I'm rereading Trimax and spotted something I missed the first time around.

I've always been a bit confused about why Vash and Knives' hair only started going black when it did when they'd previously used a lot more energy, but rereading Vol6ch4, it's happening because they have already reached their limits of what they can produce. In other words, plants' power is finite, and when Vash and Knives' hair first turns black, it's because that's the moment where they've used up all of their expendable energy. They are effectively going through a slow final run from that point onwards

A plant runs out of energy before going through the their last run.

They have these final reserves which they can draw on in their final run, but I think the implication is that this is the energy that keeps them alive, and so drawing on these last bits of energy - which they can choose to do - kills them.

Knives uses up the last of his main energy in v6c4, but Vash has already used up his by the start of trimax vol 1. Any energy they use after this point is drawing into the energy that keeps them alive, and from how Knives and the dependant plant act when they do this, it seems painful to do and clearly feels different to when they used their main power supply. Based on this it seems unlikely that Vash didn't also notice something was wrong after he used the last of his energy up.

Vash used up the last of his power in the Fifth Moon incident. For the entirety of Trimax, Vash is slowly dying and choosing to kill himself a bit faster every time he uses his powers.

The Plants in TriStamp look so ethereal and beautiful. I just absolutely love their design. THEY NEED MORE APPRECIATION. Also, The Plants in Trigun 98’ and TriMax look like fleshy angelic things and that’s cool, I also very much enjoy that. It goes with the narrative theme and aesthetic very well. HOWEVER, It’s just something about the Plants in TriStamp that scratch my brain very well. I also enjoy the feminine appearance, it makes sense to me; women are creators.

Speaking of plants…

If Vash or Kni(Nai) got high on pot or the Trigun equivalent, could they be, technically, ‘potted’ Plants?

knives is such an interesting character because when you truly look at him, he is one of the most human characters of trigun.

at a young age, he saw something so traumatising that it broke him and made him see every human as an enemy. he's so desperate to stop humans from torturing him and vash, that he ends up torturing humans and vash.

like knives doesn't stop doctor conrad or chapel from experimenting on these children yet he is so terrified of being turned into an experiment like tesla. he becomes the exact thing he hates. hell you could argue that he even experiments on vash at one point (especially in stampede). knives actively alters vash's memories in stampede, while doctor conrad stands to the side measuring his vitals as they both look upon vash as though he was nothing more than a lab experiment.

wolfwood and livio are both the result of lab experiments that knives allowed to happen. how many other children like wolfwood and livio were there that didn't survive these experiments? how many human tesla's were there?

knives is exactly like the humans that tore apart his sister and it's almost funny that the traits that align him most with the very humans he disgusts are also the ones that make him a monster.
