“Are you seriously still mad at me? It wasn’t just me!”

“Yeah a grieving mother and a fucking ex-tyrant. The perfect team with little miss flight risk”

“I’m your fucking sister and you talk to me like that?!”

“Merle called you way worse!” Daryl snaps as he couldn’t believe he agreed to go on a run with his sister when he hasn’t completely wrapped his head around everything that had happened. The end of the Whispers war and the Reapers.

“At least I didn’t sleep with a fucking pyromaniac’s bitch”

“Hey!” He shoved Y/N to have her get the idea she went too far. But she wasn’t done.

“Seriously. You’re going to be mad about risking my life to save our fucking family when you rolled over on your back for a woman you fucked once in a cabin in the middle of nowhere just to get “inside it all” only for her and her own bitch to escape Maggie’s revenge. They’ve killed a good chunk of her people, Daryl!”

Daryl quickly whipped toward his sister dropping his crossbow and grabbing her by the jacket.

“At least Henry never my goddamn fucking sight long enough for him to get killed” He did it. He needed the last word and the last nerve wasn’t just struck but burned causing Y/N to instantly force him off storming off.

Then what happened next was a blur. Which led them here…

Bounded to wooden chairs and Daryl was the first to wake feeling his mouth was duct taped shut. If only he had duct tape during this risky trips with his bike, it is an easy fix type tool. But that didn’t matter in the moment as he tried to get a better look of his surroundings.

The place wasn’t familiar and once he understood that he quickly glance to his sister noticing the blood pooling from her temple. He didn’t know how long she’s been like such and the panic started to pool inside of him as he tried to make any form of noise to get his sister to react.

But it got someone with a familiar, enraged tone to emerge from the shadows showing the injured Reaper Brandon that had it out for the archer when his idiotic fallen group took him in.

“You weren’t easy to settle down. She definitely was” He laughs lightly as he with all his force kicked the chair she was bounded to watching her quickly sit up.

Y/N had a cut dangerously close to her left eye and it was swollen shut with that side of her face bruised as well. She had to be “put down” in order to be tied up. One can only imagine what they did to Daryl. She didn’t say anything when she rose her head given the pain and she thought if she tried to protest that the gun in the man’s hand would be used on them.

“You pinned my brothers and sister against each other back at our home. Killed big man and that bitch that got away really should’ve been in what…this your sister right?” Brandon grabbed her shoulders from behind her seat watching Daryl tense. “In her place. But you know…pinning siblings on one another make for better entertainment”

Daryl couldn’t say anything but with the way his expression almost always matched his emotions. At least in a way only another Dixon can read. Y/N turned her head toward the man she didn’t know when he rounded back toward her brother.

“What do you want with us? Your family’s gone”

“Yeah…so I need one of you to be” Brandon drops the gun he held onto the table in front of them watching them flinch at first. “There’s one bullet. I think you understand the rules if you’ve lived long enough”

Russian Roulette.

“You know he’ll just aim it at himself” Y/N scoffs spitting a bit of blood onto the table causing the worry and anxiety to build even higher inside her older brother. “Too selfless…”

“Yeah, but I heard y’all’s little squabble in the woods…he may still do what you say. But what are you going to do?” He smirks pushing the gun toward Y/N and taking out his knife threatening to kill Daryl if she didn’t pick it up. But once she did he didn’t retract knowing she would aim at him if he wasn’t going to keep a short leash on the situation.

“Judith gave yea Rick’s gun?”

“Until she’s ready”

“You know how to shoot a colt?”

“I think I can handle a revolver” Y/N laughs holstering it. “We are the only ones besides Negan that have used anything other than a gun. Thought she’d trust you with it more than me”

“You know Rick liked yea. It would’ve been you or Michonne holding that. Both of y’all’s mains not being a gun”

“Michonne is badass with a katana. I’m just a wannabe track and field star with an old javelin”

“So what I’m hearing is you want me to teach you how to use it”

I wish you didn’t Y/N frowns holding the gun in her hand watching Brandon grab her brother by the hair forcing his head back and bringing his knife to his jugular if she didn’t take aim.

