Faye Webster's Laundromat Experience
by Liesl Miranda
On a Wednesday night at Charlotte, NC's Fillmore Theater, Faye Webster’s delightful blend of warm vocals, electric guitar jams, pedal steel licks washed over the sold-out crowd. Nostalgia and playfulness sparkled throughout the whole set, complete with a shower of actual bubbles and a few Minion cameos (when asked by an audience member, without hesitation she stated that her favorite Minion is Kevin). Backdropped by a giant hanger and white tee and flanked by washing machines and racks of blue t-shirts hanging out to dry, Faye Webster transported us into a laundromat experience unlike any other.
Benét opened up the night, winning over the room easily with his smooth tunes and cheerful banter with the crowd.
Faye started her performance with But Not Kiss, a song off her newest record Underdressed at the Symphony. The initial crooning lines were immediately grounded with Charles LaMont’s tight drum beat, Noor Khan’s steady bass, and Annie Leeth’s bright piano riff, and was later topped off with sprinkles of pedal steel courtesy of Matt “Pistol” Stossel. The set continued on with a sweet mix of songs off the new album (“Lego Ring” complete with Faye’s Singsongorama game animations) and past album classics including “Right Side of My Neck” and “In a Good Way” - all of which the crowd happily swayed and sang along to. The harmony across all the members of the band made the set seem effortless, allowing each audience member to melt into every song as if we ourselves were blue tees in a laundry cycle set on gentle, swirling around in waters of musical bliss.
Faye Webster’s tour has just begun, with US and Canada shows spanning until October of this year. You can find her list of tour dates here. Be sure to check out our full gallery of photos from this concert below!

Thursday Thrill: Exciting Events This Week!
Nicole Newman, the event editor of WhatsOn, has once more listed some amazing events for this week. The events have already begun, so don’t wait to put on your sneakers and have some fun this week. Here are a few of the week’s best events. UKG Brunch All Rave 4 Feb A highlight for this weekend's clubbing feast takes you to London for a bottomless UKG brunch daytime rave. If you are bored out of your brains this Saturday and at a loose end and love, love, love dance music then UKG is where you need to be. With liked minded clubbers heading on out to get their rave on for this whopping 8-hour experience. Taking an alternative approach to the clubbing experience, as most know it! You can feast on gorgelicious brunch food and wash it down with delicious drinks until the 60-minute clock stops. And then hit the dance floor, working up a sweat to some of the best dam finest UK garage music that anyone could hope for. This weekend has one extensive DJ line-up and live PA sets playing for an up-for-it regular and new crowd. Expect something very special as UKG Brunch is celebrating its 5th Birthday. This only goes to show this is one clubbing experience that's made its mark and is here to stay. Bringing the party to one of London's most standout iconic venues, the Ministry of Sound which has hosted the best promoters weekly to sellout events. Hosting two mega rooms to have your best clubbing party in. Each features a DJ line-up playing non-stop garage music. For more info & tickets ukgbrunch.com Heritage 7 4 Feb The Hare & Hounds has made its mark amongst some of the biggest-known venues in Birmingham. Smaller in comparison this holds no bearing on this venue. The point is it hosts sell-out parties. Why? Because those that go there know what they're in for and that's nothing more than a spectacular night of their life which leaves them wanting more. This venue is the venue of the revival parties from some of the standout clubbing brands of an era when the people going out were loved up in the music and the DJs giving us their sounds. The ones that kept the dance floors packed with happy smiling people. Not professional dancers, but making a maximum effort in dancing to beats that could be felt in the heart. Where there were no stabbings or violence and everyone looked out for each other. The Hare & Hounds is recreating this time again. Drawing a crowd of clubbers past but open to new ones allows them into a window of a time that people only lived for their weekend. Living for the weekend is more than a saying. It is real life and was what got you through the week with an excitement that was so overflowing come Friday it was hard to contain. It was ecstasy without taking ecstasy. The saying buzzing comes to mind. Heritage 7 takes centre stage this weekend for the 7th birthday event. The three-year campaign will come to an end with the theme "2024: Together, we challenge those in power," which will be followed by this year's theme, "2023: Uniting our voices and taking action." Let's fly the flag on this 4th of February. Let's use hashtags to take over social media and make it a hot issue to raise awareness. Most importantly, let's make a commitment to ourselves that we will be informed, that we will band together, and that we will be acting. For more Info www.worldcancerday.org Read the full article

