Para poner en valor su estadística, baste señalar que sólo LeBron James tiene más partidos que él con al menos 30 puntos, 10 rebotes y 5 asistencias en las últimas 40 temporadas de la NBA. I guess I'm gonna talk about villains (part 1?)

What people love to forget about villains is that, moreso than heroes (because heroes have become synchronous with 'protagonist' despite not necessarily being the same thing, but that's a different convo), villains serve a role in a story. And that role is the most important thing about them. Villains are (for the most part, again, not getting into that) antagonists. Not all antagonists are villains, but villains almost always make antagonists. AKA: villains are your obstacle, your boss fights, your challenge, your conflict. Villains get the ball rolling.

That's it. Obviously well-written/'good' villains also tie into some aspect of the themes or ideas of the story. Ideally they also open up aspects of the protagonist to view, not taking away from the protagonist but instead supplementing them, highlighting their character by existing/interacting. Kinda like a foil, y'know?

So with all that said, what's my miniscule list of all-time favourite villains that is apparently less than 10 entries long? Well, I don't know what tiny sketchbook I started writing it down in, and I've changed computers multiple times, so I guess I have to work off the top of my head...

in no particular order, this is just what i can think of:

maverick, from tiger&bunny

jack winters & mr sinister (i lump them together because they serve the same role and themes, just the mundane vs fantastical versions) from xmen comics that remember they're quintessential to scott summers' backstory and character. ALSO, the idea of mr sinister is better than most of his writing, so take him with a grain of salt here.

verner vogel, from frogwares' 'chapter one' continuity of sherlock holmes games.

the queen of maggots (only in the cat lady game though, rather than when she appears in havester games' other titles)

that's all i can remember right now.

Keep in mind, these are all-time fav villains: I'm looking at narrative role, themes, how they tie to who they prey on, etc. If you know these characters, you'll notice some commonalities here: personal ties to their protagonists, competent manipulation that has consequences on their victims, full of personality/character etc. These are the villains I think about when I want to make up my own villain characters. HOWEVER, this is by no means any condemnation of more simplistic villains: I too love me a good fun "black and white" villain.

Maybe in another post I'll talk about those fun villains that don't need to be complicated and the ones I personally enjoy. But for now I need a break from this thought-train, because i forget where i was going with this other than "NO, VILLAINS ARE JUST TOOLS, NOTHING MORE, GAH STOPIT".

Don’t know what class they’ll be, but fixer and netrunner smeem kinda cool - if there will be the exact same class variety as in 2020 - but I’m leaning more into the fixer corner. Probably a woman, still, it’s not definite yet, I’m not sure about it. But I’ve got a name for them.

Mit ihrem Superstar-Ensemble gilt vor der Saison als einer der Titelanwärter. Nach einer Pleitenserie sind nun die Playoffs in Gefahr. Russell Westbrook, einst wertvollster Spieler und Triple-Double-König der Liga, wird zum Buhmann. Superstar LeBron James, dazu Russell Westbrook sowie Anthony Davis. Und dann auch noch Carmelo Anthony und Dwight Howard. Die Los Angeles Lakers haben für die Jagd nach der alleinigen NBA-Rekordmeisterschaft ein phänomenales Superstar-Ensemble ins Rennen geschickt. Und die Mannschaft liefert tatsächlich Rekorde. 82 Punkte kassierten die Lakers zuletzt gegen die Dallas Mavericks - in bloß einer Halbzeit, wohlgemerkt. Das ist Negativrekord, seit die Franchise 1960 von Minneapolis nach Los Angeles umgezogen ist. "Meine Güte, was sind die Los Angeles Lakers für ein schlechtes Basketballteam", kommentierte "USA Today" kürzlich und legte nahe, die Spiele des 17-maligen Meisters nicht mehr im nationalen Fernsehen zu übertragen. Der jüngste Tiefpunkt: Nach dem 109:122 bei den Utah Jazz rutschten die Lakers in der Western Conference auf Rang elf ab. Damit wäre der Champion von 2020 nicht mal beim Play-in-Turnier dabei. Manche Experten werfen den Kaliforniern sogar vor, gar nicht mehr die Playoffs erreichen zu wollen, weil die Saison ohnehin gelaufen ist. Es folgte ein 111:114 gegen die New Orleans Pelicans, einem direkten Konkurrenten. In den letzten fünf Spielen der regulären Saison müssen Siege her, das weiß auch der angezählte Meistertrainer Frank Vogel. "Wir müssen kämpfen und uns selbst eine Chance geben", sagte der 48-Jährige: "Wenn wir es schaffen, in voller Stärke ins Play-in-Spiel zu kommen, wissen wir, dass wir eine Chance haben." Natürlich haben die Lakers Verletzungssorgen. Superstar James, Topscorer der Liga mit einem Schnitt von 30,1 Punkten, fehlte gegen Utah wegen einer Knöchelverletzung, gegen New Orleans reichten auch seine 38 Zähler nicht. Anthony Davis, der zweite Garant für die Meisterschaft vor zwei Jahren, stand nach einer Blessur am rechten Mittelfuß zwar erstmals seit Mitte Februar wieder auf dem Feld, der Rhythmus aber fehlte ihm noch komplett. Westbrook ist vor allem eins: teuer! Auf das Duo konzentrieren sich die großen Erwartungen, die so viele an die Lakers hatten. Star-Zugang Westbrook, einst wertvollster Spieler und Triple-Double-König der Liga, ist nur noch ein Schatten seiner selbst, viele Fans sind von ihm enttäuscht. Dabei ist Westbrooks Trade extrem teuer gewesen, nicht nur wegen der drei Spieler - Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Kyle Kuzma und Montrezl Harrell -, die im Gegenzug nach Washington wechselten. Rund 44 Millionen Dollar streicht der Point Guard in dieser Saison ein, James und Davis liegen nicht weit dahinter. Angesichts dieser Ballung mussten die Lakers Abstriche bei weiteren Verträgen machen. Johnson sprach gar vom "schlechtesten Trade der Lakers-Geschichte", sollte es nicht mal für das Play-in-Turnier, die Vor-Playoffs der Teams auf den Plätzen sieben bis zehn, reichen. Die stolze Franchise zahlt reichlich Zeche für ihre Personalpolitik. Ohne Davis und den mittlerweile 37-jährigen James hat das Team gegen homogen besetzte Mannschaften oft wenig entgegenzusetzen. Gegen Utah kam im 76. Saisonspiel die 37. Startformation zum Einsatz. Manch einer sagt schon, die Mannschaft der Vorsaison - mit Nationalspieler Dennis Schröder auf der Westbrook-Position - sei besser besetzt gewesen. Seit dem 28. März können Fans in ganz Europa an der vierten und letzten Abstimmung der "NBA 75 Euro Vote" teilnehmen: aus einer Vorauswahl ehemaliger und aktueller europäischer NBA Spieler, darunter Dirk Nowitzki und Detlef Schrempf, können sie das erste und zweite "All-Time NBA European Team" wählen.

There’s No Way Out for the Lakers

LeBron James faced reporters Tuesday, a microphone in his hand, another loss on his résumé and a list of reasons to remain optimistic about the Lakers’ season on his brain. Tuesday’s defeat to the Mavericks wasn’t L.A.’s worst loss of the season, but it was a loss, one that pushed the Lakers closer to mid-April exit.

“Until you stomp me out, cut my head off, bury me 12 feet under, then I’ve got a chance,” James said. “That’s my confidence.”

Officially L.A. has 21 games left, but let’s face it: It’s a wrap. The loss to Dallas dropped the Lakers to 27–34 on the season. They have lost 15 of their last 21 games. They finished a four-game home stand at 1–3. Anthony Davis, out with a foot injury, isn’t close to returning, and the Lakers weren’t particularly good when he played. The most fight they showed in a 28-point loss to the Pelicans on Sunday was with the home fans.

Tuesday’s loss wasn’t awful. The Lakers battled. They erased a 15-point half-time deficit. In the third quarter. James (26 points) caught fire from three. But the defense, as it has been all season, was leaky. And the offense, as it’s had trouble with all year, struggled to manufacture points down the stretch.

"It hurts,” said Lakers coach Frank Vogel. “When you fall short it hurts. But we have a resilient group, mentally tough group.”