The second she aimed it at Daryl, Brandon backed off knowing she was pissed about their argument and finally putting a permanent end to such.

“Life or death, Dixon”

“I choose life, Merle” Y/N rolls her eyes at her eldest brother as they were on the roof he was currently chained on. She decided not to leave him as she watched the vehicles that got the others out flee the city to their camp.

“You chose death here, pumpkin. By staying with me while the walkers flood the building and gain a sense that there’s fresh meat on the roof. You’ve always risked your life”

“For my family.”

“So what are you going to do”

Choose my family. Y/N gripped the handle on the gun, clicking it to load or not load the bullet and right as her finger rested on the trigger.

The two froze watching her quickly aim it to her temple and Daryl fought against the restraints while Brandon stood a bit in shock that she would do such even from what her brother said that he didn’t entirely understand.

Then the gun fired

A thud met the floor

And silence grew in the room causing Daryl to hyperventilate filling the emptiness as he had shut his eyes when he heard the gun fire not wanting to open them.

“You seriously think you’re going to end up alone?” Carol accused Daryl after he had told her about this Leah woman. “As much as not everybody finds a romantic soulmate. There are platonic ones out there”

“I’ve been accused by Y/N that Rick was mine. So I really am gonna end up alone”

“Seriously? Did you forget about the other name in that sentence? Let alone forget that I’m right fucking here?” Carol laughed at such receiving a confused look from her friend. “You still have a family, Daryl. And as much as the world pushed both Dixons into the earth to show them a piece of its mind…Y/N ain’t going anywhere. It will take a real nuclear ending for her to say goodbye to her life. She’s never leaving you, Daryl Dixon”

She’s your blood Daryl felt tears spring in his eyes as his body flinched to the couch of a comforting hand that when he opened his eyes he was met with Rosita’s worry filled expression.

“Aaron told us about his crazy experience being…sort of kidnapped. When you and Y/N didn’t come back when you did…we had to make sure you were alright” She states carefully taking the duct tape off as Daryl quickly whipped his attention to his sister getting cut out of her restraints by Aaron while she also set the gun she held on the table.

The gun was freshly fired. But her end wasn’t met.

Rosita had taken out Brandon and that was the gun fire that out sounded the fire that Y/N triggered. But again, her luck in russian roulette was there this time around.

“You need help standing?” Aaron asked as Y/N shook her head giving out a soft ‘thank you though’ when he went to check their surroundings outside.

The moment Y/N rose to her feet, Daryl brought himself over taking her into his arms caging her a bit. She kept herself cemented at first trying to keep up her front when Daryl has already cracked after what happened. It wasn’t until Rosita gave her a look that led her to give the Dixon siblings a moment of privacy as Y/N sobbed softly the second she left and latched onto her brother.

“You could’ve died…” Daryl stated as the group started their journey back to Alexandria. Y/N just shrugged at him. “Seriously?”

“What? If it was Merle, I wouldn’t hesitate to shoot his bitchass.”

“‘M just glad yea didn’t eat a bullet” Daryl wrapped his arm around her shoulders as she opened the barrel and started laughing like an idiot.

“Bro I would’ve met fucking Merle in hell” Y/N showed him the next shot was the bullet as Daryl instantly swiped the weapon from her. “Hey! Imma need that”

“Nah stick to your sharpened stick shit. Shouldn’t have trusted yea with drugs when you were six. Ain’t trusting yea with a gun now”

“I didn’t take the drugs!”

“Whatever”

“So , is Wells single?” Kirby asked a smirking Cordelia.

"Very single , Im glad to have another girl around , gets a bit annoying , place full of guys." Cordelia said as Kirby chuckled.

"I really hope we don't have to kill you." She finished.

"That got dark fast." Kirby stated.

"Any family?" Cordelia asked.

"My Father Hershal , Twin sister Maggie , And My little sister Beth , she's around 18 now , Ray of sunshine that one , amazing singing voice , Maggie , last I remember she fell for one of the boys from Raul and Half-life's orignial group , Those two were pretty close with this redneck , then This guy shane happened , some of our family got killed , shane got killed , The farm burned , it was all bad , got seperated , ran into those two , been like this ever since , You? , You have any family , and You and Carver seem like an Interesting match?" Kirby said to her.

