Hot For Teacher - Index I Guess
This is already up on AO3 for your reading pleasure there! I don't require logged in accounts to read my stuff, but I thought maybe somebody would rather read it here. I don't know if I'll post all my TG fics on Tumblr. Maybe just the shorter ones or one-shots.
Rating: Explicit
Summary: Maverick returns, as a favor, to teach at TOPGUN. His students are great; they're some of the best naval aviators in the world. One of them is all legs, gorgeous tanned skin, blonde... Just his type. Maverick had a problem.
Note: There's some age fuckery going on here. Just to clarify.

“Here, then, is an attempt at collecting Mandarin scholarships. They’re listed in approximate order of how wide their applicant pool is. I will try to keep this post updated. Please send updates, other scholarships to include, and other link collections to me via the contact form or leave them in the comments.”
Includes a ton of information on scholarships to the PRC and ROC! Full list is here.

Renee’s Current Interests (TM)
Just so, if you’re new around here, you have some idea of what the heck is going on at the moment. And so I have an idea of what’s going on at the moment.
Age of Sail
Aubrey/Maturin
Tall ships in general
I’ll probably get dragged down other rabbit trails and fandoms, honestly.
Science
Dinosaurs (professional interest - I have to teach about them)
Sharks
Geology
Martian geology, because that’s what I’m researching at the moment
Generally cool looking rock related things
Informal and museum education, specifically science
Folk Music
Irish, Scottish, English music in the English language
Music in Irish
Childe Ballads
Tin whistle
Historical European Martial Arts
Italian Longsword, especially newbie stuff because I am a newbie
Singlestick I GUESS this weapon chose me I didn’t choose it
Languages
ALL THE LANGUAGES
Most of the language stuff in the past has gone on @maverickstudent, but more and more seems to be ending up here
Mandarin Chinese (which I suck at but am trying to get a scholarship to study)
Spanish (which I am less terrible at but need to practice)
Irish (mostly because I like to sing in it)
Esperanto because I’m a huge softie and it seemed easy

So, you’re off to university!
The good news: there’s a whole wealth of tools at your disposal. The bad news: while some are fantastic, others are worse than useless. As a new graduate who found herself introducing others to her favorite tools (and learning about new tools!) right up to my last month of classes, trust me on this: there are some websites and apps you’ll want to be using from the get-go, no matter what you’re studying. The tools I find indispensable are listed below the cut.
Canva (free with paid options) Canva is a lifesaver for those of us who aren’t artists or graphic designers. It has hundreds of pre-formatted graphics for everything under the sun, from advertisements to Pinterest posts to magazine covers. You can edit them to your heart’s desire or start your own designs from scratch. I’ve made brochures, hand-outs, and posters with Canva, in addition to dozens of blog graphics (including the one on this post, which took me about 5 minutes)! My only caution is to avoid the collaborative functions, as they’re new and still don’t work well. You should be fine without the paid features.
Quizlet (free with paid options) Quizlet is my favorite online flashcard system. It lets you make unlimited flashcards, practice them multiple ways, and access them across platforms. There are paid options, but most people will do just fine with the free version. I could go on all day about how much I love Quizlet, honestly, and I pretty much credit my GPA to this site.
Library databases (and other resources) I didn’t realize until a month away from graduation that there are subject-specific databases available to you through your uni’s library. These make research vastly easier! Depending on the database, there are tools for copy-and-pasting citations, too, which makes bibliographies a breeze. (If you, like me, aren’t familiar with what your library has to offer besides books, my librarian friend suggests you head to the reference desk and ask what resources are available to you.)
Google’s collaboration tools I don’t know how I could have done group projects without this. Google docs are fantastic for working on papers together, and Google slides let you collaborate on presentations. Pretty much all of Google’s tools available through Drive can be shared with other users.
Themed background noise Ambient mixer is a personal favorite, but YouTube also has some good videos for background listening. Rainymood.com is a favorite fallback.
Cornell Notes Maybe you learned about these in high school, maybe not. I found the Cornell system super helpful for lecture-based classes. To study for tests I just turned all of my notes into flashcards on Quizlet and worked on them until I was confident. Here’s a quick guide to get you started.
Timers/Alarms Since I’ve got some ADHD tendencies, I frequently fall back on timers. You can use them to help you get out of the door on time, take meds, eat food in a timely manner, and crawl into bed before the crack of dawn.
Other things I found helpful:
Khan Academy - super helpful for math and science classes. In addition to videos they offer practice questions.
CrashCourse - I love using CrashCourse videos to review topics, especially between semesters. The can also be good for providing clarity on difficult topics.
Erasable highlighter pens - super useful in addition to being very #aesthetic (they’re available in pastel!)
ForestApp - it’s meant to help you leave your smartphone alone, but I like using it to time study sessions. (Pomodoro timers don’t work for me since I work best in 45 minute or longer blocks.)
I could do a whole separate post on math, but Krista King’s videos are my favorite videos (she does pre-algebra through upper-level math).

Back at my favorite coffee shop for a geomorphology study session. We're doing research on Mars this semester and I honestly can't wait to get cracking.

I see I’ve gotten a lot of new followers from that textpost last night, so hey there!
I’m Renee. I’m a Junior at a public university in the US, and I’m getting my BLA with a concentration in informal science education. I don’t exactly like the education system as it exists at present, and I come from an unschooled background. I also used to co-run How To Drop Out Of High School, before the founding mod disappeared. I’m happy to answer questions about study abroad, unschooling, and self-education.
Happy studying everyone! And thanks for following. :)

I dropped calc 2 because I no longer need it (due to switching majors) and it was a huge time suck, plus it was on track to pull down my GPA pretty seriously. I’m taking second-half Cultures of the World instead, which will be fun and easy, but I still feel guilty about dropping calc.
Anyway. Articles and pretty pictures forthcoming! Anything you guys want to hear about?

One thing I love about the studyblr community is its resistance to common unhealthy myths about how students are “supposed” to behave and study. It’s refreshing to see pictures of your tea and reminders to get enough sleep here on Tumblr when friends tell me they regularly pull all nighters and hype up on caffeine.
