than a sneak peek of his thick chest hair and the several necklaces dangling on his torso. Eskel swallowed thickly, his mouth suddenly dry, and then Jaskier leaned forward and whispered, "You can come upstairs with me."
Eskel's eyes widened, a hotness creeping up his neck. It was all he ever wanted, but he felt he shouldn't do it tonight, not with Jaskier in this state of mind. He had to think and be reasonable for them both. "Jaskier... You're drunk and tired, I don't think that's a-" A warm finger on his lips shut him up.
"That bottle of bourbon won't empty itself," Jaskier tried for a seductive smile which turned out pretty wonky, but still managed to tug at Eskel's heartstrings. "C'mon, just one drink? You can probably drive after one drink?"
Eskel huffed, his mind racing and trying to weigh all the pros and cons of the situation he's gotten himself into. Jaskier looked at him with pleading eyes, not saying anything, waiting for Eskel's move. "Okay, one drink."
They got out of the car, Jaskier propping himself up on Eskel's shoulder as they entered the building. "Good morning, Jerome," Jaskier addressed the concierge with a wide smile.
"It's midnight, Mr. Pankratz," the concierge rolled his eyes, the look on his face indicating he's seen Jaskier in this state more than once.
As soon as they got into Jaskier's penthouse, Jaskier moved straight to the alcohol cabinet, leaving Eskel in the middle of the spacious living room. Eskel looked around the place, admiring all the art pieces on the walls and various trinkets scattered around the furniture. But the view from the vast windows was what truly mesmerized him - he moved towards the glass walls, gazing down at the night city, so calm and otherworldly from here.
"Thank you for joining me," Jaskier's voice next to him startled him a little. "I really didn't want to be home alone tonight," he added quietly.
"No problem," Eskel smiled at him, noticing that now besides the bourbon bottle, Jaskier was also nursing a flask of red wine. He held both up for Eskel to choose his drink from. Eskel took the wine bottle and asked, "Should I fetch us some glasses, or do I just chug straight from the bottle?"
Jaskier patted his shoulder lightly, laughing too loud, as if Eskel told a joke, then hiccuped a little. "I'll get us some glasses, you..." he waved towards the sofas and armchairs, "you make yourself comfortable."
Eskel didn't get to sit yet when he heard the sound of breaking glass and a sharp hiss coming from the kitchen. He jumped up, leaving the wine bottle on the table and moved towards Jaskier.
"It's nothing, it's nothing," Jaskier was already kneeling on the floor, clumsily collecting the broken pieces of a wine glass. "Guess everything went too smoothly for me today."
The sigh that left Jaskier's lips sounded more like a broken whimper and Eskel's heart physically hurt at the sight of his famous and successful boss looking so small and pitiful in the middle of his kitchen. He felt like crying. "Leave it, I'll clean it up," he offered. "Maybe you should go to bed, lay down a little?"
Jaskier looked up at him, the gaze of his blue eyes unfocused. He pointed at Eskel with his index finger while standing up. "No, you-... You've promised me that one drink!"
"Fine."
****
Two hours later Eskel knew he wasn't going to make it home that night. The wine bottle in his hands was almost empty, and he felt slightly light-headed and dizzy, but not drunk. Jaskier, on the other hand, was already edging on wasted, his shirt now unbuttoned, cheeks red, his words incoherent and slurry.
"Y'know, I'm fully aware of my... My pre... my pry... My privilege," he blurted out, "but yet I give myself permission to feel miserable from time to time... And now is the day!" he gestured with his hand, in which he held the bourbon bottle, spilling a little on the table.
"Okay, I'll take this," Eskel grabbed the bottle from him as Jaskier plopped back onto the sofa.
"How do you know who's your friend?" Jaskier asked, his gaze focused on the ceiling as if he was trying to find an answer there. "People hug me and kiss me and invite themselves into... Into my life and then what? They want free stuff, they want contacts with my famous friends, they want..." He stopped and looked over at Eskel, his blue eyes sad and pleading, as if he waited for Eskel to give him a solution.
"Look for those who stick around when the lights go out, when the party's over... For-for those who ask you how you feel and not what you can give to them." He felt the hotness of embarrassment creep up his neck, his ears turning red. He was talking about himself and he only gave himself permission to do so because Jaskier was drunk and wouldn't remember it the next day.
"That's... wise," Jaskier nodded and reached out with his hand to pat Eskel's cheek. Then his eyes narrowed as if he was trying to remember something important. "You never asked me for anything."
Eskel cleared his throat, and turned his face away from Jaskier, to hide his unease. "I'm... I'm fine. I'm happy with my job."
"Yeah? What do you do for a living?" Jaskier asked.
That caused Eskel to chuckle, and Jaskier followed with his pearly laugh, although he didn't know what was going on, and in a moment they were both laughing loudly and snickering like children. Jaskier patted Eskel's knee several times before leaning back onto the sofa.
"Jaskier, I work for you. I drive you around, remember?" Eskel said, wiping tears of mirth from the corner of his eye.
"Right." Jaskier nodded. "I hope I pay you well."
"You're a good boss," Eskel smiled. They locked eyes for a long moment, not saying anything. Jaskier licked his lips subconsciously and Eskel had to look away, the sight causing a warm feeling to coil in his stomach. "Alright, boss, time to get you to bed," he cleared his throat. "I'll crash on the couch if you don't mind, can't really drive now."
"Oh no no, no sleepin' on couches in my house! I have guest rooms for guests!" Jaskier stood up abruptly, too quickly for the drunken state he was in. His foot kicked the table leg and he wobbled a little, losing his balance.
He landed in Eskel's lap, Eskel instinctively putting a protective arm over him to save him from falling over and onto his back. Jaskier grabbed Eskel's shoulder for balance and suddenly their faces were incredibly close. So close Eskel could smell Jaskier's cologne, now suppressed by the tangy scent of bourbon. He was so close that Eskel could see those tiny crows feet forming at the corners of Jaskier's eyes, he could notice his flared nostrils and the wet shimmer on his lips. He swallowed audibly.
"Whoo, that was close. Thank-... Thank you," Jaskier laughed lightly and squeezed his shoulder. In a silent reply, Eskel caressed Jaskier's back gently, so delicately as if he didn't want Jaskier to feel it. But apparently Jaskier did, because he leaned forward and pressed a soft butterfly kiss to Eskel's lips. He pulled away and looked Eskel deep in the eyes, while undoing his tie. "Could you... Can you, just for tonight, forget that I'm your boss?" he asked quietly.
Eskel looked at him wide eyed, frozen in place and unable to speak. But when Jaskier gave his tie one last slight tug, he was lost. He's been waiting for that little sign, for a nod of permission, and as soon as he got it, he launched forward, pushing Jaskier off his knees and pressing him down onto the sofa with his weight.
He kissed him, reluctantly at first, but when Jaskier let out the first quiet whimper of pleasure, Eskel was all lost on him. He pressed his lips to Jaskier's, with his eyes closed, trying to put into that kiss all that yearning and longing he'd felt for Jaskier for months.
Jaskier was under him, sighing and panting, arching into Eskel’s touch. Responding to every kiss with passion. Eskel moaned into Jaskier's mouth as his hands roamed under his already open shirt, caressing the soft skin on Jaskier's sides, skimming over his chest hair and slightly tugging at the multiple necklaces on his neck.
Jaskier sat up and fumbled with the buttons on Eskel's shirt, his now clumsy fingers too uncoordinated to undo them. He tugged desperately at the shirt, causing two buttons to pop off and fall to the floor. They both looked at them, Jaskier with a hint of embarrassment, Eskel amazed with Jaskier's strength. Jaskier pulled at Eskel's shirt and dragged him into another heated kiss. "Off! Just take that shirt off," he demanded between kisses.
As he stripped off of his shirt, Eskel noticed how Jaskier's eyes glistened and how he licked his lips lusciously, before launching himself at Eskel. He peppered his face, neck and chest with kisses, murmuring "You're beautiful" and "I love you so much" between kisses, making Eskel writhe with pleasure and whine with emotions, because he so wanted Jaskier to mean it.
"Can I take you to the bedroom?" Jaskier asked while tugging at the waistband of Eskel's slacks. "God, why is the belt so complicated?" He threw his hands up losing his balance and landing on the floor. Eskel reached out to help him up, only to be dragged down to the floor right next to Jaskier.
"Okay, bedroom it is," he laughed into Jaskier's mouth, who already managed to slot their lips in another heated kiss.
****
Eskel woke up with his head feeling very heavy, his mouth dry as if he'd eaten sand. He sat up, rubbing at his eyes, taking in the situation. He was naked, with only the bedsheets tangled around his legs. Jaskier was sleeping next to him, lying on his stomach, one hand draped comfortably around Eskel's waist. He was equally naked, his perky ass sticking out from under the covers.
Eskel watched him mesmerized, noticed how beautifully lean and supple Jaskier's body was, he watched how he moved slightly with every breath... And then tiny bits of memories of last night hit him like a wave. He remembered the passionate kisses Jaskier showered him with, how unbelievably soft and pliant Jaskier's body was under his touch, he recalled the weight of Jaskier's cock on his tongue and how wonderfully he moaned Eskel's name with his hand tangled in Eskel's hair...
One part of him wanted to leave before Jaskier would wake up, spare him the awkwardness of a morning after. They never planned on something like that, after all they were boss and employee, they just let alcohol get the best of them. The other part of Eskel wanted to stay, to savour the moment of absolute intimacy and vulnerability between them. That other part wanted all this drunken mishap to turn into something more than just a one night stand.
Then Jaskier stirred next to him, waking up, pulled himself closer to Eskel's chest and murmured a soft "Good morning." He sat up, dragging one hand through his disheveled hair, taking in the sight of their naked bodies. "So... I guess last night ended up better than expected?" He shot Eskel an embarrassed smile. "Did we... You know. Go all the way?"
"I honestly don't know," Eskel admitted sheepishly, pulling the bedsheets up to cover the both of them. "Are you okay, Jaskier? You didn't go easy on the bourbon last night."
"I'm fine," Jaskier waved him off, but his eyes narrowed and he worried his lower lip and Eskel knew he was trying to recall what happened last night. "I hope I didn't take advantage of you?"
"Everything I did, I did because I wanted to," Eskel said firmly, though he felt the hotness on his cheeks and ears at the memory of their naked bodies tangled together and Jaskier moaning so sweetly into his ear.
"Yeah?" Jaskier scooted even closer to him under the bedsheets. "Care to remind me what did you actually do?"
Eskel exhaled deeply, feeling Jaskier's hot breath on his neck, making his own skin feel too tight. The memory of Jaskier's body arched beautifully under Eskel's touch flashed before his eyes, and he cleared his throat. "I'm... I'm pretty sure I sucked you off."
"Oh." Jaskier's face was painted with astonishment, but only for a moment. In the next he was already straddling Eskel's lap, braiding his fingers in his dark hair, looking him deep in the eye. "I think it's only fair if I return the favour now?"
Before Jaskier moved down on him, Eskel grabbed his hands and made Jaskier face him. "Listen..." he started, mouth extremely dry, more of nervousness than hangover. "You said some very weighty things to me yesterday, that I really wished were true... But I know this could be just the alcohol's doing." He huffed, pressing his eyes shut. "If it's not what you meant, or how you feel about me, I'd rather leave now."
Jaskier sighed, deeply, but he didn't lower his gaze. He intertwined their fingers and placed a kiss on the top of Eskel's palm. "I remember one thing vividly from last night," he said. "And that is feeling loved and wanting to give as much love as possible back." He kissed the fingers on Eskel's hand. "If you felt the same, I'd rather you stayed. Forever, if possible?"

A Comparison of RTD and Steven Moffat: Saving The Day
So for this analysis I’m going to compare when Moffat and RTD save the day well and when they save it poorly. There are a few bits of criteria I need to explain.
First I will only be including main series, no Torchwood, no spin-offs, and no mini episodes.
Second, I have to define what makes a good and a bad ending (my examples will come from episodes written by neither of them):
Bad endings include when the sonic saves the day (see The Power Of Three) (there are exceptions, see below), when a character spouts some useless technobabble that doesn’t make any scientific sense/when it doesn’t make logical sense in general, when the Doctor invents/presents a machine/equipment that miraculously stops the baddy and is never referred to again (see Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS), and any other ending I deem to be bad (see The Vampires of Venice)
Good endings include when the sonice activates a device that has been well established to save the day, when technobabble is used that actually makes some scientific sense, and just generally when the baddy is destroyed in what I deem to be a creative manner that makes sense with all the things that had been set up in that episode (see The Unquiet Dead).
There will also be cases where there isn’t really a day to be saved, however this happens more often with Moffat.
Let us begin (obviously there will be spoilers but the last episode in the list aired nearly 4 years ago so what you doing with your life).
RTD:
Rose: Bad
What even is anti-plastic?! Like seriously, he’s faced the Autons loads of times and has never thought to use it any other time.
The End Of The World: Bad
The Doctor just goes up to the appearance of the repeated meme (ha meme) and rips its arm off. He then just summons Cassandra back by twisting a knob which apparently everyone can do if “you’re very clever like me”.
Aliens Of London/World War Three: Good
Just nuking them all was a bit dodgy but I’ll give it to him purely because it had been set up earlier in the episode and it is a genuine option that could have been taken.
The Long Game: Good
The heating issue was set up within 2 minutes of the episode starting. It’s always good to see the Doctor using his enemies weakness against them.
Boom Town: Good
Only just. It’s technology that hadn’t been showcased ever before and came out of nowhere, but I’m allowing purely because it was setting up The Parting Of The Ways.
Bad Wolf/The Parting Of The Ways: Good
See above. It was set up the story before so it works.
The Christmas Invasion: Bad
This was so close to being good. If RTD had just let the Sycorax leader be honourable then everything would have been fine. Instead he had to let him be dishonourable and then the Doctor through the Satsuma at a random button that for no apparent reason caused a bit of floor to fall away.
New Earth: Bad
It only makes sense if you think about it for less than 10 seconds as just pouring every cure to every disease ever into a giant tub and then spraying said supercure onto them all, then having them hug each other to pass it on. That is suspending my disbelief just a bit too far.
Tooth And Claw: Good
Everything is set up in the episode so I’ll allow it but I fail to see how Prince Albert had the time to ensure that the diamond was cut perfectly.
Love And Monsters: Bad
It’s Love And Monsters. Need I say more?
Army of Ghosts/Doomsday: Good
It was very clearly set up throughout the episode.
The Runaway Bride: Bad
I don’t like how a few bombs can supposedly drain the entire Thames.
Smith And Jones: Good
All the events were well established
Gridlock: Good
It’s a fairly bland way to save the day, just opening the surface to all the drivers. But how else could he have done it?
Utopia/The Sound Of Drums/Last Of The Time Lords: Bad
As much as I like the idea that he tuned himself into the archangel network, he basically turned into Jesus. It is arguably the least convincing ending in modern Doctor Who history.
Voyage Of The Damned: Bad
Why was he the next highest authority? If he’s the highest authority in the universe why didn’t they default to him in the first place? If not then why not default to Midshipman Frame? And if he’s somehow in between them then why? Also Astrid killed herself for no reason when she easily could have jumped out of the forklift.
Partners In Crime: Good
It works in the context of the episode, but I don’t see why they needed two of the necklace things.
Midnight: Good
It’s human nature, you can’t get more well set up than that.
Turn Left: Good
It works logically
The Stolen Earth/Journey’s End: Bad
Donna just spouts a load of technobabble whilst pressing buttons and then the Daleks are magically incapacitated.
The Next Doctor: Bad
Why do the infostamps sever Hartigan’s connection with the Cyberking? As far as I remember it ain’t explained.
Planet Of The Dead (co-written with noted transphobe Gareth Roberts): Good
A good couple scenes are dedicated on getting the anti-gravs set up.
The Waters Of Mars (co-written with Phil Ford): N/A
The day isn’t really saved cause everyone still dies anyway.
The End Of Time: Good
Using a gun to destroy a machine is much better than using the sonic to destroy it.
Summary for RTD:
Out of 24 stories written by him, I deem 10 to be bad endings with 1 abstaining. That’s 41.7% of his episodes (43.5% if we don’t count any abstaining).
Steven Moffat:
The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances: Good
You’ll see this a lot with Moffat, he knows how to explain things without stupefying levels of technobabble. “Emailing the upgrade” is a perfect example of this.
The Girl In The Fireplace: Good
Some basic logic, the androids want to repair their ship, but they can’t return to it, they no longer have a function so they shut down.
Blink: Good
Always loved this one, getting the angels to look at each other, however they do look at each other sometimes earlier in the episode.
Silence In The Library/Forest Of The Dead: Bad
This is more of a problem with the setup of the episode, I don’t like that he can negotiate with the Vashta Nerada. I’d rather see them comprehensively beaten, but I guess it’s good for the scare factor that they can’t be escaped from.
The Eleventh Hour: Good
He convinced the best scientists all around the world to set every clock to 0 all in less than an hour. In the Doctor’s own words “Who da man!”
The Beast Below: Good
The crying child motif pretty much ended up saving the day (well for the star whale, life went on as normal for pretty much everyone else).
The Time Of Angels/Flesh And Stone: Good
The artificial gravity had briefly been set up earlier so I’ll allow it.
The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang: Good
Everything had been set up perfectly, the vortex manipulator, the Pandorica’s survival field thingy, the TARDIS exploding at every moment in history.
A Christmas Carol: Good
Literally the entire episode is the Doctor saving the day by convincing Kazran not to be a cock.
The Impossible Astronaut/Day Of The Moon: Good
The silence’s ability to influence people is their whole thing, so using it against them is a good Doctory thing to do.
A Good Man Goes To War: N/A
The day isn’t really saved, Melody is lost, but River shows up at the end so is all fine? I love the episode it’s just the day isn’t really truly saved (yes I know Amy was rescued but she still lost her baby).
Let’s Kill Hitler: N/A
There isn’t really a day to be saved. They all get out alive but no one is really saved other than maybe River but we all knew she was gonna live anyway.
The Wedding Of River Song: Good
Whilst opinion is divided on the episode, the ending still works. the Tesseracta was established in Let’s Kill Hitler, and the “touch River and time will move again” was established well in advance.
The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe: Bad
I don’t like how the lifeboat travels through the time vortex for no reason but to rescue the dad. It don’t make no sense and I don’t think it’s explained
Asylum Of The Daleks: Good
Oswin had access to the Dalek hive mind so of course she should be able to link into the controls and blow everything up.
The Angels Take Manhattan: Good
Paradoxes really do be something powerful, and they even acknowledge how nobody knows if it’d work so I’ll let it slide.
The Snowmen: Bad
Lots of people cry at Christmas, why are the Latimers anything special?
The Bells of Saint John: Good
The whole episode is about hacking so why shouldn’t the Doctor be able to hack the spoonheads
The Name Of The Doctor: Good
It was the story arc for the season pretty much, so of course it was explained well in advance.
The Day Of The Doctor: Good
Both the storing Gallifrey like a painting and the making everyone forget if they’re Human or Zygon works in the context of the episode.
The Time Of The Doctor: Bad
Since when were the Time Lords so easily negotiated with?
Deep Breath: Good
I like the dilemma over whether the half-face man was pushed or jumped.
Into The Dalek: Good
It’s set up well with this new Doctor’s persona of actually not being too nice of a guy (at first).
Listen: N/A
There isn’t a day to be saved. It’s just 45 minutes of the Doctor testing a hypothesis and I low-key love it.
Time Heist (co-written with Steven Thompson): Good
It works logically so I’ll allow it however it isn’t very well set up at all.
The Caretaker (co-written with noted shithead Gareth Roberts): Good
The machine to tell the Blitzer what to do was set up well in advance so I’ll allow it.
Dark Water/Death In Heaven: Good
The fact that Danny still cares even as a cyberman is set up fairly early on after his transformation.
Last Christmas: Good
He does use the sonic to wake up Clara but he convinces the others to wake up through talking so I’ll allow it.
The Magician’s Apprentice/The Witch’s Familiar: Good
It’s set up well with that little scene from actually inside the sewers.
The Girl Who Died (co-written with Jamie Mathieson): Good
IDK why the vikings would randomly keep electric eels but they’re set up well so I’ll ignore it.
The Zygon Inversion (co-written with Peter Harness): N/A
Not including this one as it’s only the second part and I’d argue the ending is most likely Harness’.
Heaven Sent/Hell Bent: N/A
Again there isn’t really a day to be saved, yes Heaven Sent really is amazing but it’s only the first part and, being completely honest, he dies several billion times before finally getting through the wall.
The Husbands Of River Song: N/A
Again there isn’t really a day to be saved here.
The Return Of Doctor Mysterio: Good
He gets Grant to catch the bomb which is good. But he does just sonic the gun out of Dr Sim’s hand and says UNIT is on its way which just sort of wraps it up very quickly.
The Pilot: N/A
No day to be saved here.
Extremis: Good
You could technically call it the sonic saving the day, I consider it to be the Doctor emailing the Doctor to warn him of the future.
The Pyramid At The End Of The World: Good
The fire sanitising everything makes sense and it’s in character for Bill to love the Doctor enough to cure his blindness in return for the world
World Enough And Time/The Doctor Falls: Good
Yes it is the sonic just blowing the cybermen up, but it’s blowing them up with well established pipelines so I’ll allow it (also the story is amazing).
Twice Upon A Time: N/A
No day to be saved here. Just Doctors 1 and 12 getting angsty about regenerating.
Summary for Steven Moffat:
Out of 39 stories written by him, I deemed 4 to be bad with 7 abstaining. That’s 10.3% of his episodes (12.5% if we don’t count any abstaining).
Conclusions:
Moffat was much better at saving the day than RTD
Moffat liked telling stories where the day didn’t actually need to be saved
I’ve spent way too long on this and I need to sleep
If I spent as much time on this as my coursework I’d probably pass
If you’re still reading this, you probably need to get a life