Twins Finally Beat Royals In Kansas City!
Twins 7 Royals 2 W-Dobnak (5-1) L-Singer (1-3)
The Minnesota Twins have had a tough time playing the Royals in Kansas City in 2020. The Royals had won all four meetings against the Twins at Kauffman Stadium and looked for a fifth straight win tonight. The Twins had other plans as the bats woke up and Randy Dobnak threw a gem. The Twins offense got to work in the first inning. Max Kepler led-off with a double to right and Jorge Polanco singled. This brought up Eddie Rosario, who smoked a Brady Singer change-up out to right for a three-run blast and the Twins led early. The offense got back to work in the fourth when Miguel Sano blasted a Brady Singer fastball out to deep left field for a solo homer. This put the Twins up 4-0 after four frames. Meanwhile, Randy Dobnak threw four shutout innings before the Royals got to him in the fifth. Alex Gordon smacked a Dobnak slider out to center for a solo homer. The Royals were within three runs and not done yet. Cam Gallagher and Whit Merrifield singled to extend the inning. Nicky Lopez plated a run with a double to left and the Royals were within two after five innings of play. The Twins would get some insurance runs in the seventh. Alex Avila drew a lead-off walk and Max Kepler was hit in the foot by a pitch. Jorge Polanco bunted the runners over and Eddie Rosario was intentionally walked to load up the bases. Marwin Gonzalez drew a bases loaded walk and Miguel Sano delivered a run-scoring single to center. Minnesota had a five-run lead and Randy Dobnak finished off five solid innings. Tyler Duffey got out of a jam in the sixth, Tyler Clippard fanned two in the seventh, and Daniel Coulombe tossed two scoreless innings to save the bullpen tonight. The Twins finally picked up their first win at Kauffman Stadium this season.
-Final Thoughts- Randy Dobnak was very strong tonight. He threw five-plus innings and allowed two runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Tyler Duffey got out of Dobnak’s jam in the sixth. Tyler Clippard had a scoreless seventh and Daniel Coulombe had two scoreless innings in his Twins debut. Eddie Rosario, Miguel Sano, and LaMonte Wade each had two hits to lead the team. The Twins hit 3-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Before the game, the team placed Jake Odorizzi (chest contustion) and Zack Littell (right elbow inflammation) on the 10-day injured list. They called up Daniel Coulombe and Sean Poppen from the alternate training site. Tomorrow, Matt Wisler gets the start against Kris Bubic in the rubber game.

Rinse: Lockdown Live Presents Backto95, By Sarah
Basic Details: https://www.twitch.tv/rinsefm, Streaming 12:00 pm EST / 5:00 pm GMT on May 23. I found the stream on a French radio Instagram page, thinking it would be based in France, but a good number of the DJs were UK based and were playing from London. The stream lasted until 10:00 pm GMT. I attended 1.5 hours of the stream. There was a max of 332 participants
Visuals: With no outside visuals, most of what viewers saw was the DJs themselves performing and making mixes on their own equipment in their own homes. Being able to see their intimate surroundings and the time of day perhaps helped enhance the experience of “liveness” although it was a bit more difficult to capture here.
Sonic Experience: The emphasis so far with DJ Firin squad is not so much dance music than "lo-fi hip hop beats to study to." It's smooth, something to sway to, but not really upbeat party music. It changed very little throughout the course of their set. Largely the genres they chose from were Rap, Hip Hop, and R&B, with some instances of very relaxed house music. DJ Matt Jam Lamont, on the other hand, played some very high energy mixes that included remixes of 80s dance pop / post-disco type of music on vinyl.
Technology: This stream was my first on Twitch for the purposes of research. On Twitch you are limited to the stream frame and the sidebar chat. Sometimes, there are Most DJs had a CDJ setup with a mixer, and some incorporated using their laptops. One DJ in particular, Matt Jam Lamont, used CDJs, a mixer, and a record player, mixing in some vinyl tracks alongside digital ones.
The sound was pretty good — mixed well and sounded clear. There was no cutting off or glitching due to poor connectivity. Rinse simulcasted to at least three other platforms, (Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook) so I am surprised that the stream sound quality was that good.
Social Experience: When I was on the stream, there was very little chat interaction. Most of the chatbox contributions were emojis, like the music note, fire symbol, and hearts. Looking back on the stream now, there were a few more comments, but for a five hour set it was pretty sparse. There was one fan of DJ Matt Jam Lamont who praised his use of vinyl. Another bunch of people commented later in the stream that their feeds were frozen, a technical difficulty I was not around to experience. Based on the slang in the chat, it seemed most people tuning in were located in the UK. This is the chat about halfway into the stream:
