Y/N glowered at her aunt. “I cannot believe you managed to convince me to attend this... thing.”

“And I cannot believe that you’re still complaining,” her aunt, Allison, countered. “It will be fine.”

“I’m not a proper member of the ton, Auntie,” Y/N replied, slumping back into the cushioned seats of the carriage. “As everyone keeps making abundantly clear.”

“Lady Whistledown likes you,” Allison said, raising her eyebrows. “As do the Bridgerton’s.” 

Y/N sighed. “Yes, thank you, Auntie. I still don’t understand why you drag me along with you to these things.”

“You entertain me.”

“What am I, your performing monkey?” Y/N asked, giving her a very unimpressed look. “You just like talking to Lady Danbury about how intolerable the rest of society is.” 

“Well, yes,” Allison said, nodding. “But it’s also a good opportunity -”

“Oh, not this again -”

“ - for you to find a husband -”

“ - I do not need you playing matchmaker for me, Auntie!” Y/N snapped, giving her aunt a very pointed and grumpy look. “I’ll be fine.”

Her aunt raised her eyebrows at her niece. “You’ll become a spinster.”

Ah, the dreaded condition known as the spinster. An unmarried woman became known as a spinster when she went beyond the usual age for marriage. This was usual twenty-eight which was, in Y/N’s mind, still fairly young for a woman. 

Y/N groaned and looked out the carriage window, choosing to ignore her aunt’s comment. “Oh, look, we’re here,” she said, thankful that the carriage had pulled up to Lady Danbury’s estate at the right moment. 

A footman stepped forward and opened the carriage door. He held out a hand for Y/N and she took it, letting him help her down the stairs.

“Thank you,” Y/N said with a smile as she pulled her shawl around her shoulders. 

“Y/N!” 

Benedict Bridgerton broke off from his mother and Colin and began walking up to her. 

“Benedict!” Y/n greeted, walking to meet him. “I wasn’t expecting you tonight.”

“I was dragged along,” Benedict muttered, shooting his mother as disdainful look.

Violet merely gave Y/N a cheer wave as she walked in to the building with Colin and Anthony. 

“Same here,” Y/N replied, shooting her aunt a disdainful look who’d happily caught up with Violet Bridgerton. “Well, we can be miserable together.”

“And perfectly happy apart,” Benedict finished, holding his arm out for her to take. “Miss Y/L/N.”

“Mr Bridgerton,” Y/N replied, smiling. 

Y/N was miserable. She hadn’t been this unhappy since she’d been forced to dance with Lord Berbrooke until Anthony Bridgerton had swung in and saved her.

“Lord Smith, I don’t suppose we could have a break for a few minutes?” Y/N asked as the dance (the third one she’d danced with him that night) ended. “I’d like a drink and a moment to catch my breath.”

“Ever the lady,” he muttered, rolling his eyes.

Y/N curtsied to him. Lord Smith was not a very nice person and didn’t particularly care about the etiquette of society. Y/N took her chance and tried not to run through the crowd to escape the man. Her aunt had vanished along with Lady Bridgerton and Lady Danbury and Benedict had disappeared off with his sister and she’d been left to the lion’s den with no one around.

In her haste, she didn’t look where she was going and walked straight into someone.

“Oh!” Y/N exclaimed. She felt herself falling backwards only to be saved from impact with the floor by someone’s hands grabbing her waist.

“Sorry!” Benedict exclaimed, wincing with embarrassment as he caught her from falling on to the floor. “That was my fault.”

“I wasn’t looking,” Y/N replied, waving his concern off. She glanced behind her and silently cursed as she saw Lord Smith heading her way, weaving through the crowd like a man on a mission. “Catch me,” she said quickly, looking up at Benedict.

Benedict frowned. He looked behind her and saw Lord Smith approaching and his frown depended. “What?”

“I’m going to fake a swoon to scare him off, please catch me,” Y/N replied, urgency in her voice. 