a hero’s welcome
word count: 1445
warnings: self-loathing, panic attacks, crying, slight gore (because remus)
summary: roman hides out in his room after the events of putting others first. the other sides try to show him how much he’s missed in their own special ways.
once again, happy birthday to the man, the myth, the himbo: roman sanders
it takes weeks for roman to come out of his room after janus reveals his name.
the others worry almost constantly about his well-being, but after multiple failed attempts at convincing him to come out for movie nights, video recordings, or even just food, they can only hope that roman will come around on his own eventually.
and he does. slowly.
it starts with a few missing disney movies from the TV cabinet, a half-eaten jar of logan’s off-limits crofter’s (which both logan & remus swear they did not touch) left mysteriously on the kitchen counter, and then, on one particularly late night for logan, a brief, silent encounter with a bleary-eyed prince in search of a cup of water.
logan notices roman is looking more bedraggled than bedazzled, with wrinkles running all across his costume and dark-colored bags under his eyes that are eerily reminiscent of virgil’s eyeshadow.
no words are exchanged, but as logan carefully hands roman a glass which he’s filled nearly to the brim, roman knows no words are necessary. he can practically recite logan’s self-care spiel by memory anyway.
eventually, the disney movie collection in the TV cabinet dwindles down to a Frozen DVD (which they’d all recently rewatched anyway), and the old, dusty VHS copy of Black Cauldron (which roman’s never particularly liked). seeing as it’s his personal favorite disney movie, virgil tries not to feel too offended by that.
what virgil can’t stop himself from feeling, however, is worry. it’s not an unfamiliar feeling to him, of course, but it doesn’t make him any less uncomfortable.
he tries all of the usual things to calm his nerves: sitting on strange surfaces, fiddling with a fidget cube, rewatching The Nightmare Before Christmas, napping excessively, and—naturally—blasting music through his bulky headphones.
but even with My Chemical Romance screaming out of his speakers, virgil simply can’t ignore the alarming absence of that familiar, sash-framed figure.
despite his quarrelsome quips with the prince, virgil can admit that there’s always been a certain... comfort to hearing roman’s boisterous voice belting broadway ballads down the halls, or seeing him dash off on another adventure to defeat the dragon witch for the umpteenth time.
it’s when virgil’s sullenly staring at roman’s usual spot, in the corner of his room, that an idea suddenly strikes him.
the next morning, roman sneaks down to the living room in the early hours of the day after deciding that rewatching Frozen (again) doesn’t sound so bad after all. he opens the movie cabinet to find a bit of a surprise in the form of a The Nightmare Before Christmas DVD with a scrap of paper taped hastily to the cover. the chicken scratch scrawled onto the sheet is hard to decipher, but he manages to see it reads:
“i have my own backup copy and i’ll hit play at 8pm tonight. you can do it too, so then we can sort of watch the movie together. i’ll let you pick tomorrow’s movie, if you want to, but fyi i will be picking black cauldron the next time it’s my turn. -virgil”
roman smiles subtly as he makes his way back up to his room, the first flicker of joy he’s felt in a while.
he sits down to watch the movie at 8pm, just like virgil instructed.
for the next night, he chooses aladdin, and for the night after that, he begrudgingly agrees to watch black cauldron.
twenty minutes into the film, virgil hears a haste knock at his door. before he even knows what’s happening, roman is shuffling inside and curling up on the couch next to him.
unsurprisingly, the tired prince falls asleep before the movie finishes. surprisingly, virgil doesn’t actually mind all that much.
meanwhile, patton has nearly eaten his way through the entire cookie stock in the pantry.
it’s not a healthy coping mechanism for his sadness, he knows, but it’s not like he can just go and ask roman to conjure up some puppies for him instead. patton sniffles at the thought, which serves as a painful reminder of how roman was always there for him when he was feeling down, and how patton can’t do the same for him now.
the others hold an intervention for him after logan finds him sobbing over some reheated spaghetti because it made him think of roman. virgil then explains how he’s been watching movies with roman, and how patton can leave some snacks for the prince in the cabinet along with a note if he wants to send a message.
that very night, patton stays up past midnight to prepare some spaghetti with extra, extra love (& cumin) for roman. he draws him a card and writes a message inside, then sticks it to the top of the tupperware container containing the spaghetti using glitter glue.
upon discovering patton’s care package beside virgil’s usual note inside the cabinet, roman feels his mood suddenly shift.
he thinks of the days he spent sobbing for hours inside of his room and staring in the mirror and pacing back and forth and staring in the mirror and laying on his bed and staring in the mirror and working through the tears and staring in the mirror and then slicing a line clean through the mirror with his sword and watching his reflection split in two.
those weren’t good days.
but then he thinks of patton’s pleading, hopeful voice whenever he would call him down for movie nights, video recordings, or food.
maybe patton wasn’t lying when he said roman was loved. maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to see him and the others out in the open again. maybe there were better days ahead.
remus, however, doesn’t wait around for roman to feel better. as always, he continuously swings by his brother’s room whenever he feels like it and leaves whenever he pleases.
still, his visits aren’t as fun anymore. perhaps he just doesn’t have the energy, but roman no longer bothers to shriek at remus to get out of his room or to push remus off his desk when he drapes himself across it.
not even the severed, mutilated head that remus kindly leaves on roman’s pillow elicits its usual slew of creative curse words, so the duke decides to step up his game.
he skips casually into roman’s room one late afternoon, lazily swinging his morning star at his side and whistling a jaunty tune. as usual, roman doesn’t spare him a single glance. he’s staring down at some kind of crayon-covered card.
it only takes one hit to knock roman out, but dragging him into the living room is a much more difficult process.
the other sides are already waiting, just like janus promised they would be. they rush over and prop roman up on the couch. patton gives remus a few reprimanding words, virgil sends him a couple scowls, and even logan looks on with more disapproval than usual, but they quickly forget their anger at him as soon as roman groans groggily and slowly blinks open his eyes.
remus takes that as his cue to leave. janus is waiting at the top of the stairs.
“so you’re sure that this plan of yours is going to work?”
janus scoffs. “of course i am. though, have you considered that perhaps you’re just not as annoying to your brother anymore?”
“have you considered that perhaps i could start leaving chopped heads on your pillow instead if your ‘master plan’ fails?” remus shoots him the prettiest, toothiest smile he can muster.
janus’ expression darkens. “well. i suppose it’s a good thing i’m certain it will work, then.”
the sound of laughter bubbles up from the living room. janus doesn’t bother to hide his satisfied smirk.
“i’ll say, when you told me you could help me get roman back to normal, forcing him to attend a party was not what i had in mind.”
“do i even want to know what you had in mind?” janus gives him a quick side glance.
remus’ eyes light up. “well–”
“rhetorical question, remus. ugh, maybe i should start saying ‘figuratively’, as well. anyway, yes, i thought it was about time roman stopped sulking. so, what better way to get him out of his room than by having a, uh, hero’s welcome of sorts for him?”
“well, i got him out of his room by dragging him by his feet.”
janus sighs, wondering why he even opens his mouth to speak anymore.
his plan better work.
though, judging by the sound of patton and logan’s exhasperated sighs as roman and virgil argue over which movie to watch, he has the sneaking suspicion it will.

your boyfriend is...(II)| s.m
part 1 here
I had received requests for a part two of this fic which happens to be the most loved one so far so here you go! I hope you like it!
Tumblr media
He sees white.
There’s white sand, he thinks it’s sand, and curtains billowing over it. He sees a large wooden cabana, steps leading up to it, the steps are white, the pillars are white. He hears the sound of water somewhere.
Turning around, he sees waves crashing into the sand, can water be white? The sunset is almost as beautiful as the day he saw her the first time, splatters of pink and violet and orange. The sky is the only pop of colour he thought he needed.
There’s a carpet leading up to the cabana, white, of course, and large vases lined along it, there are white flowers - petunia, daisy, wisteria, large streams of flowers hanging from the ceiling of the cabana. He sees his friends dressed in white suits, his dad in a white tux, too and he smiles thinking of how perfect it all looks. His mother stands with her mother, both wearing white flowers in their hair, it looks beautiful on them. A hand touches his back, and he knows it’s her.
He turns around to take her in his arms, he could look at her forever. Glowing, flushed and smiling up at him. He leans down to kiss her but she pulls away, “Wake up, baby.”
“Huh?”
“Wake up, Shawn it’s 9 and you have to be in the studio in an hour.”
He sees white again, but this time it’s the comforter wrapped around him, it’s her silk dress shirt and the headband she chose for the day, it’s her laptop case she is currently packing away and the large photo frame behind her, holding a photo of theirs.
“What?”
“Wow, you did sleep well, huh? It’s Tuesday, babe you need to be at the studio at 10 and you asked me to wake you up before I leave.”
He checks for the rings on her hands, just the set of gold bands she always wore. Huh. She must’ve taken off the ones he gave her.
“I don’t know what time I’ll be back today so please don’t forget your keys, actually you know what I’ll just,” she links his house keys with his car keys, “there, now you won’t forget it.”
Pleased with herself she walks over to him again, she kisses him lightly on the cheek, mindful of the deep marsala shade of lipstick she is wearing, “I love you, have the best day at work,” she pulls away smiling.
“Babe, where’s your ring?”
She looks at him in confusion - “What ring?”
“You know, the ring?”
She looks down at her hands in confusion - what ring? Oh, wait, he’s probably asking about my mom’s ring, she thinks to herself. What a thoughtful boy.
“Oh, that’s tucked away in our closet, don’t worry. I gotta leave now, bye bubs!”
And she’s gone. It looked like a flash of white, his mind still hazy. Was it because he got high before sleeping last night? That couldn’t be it, right?
He sighs while moving sluggishly to sit up, rubbing his eyes and willing the sleep to go away. He slept for over 10 hours and still felt exhausted, it worried him to think about what it would be like when he they actually get down to planning the wedding - god forbid that coincides with planning for his tour. How would he do it all? It seemed impossible, he should’ve proposed a long, long time ago, should’ve done it as soon as the last tour got over, no wait he should have proposed in the middle of his tour, and got married as soon as tour got over. Then they would already be married right now and she would wear the ring all the time. He’s just stupid thats all he is, really.
He pulls himself over the side of the bed, laying his feet into the plush white, faux fur carpet she insisted on getting when they moved in. The carpet was one of the better decisions she had made and he silently thanked her each time he walked over it. We should have carpets like this at the wedding.
In no time he was carried away with thoughts about the wedding again, the location, the invitations, her outfits, his outfits, the honeymoon, but the dull vibrations of his phone on the nightstand pulled him to reality. It was her.
“Hi baby”
“Did you shower yet?”
“…No.”
“You are going to be so late, please go shower, please.”
She acted like such a wife already. The wife of his dreamiest dreams. “Yes ma’am,” he grinned into the phone, getting out of bed and heading to their en suite.
_______________________________
He pulls himself up to the door after yet another strenuous day at the studio. He had to FaceTime his label executives in New York and LA, scheduling meetings for the coming week and still having to figure a way to finish the day’s task list. He unlocks the door and steps inside, a dull headache working its way in. Shawn toes his shoes off and lightly kicks them in line with hers to make them look neat and finally walks into their living room.
She’s cuddled into the blanket they thew over the couch for times when they needed a binge watch, her hair pulled into a loose braid and glasses perched on her nose. She notices him walk in slowly, pulls the blanket off herself, getting covered by him instead. Smiling to herself she pulls the blanket over both of them again, her hands weaving through his curls softly, aware of how many times he must’ve tugged and ran his hands through it during the day.
“How was it today?” She asks, careful of how soft she spoke.
He mumbles something along the lines of being tired and getting 3 songs finished and having ideas for a few more. He moves on top of her, turning his head and adjusting himself so he could face outwards, lightly taking in her post shower scent. Vanilla and roses. Roses remind him of the floral arrangement for their wedding again. He figures he should let her decide this bit.
“What do you think about wisteria and white roses for the wedding?” He mumbles, she only gets the names of the flowers, nothing else.
“As flowers? I think they’re great! There’s dinner in the kitchen, I can heat it up if you want.”
“I’m thinking of lots and lots of wisteria, what an underrated plant…”
“baby did you smoke up again? I hope you didn’t drive in this condition.”
“No I didn’t, why’d you ask that?” He’s so sleepy he can barely get the words out but she hears him, shushes him because if he gets worked up now he won’t be falling asleep anytime soon.
“Okay I’m sorry, but do you want food right now though? Or do you want to wake up in the middle of the night again when you’re hungry?”
“Cocoa.”
“What?”
“I want cocoa.”
“It’s kinda hot to be drinking cocoa, bud.”
“Turn up the cooling then, and please make me some cocoa, I love you.”
She had to bite back a laugh. Sleepy Shawn wasn’t too far off from Drunk Shawn except when he was sleepy he liked the quiet, and when he was drunk he absolutely needed to scream everything, all wide eyed and overly gesticulative. She had her fair share of experience with both, and asking for hot chocolate the way her mum makes it was basically code for exhaustion like he hadn’t felt in a while. She slowly picked both of them up from the comforts of the couch and led him into the kitchen. She welcomed the feeling of cold marble under her feet, like she said it was summer and her snacks usually included ice creams and popsicles these days.
He sat himself by the kitchen island, propping his head on his hands and watching her putter around putting together his favourite drink, her body nearly working on out pilot when she mixed the cocoa powder and brown sugar, he’s convinced she could make it with her eyes closed.
“baby,” he called out, still just as soft, he didn’t have the energy for anything more than a whisper now. She hummed in response, not paying much mind, because he often called out to her out of habit, not purpose.
“Listen, please,” he pouted because she hadn’t turned around to see him yet.
“I’m listening, baby.”
“We should have cocoa at the wedding.”
“What?”
“I said, we should ha-”
“No, I heard you but hot chocolate isn’t exactly a wedding drink, I’ve never had it at a wedding?”
“Who cares about others? It could be our wedding drink.”
She felt a spark of heat starting in her chest and working towards her cheeks. Our wedding? She loved how casually he spoke about their future, like it wasn’t something he had to give too much of a thought to - it’s just a thing that’s meant to happen. She silently crushed some pieces of chocolate onto both their mugs as a topping, they weren’t the biggest fans of cream of any sort in their drinks and thought of how she would never want them to change, and how there’s no one else she’d rather make cocoa for at midnight on a Thursday.
He was the purest person she had had the pleasure of knowing in her life, barely any malice and a heart full of respect and love for anyone that came across him. It hadn’t been easy, loving him, she’d been burned before and who’s to say he wouldn’t do the same to her? But now that she thought of the years they’d spent together and the moments they created in this very house and multiple places across the world, she wouldn’t mind being burned again if it meant she still got to keep him. Forgiveness didn’t come easy but with him it came like second nature.
She turned around to place both their mugs on the island letting out a silent laugh at the image of her very tall, very lanky boyfriend passed out on the platform, head supported by both his arms. She wished the album would wrap up soon, the creative process had really taken a toll on him and he looked more and more worn out everyday. As much as it was his job, it was her job to look out for him too.
Softly running her hand over his hunched back on her way out, she picked up his phone from where they it on the couch. Swiping it open, she pulled up his group chat with the writers and producers he was currently working with, shooting them a text that he wasn’t feeling too well and they should hold off recording for the next 2 days.
Feeling accomplished, she looked back at where he was now snoring on the counter, she thought of if and when he would choose to slow down his career if they wished to be married. Maybe it was too early for her to be thinking so, hell, they hadn’t even proposed to each other yet. And if and when a wedding successfully goes through, they would still have a whole life ahead of themselves to plan things. To date, he’d gone above and beyond to make sure she was alright with the pace at which he was moving, and where they stood as a couple and just making sure that she was okay, and she knew for sure that he would continue doing the same for as long as they were together, it’s just a part of who he was, especially around her.
She walked over to him, gently prodding him awake and watching him chug down the hot chocolate like his life depended on it. She smiled the whole time they went back to their room and finished their night routines and snuggled up in bed. If this was what the rest of her life looked like, she wouldn’t even mind running at the same pace as him.

