This came in the mail today—Vertical Horizon’s late 90s hit album, “Everything You Want.” The singles still hold up and a few other tracks are earworms but the sound on this is unavoidably weak because they had to cram too much music on there to fit the entire album. CDs hold up to 72 minutes of music, so it was a long album—about 50 minutes—but an LP side comfortably holds 20-23 minutes tops. Side One is 26 minutes long, give or take, so it sounds crappy—and naturally that’s the side with all the hits. Still, it’s good to hear these tunes again, as the late 90s were really one of the last gasps for melodic guitar pop, with bands like this and Gin Blossoms, Nine Days and so on denting the charts. Good times.