She didn’t give Benedict a chance to question her, admittedly, shoddy plan. If she'd had more time - and wasn’t so desperate to just vanish into thin air - she probably could have come up with a better plan. But, as it was, Y/N took a leaf out of the debutantes guid book, closed her eyes and dropped, hoping her friend was going to understand her urgency and actually catch her.

Judging from the gasp that went up around them and the fact she felt Benedict’s arms gently lower her to the floor, she assumed he’d caught on to her plan. 

“Have you been practicing that?!” Benedict whispered, moving her so that she rested against his leg. 

Y/N felt a hint of a smile on her lips but forced herself to keep calm. 

“What happened?”

That was Anthony. Which meant she was now safely out of Lord Smith’s grasp. Y/N slowly opened her eyes and found herself looking up into Benedict’s eyes. 

“Hi,” she said softly, smiling. 

“Have a nice nap?” Benedict asked, helping her sit up. One hand rested on her shoulder and the other was still around her waist - his grip firm and reassuring. 

Anthony handed her a glass of water and raised an eyebrow at her, completely unconvinced by her little act. “You swooned?”

“Oh, be quiet,” Y/N muttered, taking the water and sipping it. “It was an emergency.” She nodded behind Anthony at Lord Smith who was standing next to Lady Danbury and appeared to be getting an earful about three dances in a row from her and Lady Bridgerton. “I was trying to escape.”

Anthony rolled his eyes. “Of course.”

Benedict chuckled and Y/N felt his chest vibrate with it. She struggled not to smile a giddy smile as she suddenly realised how close she was to him - and the fact his hand was still on her waist. 

“Want to try standing up?” He suggested, raising his voice on behalf of the ton who were watching and listening.

Y/N nodded and let the two brothers help her to her feet. “Thank you,” she said, turning to face Benedict. “I’d like some fresh air, if that’s alright?”

“Of course, Miss Y/L/N,” Benedict said, all but beaming at her. He took her arm and they slowly made their way out onto the terrace - away from the ballroom and the prying eyes of London.

Once they were safely away from the ballroom, Benedict let go of her arm and turned to her, raising an eyebrow.

“The fake swoon?” He asked, crossing his arms and smirking. “Seriously, Y/N? I expected better.”

“What was I meant to do?!” She exclaimed, throwing her hands up. ““Three dances, Benedict, three. I know I’m not a proper lady but -”

“Don’t say that,” Benedict said softly, taking her hand. 

Y/N frowned. “Don’t say... what?”

“That you’re not a proper lady,” Benedict elaborated. “I don’t like it when you talk about yourself as if you’re nothing.”

Y/N smiled sadly. “Well, in the eyes of society, Benedict, I am nothing. I’m an orphan with almost no dowry and an aunt who’s marriage lasted a month before he died. I come with scandal and a reputation that was ruined before I even arrived.”

“Yet you are as much as a lady as those women in there,” Benedict replied. He raised a hand and rested it on Y/N’s cheek. “If not more. Reputation be damned, Y/N, you are more than worthy of the title of Lady. Heritage and money may buy you the title of lady but it doesn’t make you one. A lady requires grace and agility and elegance. They have to dance and be perfect and - why are you looking at me like that?”

Y/N stared at him. “You and the point of that sentence are further apart than the Earth is from Pluto.”

“I’m trying to compliment you!” He exclaimed, staring back at her. “I was -”

“Going off on a tangent that was entirely unrelated to the start of the sentence!”

“Y/N!”

“Benedict!” Benedict whirled around and marched towards her. For a moment, Y/N thought he was going to yell at her or something alike. 

Instead, he held her face between his hands and kissed her on the lips. 

Y/N, completely stunned by the sudden change in emotion and the fact that Benedict Bridgerton was kissing her froze.

Benedict, noticing her attempt at being a statue, stopped kissing her and stepped back slightly. “I’m sorry that was... I’m sorry. I hope no one saw that -”

“Benedict -”

“If they have, I’ll happily -”

“Benedict -”

“I’m sure Anthony won’t mind -”

“Benedict!” Y/N yelled, grabbing his face between her hands and forcing him to look at her and be quiet. “Shut up.”

