Russia thrash Belgium to vie for 14th European crown
The game was much more lopsided than the first semi-final, as Belgium never really got a chance to fight for taking at least one set and Russia rallied to a comprehensive 3-0 victory (25-14, 25-17, 25-17) to keep an immaculate record with no sets lost in the tournament so far.
Russia will play Germanyin the gold medal match where they will try to seize their 14th European crown (including those won by the former Soviet Union).

KLIUKA STARS IN RUSSIA'S TIEBREAK WIN OVER USA
Taylor Sander scored an amazing total of 28 points but couldn't prevent the United States of America from losing to Russia in a pulsating 3-2 thriller (31-29, 17-25, 25-17, 27-29, 15-12) in Saturday's action of the 2017 World League.
The winger spiker delivered another scintillating performance and lead the US close to an impressive come from behind victory. But the Americans made too many mistakes (39) to have any hopes of troubling the Russians, who dominated the blocks (17 to the US' 14).
On the other side of the net, Egor Kliuka (22 points) and Maxim Zhigalov (17 points) were in dominating form.

FIVB World League Day 5 Results
Reigning Olympic champions Brazil dominated reigning world champions Poland thanks to a commanding performance by opposite spiker Renan Buiatti who scored 18 points in Brazil's 3-1 victory (25-21, 25-20, 17-25, 25-19) on Saturday's action at the 2017 World League.
An exciting five-setter between Belgium and Argentina got the day jump-started at the FIVB Volleyball World League tournament in Tehran. Sam Deroo’s shining performance, combined with Simon Van De Voorde's seven kill blocks, eventually tipped the outcome Belgium’s way – 3-2 (23-25, 25-20, 25-23, 24-26, 15-6).
Ruthless Benjamin Patch and Taylor Sander scored a team-high 15 points each to offer the United States of America their second straight victory in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World League's second weekend as the Americans cruised past Russia to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-22) win.
Canada’s John Gordon Perrin scored 24 points, 21 of them in attach in his team’s exciting 3-1 (27-25, 30-28, 21-25, 25-23) win over Bulgaria on Saturday. Gordon’s teammate, Graham Vigrass, recorded 7 successful blocks and 17 points in total, while on the other side of the net Tsvetan Sokolov finished the night with 18 points.
France overturned a 1-0 deficit to dominate Italy 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-21, 26-24) as Stephen Boyer was once again the star of the show with 19 points in Saturday's action in the 2017 World League's second week. The 21-year old continued where he left off last game when he scored 20 points as les Bleus dominated Russia 3-1 for the second time in a week to claim a fifth straight victory. With his performance against Italy, Boyer moves into second position in the scoring ranking, just behind Belgium’s ace Bram Van Den Dries. Italy's defense proved efficient against the highflying Frenchmen, claiming eleven blocks, including three for Trentino's Simone Giannelli. His club teammate Luca Vettori also shone as he scored a team high eleven points but that wasn't enough to compensate for the Azzurri's 31 errors.
Serbia’s win came in front of 12000 home fans in Tehran on Saturday to continue their 2017 FIVB Volleyball World League on the right foot. The victory means that Serbia have now broken the series tied at 2-2 out of their last four opening World League fixtures. Last season, these teams met twice in the World League and both secured a home victory. First, Serbia won 3-1 in Novi Sad and the next weekend, Iran won 3-2 in Tehran. Iran entered the court with heads up from yesterday’s victory against Belgium 3-2 but the resistant Serbia dominated the first set 25-20.

A NEW ERA : Russia NT gets ready for the World League
The Russian National Volleyball new coaching staff team has released the expanded list of 21 players for the 2017 FIVB World League. Russia NT coach once stated that the team that he picked will be “rejuvenated”. Lots of young players combined with the experienced ones. And it is, just as advertised. Here’s the 21 players list:
Setter : Sergey Antipkin (Dinamo Moskva) Dmitriy Kovalev (Ural Ufa) Pavel Pankov (Kuzbass Kemerovo)
Opposite : Konstantin Bakun (Dinamo Moskva) Maxim Zhigalov (Belogorie Belgorod) Aleksandr Kimerov (Fakel Novy Urengoy) Aleksandr Chefranov (Gazprom Yugra Surgut)
Middle Blocker : Ilya Vlasov (Fakel Novy Urengoy) Vadim Likhosherstov (Fakel Novy Urengoy) Ilyas Kurkaev (Lokomotiv Novosibirsk) Igor Filippov (Dinamo Moskva) Dmitriy Shcherbinin (Dinamo Moskva)
Outside Hitter : Denis Biryukov (Dinamo Moskva) Dmitriy Ilinykh (Dinamo Moskva) Dmitriy Volkov (Fakel Novy Urengoy) Egor Kliuka (Fakel Novy Urengoy) Egor Feoktistov (Ural Ufa) Alexey Spiridonov (Yeniset Krasnoyarsk)
Libero : Artem Zelenkov (Dinamo LO) Valentin Krotkov (Zenit Kazan) Roman Martynyuk (Belogorie Belgorod)
Coach : Sergey Shlyapnikov Source : Volley.ru
Now while I’m still baffled at some of the names here, I get his point to pick some guys who aren’t used to be on the list before. And after the last Olympics, Russia NT might want to look somewhere new — in Shlyapnikov’s word — to rejuvenate themselves. Well at least this is only for WL and not the EuroVolley. Anyway, good luck to the new coaching staff. Here’s wishing for a good run in the World League and hope these guys would have some fun.

Ricardo Lucarelli uncorked a full set of his own as hosts Brazil tenaciously prevailed over Russia 3-2 (25-18, 18-25, 25-19, 22-25, 16-14) to advance to 2017 FIVB Volleyball World League semifinals in Curitiba on the first game of Thursday action. Lucarelli’s 25-point game was followed by Mauricio Silva’s output as the fellow wing-spiker scored 14 times, while opposite Wallace De Souza capped 13 points. On the Russian side of the net, Maxim Zhigalov and Dmitry Volkov topped the list with 17 points apiece.