He has a Pinterest board dedicated to their wedding. They’re nearing the end of his fourth studio album fast, and each time they take a break he is glued to his phone and Saving and Moodboarding things for the ceremony. Teddy warned him that if he asked her to pick between an arched altar and a slightly more arched altar, she would leak his album. It’s not her fault they all look the same no matter how much he wanted to fight her on it.
He’s currently swiping through decor options for their afterparty when he sees it. He’s not sure what a dress is doing in the middle of photos of rounded tables and helium balloons but he swears his mouth goes dry thinking of her in that dress. It’s a vision in gold, intricate embroidery on the sleeveless bustier, two tuck lines running down the front and a cinched waist that flairs out into the most beautiful ball gown he’s seen till date. And he’s seen a lot of them, he has a board to show for it.
He takes a screenshot and sends it to her.
From Shawn: Hi, I hope you’re having a good day at work so far, I saw this dress and I think it’d be perfect for the afterparty (attachment: 1 image)
Halfway across the city, she was on her break at work, deep in conversation with Tiffany, yes Shawn’s stylist Tiffany, about outfit choices for the GRAMMYs in the coming few days. Shawn wasn’t performing this year, so it wasn’t as stressful of a time as it would’ve otherwise been. She had shortlisted 2 outfits with Tiff earlier, now wondering if she even needed 2. Tiffany said she’d need an hour or so to figure how she could layer her evening gown and then use the same for the afterparty, she hated having to go back and change even if Shawn wanted to.
She was about to resume work when a notification lit up her phone.  Reading Shawn’s texts, she paused in confusion, wondering why he was sending her dress recommendations when she was already talking to Tiffany. Tapping on the link anyway, she is led to an ethereal gown, the kind that she’s convinced only exist online and not in real life. She may have even let out a blissed out sigh, the aesthetic experience running sparks through her heart and mind, imagining herself in a dress so god sent, but where would she wear it?
The realisation cuts her supply of serotonin real quick, reminding her that absolutely no occasion she had been invited to thus far was worth an outfit like that.
To Shawn: Hi baby, I miss your face, only 4 hours till I see you!
very pretty dress. where would I wear it?
Meanwhile he’d returned to piecing random chords on his guitar together. Shawn perked up to see her reply. He quickly held his pick between his lips, picking his phone up to text back.
From Shawn: afterparty??
also
4 hours 2 go. . see u soon
* see you at home
❤️
Why would she wear something so good to a GRAMMY afterparty? Like yes, don’t get her wrong, they’re important and all, but just like Bong Joon-Ho believed the Oscars were very local, she thought the GRAMMYs had limited taste when it came to artists. Yes, the world would be watching, and this would be her first ever appearance with him as his girlfriend but she didn’t want to stress herself over how she looked or acted. The show hadn’t awarded her man’s album with the recognition it deserved, she hadn’t forgotten. And so, she was treating the GRAMMYs like no big deal, just a slightly big deal.
She wanted the night to be about him. Even if it would be their first time on a red carpet together, she would not be stealing his spotlight in any way, thank you very much. And if that meant rejecting this gorgeous gown that would make her look like a bronzed angel that descended straight from heaven, then so be it.
She looked around her office, people returning to their desks from all over, lunch time coming to a close and her time to get back to work coming closer, she needed to tell him why the dress was not happening when Tiffany finally texts her back.
Dress is sorted. Sending you photos once I put it together, found a way to only give you one outfit for the night :)
The smile growing across her face should be worrying, really. She messages a quick thank you, you’re the best, Tiff!!! before opening up her chat with Shawn.
Afterparty dress is taken care of bubs, nothing to worry xx
See you at home 😘
______________________________
When Shawn calls her giddy and breathless, she drops all her work immediately.
The album, baby it’s done! We just cut the final- yeah it’s my girlfriend hold on- baby we just cut the final song I needed and it’s over just - no we’ll all go out in a few days, yeah? I just really need to be home with her tonight, thanks man, yeah so I was saying, it’s done I’m wrapping up and I’m coming home, jaan. I love you.
Her good credit in her company allowed her to immediately intercom her boss and say there’s a family emergency, nothing too serious but she needed to head home right away. On the way she picks up whatever she can remember she needs for their meal, a bottle of Cliquot, Rosé, of course, a few slices of his favourite cheesecake and a bouquet of fresh flowers - a colourful mixture Carnations and Lillies and she smiles just thinking about a bouquet so similar given to her when he asked her to be his.
It’s not until she’s back to the house does she realise that he passed up on drinks with his music friends (yes she does still call them that) for an immediate post album celebration and chose to spend the night in with her. God, could he get anymore perfect. Tonight felt like the night, the night, and if she did manage to pull through with the plan she put together in the short 20 minute drive, it would definitely be a night to remember.
Entering their home she gets to work quickly, setting the flowers up on their dining table and stowing away the champagne and cheesecake in the refrigerator to cool down. She doesn’t know exactly how much time she has till he gets home, and the dish she felt most prepared to make was Pesto Chicken, having the side dishes in mind already, and body working on auto pilot from there on.
While her meal bakes in the oven she brings out the fine China, determined to make the real thing look and feel as perfect as the image in her mind. Once the table is set up she moves around the couches in the living room for when they will inevitably end up there to watch something, anything, to end their night, or continue their night, if you know what I mean.
As she’s fluffing out her blanket next to his, the lights running low and candles lit all over the place, he unlocks the door to let himself in. The smell of a slow roast hits him before anything else, his eyes running over the place to see her as soon as they could.
She hears him come in before she sees him, hears the sound of his keys jingling and the soft pad of him taking his trainers off. She whips around and practically flies across the room into his arms. He’s more prepared, though, immediately swinging her up and spinning her around laughing freely as she squealed incoherence into his neck. Once he hoisted her up and round his waist he finally grabbed her face to kiss her like she deserved. She hummed into his mouth, wrapping herself around him tighter and finally getting a taste of what she missed these last few days. He smelled like cinnamon and tasted like happiness and love and warmth and she couldn’t seem to get enough.
In a bit he sets her back on her feet but refuses to pull away from her. She’s giggling against his lips about dinner and a celebration and he’s never felt more loved. He does still manage to keep her in place and kiss her a bit longer, though, and she lets him because it’s what he deserves.
When she asks why he did not go out with the boys tonight he just shrugs. She offers for him to meet them wherever they are after dinner he just says no again. When she asks why, he says the album they just finished was about her and he needed to spend this night with his muse because it was the only thing that felt right. She was too giddy to bother arguing back.
She’s already set the table, ready to bring out the food when he shyly asks her if they can go change into their pyjamas. When she says yes and is about to run up to their room to change, he further asks if they can sit on their living room floor instead of their dining table. A small voice in her head reminds her of the time they made out on his living room floor the first time she came over and got drunk. Nothing else had happened that night, and he initially refused to even kiss her for fear of taking advantage of their sobriety or the lack thereof but she convinced him that it would be compensation. In retrospect, she’s thankful that they didn’t take things further because that was definitely a night to remember, the memory still makes her blush.
When he goes to freshen up in their washroom, she’s changing into her fluffiest pair of pyjamas and an old t-shirt of his. Her pyjamas thankfully came with pockets, and she quickly went over to her vanity and stuffed a tiny packet in. She’d had it for nearly two months now, but tonight was it.
When they go back down and stuff their faces with chicken, the best in all of North America, babe, as he says, she keeps looking over at him. He finally looks relaxed after months, he’d been frustrated trying to write new songs on the road and when he thought he had things figured out, he jumped straight into the studio to bring them to life. Essentially, he hadn’t given himself a break, which had led to a fight between the two of them. She’d been patient and tried to talk things out so as to not resort to a screaming match, but he refused to listen. Probably the Leo in him.
The most she could convince him to do was be home before 1 AM. His girlfriend imposed a curfew on him, and he darn well follow it if he still wanted to have a girlfriend.
Seeing him eat his meal while happily chatting about his day, she kept thinking of how perfect her life felt at the minute. When they popped champagne and he insisted they drink straight from the bottle, she thought of the few flaws of his she’d learned over the years and how she could bear to romanticise them if it meant she got to keep him forever. She couldn’t think of anyone else she’d rather be sat with on her living room floor, tipsy off the bubbly and munching on fresh cheesecake, stealing kisses in between. It felt right.
He looked away from her to check his phone, text his friends back and she sets her phone on the closest console table to record the moment. Crawling back to him, she takes his fork and plate out of his hands and he smirks thinking she’s about to have the first round of the night right there.
“Starting already, then?” He mumbles as he leans in to kiss up her neck when she scoffs and pushes him away lightly. “chill, horndog, I need to talk to you about something.”
He immediately straightens up, bracing himself for whatever is about to come. She runs her hand through his hair while his eyes cross the length of the room, knowing she sometimes needs a minute to collect her thoughts. When she inhales sharply, he knows she’s ready.
He turns towards her so she knows she has his full attention, their hands intertwined and hanging between them. She purses her lips, sends a prayer up to God and begins.
“So um, the first time we spoke, I thought you were the dreamiest boy I’d ever seen. Um, I still think you are.” His heart warms at her being nervous, knowing she doesn’t have to be around him and tries to ignore the heat in his face.
“See, we didn’t really know each other did we? So whatever little image I had of yours in my head was based on small talk and your devastatingly good lo- stop smiling, your below average looks, and how you desperately failed at trying to hit on me, but it it was only a matter of time till we got talking more often when you went away for tour - and I think I really appreciate it sometimes that your tours, like, no matter how long or short they are, they give us a chance to talk, you know?”
He’s not sure where this is going. The confusion is visible on his face but she keeps going. It’ll all be worth it. “Other couples don’t get to have that, Shawn. I know they’re always with each other and I know we’d both appreciate more time together when we’re physically together but being away from you makes me… introspect. It makes me want to learn things about you, it makes me want to know you because there’s never enough things to know about you, and the more I know, the more I love.” She moves closer now, cupping his cheeks and he leans into her hands, still confused as ever but letting her take what she needs from him.
“After you came back from your first full length tour after we got together, I wrote in my journal that I would never take my time with you for granted.” His heart fluttered a little, writing in her journal meant making promises to herself, and she never went back on them. He’d never read any of her journals, he was nosy, yes, but not invasive. He wouldn’t break her trust like that. He also knew she wrote about him, he’d seen her peaking at him while writing, thinking he wouldn’t notice, but he did, he always did.
“I’d never really had a serious relationship with anyone before you, you knew that. I mean, I just didn’t think I was special enough to hold someone down, or have my person, it just wasn’t plausible, right? And you know how Khalid said I never had someone to call my own, that was me pretty much my whole life, but then you swooped in with your guitar and you wanted to take me to all your favourite places and make me meet your friends and then you wanted to meet mine and by our third month together you started writing songs about me and I couldn’t believe that someone would want to write a song about me you know? Cause like I’m just me? But you did, a-”
“That was a lie.”
“What?”
“I didn’t write about you for the first time in our third month. I only told you that because I didn’t want to come off too strong, we were still pretty new to each other. But the first song I ever wrote about you was after our first date. Well, I started writing it after our first date but it was completed after you so painfully rejected me after the second one. I moped for a week straight, babe, you were pretty heartless.”
She doesn’t speak for a second, she doesn’t know what to say, really. Her speech that she prepared for this occasion was pretty self derogatory, she realised. And now he was throwing her off kilter, making her forget the script in mind.  “You wrote a song about me after the first time you took me out?”
“Yeah,” he said resting his hand by her neck now and running his thumb over her cheek. His gaze grew softer, “And now I’ve written two whole albums about you. But they don’t feel enough. I don’t think they ever will be, honestly. I could write a thousand songs about you and they wouldn’t do you justice. I love you more than anything, I think I always have.”
And all of a sudden, she’s forgotten everything she wanted to say. She always did think she got lucky with him, she had a loving, caring boyfriend who respected her wishes no matter what and worked hard come hell or high water to make himself better at his art. She thought about how she was a part of his art, she thought about the one time he said that each time she proved to be his muse, the result was somewhat a tribute to their love. How fortunate could they be to have each other? And now, looking at him in the softest sleep shirt he had, a little loopy because of the champagne after a long day of working hard, there’s so much she wants to say. But the words don’t make themselves known, instead she blurts out - “Marry me.”
He smiles lightly, “Okay.”
“No for real, hold on,” she holds his shoulder to lean up, then steadies herself on one knee, pulling out the Carbon Fibre ring that had her heart since the first time she saw it, a solid black with two thin gold lines weaving around it. Her hand is held up between the two of them so he can see the ring, “Shawn Mendes, will you make me the happiest girl in the world, and marry me?”
Holy shit. He hasn’t proposed.
It finally pieces together in his head. In this midst of finishing the album and planning the next step for his music, he’d forgotten to propose to her. But he swears he remembers doing it - or was it all in his head? He rushes to stand up mumbling no no no to himself and her eyes follow follow him around, her hand lowering as the fear of the worst takes over. No?
At once his head looks upwards, where their room is, and he runs off. She can’t quite grasp what just happened. She flips the ring over in her hand, finding the tiny engraving of their initials on the inside of the 22K band, thinking of the day she was so happy to have found it, and how it was probably for nothing now. Why would he say no?
They’d talked about marriage so openly, he was the one who kept bringing it up - so why run away now? Was he not ready? Or had he changed his mind? Was it too soon? Or too late? Did he not want marriage anymore? She felt tears sting her eyes - did he not want her anymore? That wasn’t possible was it? He literally just told her he loved her - or did he not actually mean it? Why would he say it if he didn’t mean it? Did this mean they were over now?
She looked over to where she had propped up her phone earlier, the video still recording. She had plans of adding this clip into her next video, after their trip to the Portugal next month. She had wanted to record her proposal instead she may have just recorded their breakup, now that would get her some views, huh?
Upstairs, Shawn let out an aha! finally finding the small velvet box that he had stored away carefully - so carefully that he needed to empty out half his drawer to find it again. He bounded down the stairs, screaming BABY THIS WAS WHAT I WAS FORGETTING only to find her kneeling on the floor right where he left her. She looked small and sad, stray tears finding their way down her cheeks.
“Baby w-what’s wrong?”
She didn’t notice the velvet box in his hand till he kneeled down in front of her. “I thought you said no… I thought you didn’t want this - what’s that, Shawn?”
He claps a hand over his forehead, frustrated with himself for upsetting her so much and so quick. “I just happen to be stupid, babe, I’m sorry, I forgot to propose.” Then he’s flipping open the box, throwing it back to let it land somewhere on the carpet after having taken the diamond ring out. It’s the exact width she likes, the exact cut she likes, and it is so beautiful.
“How do you forget-”
“But! I am doing it now! I may be stupid but you’re the one who chose to stick by me so that makes two of us! Please marry me?”
“I asked you first.”
“God, yes that’s all I ever wanted, yes yes - a thousand times, love,” he rushes to kiss her, and she smiles into it again, pulling away and slipping the ring onto his finger.
He’s the one who’s teary eyed now, a wet smile growing bigger and bigger. “It’s so beautiful, doll, I love you.”  She kisses him again, once, twice, she would’ve done more but he pulls away again. “Okay, your turn now - what’s the answer?”
“Hmm… I don’t know I mean you did forget to propose after all…” he stares at her for a second before saying humming and attacking her with tickles. She squeals out falling to the floor in a fit of giggles, trying and failing to fight him off. “Not gonna stop till you say yes, doll.”
He’s laughing, too, clearly enjoying her misery. He hears her let out a breathy little yes while he’s still running his fingers up her sides. “What’s that? Did you hear something? Because I didn’t!”
“Yes, sheesh YES I WILL MARRY YOU, SHAWN! Please stop!” He pulls her up, quickly slipping on the ring and gathering her in his arms, burying his face into her neck, finally crying out freely. Everything felt complete, finally, he couldn’t wait to start this new stage of his life with her. He was going to be a married man soon, nobody pinch him.
“Wait,” she speaks, pushing him away a bit so she can see his face, “Is this why you kept talking about the wedding? You were talking about our wedding this whole time?”
“Yes, I know I get it I’m forgetful! I guess, I was so caught up in what was happening and what I wanted that I mixed the two.” He sighs, a little hazy after the sharp turn of events in the night. “Wow, I wish we had recorded this, I can’t believe you thought I said no to you, baby who do you think I am?”
“Already one step ahead of you - say hi to the camera!” She grins, pointing to her phone next to them. He lets out an of course you would and she only laughs in response and he decides that he needs to hear that for the rest of the life if possible. He looks into the camera and sees an image of them both looking like a hot mess, kneeling in the middle of their living room, faces flushed and eyes bright because of the cry fest that just took place.
“Hi guys, we’re engaged!” And she lets out a yelp showing off her hand to the screen. “Shawn Mendes isn’t my boyfriend anymore, he’s my fiancé! There should be a new filter!”
“Wait, does this mean we get cocoa at our wedding now?”

Second Lead (Oikawa x Reader)
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: GIF does not belong to me
Summary: Oikawa learns about your role as the second lead in your upcoming play, and doesn’t particularly like it.
Word Count: 1.8K
Genre: Fluff, Slight Smut
“So you’re telling me your character is carrying the weight of her dumb friend, has always been second to the boy she likes, and when she confesses to him he just kisses her goodbye out of pity before he leaves her?” You’re boyfriend Tooru almost yells in frustration after you told him about your role in your upcoming play; you actually had this conversation with him before but he can’t seem to get over it. You couldn’t really tell if he was getting upset about your character deserving better or about you kissing a boy that wasn’t him.
“Yeah, you pretty much summed it up.” You shrugged as you opened a bottle of green tea flavored iced tea.
“Ugh! I really don’t like this!” He pouted and sunk into the couch you were both sat at.
Having a drama queen for a boyfriend meant you could never have peace and quiet, but you still signed up for it anyway. Turning over to face him, you took the pillow he was hugging out of his hands and leaned towards him. “Babe, we already talked about this, can’t we just watch Avatar now?” You put your arms around him.
Oikawa tried not to melt into your touch and still pouted. You sighed as your antics failed and lied down on his lap. “It’s just a peck on stage, I promise,” You told him, he never told you that he was against you kissing some other man but you knew that it would upset him, being the petty ass that he is.
“Can I come backstage and kiss you in front of him?” He asked seriously.
“No.”
“Then can you kiss me in front him? You can mess up my hair and get all rough if you want to.”
You put up your hands over your face, sighing, “Look, Tooru you can come backstage if you promise to behave, okay?”
“Why would you say that? I’m a people’s person, you think I’m some kind of kid?” He asked indignantly.
You just nodded in response to his question.
“Ah [Y/N]-chan! You’re so mean!!” He whined as he softly pinched your cheeks.
Taking his hands in yours and pulling them away from further attacking your face, “Well the play is a few weeks away, I don’t want you pouting all the time.” You sat up as you told him. You leaned your head onto his shoulder and opened your Netflix account.
“Kiss me more,”
“What?”
Oikawa turned to face you and put his arms on your shoulders, looking at you intensely, “I want us to kiss more.”
Feeling you face heat up at his sudden request, you don’t know how he could just say things like that out of the blue so bluntly. “Okay.” You said softly.
Sliding his hands to your waist, he pushed you down and leaned in until his nose brushed against yours. “Ah [Y/N]-chan, you’re so cute when you blush,” he said and kissed your lips.
You watched fewer episodes than you had planned, but made out a lot. And Oikawa didn’t hesitate to vent out that the show robbed us of Zutara.
Tooru took any opportunity he could to kiss you, he said he needed one before he left for practice and one after he came. He also kissed you before you went to work and as soon as you got home too. It was really cute you had to admit, but as the days of your play grew closer, his methods of asking you for a kiss became somewhat annoying.
He started by hiding a pair of your stuff like the bitch he was.
“Oh can’t find your other earring? Maybe it’ll magically appear if we made out right now.”
Then your favorite drink wasn’t in the fridge anymore, and you swear you restocked yesterday. You suspiciously looked at Tooru who was chilling in front of the TV. And as if he felt you looking at him, he looked at you, “What’s up baby?” He asked with feint innocence. You rolled your eyes at his fake act.
“I don’t know you tell me,” You said gesturing to the iced tea empty fridge.
“Oh no, where’s you iced tea?” He walked over to you and continued his act.
“Let me guess, if I kiss you it’ll suddenly appear?” You shifted your weight on your leg and raised your eyebrow.
“Uh-huh,” He replied with a smile.
Oh god. This boy was really a handful but you just couldn’t get mad at him.
His antics continued as he hid your toothbrush that same night, told you he wouldn’t hog the blanket if you kissed him and tried to hide your underwear but stopped because you told him he’d sleep on the couch if he did that.
Your boy was a handful, and he started getting creative too.
“You know I heard that if you kiss your boyfriend on golden hour, you’ll have a higher chance of getting a longer life than others.”
“Babe, babe, kiss me it’s midnight.”
“I saw a single cloud in the sky today, that means we should make out!”
“Iwa-chan was so mean today, kiss me!”
You happily kissed him every time. You loved your boy, even though he was a petty man child, you still loved him. He was doing this out of love, you knew, however you couldn’t help but feel there was something that wasn’t right.
It was Friday noon and you had the rest of the day off, you couldn’t wait to go home and relax knowing Oikawa still had practice and would come later at night.
As you started packing your things, your friend came over “So is anyone special coming to see the play?” She asked as she tied her hair.
“Yea, my boyfriend.” You say with a smile.
“Aww, is he the guy on your lockscreen?” She cooed. You still remember that day, it was when he asked if he could be your boyfriend and as soon as you said yes, he took a selfie and made it your lockscreen. He also named himself The Love of My Life on your phone.
Looking at the boy on your lockscreen, you wonder why he’s been acting weird lately, “Yea, but he’s been acting weird ever sense I told him about my character.”
Your friend walked over and sat next to you, “Is it his first time with an actor?”
You remember Tooru telling you that you were the first actor he met and dated in his life. “Yea,” you replied.
“You really need to talk to him, we actors see things differently so you should clear things out. You don’t want any misunderstandings in a relationship trust me.” She seemed to know from experience by her tone. You patted her shoulder and thanked her for her advice before you left. You planned to have a serious talk with Tooru tonight and you weren’t going to let him avoid it this time.
Coming home you took a bath and did a skin care routine by Vogue, which was really soothing and you should’ve done it ages ago. You then decided to bake brownies. The apartment smelled so sweet as you arranged the brownies on a plate and put it in the living room. You couldn’t wait for Oikawa to come but it was a couple hours away.
You lied in bed with your laptop. You opened your Netflix account to kill some time but was surprised to see it ask for your password, as you typed in your password it told you it was incorrect. You tried again but it was no use.
That bitch.
This was the last straw. You shut the lid of your laptop and got out of bed. You wanted to kill him, your account was working yesterday, he knew you had a half day today.
Seething, you went to the living room and started planning his demise. Visualizing him being strangled did calm you down; you wanted to slap him to tomorrow. Him and his stupid fake little act. How dare he.
Hearing the front door open broke you out of your murderous thoughts, it’s time.
You stood up, hand on you waist. He just wants to make out huh.
“Hiii ba- mmph!”
You kissed him as soon as he stepped inside the living room. You put your arms around his neck and pulled him close, leading him to the couch. Tooru groaned as you tugged at his hair and he put him arms around your waist, you weren’t going to let him dominate the kiss this easily. You surprised him by pushing him on the couch and straddling him; he let out a gasp and you deepened the kiss by pushing your tongue against his and placed your hand on his neck. You bit his lower lip as you slowly pulled away and slid your hands on his chest, still straddling him.
“Look Tooru, enough is enough. As much as asking me for a kiss all the time is adorable, I know something is up. I don’t know if you’re that sad about my character or if it’s about me kissing another actor, I want you to tell me what’s upsetting you.” You could feel his heart racing under your palm, his chest raising and falling quickly, and his face was getting red. He looked flawless under you.
He was breathless. Moving his arms to cover his face, embarrassed to look at you, “I just thought about you playing that character, trying to find someone to love but you didn’t get the ending that you deserved. I know it’s just a character but I thought... Maybe if I kissed you a lot more you’d feel loved like you deserve to be. And maybe I was jealous that you’d be kissing someone that isn’t me.”
Your heart raced at his confession, that was the sweetest thing ever. You loved this boy so much, you didn’t think it was possible to love him more but he just proved you could. Taking his wrists in your hand you gently moved them away from his face, he was still red and cute. You leaned in and kissed his forehead. “Tooru, you’re too cute sometimes, you know that?”
You cupped his face, with your face still inches away from him. “I know you love me, babe. You don’t have to worry about that at all. You make me so happy and I seriously love you so much my heart hurts sometimes, I don’t want anyone else but you, okay?”
He nodded in response like a kid, you smiled and kissed his head again.
As you leaned back up, he put his hands on your hips. “Hey, [Y/N]-chan?” He let out in a shaky breath.
“Yeah?”
You felt him getting hard under you. “I love it when you top me like this.”
Yikes

