Film Review : The Wraith

1986

Thrilling, Suspenseful, & Mysterious.

Director Mike Marvin & Distributed by KadoKawa Herald Pictures - Filmed in Tuscan Arizona.

I’ve been in my element lately of watching films I’ve never seen that fall into the Noir category. Films based on their cinematography and appeal, so when I came across this one on Prime yesterday, I couldn’t be happier.

It stars Charlie Sheen and Sherilyn Fenn. The basis of the film (cause I don’t want to give spoilers, cause you should really watch it), is about a guy who was murdered and he comes back as a vigilante settling his score with his killers, but in the appearance of someone else. Set in an Arizona desert town setting, the beginning of the film grabbed me with the sci-fi feel intro of orb streaks and not going to lie the cool car we see throughout the film, that I seriously want. I love the fact that Sherilyn has lighter hair here and we all know she was absolutely great as Audrey in Twin Peaks later, but I like this side of her a lot. The fashion in this film is a homage to an 80’s MadMax but a tad more punk, mixed with southwestern flair.

So, Charlie Sheen is paying the Vigilante and we see him between his motorcycle bike and the Dodge M4S, while capturing love and revenge served in fiery explosions. There’s lots of explosions in this film and insane car stunts, which I kept finding myself saying, Wow, they really had their pyro technics down with the insane car infernos! Randy Quaid plays the sheriff in this film and he even has a scene where he makes paper doll cutouts, while interrogating the drag race posse. I still can’t get over the fact that one of the drag gang’s members was called Skank. He also huffs air dust cleaners. The additional characters are really something. Of course each revenge movie has to have a leading Psycho villain that orchestrates some really bad things and reeks bad boyfriend material.

The soundtrack alone really makes this film, from Ozzy to Billy Idol, along with its unusual burger joint, and the summer hangout near the springs. The space bounty hunter feel coexisting with the motorcycle alien-esq body suit worn by our Vigilante, makes it a very fun action sci-fi, I recommend you watch.

In conclusion, Wraith was a very pleasant film set in the pristine 80’s ambiance that I love, and it definitely deserves more exposure than it gets. I think we all have had people in our lives that we have loved that have passed on, but this movie gives the main character another chance at redoing his life to make things right. I really hope you watch it.

Some nonbinary orientations based on ma- / woma- / enba- ! ✲���｡.(✿╹◡╹)☆.*ﾟ✲

So basically, attraction to [gender] without specifying the user's gender, or whether they consider their attraction gay/straight/etc. Anyone of any gender can use these.

I know there are some specific nonbinary orientations (though they are still not as well known / harder to find than man/woman focused orientations), but I didn't know of any in this format. I wanted some matching ones for specific (nonbinary) genders, so here they are :3

(Enba- could be used, if they consider themselves nonbinary, but again, I wanted specific ones too. Also, I use nonbinary as a shorthand, but someone doesn't have to consider themselves nonbinary in addition to the specific labels listed to use these.)

The terms are prefixes, I listed sexual and romantic variants as examples, but they can be used for any attraction type, e.g. alterous, platonic, sensual, aesthetic, tertiary, emotional, physical, etc.

I'm pretty sure the etymology of ma- and woma- is based on man and woman, but without the N. So I followed that idea for my terms, using their respective equivalents to man/woman and removing the N at the end. Specifically, I chose equivalents that would end in A, to match how ma- and woma- end in A.

I couldn't figure out the names for some, and requested those term names from @your-bigender-big-brother (thanks :)

The flags are pretty simple, I just followed the format of the ma- / woma- / enba- flags (five stripes, 4 gradient colours with plain white at the bottom).

The colours are inspired by their common flags.

Specifically though, I use my (alt) abinary, midbinary, atrinary, midtrinary, trinary, and aporagender flags.

And for anga-, to make it more visually distinct from midbinary and binary, I just used shades of purple, instead of the three colours of the original androgyne flag. I did make the purples gradient in hue, so there's bluish purple and pinkish purple, to kind of reference the blue and pink in the original androgyne flag.

Oh and the white of atra- was altered to be lightly yellow, to match how my atrinary flag uses yellow white instead of plain white. It's also a thing I've been doing for many other atrinary related flags. I think it's a cute detail.

I'm not really good at coining terms, so I hope the names are okay, and the flags aren't too generic looking / undistinctive.