"An Older sister , Leah , got seperated around 9 months ago , With my Nephew matthew , and our dog viola , The horde wrecked our old base , Me and Carver met in a foster home , he proposed at Sixteen , got married , lost our baby a few months before the apocolypse , Stuff happend , now we're here." Cordelia said to her , as Kirby's eyes softened at the mention of the baby.

"But enough of that , a little birdy told me about You and Raul , shacking up." Cordelia laughed as Kirby went red , the two reacing the boys .

"What's got you so red in the face." Half-life Asked .

"Shut it ." Kirby said in a grumble.

"Any family?" Cordelia asked.

"A Sister , died a year before the apocolypse , she was real sick , glad she didn't see what the world became." Half -life said.

"Sorry for your loss , You Raul?" Cordelia asked.

"Nah , Just Half-life and Me , Had a fiancé , but we broke it off." Raul said.

"Look were here!" Cordelia said.

"Open the gate!" Carver yelled up to a masked Bossie.

"Creepy." Kirby said.

"You get used to it , if you pass the test , You might get a mask of your own." Wells winked.

"Well I would like that very much." Kirby said stroking his arm.

Raul looked towards the opening gate , clenching his jaw.

Half-life elbowed him raising a brow.

The reapers gathered around.

"Welcome to the Reapers , This is our main group , Ancheta , Austin , Bossie , who will walk in on you at the worst times , Jenson , Deaver , Boone , Ira Washington , Fisher , Nicholls , Michael Turner , Montanio , Mancea , and Marcus Powell , And the man that has fury on his face currently stomping over to us is Pope , our leader." Cordelia said , The men wary.

"Cordelia what is this." Pope demanded.

"It was just them , we made sure we weren't followed , and they would be amazing assets." Cordelia said , her tone strong and commanding.

"You! , you served?" Pope said , noticing Half-life's dog tags.

"12 years as a sniper." Half-life said with a nod and slight glare.

Pope nodded at Cordelia and Then to Wells and Carver who went with him.

"Should we be worried?" Raul questioned.

"Yes , very worried , watch your Backs." Cordelia said as Bossie walked over.

"Doc there's a rash on my-" He started untill she cut him off.

"No I will not look at the rash on your ass Bossie , now shoo ." She said waving him away , the man glared at the three outsiders , before Pouting at Cordelia walking away.

"They listen to you." Half-life stated.

"Pope may lead , but I reign." Cordelia stated.

The four were getting food ready for the fire , Cordelia let out a scream as She was pulled out of the small shack , Kirby trying to reach for her , but was too late.

Carver and Wells stood , Carver holding his wife gently , Letting her know it was just him.

"Jesus! , Brandon you gave me a heart attack." Cordelia said slapping his chest.

"The test is happening , Pope was gonna have you stay inside , But I wasn't gonna risk it , If you got hurt , I would kill sombody." He said as Cordelia kissed his hand , Wells pouring gasoline on the shack , lighting a match.

"I hope they pass , They would be great assets , Raul is great with his bow , Half-life is a professional sniper , And Kirby Knows alot about Plants and Natural Medicine." Cordelia whispered to Carver , who had his arms around her.

"I know baby." He whispered kissing her head.

Glass from a window shattered , Half-life crashing through , Reaching back in he pulled out a coughing Kirby , Who got back on her feet and helping Half-life pull out Raul.

The three staring at the reapers .

"Fortitudo Saludis!" The Reapers exclaimed.

"Im glad your alive." Cordelia said rushing over to Kirby , Handing the three water bottles.

"Glad we Survived." Kirby said resting her head on Raul's shoulder , Who tensed , rolling his eyes at Half-life's smirk.

"Welcome to the reapers." Cordelia said.

"segadores rebeldes , rogue reapers , or los segadores se rebelan , the reapers rebels , has a good tone to it." Raul said .

"Your right i does , now lets eat." Cordelia said grabbing Kirby's hand , the two laughing as they left behind the boys , Passing Carver , who smiled at his wife's happiness.