Before he could protest, Y/N stepped forward and kissed him on the lips. Her hand moved to the back of his head and she leant forward, kissing him with all the passion and intensity she had for him. 

Benedict broke away from her, panting slightly. “Y/N,” he whispered, resting his forehead against hers.

“Yes?”

“Anthony’s staring at us.”

Y/N spun around and, sure enough, Anthony was standing in the doorway to the ballroom, conveniently inspecting a flower bush.

“Anthony,” Y/N scolded, walking forward. “What are you doing?!”

“Ensuring my brother doesn’t ruin a lady’s reputation,” Anthony replied, his arms behind his back.

“For the thousandth time -”

“You are not a lady,” Benedict chimed in, walking up behind her and kissing her cheek. “We know.” 

Anthony smiled and offered his arm to her. “Well, I disagree. You are a lady to me, Miss Y/L/N. And, because of that, I’m now your chaperone.”

“Oh, you are, are you?” Y/N quipped, accepting his arm. “Does that mean Benedict has to ask your for permission?”

“I believe so,” Anthony replied. “And besides, I do believe a special license would make an excellent early wedding present for the two of you.”

I know that Slavic paganism was not consistent and there’s a lot we don’t know. However I was wondering about different spring gods. I’ve seen a few names thrown around. Vesna, Lada, Jarilo. I’ve read some about Jarilo already ( great post btw) but I’m wondering where Vesna and Lada fit into Slavic belief if at all?Thank you for your time ! P.S: are there any Russian specific deities? I was born in Russia and am trying to connect with my roots spiritually

I would like to start by disclaiming that this is a very complex question and as usual with Slavic paganism there is no easy answer. I’m sorry if the explanations provided below will not feel satisfactory.

First about Vesna: I couldn’t find any mentions of her in “Sources of Slavic Pre-Christian Religion” by J. A. Álvarez-Pedrosa, which is a collection of all known sources mentioning pre-Christian Slavic religion that are contemporary to it’s practice. Polish authors also stay silent about her. It seems to me like she doesn’t appear in many (perhpas any, I couldn’t say with certainty) sources even secondary ones and rituals connected ot her are not practiced in Poland. From what I heared about her the name Vesna appears in folk customs related to spring, practiced predominantly in Southern Slavic states but occasionally found in other coutnries too. However „vesna” and similar forms of this word also simply mean „spring” in many Slavic languages so I couldn’t say with any degree of confidence whether we are dealing with a deity or merely a personification of spring associated with particular folk holidays (the two aren’t always the same thing). I believe asking someone from a Southern Slavic country or a person specializing in practices of this region might yield more adequate reply.

Now onto Lada/Lado and here really starts my headache. The short answer is that we don’t know what’s up with them and opinions are strongly divided.

The long answer follows. The first mention of Lado that we have comes from “Gniezno Sermons”, written by Łukasz of Wielki Koźmin around 1405-1412. He believes Lada to be one of the idols still worshipped by common people during certain “indecent” folk festivities, he lists a couple of other names too, but not ones we know from earlier, pre-Christian sources. I believe few years later the same string of names is repeated in few other publications, untill finally Jan Długosz elaborates on it in his description of pagan Polish pantheon which I have spoken about in this post.

In “Annales seu Cronicae incliti Regni Poloniae” (1455) Długosz claims that Lada is local name for Roman god Mars, so very much a male deity. However in his writings on Polish heraldry “Insignia seu clenodia Regis et Regni Poloniae” (1464-1480) he states that Lada is a goddess which was worshipped in the region of Masovia. The writings of Długosz are repeated many times by later authors with small adjustments. In 1519 “Chronica Polonorum” Maciej Miechowita equates Lada with roman Leda, making the deity female. In mid 16th century Marcin Kromer names Lado as male but connects him with the traditional matchmaking and wedding songs. Around the same time Maciej Stryjkowski mentions goddess „Leda” mother of divine twins Lel and Polel which according to him are equivalent with Castor and Pollux. In 1578 Alessandro Guagnini, Veronese adventurer who emigrated to Poland publishes “Sarmatiae Europeae Descriptio” in which he plagiarizes large parts of Stryjkowski’s work. While he includes mentions of the worship of „Lada, Lel and Polel” he equates Lada with Pluto. This particular publication becomes quite popular in the West.

