TADC Episode 4 spoilers

Jax's slow depression into a normal person over Episode 4's monotonous existence is not character development, but is a great character insight. And it doesn't even start when he gets beaten down. His first "asshole" action in the episode is in accidentally breaking Gangle's mask. He legitimately doesn't mean it, but that doesn't matter, because he's the "bad guy". So he slips on the mask of an asshole again.

And throughout the episode, with the threat of punishment and the boring mediocrity of the fast food experience, jax genuinely asks pomni how she's doing.

Jax's personality is a foil against Ragatha, she needs people to like her, Jax needs people to hate him. Because if his genuine mistakes make people that upset, maybe they'll be less upset if he was just always that bad.

I think Kaz's reluctance to indulge in comfort, or "experience" his wealth stems from the old regret of Jordie's fine jacket, Kaz's new shoes, the novels from the book store, dinners out, and hot chocolates- when in the following weeks those things could have bought so many loafs of bread and cheap meals. Comforts deprecate in value once they're bought, and what is Kaz willing to trade for less safety? Less power? Less opportunity?

Soap can't whistle. Every thinks he can because he just has one of those faces, right? And the thing is that nobody asks because, well, how often do you really think about a person whistling?

Every other day I think about how quick Nikolai was ready to sacrifice himself in his duology and while I'm sure it also was for the good cause, I think that boy is also tired tired.

We see a few glimpses of the darker parts of him in his books, but I feel like he's more depressed and hopeless sometimes than the books truly point at.

He wears this masquerade of Ravka's hope, but sometimes he can't convince himself to be hopeful.

ETA1: to ME, he has ADHD. and that already increases the risk of depression due to brain chemistry.

He lives in a country that has never seen peace, this impacts everyone.

The way he was treated as a child for things he couldn't really control much since it is part of how his brain works, being criticised all the time surely doesn't make someone happy.

He learns to be highly masking, to such a degree, that it seems that he has no personality of his own, that he lacks self identity to a certain level. And he learns that he can only be loved if he is not himself, but rather who other people want him to be.

Then he wants a safer future for his country, but only being the second son of the king, he can't do much (he finds a solution for that by creating Sturmhond though).

The loss of people he loves leaves it's mark for sure too, and then the demon. The never ending river of new problems, always putting a stop to the little successes they have.

Maybe a handful of crushes, they both probably got asked out once or twice, but they're so much more important to each other than anyone else could ever be. They're each other's everything.

I could see this going either way, because they know each other so well. Mario has more experience comforting Luigi, and Luigi has a better range of emotion than Mario. Does that make sense?

I'm gonna say Luigi's better at comforting Mario. Mario faces the problem head on, where as Luigi knows how to take a moment to be upset, let that feeling out, and calm back down first.