Everything wrong with Spanish Princess-1x05

No bethrohal between Henry VII and Catherine of Aragon ever took place. And Isabella certainly wasn’t for it! So untrue! 

Catherine prays in chapel?! which has dirt instead of tiles?! That would not happen. Even in poor churches, people at least had stone! If not fancy tiles. 

Henry VIII and Henry VII never argued about this non-existent bethrohal, because it didn’t happen. And because Henry VIII wasn’t such brat!

What is Wolsey doing at court? He shouldn’t be there yet.

 Timelines are all over the place. Maggy left at 27th June 1503, the formal bethrohal between Catherine and Henry VIII actually happened even before that! On 23th June 1503.

So by the time Maggy leaves, Henry VIII and Catherine should have been offically bethrohed. Instead they bethrohe her to Henry VII-false plotline entirely. 

Marriages of Lina and Rosa. Charles Brandon for Lina and Duke of Rochester or baron Eresby for Rosa. There was no Duke of Rochester! The title was first created in 17th century! Same with earl of Rochester! Baron didn’t exist until 20th century. This is fictional title.

At the time there were no dukes except Buckingham in England. (Because de la Pole was stripped of his titles and proclaimed traitor, he also previously surrended the duchy and instead was granted earldom of Lincoln.)

At those times, no courtier could marry without permission of crown, and having main say in matches was not common practise at all. In England and in Spain. In real life one of Catherine’s ladies married commoner and without permission, and Catherine refused to have her back in her household, after she became Queen!

(So entire plotline of Lina marrying commoner and staying as Queen’s lady is false!)

It was big no, no to think you can marry for love and have your own choice. 

‘Loyal men within my house’ is poor writing. Lady Margaret should have said eitehr ‘Within my household’ or ‘Among loyal subjects at court’.

Her own house would refer to either house of Tudor, or Beaufort.

Alliance was not preserved in 1503, as they set marriage between Henry VIII and Catherine for year 1505(when he turned 14), hence Catehrine’s ladies weren’t getting married nor bethrohed prior.

Lady Margaret eating with her bare hands? She was noble lady, with table-manners. Which at that time mattered a lot.

As did virginity. Only honourable widows were allowed to be remarry without being virgin-at least such was the case at court. So lady Margaret not making deal out of Rosa vomiting is certainly not how it’d go in real life.

In scene, Catherine is getting portrait-but it is not the right one. Neither of 3 famous portraits of Catherine by Sittow made the cut, as they couldn’t be bothered to recreate it. 

Lina proclaiming her love to Ovieto. Catherine doesn’t believe her mother was ok with people being persecuted for faith. Once again, it seems like person who grew up in Spain was not aware what was happening there religion wise.

(And more I won’t dive to it, as I know it is subject up for heated debate). 

Henry VIII wasn’t plotting against his father. And i don’t get why he’d speak in such words about Isabella-as if she truly was warrior Queen. 

(Why not give woman credit for what she actually did?!)

Maggy is surprised to see James IV is just 30! And rather good looking. This is so weird! She’d know!

Henry VIII wouldn’t be allowed at council, as he was child still. He was confined to his studies etc.He’d not be rude to his father’s council. Nor would his father would belittle him and shout at his son. They weren’t at feud.

Harry walking away full of smug, instead of trying to catch man who tried to proclaim himself true King of England?! Even as kid he’d not be so stupid.

Yes, Henry VIII wanted to be loved as King, but he’d not go on his father’s nerves like this. He’d never dare.

Lina goes to brothel to get something to abort Rosa’s baby. Alone, during night.

 WTF. Harry is getting drunk with his pals and he and his grandmother are at odds, until she gives him girls to fuck. Which is totally not what would have happened, and certainly not in 1503, when he was just 12. 

Henry VIII would never fought his father over Catherine. They were father and son, for God’s sake!

TSP Catherine manipulates Henry. Continuation of love-letters plotline-which is false. 

Isabella in armour-so false. Catherine in armour-so false!