XVIIth century Ukrainian “Hustyn Chronicle” describes Lado as god of marital success and merriment and connects him with Hymen, Jove and Bacchus. Modern scholars highlight that while the Chronicle contains some older texts as well, the accounts about Lado were most likely inspired by the XVth century Polish writers, Kromer in particular. The second known eastern source, Gizel’s “Synopsis” is modeled after writings of Stryjkowski and names Lada as mother of Lel and Polel.

As for modern researchers, most Polish ones whose works I’ve read are very sceptical of Lada/Lado (Bruckner, Gieysztor, Słupecki, Strzelczyk, Urbańczyk). They consider Lada/Lado to be either a term of endearment meaning „beloved/ wife/ husband” or simply a linguistic misunderstanding of traditional Slavic wedding songs characterized by ululating, nonsensical refrains (Christian writers misconstruing folk tradition as invocation of pagan gods).

Kalik and Uchitel, authors of „Slavic gods and heroes” also strongly oppose historicity of Lada, following the wedding song theory. However it’s worth noting they are hyper-critical in their approach to all supposed Slavic deities, believing them to be artificial inserts rather than genuine divinities of pre-Christian Slavic origin.

The most ardent defenders of Lada as goddess of love/marriage seem to be Aleksander Faminstyn and Boris Rybakov. Croatian scholar Natko Nodilo connected Lada with the sun and the tradition of lazarice.

In “Russian Folk Belief” Ivanits refrains from making definite judgment on the case of Lada and merely points out that Lada remains „most mysterious”, citing Rybakov’s deep belief in her historicity and Kagarov’s total disbelief.

As you can see the issue is a complex one and as of now Lada lacks a clearly defined place in Slavic beliefs. If you wish to learn more on your own I believe you can find some more relevant names in this article - although it focuses on the role of Lada in Lithuanian culture it mentions quite a few Slavic sources as well. Unfortunately the article is in Russian, so if, like me, you are unfamiliar with the language you’ll have to google translate your way through it.

If you wish to get more information about the XV-XVI century sources I cited earlier (and many more) you should definitely check out “The gods of the Ancient Slavs”, available freely here.

I would say Jarilo and various related characters are best attested among the trio that you named. It’s quite possible that some form of Jarilo was honored by all three main groups of Slavs, although perhaps not by all tribes and certainly not in exactly the same way.

As for your question about Russian deities: if you are looking for gods and goddesses that are only found on the territory of present-day Russia and nowehere else I don’t know of any (which doesn’t mean they never existed of course). There are some names that appear in Eastern sources but are of doubtful historical authenticity. I’d say your best bet is turning to what we understand as „Eastern Slavic” deities such as Dazhbog, Khors, Mokosh, Stribog, Simargl, perhaps also Svarog (Perun and Veles are believed to have been worshipped among many groups of Slavs even though they are only named as such in Eastern Slavic primary sources). “The gods of Ancient Slavs” linked earlier in the post will provide you with quotes from primary and secondary sources useful for further research.

Beryl has always had a rather strange personality and an unhealthy obsession with alcohol. A few years after giving birth to Thalia and Jason Grace respectively, her liver gave way and she died before they could find a solution.

As the eldest son of the three brothers, Hades was betrothed and wed to his childhood best friend Persephone Terrafield by their fathers in an attempt at a business partnership (Spoiler Alert: It didn’t work out in end). Admittedly, Hades and Persephone did have a small infatuation with each other when they were younger, but it never grew into anything serious, and as they grew older he saw her as more of a sibling than a lover and vice versa. After the inevitable death of his father, Hades and Persephone divorced but literally nothing in their relationship changed since they’d never loved each other romantically in the first place. When Hades decided to court their mutual friend, Italian diplomat Maria di Angelo, Persephone supported both of them wholeheartedly. In the span of the seventeen years they were together, Maria gave Hades two beautiful children, Bianca and Nico. Unfortunately, Maria passed away after being on life support for two years in result of a plane crash when Nico was 6. 

