It’s interesting how Anna plays up the trope of Yoh being lazy and slacking off, despite knowing him so deeply and clearly.

Anna’s unwavering confidence in Yoh is truly admirable. Even if Yoh didn’t become the Shaman King is not something that is even possible for Anna to joke about, because he follows through and is so honest and true to himself regardless of what happens.

Holy shit dude. This is intense for the first test. On the other hand, this feels so over-the-top but Yoh and the gang will be faced with even more impressive opponents in the upcoming battles :0

I like this insight that Anna gives. “No matter what, Yoh will always be Yoh” I also like the questions of “if someone wishes to be shaman kind and it comes true, what next?” It lays down the idea that not all wants and wishes are one’s true desires in life. Questions the true intentions and the nature of the characters in this series, with Yoh being un-apologetically himself.

LOL Manta is me right looking at Anna and Yoh. Look at them, they look so pretty here and grown up. They’re facing some serious trials and tribulations, and it barely has begun at this moment.

Yoh must truly feel so grateful for Anna’s strict trainings. I don’t think Anna knew what was exactly coming ahead for them, but she probably knew that Yoh had to get stronger and rely mainly on himself to get through the tough trials of The Shaman Fight.

My Music List; Or, What I Listen to While I'm Writing

I'd heard about people that listen to music while they're writing. I thought it was crazy.

I was taking a writing class from Shonda Rhimes a couple of years ago. She wrote the tv show "Grey's Anatomy", along with a number of other tv shows. She mentioned that she listens to music while writing. "How odd," I thought. It seems like you would need to focus, and you couldn't while music was blaring in your ears.

Maybe she listens to classical music or something. It seems like having words ringing through your head while you're trying to write would be difficult. Nope. Shonda Rhimes listens to heavy metal while she writes. Crazy. That is, until I tried it.

Probably around a year ago now I decided to listen to a few of my favorite songs while trying to write. Just as an experiment. I wrote faster and better. I was surprised. Now, I almost always listen to music while I write. I can write anywhere, any time, but I prefer to be standing in front of a computer listening to my music list.

A number of my Chinese students asked for the kind of music that I like, so I made a list of the songs that I listen to while writing so that they can check them out. I've even let a few of them listen to a song while we were in session to satiate their curiosity.

It's not every song that I like, but it's a solid list. I think listening to familiar songs is key. If you didn't know what was coming on next, or if it was a new song for you, you would probably pay too much attention to the music and not be able to let your mind keep that as the background so that you can focus on what you're writing. Every now and then I even put it on a single song for awhile, but I have found that I do like some variety.

The characters are so strong in distinct personalities and work so well together ;o;)/

Silva always ready to look great like wow!

This is what I like a lot about Silva, his sense of humanity and empathy. Like He is one of the Ten Commissioners, yet he seems to be the only one that is openly expression his concerns and grief. Feelings first before business. I know it’s not the professional and stern logical method but it really has a nice contrast to the other Commissioners and makes Silva stand out the most.

I do not recall this moment in either animes...it probably was there but I did not recall well...anyways I really like it. The idea that The Great Spirit is not as all-knowing as The Great Spirit might have been seen as in the start. How in the end, reality and the future changes based on the actions of individuals and is unpredictable and the future is but a result of these actions and choices.

THIS IS SO CUTE XD They’re so adorable I love them. Also the Oracle Bell looks so tiny in Yoh’s hand :O

YESSS!!! More characters!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 It makes me wonder how quick and hastily do the potential candidates have to travel to get to Japan for the first initial test.

it was a chapter full of really cool and interesting scenes + poses, i was mainly just reading in awe tbh.

cool scene:

its funny how the previous chapter i was mentioning how yoh didnt feel like a common shounen protag with speaking his thoughts before actions, but then this part really in the chapter proved me wrong. it wasn’t boring though, it was quick and still full of action despite the talk-through. i liked it.

yoh attempting a few tries after being thrown the power of “intelligence” is important to evolve and grow powerful as a shaman.

i actually forgot about this part XD its also because amidamaru wasn’t connected to a item, but i thought that yoh had a small tablet of amidamaru’s to anchor him?

silva’s sacred souls are so sassy and full of personality XD i didn’t share all of them but yeah. the buffalo was my fave :3 he’s just a silly.

silva is a proud mother, look at him :,)

at first silva was like: come on use your brain, yoh :0

the way amidamaru is like biting down on the sword.

so amidamaru is so dedicated and loyal to yoh and their friendship, that he is willing to defy the norm to push his master to high levels of power and abilities :)

hello, here’s another chapter reading of shaman king :)

this chapter was so cool, seeing all the different sacred souls working together with Silva.

Look at him, he’s honestly living his best life with this reveal XD

i really like these chapter artwork, not sure what theyre called but theyre neat.

i like yoh’s attitude of just jumping in without too much pre-planning. He’s right of just going in with his best foot forward and figure it out as he goes. It’s nice because i feel like in other shounen, its common for the protaganist to think hard and do a whole pre-prep talk about their plan and intentions before the fight...it can get very confusing and long. so this is nice.

i like whenever Manta gets involved like this. It’s very sweet and reminds me that Manta is Yoh’s very first true friend and that he is very lucky to have a friend that cares so much for him. Even when all this is very new to Manta. Manta is using his own knowledge and reasoning to take everything very seriously. And while Yoh is very casual about all this at moments, Manta’s continuous teacher-like behavior and sternness is truly his way of caring and showing his love to Yoh.

i know ive really taken my time reading this series, mainly due to sudden illness & other things that popped up but im happy to continue doing this and continue reading this wonderful series :)

this scene below makes me feel like Takei Hiroyuki put a lot of their soul and effort into it. a peaceful moment that is shrouded in confusion and distress. look at how conflicting, yet calm and light-hearted this scene looks: also the textures are gorgeous <3

here comes therapy yoh again, coming in at THE perfect time in my life where patience and staying focused on our present is can save our emotional energy. not worrying over the inevitable, but also not worrying on the unknown is something that i’m sure many struggle with as do i. there’s only so much we can plan and prepare for the future that is everychanging...ever shifting.

i want to try to document some thoughts of me reading shaman king for the first time.

ive seen the 2021 anime adaption and its really good but the new adaption was told at a very fast pace for a first timer like me :3c so maybe the manga will be easier to understand some arcs. ill keep these under “reads mores” so it wont crowd ppl’s timeline thing

i really dig seeing whenever the spirits hang around the humans, like its so cool and also i really like these two together, theyre a very cool duo and makes me respect ryu more with his teamwork with Tokageroh

i feel like even without knowing what will happen, i feel like it’s heavily hinted what ami would chose considering his personality and his big puppy heart and sense of justice.

this whole scene melts my heart!! oh my gosh!!! the power of friendship and love and just the emotional trauma and kindness they go through together ;o;)/

i like how clearly and plain yoh has said this about tokageroh. i feel ike tokageroh are those characters that need things to be said clearly even if he’s still lost to what yoh is referring to. Tokageroh is also a very interesting counter to ami to confront him since tokageroh is just bad bad bad and his origions were as bloody and malicious as ami was (as bloody too) but just and good intentions.

does the left side of the house have windows too?? or did anna just steal the only room with the biggest windows on the second floor??

also this layout interior design is well done. i remember watching the anime and was pretty confused on how the building worked and how big was it really?? so this is really neat. based on how many times we see the bath area, i actually thought it was significiantly more bigger?? then again this is a zoomed out version :0

ryu just casually swinging around his cooking knife.

i though this whole scene was very sweet of ryu. that he wanted to repay them and that he felt so welcomed and comfortable enough with them to claim this place as their new best place. <3 :,)

i also like how clearly they showed the strength and capacity of ryu. idk if it was stated clearly in the anime...but it’s nice to get confirmation :3c also dude, he’s so tall wtf he’s like almost two annas stacked on top of each other

ryu is such a good boy. he still gives me iffy vibes, but he has very good intentions still. mainly with his honor and doing things right like wanting to repay his misdeeds...despite that that misdeed wasn’t his doing 100%...he is still claiming responsibilities and i respect that.

i really enjoy how unhinge tokageroh is. like ive said before, the writing of this series with their chracters are so good. like they didn’t have to give them so much dept so much substance to say that this spirit is evil but the fact that they did really makes this series an enjoyable read. and the thinking processes and facial expressions we get to see the characters go through is such a treat.

its harder to push forward and do better...be better...and i just LOVE how much they push this idea and go so deep with it. it’s a revisited concept since the beginning and the constant reminder and lessons throughout this series is just so (chef kiss) tasty to read and digest.

also the friendships and bonds in the series AA soo good (sorry this is just me gushing over the series, but that isnt new lol)

this is also a very cool composition!

i also like that we get to see manta go through his own process and have his own reality and ideas shattered multiple times and rebuilt stronger and new. manta is a perfect character to reenforce the concepts the Hiroyuki Takei highlights in this series....he is, what i would consider, a character that represents the everyday person. manta is portrayed as an average student -- a regular kid with no conncections to this new world he was dragged into by Yoh.

i missed out on so much shaman king, decided that why not and read one more?

Love jun and Lee ;o;)/  its so hard to think of a favorite character or a set of characters because their stories and personalities are so unique and interesting in itself. like i can’t just favorite 1 or 2 characters only! i do have my fave fave fave characters, but ultimately im a huge fan of the whole set :,) theyre all so complex and different. its so fun and interesting to read

hehehehe thats something i like about this series. i feel like while it does follow like early high schoolers..late middle schoolers? and everything is so intense and over the top, that the kids still can and do act like kids despite everything. i love it.

look at ami ;o;)/ hes so cute here while the kids are all talking about the cool ass movie they just saw and ami is like: wow that was so cool and amazing! i can sneak into movie houses and watch them whenever >:3c

if i was yoh i’d be like bro seriously? your brother already beat me up and now this? i barely recovered a few months ago and my fiance comes and runs me up and down the river and now this ?? for a nice evening with my friends and this >:0  i also love that yoh is like holding back ami like ami is NOT having it. He is fed up with these tao kids trying to seperate them.

2 out of 2 tao siblings have beaten up yoh : ( its kinda sad because anna at first was like wow my training with yoh is really helping him >: ) and then bam smack! it was just for a second :( and like this is ANOTHER great motivator for yoh but like still :( he worked so hard all summer, finally getting a small break and outing with his friends and then getting literally smacked down again ? like man :( i’d be super frustrated if i was in his situation :(

MAN i can’t believe i havent read so much of shaman king yet because every time i read a new chapter i have to literally stop myself from reading more and more. the point of making these posts and stuff is to help me slow down and really really appreciate the art and the story. To digest the concepts and ideas at my own pace unlike the anime. but man!! the writing, the characters, the pacing?? is so well done and so heartfelt and fun and just wow i want to read more and more every time :,0
