The golden rule of treating people how you want to be treated came from Jesus here in the New Testament!!! We would be loving God above everything because we wouldn’t be doing anything sinful, and we would be loving our neighbor (people) as ourselves since we would be treating them how we want to be treated!

“Counseling through the Word” Devotional: Facing Your Own Shortcomings
Tumblr media
“Counseling through the Word” Devotional: Facing Your Own Shortcomings
Scripture: Matthew 7:3-5 (ESV) - "Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye." Jesus' teaching in Matthew 7:3-5 is a powerful reminder of the importance of self-examination. It's easy to point out the faults in others, but much harder to confront our own shortcomings. Yet, Jesus calls us to do just that. Before we can help others, we must first address the sin in our own lives. This passage encourages us to approach others with humility, recognizing that we, too, are in need of grace.
Devotional Thought
The imagery Jesus uses is striking—trying to remove a speck from someone else’s eye while ignoring the log in your own. It’s an exaggerated picture, but it drives home a vital truth: we often overlook our own sins while focusing on the faults of others. This can lead to a judgmental attitude, where we elevate ourselves above others instead of recognizing that we all fall short of God’s standards. Facing your own shortcomings is not about self-condemnation, but about humility and honesty before God. When you acknowledge your own need for grace, you can approach others with compassion rather than criticism. This doesn’t mean ignoring sin in others, but addressing it in a way that reflects the love and forgiveness you’ve received from Christ. Jesus doesn’t forbid helping others with their struggles; rather, He calls us to do so with the right heart. After dealing with your own sin, you will be in a better position to gently and lovingly help others. The process of self-examination and repentance equips you to see clearly and guide others in a way that honors God.
Bringing it Home: Applying What We Learned
- Self-Examination: Take time to reflect on areas in your life where you need to repent and seek God’s forgiveness. Ask Him to reveal any "logs" that may be hindering your spiritual vision. - Humble Help: When addressing the faults of others, do so with humility, remembering that you, too, are a recipient of God’s grace. Approach others with a heart of compassion rather than judgment. - Growth Through Grace: Embrace the process of personal growth by allowing God to work in your life, removing obstacles that prevent you from walking in His light.
Prayer
Lord, help me to see my own shortcomings and to seek Your grace and forgiveness. Give me the humility to address my own sin before helping others with theirs. May I approach others with the same love and compassion that You have shown me. Amen.
Questions for Reflection
- What are some areas in your life where you need to seek God's forgiveness? - How can you approach others with humility and compassion rather than judgment? - What steps can you take to allow God to remove obstacles in your life that prevent you from walking in His light?

The True Path to Salvation: Why Religion Alone Cannot Save Us
Tumblr media
Many people turn to religion seeking salvation, hoping that by following a set of rules or rituals, they can earn their place in heaven. But what does the Bible, the word of God, say about this? According to Ephesians 2:8-9, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." This passage clearly states that salvation comes through faith in God's grace, not through our own works or religious practices. Our salvation is not something we can earn; it’s a gift from God, given freely to those who put their trust in Jesus Christ. This doesn’t mean that church practices are irrelevant, but rather that they are not the means by which we are saved. Jesus has already secured our salvation by dying on the cross because of His love for us and His knowledge that we cannot save ourselves. As John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." This verse highlights the incredible love and grace of God, who offers salvation to all who believe in His Son, Jesus Christ. Salvation is not earned through human efforts or good deeds or merits; it’s a gift from God, made possible through His grace and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. No amount of religious striving can earn us eternal life—it's only through faith in Jesus that we can have true salvation. Our salvation is entirely dependent on God's grace, not on our own efforts or merits. It’s a humbling reminder that we cannot save ourselves. In John 14:6, Jesus declares, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." Here, Jesus makes it clear that He is the only way to God the Father. Salvation is found in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, not through religious systems or rituals. Religious systems are man-made and no man can dictate the way to reach God; it is God who reached out to us by sending His only begotten Son to save us. Consider also Matthew 7:21-23, where Jesus says, "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." This passage emphasizes the importance of aligning our lives with God's will and putting only our faith in Him, rather than just going through religious motions. The message is clear: religion alone cannot save us. It is only through God's grace, as revealed in Jesus Christ, that we can have true salvation and eternal life. We should place our faith not in our own religious efforts, but in the unmerited favor of God, who offers us forgiveness and redemption through His Son Jesus Christ. If you are still in doubt and unsure about where you will go after you die, it is not too late. Accept the love of God, humble yourself, acknowledge that you are a sinner who needs a Savior, and put your faith in Jesus Christ alone. He died for you to give you eternal life. You don’t know what will happen tomorrow. Accept Jesus as your Lord and personal Savior. Don’t wait until it’s too late. Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He is near. Now is the time, now is the day of salvation. As 2 Corinthians 6:2 says, "For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation." Our Father in Heaven
Sunday 9AM 2016.05.22
Our Father In Heaven
Who are your prayers directed to? What picture of God do you have when you pray?
Jesus addresses God as "our Father in Heaven".
Matthew 6:6-15 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. “This, then, is how you should pray: “ Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. ’ For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
He is your Father.
How your Heavenly Father feels about you: 1) He is proud of you.
John 1:12
We are given the honour to be children of God.
1 John 3:1
Fathers are naturally proud of their children.
1 Thessalonians 2:19-20
Matthew 3:7
John 17:23
He looks over you and is well pleased with you. He loves us and is proud of us. We need not fear that he might not accept us, we must repent our sins but He still loves us.
Hebrews 4:16
2) He prizes fellowship with you.
God enjoys when we come before Him in prayer. He delights to hear His children praying to Him.
Proverbs 15:8
It is only in fellowship with Him that we will truly live. He delights in genuine prayers. Being together with His children, it brings joy to His heart; He is interested in you.
3) He will provide for you.
Mathew 6:11 Give us today our daily bread.
Matthew 7:7-8
He will provide.
Matthew 7:9-10
Matthew7:11
This is what the Father will do for you.
Romans 8:32
He answers prayers because He wants to provide for His children.