In the two years when Maria was hospitalized, Hades was so desperate to find his beloved a cure that he sought out a witch doctor that was rumoured to be in New Orleans. Marie Levesque, the aforementioned witch, was a greedy, manipulative person with a deluded and unstable mind, who drugged Hades and essentially raped him because she thought his spawn would have the perfect blood for experimenting magic on. She used magic to wipe his memory of the previous night’s events and handed him an ‘antidote’ that was actually just water dyed a milky white. After ten years, Marie finally revealed to Hades a 12-year-old Hazel, who looked miserable, was suffering from malnutrition, wounds, burns etc. and had a supernatural ability which Marie proudly said she had bestowed to her via dark magic. Hades was absolutely mortified, revolted and a bunch of other things. He filed a lawsuit against Marie, charging her for rape, child neglect, child abuse and human experimentation, as well as taking permanent custody over Hazel Levesque (now Hazel Olympia). 

Persephone Terrafield

CEO of jewelry enterprise The Red Pomegranate which was a sub-branch of Pluto Corps. The enterprise has the highest production rate in the US. 

Self-designated matchmaker for Hades (Hades always tells her she should focus on her own love life first, but he’s just an ungrateful brat)

Current life goal is to fulfill Maria di Angelo’s dying wish: help Hades find love again. (Mission status: still at Square 1 because Hades has some trust issues after the Levesque Incident)

The kids all call her ‘Aunt Seph’, but she loves the children as though they were her own

She and Hades often joke that they would totally still be married if they didn’t see each other as siblings and platonic soulmates and she hadn’t had her sexual awakening of being lesbian.

She lives with Hades and the children as she finds it too much of a hassle to move into her own place, not to mention lonely (with the kids at school and doing club activities, someone needs to make sure Hades gets exposure to the sun anyway).

Persephone is the daughter of an unnamed businessman and Demeter Terrafield, an agricultural revolutionist and healthy-cereal-obssessed woman.

Her mother and Hades have this sort of weird rivalry going on whenever Demeter visits; Demeter hates Hades because he hates healthy cereal, and apparently anyone who hates healthy cereal isn’t good enough to be hanging around her daughter, so she always replaces all his coffee with decaf and puts the healthiest cereal she can find on his bedside table every morning; in retaliation, Hades will deliberately eat the most sugary sweets he can find in front of her and locks her out of their personal greenhouse. (The glass walls are made of the strongest glass he could find and the door is locked by multiple manual and digital locks.)

Knits a lot. Most of her carpets, quilts, bags, scarves etc. are handmade.

She looks relatively innocent, but don't be fooled. There's a hidden arsonist in her that is always ready to come out when she's angry.

Hestia has a 'I'm not mad, just extremely disappointed and upset' Mom Look that has sent people bawling their eyes out and begging for her forgiveness with just one glance

She is the oldest of the Olympia siblings, but as a child had a frail and weak body. Kronos wanted to get rid of her since she was 'useless and couldn't be wed off', but Rhea, their mother, begged and pleaded Kronos to let her live. For some unknown reason, Kronos complied.

Too Many WIPs

And while I’ve been ignoring a lot of Tumblr games lately, apparently I’m absolutely weak for getting the chance to talk about my projects. And since, most of these haven’t seen the light of day... I was really excited! 

