INHALT - Commerce - minimal wave on Dark Entries
INHALT, German for “content”, is the main project of producer and songwriter Matia Simovich.
Dark Entries is proud to release the third EP “Commerce” from San Francisco based INHALT, German for “content”. “Commerce” closes the bands anti neo-liberalism trilogy that started with “Vehicle” and left off with the surveillance-themed “Occupations”. The course du jour is a close examination of the self destructive tendency of the ego in relation to the allure of negativity and mass tragedy. This, in tandem with the sociopolitical reinforcement of identity as a commercial product, and psychological insanity as status quo, laid the groundwork for the songwriting. The EP details the psychopathy of relentless thirst mandated by neo-liberalism and traverses through to the adoption of social and economic technologies that strengthen domination vis a vis self enslavement to disempowerment. There are no answers, only descriptors and mantras until the void of wholeness is reached out of complete solitude. The machine has stopped long enough to witness its own destruction in the wake of the rise of consciousness.

Razorline is a post-punk, solo project from Nico, who resides in Italy. After a number of years of making electronic music and working as a sound designer for art galleries, theater, and fashion shows, he needed to get back to his roots and first passion, guitars. His self-titled debut release has been released as a free-to-download album from Manic Depression’s Bandcamp site. While never fully straying away from electronics, this album blends the angular guitars, and detached resonance of classic post-punk with elements of industrial electronic. Tracks featured tonight include “Overtime,” “Skinsex,” and “The Box.”

Inhalt, the German word for “content,” is also dark electronic / minimal synth music based in San Francisco. Combining hard-driving beats propelled by German vocals, their overall sound is sleek, chic, cold and formidable. The trio, consisting of Philip Winiger, Matia Simovich, and Steven Campodonico formed in 2009 and has released a handful of albums. On April 14, they will be releasing their latest release “Part Time Punks” on the Cleopatra label. Tracks featured tonight come from that release and include their first single “Walking on Glass,” and two deep cuts including “Occupations,” and “Programming.”

Dyr Faser began as a solo project and has expanded and contracted over time. Multi-instrumentalist Eric Boomhower (vocals, guitar, synth, Casio) began writing tracks and has included a number of other musicians including Thalia Zedek (Live Skull, Come), Kate Murray, and more recently, Amelia Emmet to round out his sound. Combining elements of post-punk, psychedelia and electronics, Dyr Fraser’s sound is dark, haunting and addictive. Tracks featured tonight are from their 2016 release “Trio” and include “Den of Sables,” “Don’t,” and “Hybrid Souls.”

I Tpame I Tvrame is a stunning duo from Albania. Combining sequences of drums, synths, growling guitars and obscured vocals, Dina Hajrullahu & Franc Kurti create intriguing coldwave tracks. It’s been about a year since they first got on our radar here at Strawberry Tongue and they have since released one breathtaking single after another. Relying on electronics, reverb, and swirling somber tones, the duo drags you into dark and otherworldly spaces. They recently released their first full-length album, “Future Attitude.” Tracks tonight include title track “Future Attitude,” “Satori,” and “Distress.”

Dark electronic trio INHALT announce 'Part Time Punks Sessions', unveil first single 'Walking On Glass'
On April 14, dark electronic / minimal synth outfit INHALT will be releasing their new album ‘Part Time Punks Sessions’ via Cleopatra Records, who are giving a taste of the album by presenting the lead single 'Walking on Glass'. Hard-driving, up-tempo, and propelled by German vocals, this and the other tracks offered on this release are sleek, chic and cold, formidably capturing the INHALT sound and ethos. The video for 'Walking On Glass' was shot, edited, and directed by Dmitry Semenov, one of the main visual collaborators for Recoil (Alan Wilder/ Depeche Mode).
The 'Part Time Punks Sessions' LP features the best of the band's signature synth-driven dark analog pop. This is both a live and a studio album, having been recorded in real time in collaboration with the Part Time Punks radio show in Los Angeles. This is the band's fourth significant release and final album to be recorded at the band’s homebuilt studio, affectionately called “The Bunker”. INHALT is German for “content”. This San Francisco-based trio is comprised of Philip Winiger, Matia Simovich, and Steven Campodonico. Winiger, born in Switzerland, visited San Francisco for a year long sabbatical but ended up forming the band with Simovich in 2009. They immediately recognized their mutual philosophy of sonic fidelity and creative integrity, rather than nostalgia. For some INHALT will already be known, having released their first three releases on notable record labels. Their split 12” with London’s seminal World Unknown Records happened in 2011, followed by their “Vehicle” and “Occupations” EPs for San Francisco’s cult powerhouse Dark Entries Records. These waves of dark energy-filled output firmly established INHALT’s sound. What emerged was a well-defined pop sensibility informed by European Minimalism and a sincere, yet playfully cynical sense of humor. As much Kraftwerk as John Carpenter but with a pronounced drive of Moroder disco, INHALT’s sound has found home in both studious personal listening and the crowded dance floor. "If we’ve been accused of putting too much time in the production process, PTP Sessions would be our antithesis; Done quickly, direct to multitrack analog tape, in a single take, capturing our live show, as it is, warts and all. We took inspiration from the John Peel sessions of days past, and worked in the spirit of that body of work from the performance, straight to the final mix down," explains Matia Simovich. "It was a great privilege to be asked to do this by Michael Stock (who runs Part Time Punks), and we delivered something that we feel matches the essence of PTP: raw, honest, and on the border between the past and the present." Hot on the heels of the “Simulacra” remix EP for London’s Emotional Especial, INHALT not only ravaged the dance-centric anglo beat (fueled by remixes from heavyweights Timothy J. Fairplay and Black Merlin), but also found themselves in their ideal creative intersection: the road between the lyrical response to a challenging world, a sublime and elegant production technique, and the never ending pulse of the transistor rhythm machine. On the concert circuit, INHALT have a reputation for bringing a tour de force wall of sound with an energetic stage presence. They have played concerts with peers old and new, including Front 242, Clock DVA, Martial Canterel, and High Functioning Flesh. They’ve condensed this raw concert experience into the John Peel-esque Part Time Punks Sessions, to be made available on April 14, both digitally and on CD, via Cleopatra Records with the vinyl release to follow.
On March 17, INHALT will deliver a specially curated DJ set in Austin at SXSW as part of the event 'AFS and Holodeck Present: Kwaidan Rescored 2017 SXSW Official'. This event, which takes place at The Hideout Theater beginning at 7pm local time, was organized by Holodeck Records in partnership with the Austin Film Society.