Good Thing - Mingi (Epilogue)
Member: Mingi Genre: Fluff Requested: Sort of? Word Count: ~2k Content: Just Y/N and Mingi in the work life. Good vibes. Note: Yay an epilogue as requested by some of you haha. I didn’t really think i’d be making one but here we are.
Music plays from the speakers in a low lull. The male leans forward as he listens closely to what he and his team have been making over the past few days. So far, they’ve been able to create a handful of rough drafts of what the artist wants, though so far none of them have made Mingi think that it could be it. Two knocks on the door and he lowers the volume, and presses pause on the software. “Yeah?” He calls out, the editing software still present on the screen.
“Can I come in?”
He turns in his chair, relieved to hear your voice come from the door. He’s greeted by your smile. He also notes that you were in your dance attire, which could only mean you were teaching a routine later on. He pulls another chair next to him, patting the empty seat. “Thank god it’s you. If it was anyone from my team, I would’ve lost it.” He jokes, much to your amusement. As you settle yourself down next to him, he steals a kiss on your cheek, getting a whiff of his favorite perfume on you.
Truth be told, both of you didn’t officially become together until a year or two later. Post graduation blues, the stress of looking for a job and overall just trying to get to know the other better being just some of the things that hindered the two of you from doing so. Fortunately for the two of you, it worked out in the end. Even better is that both of you are working under the same company.
Your eyes quickly catch the exhaustion under his eyes, hours of staring at the computer over the smallest beats really did a number on him. You also note his outfit, the only time he’s in a button up is when he’s expecting guests, which could be the artists based on the name of the file. “I brought some food cause we both know you forget to eat now.” You tease lightheartedly. Pork belly and various other side dishes from his favorite restaurant down the street. “I wasn’t able to get your favorite noodles since they ran out for the day.” You explain as you set the bag of food to the side, away from all the technology in front of you.
“Now it’s you taking care of me? Oh how the tables have turned.” Mingi muses, eyeing the food. He pushes himself away from his work table, settling himself in front of the food you bought. “Eat with me?” He knows you can’t say no to that. Even if you now lived together, schedules were so hectic nowadays that the only times both of you could bond were over a meal or in bed. It was great that both of you were under the same company but not so much that both of you could barely see each other unless it was for a meal. “Love, you bought food that’s more than enough for three people.” He notes as he brings each container out of the bag.
You laugh, dragging the wheeled chair towards where he is to help him out in setting up the meal. “That’s the point, love. You eat more than I can and it’s also to make sure you don’t eat less than usual while working.” You learned early in your relationship that he has a tendency to eat less when he’s riding the creative high. You wondered if he got this habit from his colleague, Hongjoong.
Too elated at the sight of his favorites, he steals another kiss, this time on your lips. He was always the more physically affectionate one between the two of you. “I love you.” He says, grateful for this.
You return the kiss before he’s out of reach. “Anything for you. Now eat and tell me how your work has been.”
That’s what happens between the two of you for the next three hours: eating and discussing his work, your work, the artists in the company, the auditionees who look promising, and everything under the sun. “There’s this one trainee who reminds me a lot of you. I’m hoping you get to meet them soon.” You say, tone a little soft and endeared. The young trainee’s vigor reminds you so much of Mingi, his tendency to cheer for his fellow trainees with pats on the back and head pats. Your tone makes Mingi crack up.
“Wait until they meet someone like you.” He teases and before you could shoot a retort at him, he manages to shoot a small pork belly wrap in your mouth. “Three points.” He hums, delighted to take you by surprise like old times. You glower at him as you chew through the food. As you clean up the last of your meal, a few knocks could be heard. While you return you attention to cleaning up the place, Mingi asks who’s by the door.
In comes Hongjoong who manages to smell the pork. “You guys ate without me?” He asks with a pout. It’s crazy how this male managed to make the trainees cower in fear when he’s in front of you whining over food. He’s also partly why you’ve toned down the intimidation factor in you.
His whines make your lover laugh. “Yeah, sorry, hHung. Maybe later for dinner, we can catch a meal together with Seonghwa.” Seonghwa teaches the trainees dance with you, but is in charge as well of the auditionees when he has time. He’s also the reason why you’ve softened up.
“If I finish teaching the trainees early, I can grab coffee for the four of us.” You offer. In two hours, you would be teaching the trainees a piece for their monthly evaluations. Hongjoong notices that you were already by the door.
“Leaving so soon?” He asks and you catch Mingi pouting at you from behind Hongjoong.
You gesture to the door. “I mean, you guys are expecting someone soon. Also don’t you guys have stuff to do now?” It’s not that you wanted to leave immediately, but being part of an industry that relies on creativity, you know firsthand that being distracted can be stressful down the line.
The older man shakes his head. “It’s fine. One, Mingi here would love to have you here a little longer.” He starts, with a gesture to the man behind him. His statement making Mingi’s ears burn bright red. “Two, we want your thoughts on this track. It’s you who’s making the choreography as well.”
As you listen to his explanation, your gaze goes to your lover who was doing his best to avoid your gaze. Still shy as ever. “Sure thing, Hongjoong.” You set the bag by a corner then approach the two, sitting next to Mingi as they start catching you up to date with the progress of one of the finalized songs. As you settle into your seat once more, it’s become a habit that your knees would touch his. No matter what the two of you are doing, if the two of you are next to each other, your knees would graze the other’s. They play the song and you keep quiet, deep in your thoughts. For the next hour, the three of you discuss overlooked details and well thought of verses until everything has become up to standard to the three of you. A rarity since you often butt heads with Hongjoong. You look at the time: one hour until you teach. “I should get ready to teach the kids.” With that, you stand up and stretch your back for a few moments.
“Dinner?” Mingi asks as you set the chair away. You didn’t need him to expound. You know what he means by that. Instead of answering him explicitly, your lips graze lightly against his cheek, much to Hongjoong’s delight at the flustered expression on the male.
You wave goodbye to the two of them, making your way to the dance studio. The time you spent with Mingi giving you the energy you need to last through the next few hours with the trainees. You peek into the studio and you’re already greeted by the trainees helping each other on the piece and you can’t help but hope they make it big in the industry.
“Hey everyone! Should we get started?”
---
It’s already past midnight when the two of you arrive back at your apartment. Both of you dropping your bags in the living room, exhausted sighs and groans slipping from your lips. “I’ll get the shower ready.” Mingi says as he drags his tired legs to the bathroom. You get your used clothes into the washing machine, keeping a note to put them in the dryer when you wake up the following day.
The two of you spend the next few minutes in the shower, washing each other’s body carefully. You carefully knead out the knots on Mingi’s shoulders, a result of being hunched over the computer and instruments for hours at a time. He does the same to your neck as both of you let the hair conditioner set in. In the entire duration of your relationship, you’ve grown to have a habit of pressing a kiss on the base of the other’s neck after cleaning after them in the shower.
Before you know it, the two of you were buried under the blankets, legs tangled against each other. Words didn’t need to be exchanged at this point, both of you spent from today’s hectic schedule. Instead, both of you revel in the silence, taking this opportunity to gaze and study the features of your partner’s face. The way the eyelashes flutter as one tries to stay awake, hoping to catch the other fall asleep first, the way one’s lips shiver as they stifle a yawn, the gentle sigh of comfort of being in your lover’s arms in bed.
Even with the lights off, you could see just how much Mingi adored you, and you hoped he could see how you felt the same way if not more. You feel his cheek lean into your touch and you swear you could feel your heart soar at that moment.
You notice him drifting off to sleep and your lips graze against his eyelids, then lightly on his lips. “Sleep well, babe. You deserve the rest.” You whisper against his skin, snuggling a little closer to him before giving in to the comfort of slumber with him.

Young Just us college au
Rent a room, Dick said. It’ll be a nice experience. Don’t just buy a flat, that’s boring and lonely.
Tim had tried to tell his brother that maybe he prefered lonely to crazy, but Dick had insisted. And everyone knew just how difficult dealing with that could be, so he knew better than to resist.
At least, he had tried to comfort himself, he knew the people he’d be rooming with. They were all his friends, an odd assortment of assholes he’d picked up on school, summer camps, vacation trips, scientific events, even comic cons, and just… fell platonically in love with them.
Maybe, as Dick said, it would be fine.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-
No, it wasn’t fine.
-Jay -he whispered into the phone, hoping he wouldn't be heard by the others on the other side of the door- Jay, they are crazy. I need extraction asap. We could fake my death and I can go to University somewhere else.
The older man laughed in the other end of the receiver, the sound of pages rustling indicating Tim had caught him during his daily grading paper sesion. That was the sound of crying students dying over carefully demolished arguments.
-They are all your friends, Timbo. If you fake your death, you’ll need to start over again and meet new people.
Tim hissed.
-Exactly, babybird. Also, this is day one of sharing a house, how bad can it possibly be?
-Jay, they left the kitchen lights on. It’s daytime! Why the hell do they need the lights on? Aren’t they aware of how big the bill is gonna be if they are like this?
-...Timmy, you… you are a billionaire. I think that should be the last of your concerns.
-That’s not the only thing. It’s so noisy, Jay. I choose the attic room hoping it’ll be nice and quiet. It’s not. I can hear everything. What do I do if some of them pair up? I’ll be stuck here listening to them having sex forever!
-...I don’t know where to begin.
-You can start by contacting B for me. He was right when he said it wasn’t a good idea for me to live with other people. But I can’t call him to help me out of this, because I think Dick blocked my number in his phone, and my emails don’t seem to be reaching him.
-He said it because you are the purest of his children, and he knew college was corruptive enough without adding dorm sharing to it; that was his version of helicopter parenting. But Timbo, it’s moving day. You’ve been there for less than five hours. And you already emailed B?
-The first thing Slobo did when he came in was to fart. In the middle of the living room. I can’t live with them, they are animals!
-They are your best friends, you’ve known them forever.
-But I never had to deal with them in a closed space for an unlimited amount of time!!! I’m trapped here.
-...
-...!
-...Are you hiding in a closet?
-...no. That would be stupid, in a three story house where I have my own/
-You are, ain’tcha?
-I am. Please help me?
Long sigh- I’ll meet you for coffee on the place near the Economics building so you have an excuse to be out for the evening while the others finish their moving. You’re done with your part, right?
-Yes! Thank you!
-You owe me.
-Next time Dick wants bonding time, I’ll sacrifice myself volunteering so you can run.
-And this is why you’re my favorite. Be there in ten.
-.-.-.-.-.-
-Tim? Tim! Here you are!
Blinking was a thing Tim suddenly remembered he needed to do, and he did it a few times as his eyes were dragged away from his book by a pair of hands on his cheeks.
-Kon? What are you doing in the library?
The other boy was panting slightly, flushed from what Tim guessed was a desperate run there.
-I was looking for you! You never came back after classes were done for the day, and you didn’t pick up your phone. We were very worried, dude.
-I was just studying, chill.
-It’s almost midnight.
No, it couldn’t be.
-No, it isn’t.  I haven’t been here that long.
Serious and slightly worried, Conner thrusted his own phone in Tim’s face and… uh. Look at that. It was nearly midnight.
-Oh. Got distracted with research, sorry.
-It’s been barely two weeks, how much can you possibly need to study?
Unprompted, Kon started to help him pack his books and papers. He seemed utterly amazed by the almost illegible graphs and charts.
-No, this isn’t homework. I’m working on a thing for WE…
The rest of the way home was spent with Tim talking Conner’s ear off about shit he had absolutely no idea about, but didn’t complain, just holding Tim’s backpack with one hand while steering his sleep deprived friend back home with the other.
-.-.-.-.-.
-Bart? -Tim yawned, getting into the kitchen and raising a confused eyebrow at his friend- It’s… three am. What are you doing awake?
-Stress baking -the smaller boy replied, never stopping stirring the bowl- You?
-Papers and presentations.
-Classes or WE?
-Bit of both. What are you making?
-Cupcakes. Want some?
-They’ll go great with coffee, thanks.
They spent the next half hour waiting for the oven to do its magic talking about video games, classes and evil teachers.
-Your brother is the worst. TA. Ever. He always grades my papers and he’s a bitch about them.
-He relishes in the pain. It’s what keeps him young. I swear he never grew  past fifteen.
-It’s scary, and honestly so annoying. Like, I get pointing out mistakes, but he doesn’t need to be a passive aggressive ass about it.
-I’ll let him know what you think.
-Please don’t. I’m afraid of him, and the power he holds in his hands. The power to make me fail Creative Writing.
-Why are you even taking that class? Actually, what even is your major?
A shrug, and before Bart could open his mouth to reply, the timer let them know the cupcakes where done.
-You can have one before bedtime, dude. The circles under your eyes look like make up at this point.
-You are one to talk, mister Stress Baking at Three in the Morning.
-But unlike you, I don’t have to be up at the ass of dawn. C’mon, have one of these and back up you go.
-Bite me.
-I’d rather bite this peanut butter miracle, but if you insist…
-No! Bart, get away from me!
-Then go to bed!
-Go to hell!
-I AM in hell! I have Jason Fucking Todd as my TA!
-IF YOU DON’T GO BACK TO BED RIGHT NOW, I’LL KICK YOU BOTH ALL THE WAY THERE! -Cassie’s voice echoed in the walls, and they both blanched at the reminder that her room was, in fact, in ground floor.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-
A part of college Tim had never considered, let alone readied himself for, was the… party bit.
-What do you mean, of course you’re coming -laughed Anita, clutches firm on Tim’s sleeve as she dragged him into hers and Cassie’s room.
-No, I have to study for…
-You don’t have any midterm or final this week. I know, because I checked. No papers due either. This is literally the perfect time for you to party.
-I can’t, I…
-Suck at socializing? Yeah, cher, I’m aware. That’s why awesome me is taking you as my plus one for this party. No need to thank me, glad to be your social buffer whenever you need me.
Tim started to resist in earnest when they got into the room and he caught a glimpse of the clothing Anita had apparently chosen for him.
-There’s no way I’m fitting into those pants! Let me go!
-I’ve seen you squeezing your butt into the vent that one time when Kon threw the key to the coffee maker cabinet inside it. If you could get in there, these pants are a piece of cake.
-No!
-Don’t make me hurt you, Drake.
-Anita…!
-Ugh! -she stopped, dropping Tim on her bed and crossing her arms. She averted her eyes- My ex is gonna be at the party. I might have been exaggerating a bit when I said I was over him, but I already promised my friends I was gonna be there. I… could really use your help here. I know it’s not your scene, but Kon and Bart have midterms, Slobo would straight up punch my ex with his astounding lack of subtlety, Miguel is away dealing with family stuff, and the girls are awesome but not really what I need right now.
A pause.
-Okay, but I’m absolutely not putting on that crop top. And we better not end up wasted, I have a reputation to uphold.
Spoiler alert: he did put on the crop top. And they had to call Conner to walk them home after the third time Tim walked into a lamp post and Anita fell into the campus’ pond.
-.-.-.-.-
They were walking back home late on a Friday when they were approached by a group of stupid, drunk dudebros. Tim was already dreading the moments to come before they even spoke, just by the way they kept eyeing Cassie’s legs and Anita’s rack. Cissie herself was wearing loose pants and a sweater, so she was safe from their disgusting examination. Not that it kept her from crossing her arms and looking down at the assholes.
-Heyyyyy, ladies. Wanna go clubbing with us?
Tim shrugged- He’s talking to you, girls. I’m out. Have fun.
Cassie caught him by his hoodie before he could take a single step. He heard her warning clear as day and sighed, defeated.
-Yess, you can go -slurred Dudebro number two, waving him away- There’ three of us, and three of those pretty things. You can get lost.
-See, Cass? Hear the gentlemen. You don’t need me here.
Anita kicked him in the shin.
-No. We just got our nails done. You either solve this peacefully, or take care of it if it turns dirty. Why do you even walk us home if not to protect us from creepers like these?
A loud ‘hey’ came from the dudebros, but Tim ignored them. Silently, he pointed at Cassie’s legs (he had seen her crushing a watermelon between them once), Cissie’s arms (a thing of beauty that made multiple lesbians all around campus cry) and Anita’s katana (that she wasn’t supposed to keep on her person around other students, but who was gonna enforce any rules on the girl with the giant knife?).
-Excuse me? You three should be protecting me. I’m a rich, sheltered boy.
Apparently done being ignored, the three idiots decided this was a good time to throw the first punch. Which Tim dodged, without breaking eye contact with Cassie. She raised her eyebrow, not moving an inch. Cissie was examining her nails. Anita’s eyes promised hell.
He sighed, turned around, caught the second coming punch, and used the hand under his palm to force the dudebro to his knees. A knee to the face and then he turned to the other two.
Next time, Slobo was walking with them.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Flip side:  the attic room had its own bathroom. Significantly smaller than the ones on the other two floors, but hey, no sharing.
The downside: apparently, the bathroom vents all connected with one another, and because of their aligning schedules, he often took showers at the same time Miguel did.
Flip side: Miguel had the singing voice of an angel, and the acoustic was fantastic. Showers were rarely boring now.
Downside again: Tim often forgot himself and sang along, but his voice… wasn’t as pretty.
Flip side again: at least, judging by Miguel’s smile, he found it adorable rather than pathetic.
Downside number three: Greta and Cissie’s room, by some unsolved mystery, also had connecting vents to the bathroom, and the archer girl was… less charitable about Tim’s inability to sing.
Flip side: Greta liked him better than most of their house mates, and she had more than enough dirt on Cissie to keep her from sharing the secret of Tim’s awful voice.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
-Hey, baby bird. Sorry I’m calling just now, it’s been a while.
-Hey Jay. Don’t worry, you’re busy grading papers.
-How do you know?
-Bart was crying in the tub this morning. Completely clothed and eating nachos with whipped cream, I might add.
-What is that boy even studying? I know he has Chem classes, Roy is his TA, and Kory saw him in the designer’s building.
-That is an unsolved mystery for the ages.
-Hey, speaking of your housemates, how’s it going?
Tim stopped on his way out of the kitchen, eyes growing fond as he examined the group on the living room. They were fighting over that night’s movie choice. He didn’t know why they tried, Greta was gonna win. Nobody could resist her and Miguel’s puppy eyes.
-It’s… it’s been great, actually.
-Uh huh.
-But don’t tell Dick. He’ll be unbearably smug.
-Of course I won’t. You still have that time I crashed B’s favorite car on me.
-Oh, Oh fuck! -came Slobo’s voice- TIM, BRING THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER!
A loud crash. Tim winced, eyes leaving his friend in favor of the wall. If he didn’t see it, it wasn’t happening.
-TIM, BUD, WE NEED SOME HELP HERE!
-...what was that, Timbo?
-Nothing.
-TIM, TIM, THE TV IS ON FIRE!!! COME QUICKLY BEFORE IT REACHES THE XBOX OR SO HELP ME GOD I’M MURDERING EVERYONE IN THIS ROOM!
-...Tim?
-Don’t tell B.
-Gotcha. Going to save their lives?
-More like hiding in my room until they sort themselves out or die. Good luck on those papers.
-Good luck on surviving.

Girl I Met On The Internet, 2/? (Crystal x Gigi) - Strawberry
a/n: aaaa i’m so glad everyone liked the first chapter! i think this story will end up staying focused on gigi and crystal for the most part, but there is some (one sided) jankie in this chapter if you’re into that! also: just in case no one got the reference, the nickname crystal gives gigi, ‘georgia rose’,comes from the 1d lyrics “Said her name was georgia rose, and her daddy was a dentist” from their song ‘best song ever’!
gigi: are u okay :( ily crystal
crystal: yeah i just got picked on by this cheerleader that doesnt like me
Technically, she wasn’t lying. Crystal didn’t think it was too bad, considering she really only ever saw Dahlia in history class, but she still made it her mission to make that 45 minutes rough for Crystal whenever possible. This time it was pushing all of Crystal’s belongings off of her desk while she was leaving.
gigi: fuck. im sorry.
crystal: it’s fine dskjdshjgkjf i wish all cheerleaders could take notes from you and jan
gigi: yaaas me and jan invented being nice
gigi: but i was wondering if maybe you could teach me about one direction later tonight?
Crystal had tried to convince the group earlier in the week that One Direction was the best boy band ever, and had only managed to get Jan to agree. She was glad that Gigi had finally come to her senses.
crystal: finally changing your mind? amazayn!
gigi: i regret asking now. take that pun back to 2011!!!!
The rest of the day went as normal. The chat was pretty active, but eventually died down at the end of the school day. Everyone seemed to have plans; Jan was studying, Jaida was going out to hang with friends, Nicky was sleeping, and Heidi was starting a new challenge on the Sims. It appeared to be just her and Gigi, alone in the group chat.
Crystal decided to message Gigi privately, not wanting the rest of the girls to see her go into full stan mode. If someone asked Crystal about her interests, she could go hours before thinking of stopping herself.
crystal: ok miss gigi are you ready for your 1d crash course?
Crystal told Gigi everything she wanted to know and even more. A history of how they got together, way too much information on each of the five boys, telling her the best songs on each album, and making sure that Gigi knew ‘Midnight Memories’ was their best album.
gigi: but ur @ is dedicated to made in the am?? fraud!
crystal: HELPFDFHBJ
crystal: mmcrystal sounds weird… like no thanks
gigi: that was very interesting.. i’ll def listen to midnight memories in the morning <3
crystal: YAY! gigi 1d stan finally
gigi: no promises! :)
Crystal didn’t respond to that, not really knowing what to talk about now. Having a group of friends helped her be less awkward, but it definitely didn’t fix that problem completely.
gigi: do u wanna play 21 questions or something?? to get to know eachother better???
Of course, Crystal jumped at the chance to get to know the other girl better. It started very innocently, asking about favorite colors and foods. Gigi quickly changed that.
gigi: uhh… have u ever kissed a girl?
crystal: sadly no.. my state is full of straight people
gigi: same.. ur turn
crystal: this feels awkward to ask but uhhh….
As soon as she hits send, she instantly regrets it. She backtracks what she had originally typed, desperately trying to come up with another question. Crystal was not able to think of anything else.
gigi: ????
“I guess I’ll have to do it,” Crystal says, talking to absolutely no one. She types it out again, looking away from her phone as she blindly tried to hit the send button, like it would help her situation be any less flustering for her.
crystal: how long have you and nicky been dating?
Would Gigi find it weird that she asked? Gigi was the one who brought up kissing girls, not Crystal, so it would be fine. Right?
gigi: CRYSTAL WHATBDGNHSDMFD
gigi: nicky and i are not dating omg im single
gigi: she’s like my sister. plus i would never do long distance
Crystal was so embarrassed. She was relieved this conversation was taking place through a screen, so Gigi wouldn’t see her blushing face.
She was pleased that she was wrong about the two girls, but Gigi’s answer was upsetting to her.
They asked a few more personal questions before Gigi started asking Crystal would you rather questions instead. Crystal’s favorite out of them was if she would rather get a mullet or dress like a clown every day for the rest of her high school career. The answer was both, obviously.
They spent the rest of the night sending each other stupid questions, giggling to themselves. The later it got, the more Gigi would flirt with her. At least Crystal thought it was flirting.
gigi: it’s really late and i have a test tomorrow so im gonna go to sleep. goodnight, babe
Gigi always would say ‘goodnight, bitch’, and this made Crystal even more confused. The ongoing joke that lesbians had the hardest time telling if a girl is into them or not was one of Crystal’s favorites, but now she couldn’t help but wonder if that was exactly what was happening to her. There was obviously a connection between them, but it was unclear to Crystal if it was just platonic.
It didn’t hit her until later that night, while she was trying to fall asleep, but Crystal wasn’t entirely sure where Gigi lived. She knew they were in the same time zone, but wasn’t sure what state she was in. It was totally possible that Gigi lived in Missouri, but Crystal highly doubted it. Though Gigi obviously trusted Crystal enough to want to play 21 questions with her, she was still very private, and Crystal wasn’t too sure if Gigi would tell her what state she was in.
Crystal fell asleep thinking about her highly unrealistic perfect world, where Gigi lived in Missouri and where Crystal wasn’t just another Nicky.
-
Crystal got onto Twitter right after waking up the next morning, ready to ask Gigi if she happened to live in Missouri, but quickly got distracted with a very interesting conversation going on in the group chat.
jan!: now i may not be gay but i’m in love with a woman… 2 words jackie
jaida: i- that’s only one word
jan!: fuck
heidi: the way i can’t tell if you’re joking or not
jan!: the way i don’t think i am joking
gigi: YAAS about time u admitted that u like her
crystal: hold on i thought jan was straight?? who’s jackie???
nicky: do you really think a straight person would hang out with us?
crystal: good point
jan!: I AM STRAIGHT! i think? i don’t know i’m so confused.
heidi: jackie is jan’s local @ crystal
gigi: jan be like: im straight.
gigi: but also jan is like: wow jackie is so pretty and she’s so funny and smart i’m going to fail geometry so she can tutor me but no homo!
heidi: the delusion janice has…
jaida: not to be serious but if you think you like jackie, you probably aren’t straight baby. everyone else hush and let her talk
nicky: ^^ yeah jan what happened
jan!: first of all i did not fail geometry i just said we should study together so we did!!! and have been for months! but last night i couldn’t focus at all bc she’s so pretty all i wanted to do was k*ss her out of nowhere
In a way, Crystal could definitely relate. Gigi wasn’t her local, she still didn’t know what the girl looked like, but she still kind of wanted to kiss her. She couldn’t focus on anything besides Gigi sometimes, not like she would ever admit it.
All of the girls had sent many comforting messages addressed to Jan, saying that it was okay, and she has all the time she needs to figure out her feelings. Afterwards, everyone had gone back to being playful. Gigi also tried to convince her to make a move on Jackie, which Jan refused.
gigi: if u talk to her u guys can get married <3
crystal: gigi you’re so stupid i love it
jan!: omg did someone say stupid love??? stream!
gigi: crystal back me up :(
crystal: i might’ve found out who jackie is only 10 minutes ago but i will cry if jan doesn’t talk to her right now
jan!: better start crying bc i dont think i can even look at her now
jaida: that’s not saying much at all. you cried the other day bc gigi sent a pic of her dog
crystal: I AM A NANCY STAN FIRST AND A HUMAN SECOND!!
Crystal knew she looked like an idiot, walking to her locker with her eyes glued to her phone and a dopey smile on her face but she couldn’t care less.
-
The day actually went well for Crystal. The highlight of her day was finding out that the story she wrote for her creative writing class had gotten the highest grade out of everyone in the class, earning her a piece of candy.
crystal: just got candy and a 99% on my story for class… i truly have the mind of a mastermind
jaida: beauty and intelligence in one combined!
Navigating through the halls was much more difficult when your eyes are glued to your phone, but replying to a meme Jaida sent seemed much more appealing to Crystal than getting to her seventh period without worrying about bumping into someone.  And bumping into someone, she did.
“What the actual fuck, weirdo?” Dahlia yelped, looking extremely offended, “Get off of your sad, cracked phone and watch where your dumb ass is going.”
Crystal just stared at her, frozen in fear. Dahlia taunted her daily, but this was very different from how she usually acts towards her. It was quite terrifying.
“I swear to God, if you ever look at me, let alone fucking touch me again-” She continued, but before she could finish her statement, she was interrupted by her friend, Georgina running over and pulling her away.
Crystal didn’t think Georgina shared Dahlia's hatred for her, and Crystal didn’t hate Georgina either. Georgina actually seemed very sweet besides the fact that she had never bothered to step in on the rare occasion Dahlia happened to target Crystal outside of class.
“Can you please leave her alone? We don’t have time for this.” Georgina groaned, looking back at Crystal, flashing her a quick smile, before turning around to escort Dahlia to what Crystal assumed was cheerleading practice.
“But she bumped into me!” Dahlia whined, not used to being interrupted like this.
“Really? Wow, funny. I don’t care.”
Once they were out of sight, Crystal was alone again. She pulled out her phone and went to check if anyone had said anything else in the chat; just Jan freaking out, because Jackie had smiled at her in the hallway.
heidi: everyone say i if you think jan should stop being a baby and ask jackie out
jaida: i
crystal: i
jan!: WTF
jan!: friendship ended with heidi, jaida and crystal. now nicky and gigi are my best friends
jaida: they would say i too if they were online and you know that
jan!: i don’t need friends! they disappoint me!
Crystal decided to not use her phone while she was walking home, not wanting to have a repeat of the Dahlia situation. Her after school routine changed a lot in the past week, making a rule to not check Twitter before completing her homework. Her Twitter addiction was getting worse, but since it was also causing her to be more productive with doing her homework, she saw no issues with it. Once she had finished, she picked up her phone to see that Gigi had messaged her less than a minute ago.
gigi: hey clown :) im done w practice
crystal: WHY AM I A CLOWNDFSHDM
gigi: u just have clown energy. i cant and wont explain
crystal: honestly yeah i see it but can i at least be your clown wife or something
gigi: yeah <3 hey clown wife! i listened to most of midnight memories and it was really good! my fave song is u and i
If that’s not love, then what is? If that’s not friendship, then what is? Crystal had never been able to get anyone to listen to anything she recommended, ever. She was filled with glee, double tapping the message to heart it. It meant a lot to her.
crystal: YAYAYAYAYA im so glad but it looks so ugly when you spell it like that
gigi: my fave song you and i* >:(
crystal: better
gigi: if i have to stop spelling it as u to make you not divorce me i will
Crystal knew deep down it was just a joke, but it made her heart race. The feeling she got every time Gigi would flirt with her was very unfamiliar, but very nice. It didn’t help that Crystal thought ‘You and I’ was one of the most romantic songs One Direction had, she couldn’t help but make the fact Gigi liked it out of all of the other songs into something it was not.
This reminded her of her late night thoughts. She had completely forgotten to ask Gigi where she lived, but the idea didn’t seem the greatest now that she was fully awake. She was still curious though, so against her better judgement she asked, without a segway or anything.
crystal: i forgot to ask but what state do you live in? asking for science
gigi: oh i live in missouri
crystal: omg me too
gigi: i don’t wanna reveal where but this is amazing.. maybe we won’t have to break the distance at all <3
Pleased that she somehow got an answer, Crystal changed the conversation into a discussion of ‘Midnight Memories’, and if Gigi agreed with the opinions Crystal had shared the night before. She did, for the most part and before they knew it, it was time for Gigi to go sleep. Had they really talked all evening?
gigi: i have to get up early so i need to go to sleep but im really glad jan added u to the gc
crystal: and im happy you asked me about one direction!
gigi: me too. ur cute when ur passionate. i hope we can continue to grow closer
crystal: i’d like that.
gigi: goodnight, my clown :)
crystal: goodnight, georgia rose
gigi: U DID NOT
gigi: my full name isnt even georgia and dad isnt even a dentist but i’ll allow it bc i know u think u invented comedy
gigi: ok gn now <33 luv u
crystal: gn!!! sleep well
Crystal wanted them to stay like this forever.

Lost and Found [Part Eight]
Masterlist | Ao3
Time passed, and Marinette loved every second of it, especially the time she spent with her friends. By the time she graduated from collège and moved onto lycée, her group of friends had expanded. She, Nino, Kim, Alix, Chloé, and Adrien spent as much time as they could together. The group of six had started an unofficial language-learning club. Marinette, Nino, and Chloé all made a pact to learn English, their Soulmates' primary language. Kim, Alix, and Adrien chose Japanese as their language of choice. For a while, Marinette was exceptionally proud of herself for taking the initiative to learn English, until she learned that her Soulmate's actual native language was Arabic. It took only five minutes of begging for Nino to agree to teach Marinette Arabic. She didn't pick it up as naturally as she picked up English, but after three years, she got rather proficient.
Time passed, and Marinette yearned for her Soulmate. Every Friday night for three years, she spent with her five best friends in the world. They baked cookies, watched movies, and stayed up late talking about Soulmates. But there was always something missing - her Soulmate. Marinette desperately wanted to meet him, but she knew that neither of them was ready. They were both too young. Marinette's parents didn't want her to meet him until she was at least sixteen. Still, Marinette thought that she deserved to at least know his name. After all, he learned her name when they were fourteen. Marinette had slipped up and sent him a picture of one of her pieces of artwork, a piece with her signature at the bottom. When Marinette asked him to return the favor, he decided, citing that their previous agreement to not reveal names until they were sixteen was still in effect. Marinette knew he was right. Learning more information about him would only increase the temptation to try and discover his identity, and discovering his identity would only lead to her trying to meet with him. But understanding didn't make it any easier, not when she so desperately wanted to hold his hand and talk all night with him - in person, not through paper.
Time passed, and Marinette got better at being Ladybug. She and Chat Noir learned how to work together. At first, it was a little rocky. Marinette was her clumsy self, tripping over her yo-yo string and falling flat on her face every time she tried to use her new wings. Chat Noir was a good partner, though it took him some time to figure out how to work as a team. Eventually, they both perfected their roles as Paris's superheroes. Things only got better after the superhero duo revealed their identities to each other. Learning that Chat Noir was actually her friend Adrien Agreste was a relief - Marinette already had so much on her plate, and Adrien helped take some of the load off of it.
Time passed, and the burden of fighting Hawkmoth decreased. At first, fighting him felt like a full-time job. Marinette and Adrien had to transform at all hours of the day, and sometimes the fights would last hours and require multiple retransformations. For two sleep-deprived thirteen-year-olds, it felt like hell. But eventually, Hawkmoth's attacks decreased. A viral campaign, started by none other than Chloé Bourgeoise, called on the people of Paris to be kinder to each other, to help strangers in need, to do whatever they could to prevent akumas, instead of simply waiting for Ladybug and Chat Noir to fix everything. Amazingly, it seemed to work. Hawkmoth's akumas didn't stop entirely, but overall they grew less powerful, and eventually, less frequent. Tikki and Master Fu both had their own theories for Hawkmoth's gradual decline, but Marinette believed wholeheartedly that it was Chloé's doing.
Time passed, and Marinette changed. She started as an awkward thirteen-year-old, desperately trying to juggle her Ladybug responsibilities, her schoolwork, and her relationship with her Soulmate. Three years later, and Marinette was sixteen. Confident, capable, and ready for anything. She wasn't perfect, she knew that, but Marinette felt that she just might be prepared to meet Damian.
Time passed, and Marinette and her Soulmate passed notes constantly. Three years of notes required five separate shoe boxes just to hold them all. Every one in a while, Marinette would go back and read them all.
I played my first video game today and it was more enjoyable than I expected. My friend Jon got it for me. It's called Ultimate Mecha Strike III, and apparently, his Soulmate recommended it to him. It's really popular in France, but it hasn't caught on in the United States yet. It has a multiplayer mode, so if you play it too, maybe we could play together sometime. D.
After many months of waiting, my eldest brother finally took the engagement ring out of his sock drawer. If he doesn't propose soon I fear that I might have to do it for him. D.
The macarons you sent me this morning were absolutely heavenly. Unfortunately, I made the grave mistake of sharing them with my family. If you do not send more soon, there might be a riot in my house. D.
I passed my driving test this morning. Now that I finally have my license, my brothers will stop bothering me about my illegal driving. It's not my fault that where I live, you can only get legally licensed once you reach sixteen. Frankly, I don't think I should have had to abide by it because it's a rule made for children with poor risk assessment skills. My risk assessment skills are above average, and they have always been. D.
Happy Sixteenth Birthday, Marinette. I hope that you have a wonderful day today, and I hope that this year is the year we finally get to meet face to face. Damian W.
However, it wasn't until the day of Damian's seventeenth birthday, March 19th, that Marinette and Damian finally took the first step towards meeting each other in person.
On the morning of Damian's birthday, Marinette woke up early and headed down to the kitchen. Damian's favorite treat was Marinette's lemon raspberry macarons, so it was a birthday (and half-birthday) tradition that Marinette would bake him a whole batch and send them to him one-by-one throughout the day. The macarons were just a small gift for him, though. Marinette's real birthday gift for Damian was a project she had been working on for weeks. It had taken hours upon hours of practice just to become proficient enough at knitting to even think about beginning the project, but Marinette was nothing if not persistent, especially when it came to the people she cared about. Her gift to Damian was a knitted blanket, but not just any knitted blanket. It was made of soft dark blue and white wool. Marinette had painstakingly knitted it so that it contained the same constellations as would be above Paris on the night of Damian's birthday. So that tonight, even though we are miles apart, we can be under the same night sky. Marinette hoped he would like it. Her friends all assured her that he would (Nino, hopeless romantic that he was, was brought to tears when he read the note, which Marinette hoped was a good sign).
It wasn't until late that night when Marinette was sending the last macaron to Damian, that she finally decided to send her gift.
Every day, I am amazed by you, Marinette. Your creative talent astounds me every time I look at something you created. I will treasure this blanket forever. Damian.
Marinette blushed. The only downside of meeting Damian was that he would see exactly what his words did to her, specifically, the amount that she blushed on a daily basis just from reading the notes he sent to her.
Marinette was getting ready for bed when she received another note. She was immediately curious, as this one was in an envelope.
After the longest engagement in the world (3 years, can you believe it) my brother and future sister-in-law have finally set the date for their wedding. If you are able, I would love for you to be my date for the ceremony. You wouldn't have to worry about a hotel or transportation - my house has a spare bedroom that you can sleep in. You could stay for as long as you'd like, though I know that your internship at Agreste Fashion starts on the 29th, so I'm sure you'll want to be home in time for that. I hope that I can see you soon. Damian.
Attached to the note were a wedding invitation and a plane ticket. The invitation was beautifully designed, cream paper trimmed and decorated in gold foil. YOU'RE INVITED. The ▇▇▇ family invites you to celebrate the union between ▇▇▇ and ▇▇▇. The ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 20th at 5 o'clock at ▇▇▇ Gotham, NJ.
Marinette frowned. He had blacked out the names of his brother and his brother's fiancée, as well as the street address of the wedding location. "I'm not that obsessive," Marinette complained to herself. In fairness, while her actions used to border on stalking, she had mellowed out over the past few years, partially due to becoming Ladybug.
The plane ticket didn't have anything blacked out, though none of the information gave Marinette any hints to Damian's identity, other than the fact that he lived in or around Gotham. It was a standard ticket. American Airlines. The date and time of departure: Wednesday, June 17th, at midnight. The most surprising part of it was that he booked her a first-class seat.
"So sweet," smiled Marinette, "But you didn't have to."
There was one glaring problem in her going to Gotham for a week - Hawkmoth. But his attacks happened so infrequently, practically once a month at that point, that Marinette didn't think it should be her biggest concern. A quick internet search revealed that in the worst-case scenario, a nonstop flight from Gotham to Paris was seven hours. While Hawkmoth could certainly do damage in those seven hours, the miraculous cure would reverse all of the damage. Marinette knew it was slightly irresponsible of her, to put her Soulmate responsibilities over her Ladybug responsibilities, but she pushed the thoughts out of her mind. For once, she was going to make a selfish choice. Without even alerting Tikki of the situation, Marinette snagged a piece of notebook paper off of her desk and penned a note to her Soulmate.
To start, I would love to be your date to your brother's wedding. It might take a little bit of convincing to get Maman and Papa on board but I'm pretty sure I can get them to agree. I am sixteen now, after all. Also, you didn't have to spend so much money on the plane ticket. You're already letting me stay with you at your house. I would have been fine flying coach.
I’m glad you liked my birthday present. Hopefully, my next gift to you will be given in person. I’ll be counting down the days until I arrive in Gotham. ~~Marinette~~
Marinette sent the note off, going to bed before waiting for a reply. After all, she would need to be well-rested for a long day of convincing her parents to let her travel to Gotham alone.
——————————————————————
“No way. Gotham is one of the most dangerous cities in America. I’m not letting you travel there alone.”
"But Papa-"
"No."
Marinette frowned. Breakfast had gone a lot worse than she had expected. While she knew her Dad would put up a fuss, she hadn't anticipated him being so dead set against her going. It was Marinette own fault, for not preparing for the argument with her Dad, for trying to pass the trip off as "no big deal", for not doing her research on the crime rates in Gotham (apparently they were exceptionally high, nearly twice as dangerous as Paris). Marinette thought that the discussion would be fairly simple, but her Dad wouldn't budge.
"Tom, she has to meet Damian at some point. This is a good opportunity for her to get to know him and his family." Marinette's Mom was tentatively on her side, but Marinette could tell that even she wasn't fully on board with the plan.
I won't have Marinette traveling halfway across the world, unaccompanied, just to meet her Soulmate."
"What if I wasn't unaccompanied?" asked Marinette.
"It would be too difficult for us to take a week off from the bakery, you know that, Marinette," said Mom. "There's just no way that this trip of yours will work. I'm sorry, Sweetheart."
Marinette sighed, her shoulders slumping. "Fine," she whispered. Abandoning her half-finished breakfast muffin, Marinette grabbed her backpack and left the kitchen. "I'm off to school. Not sure whether or not I'll be home for lunch."
Marinette spent the walk to school holding back angry tears. Her parents promised her that she could meet her Soulmate when she turned sixteen. Yet now that she had the opportunity, they were opposed to it just because they didn't like the city he lived it. (In the back of her mind, Marinette knew that they were just looking out for her, but at that moment, missing the wedding felt like the end of the world).
"What's got you in such a bad mood?" asked Chloé as soon as Marinette sat down next to her.
The entire group of friends all had independent study together first thing in the morning, so all eyes were on Marinette when she pulled the envelope out of her backpack. Spilling the documents inside across the table, Marinette said, "Damian invited me to his brother's wedding, which would be wonderful, except my parents won't let me go because it's in Gotham."
"Gotham as in Batman and Robin?" asked Kim.
"Yep. Apparently, the crime rates are really bad, and my parents think it's too dangerous for me to go there alone."
Chloé picked up the invitation, furrowing her brow as she read it. "This is going to seem crazy, but look at this." Chloé grabbed a book out of her backpack, the copy of Pride and Prejudice that she had gotten so long ago, and opened up the front cover. Tucked inside was the same wedding invitation that Marinette had. "Yesterday, my Soulmate invited me to his brother's wedding as his plus one."
Marinette's eyes widened. "You mean-"
"Damian and J.T. are brothers."
Nino cleared his throat. "I got this from Jon this morning." He held the same invitation in his hands. "Jon says that his family is really close to the family of the groom, and Jon's brother is dating one of the groom's brothers."
"Just how many brothers are there in this family," Alix exclaimed.
"I suppose Damian has at least three," said Marinette. "He talked about his brother's a lot, but I never really connected the dots that there were three of them."
"Wait a minute," said Chloé. "If Nino and I go with you, you won't be going unaccompanied."
"We should all go," Nino suggested.
Kim shook his head. "Alix and I are spending all of June in Japan with Kagami, remember."
"Maybe next summer then," Chloé decided. "We should all take one big vacation somewhere next summer. Maybe a cruise."
While Chloé was brainstorming vacation ideas, Adrien had pulled out his phone to check his calendar. "Damn," he swore. "I have Fashion Week in New York City from the fourteenth to the twentieth. There's no way my Father would let me miss that."
"Maybe you could come afterward," suggested Marinette. "Gotham is only a two-hour drive from New York City. You could be in Gotham on the twenty-first, and you'll still get to spend time with us."
Adrien nodded. "I think that might work. Father would make me bring a bodyguard, though."
"Even better. There's no way my parents could complain about me being unaccompanied if I had a trained bodyguard with me for nearly all of the week."
"Then it's a plan," Chloé sounded excited.
"I can't wait," said Marinette, her mind already starting to daydream about her future trip to Gotham, to see Damian in person for the first time.
——————————————————————
Good news, Damian. I got my parents to agree to let me travel to Gotham. It's a bit of a long story, and I think I might wait to tell you about it until I can tell you in person. Also, you'll have to send me the dress code so I can start making my dress.
I'd like to stay in Gotham until the 27th if you're able to have me for that long. I'll leave early that morning, so I'll have a day to adjust to the jetlag.
There are 89 days left until I get on the plane to Gotham, which means that there are approximately 2136 hours until I meet you face to face. I might die from the wait, but I know that it will be worth it when I get to see your pretty face. ~~Marinette~~
Marinette felt her guilt grow every day that she didn't tell Tikki about the wedding. Marinette didn't like keeping secrets from Tikki, but she also knew what Tikki was like when she was disappointed, and it made her cringe away from the idea of telling her. But enough was enough, and a week after Marinette agreed to go, she brought it up to Tikki.
"Hey Tikki?"
"Yes, Marinette."
"How bad do you think it would be if Chat and I took a vacation in June."
Tikki narrowed her eyes in thought. "A train from London to Paris can make the journey in just under two hours. It's not ideal, but a vacation would be doable."
"I wasn't exactly thinking of England."
"Germany then? Spain? Switzerland? They're all a little further away, but another hour isn't the end of the world."
"I was thinking..." Marinette hesitated. "I was thinking Gotham. To meet Damian."
"No way."
"But Tikki, you don't understand."
"A flight from America to Paris would take far too long in an emergency."
"It's seven hours. You said another hour isn't the end of the world. What's another three or four?"
"Ladybug is not a hobby, Marinette. It's a full-time responsibility. You know that."
Marinette felt like her arguments were going nowhere. "Tikki, listen to me. Hawkmoth's attacks have been more and more infrequent lately. It's over halfway through March now, and we've only had four so far this year. All four were very weak akumas. Chat and I defeated them all in less than twenty minutes. Hawkmoth, for whatever reason, isn't attacking with the same level of danger as before."
"Hawkmoth is still a threat."
"I understand that, but a flight from Gotham to Paris is seven hours. While the akumas would cause damage during those seven hours-"
"-and that damage to Paris would damage the reputations of Ladybug and Chat Noir. The citizens of Paris will spend seven hours believing that they've been abandoned by Ladybug and Chat Noir."
"We can fix any physical damage. As for damage to our reputations, it wouldn't be that hard to record a message telling everyone to remain calm and wait for us to show up. It wouldn't be great for our reputations, that's true, but I’ve given the last three years of my life to Ladybug. I deserve to be Marinette for a little bit.”
“I- I- Fine,” Tikki sighed. “You and Chat do deserve a break. I’m sorry for being so unreasonable.”
“It’s not your fault. You’re just looking out for Paris, in case I get a little too wrapped up in my own life. We balance each other out.”
Tikki nodded, her smile returning. “Life is better with a little bit of balance.”

Midnight Softness | Han Seungwoo
Request:
hi can i request a one shot fluff where you just want to cuddle with seungwoo at home?
↬ Pairing: Seungwoo x Reader
↬ Genre: Fluff
↬ Warnings: too much softness
↬ Word Count: 1.5k
Tumblr media
“I just miss you a little...” You were sitting on your sofa, knees against your chest, skipping channels with one hand whilst the other held your phone.
“I miss you too. What are you doing now?” Your boyfriend’s voice made you feel a little better, getting to hear him was better than nothing.
“I’m searching for a movie or something like that. Wouldn’t it be nice if you came? We could watch a horror film.” You remembered how the members in Victon said that Seungwoo enjoyed going to the cinema on his own, but when it came to you, he really just wanted to do every single thing with you by his side.
“A good one or a bad one?”
“They are all pretty good at being bad.”
His laugh on the other side of the line made you smile. You missed him so much... The schedules were killing him (and you) but he was working so hard and all that hard work was showing up. He was finally getting the recognition he always deserved and you were extremely happy for him, even if it meant that you two didn’t get to see each other often. Still, he made sure to talk to you every single day, no matter how busy he was. You kept talking with him for a while, until you noticed his voice was a little bit off.
“Are you feeling fine?”
“Huh? Yeah, why you ask?” His almost immediate reply made you suspect.
“Your voice sounds breathy... Were you exercising or something while we talked? You should get some rest.”
“Ah, I’m fine really, nothing like that...” Yet his breathing still sounded quite irregular, until you heard a car honking through the phone.
“Are you on the streets? You silly, shouldn’t be on the phone! What if something happens to you?” You were referring mostly to getting robbed or stalked by fans.
“I can take care of myself, you know? I’m a big guy.”
“Yeah, sure.” He liked giving weak and soft vibes, even if he had the body of a Greek god. Well, you couldn’t deny he was indeed the softest boy you had ever met, but maybe that was a little biased statement.
“I have to hang up now, but I will talk to you soon, yes?”
“Mhmm, take care, yes? I love you.”
“I love you too, baby.”
Silence surrounded you again. You pulled on the sleeves of the hoodie you had on, Seungwoo’s cologne still on the fabric. Turning up the volume of the movie that was playing, you started to pay attention to the plot, which made you feel even worse. It was all about a long distance relationship and how it slowly faded away, the feelings disappearing although they still cared deeply for each other. What kind of bullshit was this? Did Netflix really recommend this to you, right now? The disrespect.
You got up and started making some popcorn, the popping sound distracting your mind for a bit, your chin being held by your hand. Maybe some music would lift you up... You played the song that never failed to lift you up, and after the first chorus you were already tapping your fingers to the rhythm and slightly dancing around. There was no use in being sad and feeling down, right? Seungwoo was doing his best so you should too and support him. After one spin, you thought your heart was going to come off of your chest. At the second spin, your eyes got teary. And in the third one, strong arms held you close.
“W-What are you... How...”
Seungwoo shook a set of keys in his hands, the one you had given him a few months ago. It was the first time he used them to surprise you like this. Throwing your arms on his shoulders, you giggled and pecked his lips, his ears turning slightly red at the unexpected motion. A weird smell filled the air, making you remember about the popcorn, letting off of him to go and turn off the stove.
“You should buy the microwave one.” He hugged you from behind, laughing at the few burnt ones.
“These ones are more entertaining, besides this wouldn’t have happened if my boyfriend hadn’t materialized from the air.”
“Oh, yeah? Well your boyfriend missed you too much so asked permission, got denied and snuck off anyway.” Your eyes opened wide.
“What do you mean?! They are going to kill you!” He laughed again, this time holding your face between his hands.
“I asked Seungyoun to cover up for me, he is quite smart and creative, I’m sure he can hold them for a few hours.” His fingers poked your cheeks and tried to make your frown disappear, which seemed to work.
“Jeez... You should be more careful, you dummy.”
Now his lips kissed yours, a huge smile spreading on his face as he grabbed the bowl behind you and went to take a seat on the sofa, patting his thighs as if he had been waiting a long time to make that one action. You shook your head but still walked up to him, cuddling up on his lap as his big frame took over you.
You two searched for a movie and decided on one pretty fast, but to be honest, you didn’t watch two minutes of it. All you could do was admire him and his pretty features. His sharp jawline, his wide mouth, the way his glasses looked when slowly sliding down his nose and the way it scrunched whenever he tasted the taste of the burnt bits of popcorn, his bangs barely covering his eyebrows and forehead, the lightly smudged eyeliner on the corner of his big eyes, the way his dark eyebrows raised whenever one of the scenes turned into a plot twist, his sweet stare when he noticed you weren’t watching the screen at all, his fingers feeding you the pieces of popcorn that weren’t burnt. He was so pretty, and it felt unreal to have them right there with you, smiling in that unique way he did, his laugh vibrating against his chest, the slight squeaking sound making you giggle as well.
“Is there anything on my face?” He mocked you, tongue out as he let out the bowl aside to hold you.
“I love you so, so much.” Your declaration took him by surprise, a dumbfounded expression making its way on his face and his shoulders hitching up in the cutest embarrassment ever.
“I love you too, y/n. So, so, so much.” His touch felt tender as he played with the hem of his hoodie, another smile spreading on his face when he noticed that you wore his clothes when he wasn’t around. He buried his head in the crook of your neck, inhaling your scent and leaving a soft kiss there, only to go back to stare at you again. “I missed you a lot, and I know I said it before but I will repeat it a thousand times more so get used to it.”
“I will never get tired of listening to you~” The way cooed made him feel all fuzzy inside, pinching your cheeks and tickling you, all at the same time. You were so cute in his eyes and sometimes he felt like squeezing you until you exploded in a million of confetti. Healthily, of course.
“What do you want to do now?” His soft voice sending warmth all over your body.
“Being like this with you...” Your fingers played with his hair, parting it gently so you could place a gentle kiss on his forehead. “This is all I want and all I need.”
“You are so cheesy.” You scoffed at him, flicking his forehead and running away, knowing he would catch you after a few steps anyway, a loud squeak leaving your lips as he lifted you up in the air making you spin around a few times before putting you down.
“You are cheesier... Trying to pull a Romeo by coming here.” Seungwoo made a fake hurt expression and let his weight fall on you, using it as an excuse to hold you closer.
“I liked seeing you dance before, but would you dance with me tonight?”
There was no need to reply anything, you simply started swaying with him softly, the music from the ending credits fitting perfectly with the whole situation and making you feel the star of movie where everything worked out, dancing at midnight with the man you loved as if nothing else mattered, and honestly? There was nothing else that you considered more beautifully soft than the moment you two were sharing right now.
Tumblr media
I am not crying. Also, Seungyoun fucked up and Seungwoo had to run all the way back to the agency where his ass got beaten. He liked it tho. He is planning bringing it up to you some day.

Country Roads, Take Me Home: Chap. 3
Fandom: NCIS LA
Characters: Marty Deeks, Kensi Blye
Read Chapters 1-2 Here
                              XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Not only was there no sex, there was also no sleep. Patrick Dempsey and his friends kept up their ruckus on and off all night long so that Kensi and Deeks both got up in the morning groggy and disgruntled.
Bill and Carol, on the other hand, had apparently enjoyed a perfect night’s sleep because they emerged from their RV with their perpetually cheery smiles and the entire pack of dogs leashed and ready for a hike. “Well good morning lovebirds!” Carol said. “You two don’t look like you got much sleep.” She sent them a suggestive wink.
“It was a little noisy,” Deeks said, rubbing his eyes as he looked at her over his coffee mug.
“Uh oh, did our boys keep you up?” Bill asked with a chuckle. “Sorry about that. They’re all night owls. Carol and I just sleep through it anymore.”
“Yeah well maybe try giving them a melatonin or an Advil PM or something,” Deeks grumbled.
“What are you two up to today?” Carol asked.
“We’re not sure yet,” Kensi said. Her mug was tipping precariously in her hand, coffee threatening to spill over the lip to the ground below.
“Well don’t waste all your time sitting here! Get on out there and enjoy the scenery!” Bill said.
“Have a good day!” Carol gave a little wave as they started their walk, dogs trailing along beside them.
“I hate them,” Deeks growled.
“Me too,” Kensi echoed, staring sleepy daggers at their backs.
It took an hour and a lot of coffee, but both of them finally woke up enough to decide on a hike up the Yosemite Falls trail. Deeks claimed he was feeling landlocked and thought maybe a view of some water would help. “Maybe you should have thought of that before you decided on a road trip to decidedly landlocked states,” Kensi said as they pulled on hiking boots.
“I planned this trip for you, not me! If it were up to me we’d be in Bora Bora right now!”
As far as hikes went it was only moderately strenuous, especially for people who had spent the last three vacations chasing or running from bad guys through a variety of difficult terrains. And the payoff was huge. “Wow,” Deeks said when the falls finally came into view. “All right that’s pretty incredible.”
“Yeah it is,” Kensi said, taking his hand. “Come on, let’s get closer.”
It was early enough in the day that there were only a few groups of people taking in the sights, which meant Kensi and Deeks had a very clear view of the scenery without a lot of selfie sticks and noisy tourists around. The wind changed as they got closer and began blowing spray on them. “Here,” Kensi pulled out her phone. “Let’s take a picture to send to the guys to prove we can go on vacation successfully.”
She wrapped an arm around his shoulders and they smiled brightly while she snapped a few pictures. “One more,” she said, kissing him on the cheek while she snapped away. “That one’s just for me.”
Deeks grinned. “And this one’s just for me.” He kissed her on the lips, lifting her up a bit so her feet left the ground. “Happy we came?”
She nodded, pressing her forehead against his. “For sure.”
They considered pressing on to either Yosemite Peak or Eagle Point, but Kensi was hungry for something other than trail mix so instead they headed back down the mountain intent on an early dinner and maybe a nap to make up for last night’s lost sleep.
“What is that noise?” Kensi asked as they walked back into the campground.
“Sounds like a baseball game,” Deeks said. “Like a full on, major league baseball game.”
“Where is it coming from?”
“Somewhere far away from us I hope.”
It was not coming from far away. It was coming from directly next to their RV where Bill and Carol had somehow managed to hook up a large, flatscreen TV outside their own camper and were watching a baseball so game so loudly it was almost like being there in person.
“Well hey neighbors how was your hike?” Bill asked, muting the sound.
“It was uh, it was good,” Deeks said, eying the television. “What do you have going on here?”
“Oh you know, I can’t be without the game when we’re on the little road trips we take. Go Brewers!”
“Is that Kensi and Marty?” Carol poked her head out. “Oh perfect timing! I was just putting together some of my world famous chocolate chip banana bread. Kensi, come on in and help me.”
“Oh, no that’s okay,” Kensi said, but Carol grabbed her arm and pulled her inside while Kensi shot a desperate look at Deeks over her shoulder.
“Don’t worry babe, I’ll just go make dinner,” Deeks called.
“Oh no, don’t go yet! Come on, have a seat!” Bill patted the camp chair next to him. “You follow baseball son?”
Deeks reluctantly sank into a faded, green camp chair. “Uh, no, no I don’t really,” Deeks said. “Not really a sports guy.”
Bill grunted. “Yeah ‘spose I could have guessed that from the hair.”
Deeks self-consciously touched his curls. “I mean, I get the general idea. Ball. Bat. Bases.”
“Well good. It is America’s pastime after all. Oh, Brewers are back up.”
Bill turned the volume back on and Deeks had to resist the urge to cover his ears as the announcer’s voice blasted through the screen.
Meanwhile inside the camper Kensi was sweating it out with Carol in the tiny kitchen. “Carol, I have to tell you baking’s not really my thing,” Kensi said nervously as she was handed a mixing bowl and spoons.
“Nonsense! Banana bread’s so easy a baby could do it,” Carol said, measuring out some sugar. “Here. You measure out the flour while I get going on these bananas.”
Kensi nervously dumped some flour into the cup. Carol turned around to take it from her and her eyes grew wide. “Oh my. You weren’t kidding about your kitchen skills were you?”
“Yeah De—Marty is more of the chef in our house,” Kensi said as Carol leveled the flour off and added it to her mixture.
“You two are so…non-traditional,” Carol said brightly. “You’d never know from looking at you that your skillset tended more toward the masculine.”
“Well I’m not sure—“ Kensi’s words were drowned out by the sound of the mixer.
“Hand me those eggs would you dear?” Carol yelled.
Kensi handed them over. “So how did you and Martin meet?” Carol asked loudly as she deftly cracked the eggs into the bowl.
Kensi’s danger radar flared up. She and Deeks hadn’t discussed a cover story because they hadn’t anticipated running into anyone on this trip. If she picked one story to tell Carol and Deeks picked another, they were going to be in trouble. Poughkeepsie Ping Pong? America’s Next Top Hang Glider? Dr. Who, Medicine Woman?
“Tennis,” Kensi finally said. “Deeks is an avid tennis player and ended up with some shoulder problems. I was his massage therapist.”
“Well if that isn’t a love story for the books,” Carol said delightedly as she added chocolate chips to the batter. “My Bill and I were high school sweethearts. Took one look at him in his football uniform and that was that.”
“Oh, that’s nice,” Kensi said.
“We’ve taken a little trip every summer since,” Carol said, batter going into pans. “It’s good for couples to keep things fresh. Most important thing in a marriage.”
“I’ll keep that in mind.”
“Second most important thing is making sure you please your man. Don’t want him to stray to greener pastures. Not that you have to worry about that yet. You’re young! But your looks will only last for so long. That’s when you have to start getting creative in the bedroom.”
Kensi’s alarm bells ratcheted up several notches. She had to get out of here. Now. “Oh, wow, is that the time?” She pretended to check her phone. “Yikes, so sorry Carol but Marty and I have got to go. Gotta catch the sunset and all that.”
“Oh but you didn’t get to try any banana bread,” Carol said, disappointment clouding her face.
“Rain check,” Kensi told her. “Thanks so much for the offer!”
She burst out of the trailer doors and grabbed Deeks’s arm, yanking him out of the chair. “Ow, hey, what—“
“Babe we’ve got to go now if we’re going to see the sunset, remember?” she said loudly, over the roar of the game.
“Oh right, yeah. Thanks Bill!”
“Anytime!” Bill gave a wave, eyes still glued to the screen as he raised a beer to his lips.
“Kensi, ow, hey loosen the grip, loosen the grip, where are we going?” Deeks asked as she dragged him down the road.
“Anywhere. Anywhere that’s not here,” she said, wrenching his arm as she took a sharp left turn.
“Okay, OW! Hey!” He stopped and pulled his arm away from her. “Easy on the merchandise! You want to tell me what the heck happened in there that has us fleeing on foot?”
“Why does everyone always think we need help with our sex lives?” Kensi cried.
Deeks spluttered, eyes wide. “Uh…what?”
“Carol is in there baking up banana bread and telling me how I need to make sure I ‘please’ you so you don’t go for some sort of young, hot, short skirt wearing, Suzy homemaker!”
“Suzy—what?”
“Deeks,” she looked him in the eye. “Be honest with me. Our sex is good right?”
There was only one right answer and fortunately it also happened to be the truth. “Yes! Yes, Kens, of course it’s good. It’s great! It’s…fantastic.”
“But is it creative?”
“Creative how? Like sometimes we stay up and do it after midnight or like kinky Nell and Eric dressing like elves kind of stuff?”
“I don’t know! I didn’t let her get that far.” Kensi’s eyes widened. “Maybe I should have let her.”
“Babe I really don’t think you need sex advice from Carol. In fact, I really don’t want you to take sex advice from Carol.”
But Kensi had clearly stopped listening. Determination stole over her face and she grabbed Deeks’ hand. “Come on.”
“Where are we going now?”
“To get creative.”
“What about the sunset?”
She raised her eyebrows. “Who says we can’t do both?”
Deeks’ jaw went slack. “Uh…”
Kensi’s creativity included a blanket, a secluded spot, and indeed, a pretty spectacular view of the sunset. “Well,” Deeks said breathlessly, as Kensi ran a hand across his chest. “That wasn’t just creative, that was full on art.”
“Take that Carol,” Kensi said smugly.
Deeks winced. “Yeah, babe, as great as this has been I don’t really want to be thinking about Carol and Bill while we’re making sweet, sweet love.”
“Sorry. You’re right.”
She rolled on top of him, intent on starting round two. “Hey, speaking of Bill and Carol though…”
Kensi stopped kissing him and sat up. “I thought you didn’t want to talk about them.”
“Well you brought them up! I was in their RV yesterday and I didn’t see that giant TV in there.”
“You were distracted by the dogs, right? Maybe you just didn’t see it.”
“It’s a pretty big TV and that’s a pretty small RV. I feel like I would have noticed.”
“Right. So you’re suggesting that Bill and Carol, mom and pop midwestern, baseball watching, banana bread baking, Bill and Carol what? Stole it?”
Deeks shrugged. “Call it detective’s intuition.”
She sent him a bemused look. “If you really had detective’s intuition you would know what I’m thinking about right now.”
With a quick move Deeks flipped them so that she was on her back, a grin on his face. “Is it something like this?”
What he did next made Kensi gasp. “That’s a good start,” she managed.
There was no more talk of Bill and Carol after that.

Sealed with a Kiss
TITLE: Sealed with a Kiss CHAPTER NO./ONE SHOT: Oneshot AUTHOR: malignedangel/angelofbenignmalevolence PROMPT:  Gordon/Lady Penelope – Pirate/Mermaid AU prompt submitted by @darkestwolfx for International Rescue & Relief which is being overseen by @gumnut-logic. Also @agentfreelancer1 might enjoy this as well :D
RATING: T
WORD COUNT: 3,573 words Story Notes: This is my first foray into writing fanfiction in awhile so I may be a little rusty. I have used this prompt as a springboard, but I have taken the term “merperson” and applied it quite loosely. And since there was little consensus on the exact terms of the selkie mythology in my research, I have been a little creative with the application of that as well. This is my first foray into writing TAG fanfiction and I’m not entirely sure I didn’t bite off more than I could chew starting with Gordon and Penelope lol. Hopefully this still makes you smile! It turned out a little longer than I expected, so I do apologize for that as well!

“Hey Gordon, you coming?”
Gordon stood atop a juncture of three rocks near the ocean shore, his hand on his sandy hair as he pursed his lips in thought. He could have sworn he left it here. He looked over to where the eldest of his brothers stood at the shoreline holding his sleek black coat in his hand. Gordon smiled at him. There was no need to worry him just yet.
“Nah,” Gordon said flippantly. “I’m just going to hang around on the shore for a while. I’ve got a few hours left before I need to be home yet.” Scott’s brow furrowed in the way that it always did when he worried. “Just go. I can handle walking around on the shore by myself. I’m a big boy.” Scott looked at the sun hanging low in the sky. Scott sighed but relented.
“Alright Gordon,” he said. “But you need to be off shore by 10, no excuses, alright?” he said. Gordon waved him off.
“Yeah, yeah, no worries!” Gordon said. “Now stop being a worrywart and go enjoy yourself. You’ve got six hours left in your day of freedom. Don’t spend them worrying about me.” He made a shooing motion which smoothed the frown away from his brother’s features.
“10 o’clock, Gordon,” he said. He fluffed out the coat in his arms and pulled it over himself, stepping into the surf. Gordon watched as the coat enfolded his brother’s form, morphing it into his sleek seal shape. Scott moved a bit more into the surf before looking back at his brother one more time. Gordon laughed and made a shooing motion. Scott dove into the waves and Gordon waited until he was sure his brother had swum off before he let out a deep sigh. Six hours until midnight meant that he had four to find his coat before Scott would go into smother-brother mode.
He began to circle the rocks that he had been standing on, looking for where he had stashed his own seal coat, scratching his head as his search yielded nothing. He frowned. He had buried his coat near the rocks for the express point and purpose of not losing the thing and the strategy had worked literally every other time he had come on shore. He scanned the shoreline. Maybe he had buried it under a different set of rocks? But no…there was the rickety staircase that had been abandoned for years. It had to be here.
He began to widen his circle, his toes digging into the sand in the hopes that he would feel the sleek fur against his toes. The wider his circle got, the more worried he became. What if he couldn’t find it? Worse, what if someone had taken it? By selkie law he’d be bound to that person until he could gain his coat back. His brothers had warned him about it and scolded him when he had been too careless with his seal coat. Scott had always had to be so incredibly careful and for once, just once as his worry mounted, he wished he had been as careful as his brother.
He moved around another large rock outcropping and stopped dead in his tracks. Sitting on the beach was a woman, a human woman. He couldn’t help but notice that she was stunning in the light of the setting sun. The other thing he couldn’t help but notice was that she sat with her arms cradling a seal coat.
His seal coat.
Gordon ducked back behind the rocks for a moment to consider his next strategy. He supposed that it would be too much to ask the universe for the young woman to not know the significance of the coat she held in her arms. He let out a breath. Well, he had really put his foot in it this time. He was not ready to give up the sea or the freedom that it offered him, unlike Virgil who had given up his seal coat to a human woman that he had fallen in love with or John who had given his coat to an old sea dog that had promised to teach him the stars and return the coat when John wanted to return to the sea. The sea was everything to him. Perhaps if he appealed to her emotions…
“You know, I saw you earlier. Hiding behind that rock doesn’t make you any less obvious.”  The voice was full of good breeding and sophistication. He came around the rocks again with an embarrassed laugh, running his hands through his sandy hair once more.
“Yeah, sorry about that…I didn’t mean to disturb you. I was looking for something,” Gordon said. “Actually, I found it, too.” The young woman raised an eyebrow expectantly. Gordon cleared his throat. “The seal coat…it’s…mine.” He hesitated as he answered, wondering if perhaps this was the wrong way of gaining back his seal coat. The young woman frowned and tightened her arms around the coat.
“I’ve heard lots of stories of men who comb the beach looking for seal coats to bring home an unwitting bride,” she said. Gordon laughed, despite the seriousness of the situation on his part.
“Yeah, believe me, my brother Alan had a pretty close call with that,” he said. The young woman frowned.
“Forcing young women into marriages isn’t funny,” she said, as if she knew from experience. “And I’m going to make sure that this seal coat goes back to the young woman it belongs to.” Gordon’s eyes widened as he realized they were talking about Gordon being the one looking for a bride. He threw back his head and laughed.
“Oh no,” he said as his fit of giggles died down. “You misunderstand me. I’m a selkie. My brother too obviously. All of them. I have several.” He felt the words tumbling out in an awkward rush. Even angry, the woman was very pretty, and he couldn’t help his laughter at the ridiculousness of the whole situation. “Let me start over. My name is Gordon and the seal coat you are holding is mine. As in, I use it to take my seal form.” The young woman frowned in thought as she considered him before loosening her grip on the seal coat, her anger dissipating quickly into something more melancholy.
“Well…this is an unexpected turn of events,” she said. Gordon placed his hands on his hips with a slight smile on his face.
“Don’t sound so disappointed,” he said, hoping to lighten her mood. She shook her head and set the seal coat aside, as if she no longer wanted anything to do with it.
“I’m sorry if I sound disappointed,” she said, her sincerity obvious. “I had been hoping that the coat belonged to a seal maiden. I was protecting it so she wouldn’t be forced into marriage with a human if that wasn’t what she wanted. I never intended to keep the coat for myself. I was just…looking for a friend, I suppose.” Gordon frowned slightly and approached, sitting down on the other side of the coat as Penelope adjusted her skirts.
“Well, just because I’m not a seal girl doesn’t mean we still can’t be friends,” he said. She looked over at him.
“No,” she said after several moments where she looked at him, as if trying to figure out his angle. “I suppose it doesn’t.” Gordon smiled.
“Though, you do have me at a slight disadvantage. I’ll have to start calling you the shore maiden if you don’t give me your name,” he said with a wink. The corner of her lips quirked in a smile.
“I’ve been called worse,” she said. “But my name is Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward.” Gordon smiled and reached for the hand nearest him, bringing the back of it to his lips.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Lady Penelope,” he said. Penelope took back her hand and brushed some hair away from her face.
“I have to admit,” she said. “It’s the first time I’ve ever met a selkie in person,” she said. Gordon leaned back on his hands, looking up at the sky above the waves.
“Yeah,” he said. “That doesn’t surprise me. We tend to keep mostly to ourselves. Partially because of the coat thing but also because most humans forget us pretty quickly.” Penelope turned to look at him, intrigued.
“Seems like someone like you would be pretty hard to forget,” she said. Gordon laughed.
“I’ll take that as a compliment, as I’m sure you meant it,” he said, enjoying the blush that rose to her cheeks and thinking that it only made her look prettier. “But yeah…we can’t come on shore very often. It’s part of the whole merfolk life thing.” Penelope frowned.
“That sounds lonely,” she said. Gordon shrugged.
“I mean…it could be worse. I could be one of the finfolk and that would mean I couldn’t come on land at all. That…might suck a little more.” Penelope laughed.
“I can see where that might be a bit more inconvenient for forming friendships,” she said. He nodded.
“Yeah. Besides, seal guys are much cooler than mermen,” he said with a wink, earning another laugh from her. He smiled and let the moment settle before he cleared his throat. “So tell me a little more about yourself.”
“I’m the daughter of Lord Creighton-Ward. And I’m expected to marry well,” she said. Gordon made a face.
“Sounds like an exciting future ahead.” The lack of enthusiasm in his voice was nearly palpable. “If it’s wrong to make a seal girl marry if she’s not in love, it seems to me that a human girl should be given the same…I don’t know…courtesy?”
“One would think,” she said, sliding her feet out of her shoes and letting her toes dip into the sand. Gordon could see the distance in her eyes as she thought ahead to an uncertain future. He knew he had to do something to bring her back from wherever it was she was going in her mind, especially if it had the power to erase the smile from her features.
“What would you want for your future if it was in your hands?” he asked, hoping the suddenness and the personal nature of the question would shock her back to reality. He knew his plan worked when Penelope looked at him, an amused smile lighting up her features.
“You don’t waste any time getting to the point, hmm?” she asked. Gordon shrugged, inwardly celebrating his personal win.
“There’s too little time to waste on small talk, what with the whole ‘can only go on shore so often’ thing,” he said with a grin. “So come on, tell your new friend what you want for your future. I may not be a magic fish, but I know a guy.” He winked at her, causing her to shake her head and look out at the water.
“Hmm…if I could have anything I wanted for my life? I’d like to do something to help those in need. The voices of those less fortunate than I are not often heard. I’d like to be in a position where I would be free to use my voice to help make things better, perhaps be able to actively make the world a better place.” Gordon looked at her. He probably couldn’t say what answer he expected to hear from her if he had been asked, but whatever it was he had expected, it wasn’t that answer. His smile softened into one of admiration. She was such a purely good person. He would consider himself honored to count her among his friends.
“So what’s stopping you?” he asked, breaking the silence that had settled over the both of them with her pronouncement. Penelope shrugged.
“Unfortunately, in this day and age, women’s voices aren’t nearly as loud as men’s voices,” she said. Gordon shrugged.
“So make them listen. If anyone can do it, it’s you. I believe in you. You have the freedom to rewrite your future,” he said. “And I’ll be rooting for you. And if there’s ever anything I can do for you, I’m happy to kelp in any way I can.” He grinned at his own joke and Penelope arched an eyebrow, holding the expression for only a moment before allowing herself to laugh.
“That was a terrible joke, Gordon,” she said. He grinned.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I think that my jokes be the start of a beautiful friendship between the two of us,” he said with a wink.
“I suppose you think they will seal the deal?” she asked, as if resigned that the joke was going to come out one way or the other, and she might as well beat him to the punch. Gordon’s eyes lit up.
“Say, that was pretty quick,” he said. “I think even my brothers might have approved of that. I’m just mad I didn’t get there first.” Penelope smoothed her skirt with a smile.
“Will you tell me about your brothers?” she asked. He nodded and started to regale her with tales of their exploits in the open ocean and some of the more humorous stories. He didn’t notice as the sun set below the horizon and night crept over them, the hour growing later and later.
“And then of course, there’s Alan. He’s the baby of the family. And like I said, he was the one that had a close call with his seal coat. He-” Gordon began, but a grumpy seal cry cut him off, causing both Gordon and Penelope to jump. Perched on a rock was a very annoyed looking black seal. Penelope looked at Gordon.
“One of your brothers, I take it?” Gordon put a hand on the back of his head, his cheeks pinkening. It sure was one of his brothers; a very upset eldest brother who looked like he was about ready to drown Gordon in the surf for forgetting about the time. He waved awkwardly at the seal.
“Oh hey, Scott. That time already?” he asked. The seal vocalized angrily. Gordon laughed and turned back to his new friend. “I suppose this means that my time is up. I’ve got to head back into the water.” He got up and offered a hand to Penelope to help her to her feet. Once both of them were standing, he picked up his seal coat and shook off the sand. “It was a pleasure to meet you, Lady Penelope,” he said. “And I hope to see you again when I come back on shore.” Penelope nodded.
“You’d better. You owe me a story,” she said. She moved closer to him as he batted away the sand from his seal coat. She leaned in to give him a kiss on the cheek before she slid on her shoes and started to head up the beach once more. Gordon placed a hand over his cheek and smiled.
“I do indeed,” he muttered to himself. The moment was interrupted as the seal behind him barked at him and he shook his head.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m coming, Scott. Keep your coat on,” he said, sliding into his seal fur and following his brother back into the surf with one last look up the beach at Penelope’s retreating form.

Gordon lay on one of the rocks that jut from beneath the ocean outside Tracy cove, sunning himself as he watched the sky. His seal coat was tucked safely beneath him. His thoughts strayed back to Penelope and the few hours they had spent together on the beach only a few weeks ago. He doubted he would ever see the feisty blonde again, but he knew that he could never forget her. She had given him his freedom despite obviously wanting to keep him by her side. And he had almost considered staying with her, but the ocean had a siren’s call all its own. No matter how much Penelope had drawn him towards land with her own siren’s call, they had both known that he would never have been able to drown out the call of the sea.
He let out a deep sigh. Man, sometimes the extended time between their visits to shore sucked hardcore. He already had begun to miss the easy companionship with his human friend. He closed his eyes and listened to the sounds of the ocean: the waves lapping against the rocks, the call of the sea birds that flew and dived for their meals, the creaking of a boat as it rocked on the….
Wait a second. Gordon sat bolt upright. Boats never came this close to the cove where he and his brothers had made their home. The sailors that ventured out this far into the ocean called the place Hullshatter Cove for a reason. He looked out over the ocean and sure enough, a boat was making its way in the direction of the cove. He blinked and rubbed his eyes, wondering if he hadn’t gone sea mad, but the boat remained where it was. He got to his feet, gathering up his coat and frowning. He had to keep the boat from coming into the cove somehow.
He pulled his coat over his body, feeling the transformation as he leapt into the water. His seal body cut through the water swiftly and in no time at all, he was at the side of the boat. He wasn’t sure exactly what he was going to do to stop them, but he had to try. He looked up to consider his next move when a lifeboat dropped, the craft hitting the water so close to his head that if his reflex to dive hadn’t been quite so quick, he would have been seeing stars. His head surfaced again as he stared at the small craft. Gordon wasn’t one to look a gift horse, or boat for that matter, in the mouth. He jumped into the lifeboat, letting out a series of barks to warn the sailors of the impending danger.
Underneath him the small boat lurched as it began to be hoisted up on deck. Gordon realized that he may not have thought this plan entirely through, but there was no turning back now. He allowed himself to be hoisted to ship level, where he jumped onto the deck and barked at anyone who came near him, trying desperately to call their attention to the dangers that awaited them as they floated closer to the island.
“Now is that any way to behave?” Gordon froze, his head whipping around. He knew that voice. There stood Penelope. Gone were the skirts and trappings of high society. Instead she wore trousers and a long captain’s coat, and Gordon couldn’t deny that the look somehow suited the young woman more than the skirts ever would. She looked comfortable and happy in a way she hadn’t when last he saw her. “You can close your mouth, Gordon,” she said. He snapped his jaw shut, having been unaware of when it had dropped open. He began to shed his coat, taking human form there on the deck of the ship and looking at her with wide eyes.
“Penelope? But…how…why…?” Gordon wasn’t sure what question he wanted to ask first. Penelope shook her head.
“Why? For you,  of course,” she said. Gordon’s expression went from puzzled to completely bewildered.
“Me?”
“Yes,” she said. “You longed for the freedom of the sea, and I decided that I wanted a taste of that for myself. So I pulled a few strings and got myself a letter of marque to sail the sea. I was hoping I would find you again.” Gordon’s heart melted. She had done all of this…for him?
“Penelope…I…don’t know what to say…” Penelope waved a hand dismissively.
“The only thing that you have to say is that you are going to give me the full story about your brother and his near marriage miss. You said that you couldn’t come on shore again for quite some time and I wasn’t willing to wait that long. So if you couldn’t come on shore, I would come to the sea,” she said. Gordon stood frozen for a moment as he processed her words. Never before in collective selkie memory had a human made the attempt to figure out a loophole  to remain close to a selkie companion on their terms. He laughed, happy tears threatening to make their way to his eyes. He moved forward to her and wrapped her in his arms, planting a gentle kiss on her forehead.
“Thank you, Penelope…thank you so much…this means the world to me…and I promise…I’ll tell you all the stories you want…” he said. She smiled up at him, her arms draping around his waist as well.
“Good,” she said. Neither of them moved for several moments, allowing themselves to just be in each other’s company before she pulled back slightly and smiled up at him, moving her hands to his chest. “Now what say you and I go have a bite to eat and you make good on your promise?” Gordon nodded, willing to follow his feisty little captain anywhere, letting her guide him toward the lower decks. He stooped for only a moment to pick up his seal coat before taking her hand.
“Well you see, Alan’s near brush with marriage all started when…”

"What?" Sky asked, stepping in front of you so you'd look at her. "What did he do?"
"He used my first name. He's never done that before…" You were still frowning, drowning in your thoughts while your stomach seemed to host a rodeo.
"That happens sometimes!" Sky chuckled and pulled you towards the cafeteria. "Professors are also just humans."
"Yeah, you're right." You sighed. "I'm sorry…"
"Oh shush! You've got nothing to be sorry about. I mean you just saved the man's ass!" Sky laughed. "And I'm sure his ass is fine as…"
"Sky!" You protested, looking at her with the certainty that this conversation would be over now.
"Alright alright…" She shrugged. "I just think that the two of you are… kinda cute. I mean for two people as intellectually brilliant as you are, you're also fucking oblivious."
"YOU haven't even had a date, leave alone a crush, in how long?" You shot right back, ignoring her previous comment. "I don't think you're the most knowledgeable person in terms of… that stuff."
"Touche…" She grinned. "Alright, we can change the topic if you want."
"Thank you!" You groaned and together you entered the crowded cafeteria. For the next hour you chatted about everything and nothing, enjoying the (for once quite tasty) lunch. When Sky left for her next class, you yawned and stretched, then headed to your usual spot in the library to get some work done before the night class. For a few hours you kept your nose in the books, until you overheard the conversation of two girls at a table close to yours.
"Have you noticed how he was all happy and enthusiastic today?" One asked, keeping her voice low.
"Yes! Professor Hiddleston used to be like that all the time before the start of this semester. Then he got all gloomy and sad and it didn't suit him at all. He looks so much better when he smiles!" Both girls giggled.
"I bet he would look even better without his glasses, maybe a new haircut and different clothes…"
"Or no clothes at all!" Again, they giggled hysterically. "I'm sure he's absolutely amazing in bed!"
The way they talked about him made your blood boil and when they kept up this gross behavior for another five minutes (increasingly unbearable in the comments' intimacy), you finally had enough.
"If you brainless toads want to keep objectifying innocent staff, please do it elsewhere. Or not at all!" You turned around in an instant and snapped at them.
They frowned at you, making faces. "Are you his mom or something!?"
"No, I'm a respectful human being with a sense of decency!" You replied and glared at them angrily until (finally) they felt awkward enough to leave the library.
"Brainless toads?" You heard a snicker from behind one of the shelves, and a moment later the man the voice belonged to stepped out of the aisle with a huge stack of books in his arms. He had brown curly hair and was just a little shorter than Hiddleston.
"Yeah, not one of my best inventions." You laughed lightly. "Sorry if I was too loud."
"Wasn't really possible to not listen to you. But good to know that at least one person in the building has a… sense of decency, as you put it." He smiled at you until the tower of books in his arms started swaying dangerously.
"Uhm, can I help you with those?" You offered with a chuckle.
"That would be absolutely wonderful, thank you. My office is right around the corner. So if you could just…" He set the tower of books down on your table and picked up the top half (which still looked heavy as heck), leaving the other half for you. Very quickly you stuffed your belongings into your backpack and rose to your feet, picking up the books.
Slowly you waddled after the man, out of the library and down a few hallways, thinking that his definition of 'right around the corner' differed immensely from yours.
Finally he stopped at an office, unlocked the door and walked in. As you followed, you read the name on the door.
"You are Professor Cumberbatch?" You asked once you had set the books down on the only empty surface you could find (being the top of his coffee maker).
He turned around to you with an amused frown. "What's wrong with that?"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound so surprised." You said apologetically. "Nothing wrong with that. I've only ever heard other students talking about you and your classes."
"Then I hope you've only heard good things! Everything else would've been the truth, unfortunately..." He grinned and held out a hand to you. "Who do I have the pleasure with?"
"I'm Y/n L/n. Soon to graduate in cultural studies and literature." You smiled and shook his hand.
"Oh, then you must be one of Tom's students!" He said cheerfully. "I mean Professor Hiddleston, of course…"
You couldn't help but feel amused by him. He was nice and funny, just what you needed after those rude girls.
"Did you comment on the brainless toads because you're friends with Professor Hiddleston?" You asked with a small smirk.
"You caught me." He held his hands up in defeat and laughed. "As a professor I'm in no place to tell them that they're brainless toads, though."
"But you'd want to?"
"Yes! Of course! I hate it when those creepy female students talk about my friend like that." He sighed and sat down behind his desk.
"Very understandable." You said, making your way back to the door.
"Thank you for your help, Miss L/n." He smiled.
"You're very welcome, for both the books and the toads." You chuckled and waved goodbye as you stepped back into the hallway. While you made your way to your class, you couldn't help but feel happy that Hiddleston had such a nice friend. He really deserved it.
During your class, you thought about Sky, who should be having her date soon. Buying her lunch had cost you your last cash, but that was fine as you didn't need any until tomorrow. You'd just head home after class and eat at your apartment and… That's when you remembered. Panic crashed onto you like a wave on the shore, making your heart beat painfully fast and your thoughts race. You couldn't go home tonight, you had promised your roommate to stay gone. And if you were honest with yourself, you were scared of the strange men that would stay at your apartment tonight, of the things they could (and would) do.
"Miss L/n?" Your professor addressed you and you could hear her heels clicking on the ground.
"I'm sorry, I… was distracted for a moment." You apologized, willing your heart to slow down by breathing very deeply and slowly.
The class continued on for another fifteen minutes, but you could only think of your current situation. Maybe you could just stay here on campus, they had bathrooms and heating and you could always study late, then take a nap and study more until the next morning. Yes, that's what you would do, pulling an all-nighter in the library.
When class was over, you collected your assignment sheet from your professor and hurried to get out of the room. If you wanted to do this, you needed to keep busy.
So, like every other week, you finished your assignment shortly before ten at night. But unlike every other week, you didn't hurry to catch your train and instead let out a long breath. All your required work (and also every extra credit that was offered) you had finished and thus you needed something new to do. The library was deserted, you couldn't see a single person around, but occasionally you heard someone coughing far off in the distance. So you walked through the aisles and picked out a book to study with, worked through the interesting sections, put it back and picked out a new book to repeat the process.
However at shortly before midnight, you felt a tap on your shoulder. Letting out a surprised yelp, you turned around to see a man with a broom in front of you.
"Sorry Miss, but we actually have been closed for half an hour already. Did no one ask you to leave?" He asked with a frown.
"No, I didn't know there was a closing time. Sorry." You said as you started to gather your belongings. "I'm still kinda new here."
"Don't worry about it. We open at seven, tomorrow morning. But for now you'll have to leave." He said, probably as friendly as he could.
With an uneasy feeling and the uncertainty of where to head next, you picked up your backpack and made for the exit. Maybe you could lay down in one of the classrooms! With new hope you quickly made your way back to the main building, only to find the doors locked and the lights in the hallways turned off. Only behind very few windows there was still light, but they were too high up. In that moment, standing in the cold night without a jacket (how could anyone be so stupid and forget to wear one!), no way to get home and without a place to go, you wanted nothing more than to cry.
_______________
Tom finished grading the essays from his creative writing class at roughly around midnight. He didn't feel tired and so he had decided to stay at his office, listening to music and getting work done. After the events of the day, he felt like someone had drugged his coffee or maybe he's just had too much of it. First the talk with you before class… he couldn't remember a time when he had felt more relieved. Both, to hear that you and him were on good terms with each other, and then the little arrangement with the notes. The notebook you had given him felt like the most precious treasure, a piece of your brilliant thoughts put into words only for him to delve in. Oh, he couldn't wait to read what you had to say. He hadn't yet had the time, nor the necessary solitude to take a look, but he was planning on doing that tomorrow before the one afternoon class he had (it was the only class for that day and only creative writing, which of course he took seriously, but it meant a lot of sitting and reading and writing).
When he had emailed everyone in that class his feedback for their assignments, it was only fifteen minutes until one o'clock. He should probably head home and get some rest, now that he could actually look forward to every new day, for it meant a new chance to see you. A loud thunder made him jump, but it also motivated him to try to get to his car before the rain would start. So he grabbed his bag, knocking over that darn cup of pens once again. However this time, he decided that he would deal with the pens tomorrow and thus locked his office to leave.
When he reached the building's entrance, he could already hear and see the rain accompanying the storm that was raging outside. "Oh great…" He groaned to himself. At least he had a jacket in his car, that meant he would only have to run one way through the rain. When he unlocked the door and let himself out, the sound of the rain grew substantially louder. Fortunately, the roof above him was wide enough to grant some dry space before the inevitable wetness that awaited him. As he stood there, waiting for the rain to decrease at least a little, he heard a quiet sob just to his right. It was barely even there and mixed with the sound of the rain. He wondered if he had even heard correctly. But when he peaked around the corner of the building, he saw a person sitting on the ground, all curled together into a ball.
For a moment he simply stood there, unsure what to say or do. Maybe he should call the security? Or just leave and forget about it? However he wasn't one to look away when people needed help.
"Are you alright?" He asked quietly, staying at a safe distance for now.
The ball on the ground went very still, then he heard a faint voice. "Please, just go away…"
His heart seemed to freeze over for a second, then it shattered into a million pieces. "...Y/n?" He asked in no more than a whisper.
You lifted your head from your arms and looked at Tom with red eyes. "I'm okay, it's fine, I'm just… waiting."
"You're waiting?" Tom asked incredulously, suppressing the overwhelming urge to hug you and hold you very tightly until you would feel better. "Waiting for what?"
"The library. It should open soon, I'm fine, it's…" You rambled on and quickly rose to your feet, standing an arm's length away from him. You didn't even seem to notice how badly you were shaking, and Tom seriously started to worry his brains out.
"How long have you been sitting here?" He interrupted you, looking at you up and down to check if you're fine otherwise.
"Well, uhm, I was kicked out of the library at midnight and then I walked around to keep warm, but the coffee shop was closed and the only open-all-night place I could find wouldn't let me stay without buying something, so I kinda ended up just sitting here and waiting for the library to open back up at seven." You finished and failed in your attempt to smile. "Really, don't worry about me."
"It's freaking one o'clock at night and you're sitting here without a jacket, without anything… Why on earth aren't you at home?" He asked a little too forcefully, but he just couldn't help himself. His mind was as torn as it could be, between the thing he should do and the thing he wanted to do. It pained him beyond measure to see you standing there, crying and slowly freezing into oblivion.
Yet, the look you gave him made him regret this outburst immediately.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound so harsh." He said and ran a hand through his hair. Honestly, he had no idea what to do.
"It's okay, you don't need to apologise. This is my own fault and my own problem. I wouldn't want to drag you into this, professor…"
"Please stop calling me that." He sighed. "At least for now."
"Sorry…" You looked down at your feet and hugged yourself to keep from shaking.
"Can… can I drive you home?" He tried, taking a step closer to you. You didn't move away, that was a good sign, at least he hadn't completely overstepped his boundaries.
"I can't go home. It's kinda complicated." You sighed. "Just go and let me wait here till morning…"
"No, I won't." That was the first statement he was completely and utterly certain about. "Can't you go to a friend? What about Miss Monroe?"
Again, you shook your head and looked dangerously close to crying once again and honestly, he wanted to cry too. If there is no right thing to do, only many things wrong for different reasons… what is one to do? But he needed to do something now or his heart would burst even more and his mind would forever haunt him with the inevitable 'what if..?'.
"Stay right here, okay?" He simply said, waiting for you to nodd. "I'm going to be right back."
Then he set his bag down again the wall, took a deep breath and raced towards his car through the rain.
He had made his mind up and he knew that it was the right thing to do. The pace of the raindrops hitting him increased and the wind picked up, changing its direction so that it came shooting right at his face. Quickly he got an umbrella and his jacket out of the backseat, then hurried back towards the entrance. You had moved to the front of the building as the rain was now horizontally whipping against the wall where you had previously been standing. As he came closer, he could see that you had even taken his bag with you, which was now securely resting at your side.
He dropped the umbrella once he was back under the roof and took his bag and your backpack from you.
"Here…" He said as gently as he could and placed his winter jacket around your shoulders. "I can't have you freezing to death."
You didn't look at him, but spoke a quiet thank you and pulled the jacket tighter around your frame. That was enough to make Tom smile ever so slightly, at least he could make sure that you would not get any colder.
"I'm sorry for the trouble." You finally said and looked back up at him. "You're once again being very kind and I'm once again only causing problems."
He didn't know how to reply to that. Not because Tom thought that you were causing problems, but because he didn't know how he could convince you that it was his desperate wish to do even more without actually crossing more lines than he already had.
"You're not causing me problems!" He said finally. "I… just don't understand why you can't go home or somewhere safe, at least…"
You smiled at him sadly. "I wouldn't want to bother you with that, professor…"
Oh how he hated that title right now, especially when you said it like that. He wasn't your superior, or even remotely smarter than you… rather on the contrary. But he also had to see the truth, that his means to help you were very limited. Giving you his jacket was just scratching at a line he couldn't dare to cross.
So he didn't inquire any further about your reasons for more or less willingly freezing yourself and instead tried to find a solution for the problem.
"Are you sure you're going to be fine?" He asked, trying to keep his eyes away from yours. He was standing too close to you anyway and if he would only see one more tear, he was sure his barriers would break.
"Yes. I can't thank you enough for letting me borrow your jacket…" You replied sincerely. "I'm gonna be okay out here until the library opens."
He sighed and looked at his phone. 1:30… that was still more than five hours of waiting out in the cold.
If doing the right thing meant letting you stand out here alone, then he just wouldn't be able to do it.
"Come with me." He finally said and picked up his bag, fishing his keys out of a side pocket. He unlocked the door and held it open for you to follow, which to his great surprise you did without hesitation. However he couldn't bring himself to talk much as he lead the way back to his office, now that he had so much to do to make his own mind shut up. This was definitely considered as crossing a line, a glowing, red, bold line.
When he unlocked the door to his office, he remembered the pens on the floor and quickly kicked some of them out of the way as he entered the room.
"You can stay here in my office tonight…" He turned to look at you. "Would that be alright?"
You looked at him with wide eyes, hugging his jacket closer to your body. "That would be absolutely amazing."
Tom was sure that you could hear his erratic heartbeat as he walked past you towards a cupboard in the far right corner of the room. After a quick search through the drawers he finally found what he was looking for: a black fluffy blanket that he always kept in his office for the (unfortunately not so rare) cases when he stayed here instead of heading home. Slowly he walked back towards you, afraid that one step too far would finally make you run. But you stayed standing on the spot, with your eyes fixed on his and he had to remind himself to stay at an acceptable distance. So he held the blanket out to you with a small smile. "Here… Try to warm up, maybe sleep a little. You should be fine on the couch."
Nodding, you took the blanket out of his hand and slowly walked over to the couch. "Thank you. Really, thank you so much." You breathed as you turned around to him again, sitting down on the soft leather.
Tom only nodded, averting his eyes to any place but you. He needed to leave, now, despite everything within him screaming to stay with you. But this was a good point to go, a good place to keep you safe for the night.
"Uhm, Miss L/n…" He started, feeling absolutely awkward.
"I'm wearing your jacket and hugging your blanket, I think you can call me Y/n…" You interrupted him with a nervous laugh that made his heart swell.
"Yeah, uh, if you… if you're good, I'm gonna head home. It's getting quite cold in those wet clothes…" He said as he stood in the middle of the room, crossing his arms in front of his chest. If he was usually a quite confident person, now he was an absolute mess, both on the outside and the inside.
"Oh, of course!" You jumped back to your feet and took off his jacket. With quick steps you walked towards him and hesitated for a moment, before you stood on your tiptoes and placed the jacket around his shoulders with a smile.
Oh why only did you have to do this to him… Tom stared at you in awe for a moment, his lips parted and eyes wide. If it wasn't for the sudden loud rumble of the thunderstorm, he probably would've stared at you until morning. But the thunder made him jump and he took a few steps backwards immediately, knocking off a pile of books in the process.
"Miss L/n… Y/n…" He closed his eyes for a second, taking a deep breath. "I'm afraid my brain doesn't respond that well to a lack of sleep. I'm sorry if my behavior was a bit… peculiar."
He watched you as you sauntered back towards the couch, dropping down with a quiet sigh.
"You have done absolutely nothing wrong, Mr. Hiddleston. All is good as before." You smiled at him encouragingly. "I'm gonna be okay, it's warm and dry and I'm very thankful for that. You should go home…"
He nodded a little too quickly and grabbed the keys out of his pocket, only detaching the ones for his apartment and the entrance door down in the hall so he could get out. Then he placed the rest on the desk. "There you go, now you can lock the door if you want to, or unlocked other rooms or… something. Oh, and you should keep the lights turned off if you don't want the security coming up here at four in the morning."
"Thanks…" You smiled once again. "Goodnight, Professor."
"Goodnight." He replied quietly and turned on his heel, practically running out of the office. On the way to his car, he repeatedly asked himself why it was falling for an angel that would send him right to hell.