Published WIPs: Craving for Chocolate Milkshakes (Sailor Moon) - A romantic comedy. Usamamo mind reading trope. It’s ONE chapter away from completion, and that one chapter is 80% there, and just refuses to be fleshed out. But seriously, WHY IS THIS ONE NOT ALREADY DONE?! Restorative Justice - (Miraculous Ladybug) - A Chloé redemption story where she decides to heal the rifts between Ladybug and Chat Noir that have been caused by them not knowing each other’s identities. Pulls heavily from my experience as a teacher trained in restorative justice practices. This story is surprisingly easy to work on at the moment. It’s the only one that cooperates with me! It’s currently got a five chapter outline. Chapter three is mostly done. Just needs to be fleshed out so it’s more than talking heads in a white room. (Dialogue always comes easily to me. The rest of it is hard!) Coming of Age (Sailor Moon) - Loosely based on the Black Moon arc. Neo Queen Serenity has been mortally wounded, and can only be healed by the silver crystal. But no one is old enough to use it! So in a desperate move Chibiusa is sent back in time to be raised by her parents. Not that she knows that they’re her parents. This one hasn’t been updated in a year. I blame fic exchanges (that are all completed now!). But I’m really excited about this next chapter. Like stoked! Invisible Wounds (Sailor Moon) - An AmiZoi medical/senshi drama. Pulls really closely from my personal life as a parent. I also haven’t published an update for this one in like a year. But the next chapter is really close! (I keep saying that! Is it true?)

UnPublished WIPs: Aftermath (Miraculous Ladybug) - Multi chapter dealing with the Aftermath of a Hawkmoth unveiling and defeat. Pre-reveal. Lots of mental health stuff. A story about healing. Chapter one is close. I’m surprised it’s not out yet. Celebrity Status (Miraculous Ladybug) - A multi chapter Ladrien story. Ladybug goes to Adrien for advice about dealing with being famous. They understand one another’s struggles more than they did before. And end up super close! First chapter is close-ish. It’s got like a ten chapter outline. I was originally trying to post it this past June for Ladrien June, but got distracted by other projects and haven’t gone back to it yet. Maybe I’ll shoot to get it out next June. Yin and Yang (Miraculous Ladybug) - I haven’t done all the ridiculous tropes yet. Here I’m playing with a body swap of Adrien and Marinette. It has a similar feel and tone as Chocolate Milkshakes. I’m really having too much fun with it. No where close to seeing the light of day.   Matchmaker (Sailor Moon) - When the future utopia is destroyed, Pluto manages to protect Chibiusa from the timeline changes and sends her back in time to fix whatever prevented her parents from meeting and getting together. It’s much harder than the girl anticipates. Mostly exists as two initial opening scenes and then just snippets of Chibiusa getting frustrated with her parents who won’t stop being mean to each other.  Motherhood part 4 & 5 (Do those even count as titles? They’ll have titles eventually!). These are Sailor Moon Reveals (sort’ve!) In part 4, Usagi realizes her mother knows and has known for awhile. They get to talk. In part five, Kenji figures it out and has a fight with Ikuko because she kept it from him. I have these outlined blow by blow but haven’t gotten them to fall into place yet. A Bad Day (Ladybug Reveal) - Marinette is having a really bad day. Like akuma worthy bad. And she is just now realizing how strategically horrible that is. This one is SO CLOSE to being done. I don’t know why it isn’t.  Infidelity (Ladybug Reveal) - Established Adrinette relationship pre-reveal. Adrien and Marinette get into fights because the other one is lying all the time about where they are. Ladybug and Chat Noir confide in each other about their relationship woes and give each other wonderful advice that help Adrien and Marinette learn to actually communicate with each other!  A Letter to my Teenage Self (Ladybug oneshot) - Adult Ladybug full of regret gets thrown back in time with an opportunity to change things, but in talking to her younger self Ladybug finds herself amazed by the young girl before her, and doesn’t want to change a thing about her. This one is just starting to take form. Idea was given to me from my Discord peeps after they asked me what advice I had for my teenage self! Always Enough (Ladybug) - An Adrino story I started like a week ago. I was trying to expand my repertoire by challenging myself to do a non canon relationship. And I love Nino to death and he doesn’t get enough attention. And Adrien is me, so.... I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that 4.5k words in, this became far more autobiographical than I had ever intended. 

And honestly, there’s like ten other stories that have been started. But I don’t currently have any active intention of working on them in the near future, so I’ll spare you. And who knows if I will publish all of these either. When I’m stressed, I am not as disciplined about what I’m working on. I just work on what comes. This is not conducive to finishing things, but it is conducive to my mental health.