Catherine traveling to lady Pole-so false. Dona Elvira would never allow it!

Lady Margaret villain and mean to lady Pole, again. In real life her suffering had nothing to do with lady Margaret.

Catherine manipulating Lina with promise of gold-after she made her lie and damn her soul, she pretends to be good friend to her, says they’d be like sisters. (they truly make her into Jezabel, don’t they?)

Dona Elvira would throw her lady out of Princess’ household and sent them back to Spain, had any girl in her care became pregnant. 

Infanta opening her doors in Durham herself. While she had 50+ people with her in real life.

Isabella agreeing to match with Henry VII-which she did not in real life. 

It is also wrong that Catherine would have no chance of becoming Queen if she didn’t become English Queen. She could stil marry future king of Denmark(but as it was elective monarchy it wasn’t great match tbh). 

Son of Juana was born in Spain in March 1503. What is up with these timelines?! Juana was also strawberry blond with slightly wavy, but not curly hair and wasn’t insane as they imply- imo she was chronically depressed not insane. Also not being zealous doesn’t make you an atheist. 

Catherine’s hairdo and Henry’s cloak in their secret meeting is so not Tudor period. As are not the hairstyles, headwears and all the costumes. And only accurate hair colour of main cast is that of old people and Henry VIII. Even Arthur’s haircut was too short for those days. 

Oh longbows!!! But they shoot as if they were from continent! Drawing it, not leaning into it. That is actually very inaccurate portrayal, though not many people will catch upon it.  But lovers of historical archery should be aware.

So Lina talks to black man called John, whom we previously seen with musical instrument. If this was attempt at John Blanke it is not very good one, because it ignores most of what we know of him.  In episode 2 they basically had Lina face racial behaviour, being called exotic maid and overall she seemed discriminated, and people looked at her strangely as if they’ve seen black person for first time.

And we know that there was discrimination in Tudor court. But still they managed to grossly misrepresent it. Among those few records we have of John Blanke’s life, is record of him in 1507 petitioning Henry VII to have same wage as other troubadors/musicians?, stating he had been doing same job as them. So he was being discriminated! BUT the King had granted the request! King has recognized it was unfair! They really grossly misrepresent racism in Tudor court and later in England. (season 2)

Also, John Blanke might have not arrived with Catherine. Might have not been part of her household at all!

And had he been part of court(in various positions) since 1488, would English in 1500s still find somebody of dark skin so interesting? Maybe newcomers to the court, but mostly no! They’d be used to it. Ok, some men are into girls with exotic looks, but I still think Spanish Princess did not give justice to black characters. So that plotline in episode 2 regarding Lina is false too.

Also real John Blanke clearly stood up for himself, stood up against discrimination! In 1507!!! And they made him into person which merely relays information between two fictional loverbirds. That is not giving him justice. (As I mentioned Ovieto was no crossbowman and Catalina of Motril was black and also slave. She was not Catalina de Cardones, a noblewoman. So yes, these are fictional lovebirds.) And if he was part of English court since 1488, then actor chosen for the role was certainly way too young! 

Henry VII recalls his proposal and has Catherine bethrohed to his son. False!

But him insisting they’re to be wed only after dowry is sent is correct.(though actually it said 10 days before or after solemnization of marriage-which would happen when Henry VIII turned 14, at least in offiacial bethrohal) however it wasn’t just Isabella’s duties to pay it.

And i know some of you are convinced that bethrohal agreement specified that Castile paid rest of dowry. The translated coreespondence of spain and England doesn’t specifies who would pay it until 1506-when Ferdinand says it was Crown of Castile’s matter. Now it might be that previous correspondence wasn’t translated correctly or that since it is mere sumarry, that this detail got left out). But it is also possible that it is merely Ferdinand’s version of the events that he wasn’t supposed to pay the dowry. (Please keep the comments polite about this one also.)

Poles weren’t empowerish before Richard Pole died and  i don’t get how Margaret Pole could have such horrible jointure settlement as to have no income, nor her children any, in real life. (She was legally entitled to 1/3 of her husband’s lands). Despite having some lands. It makes no sense tbh. It’s fishy and I don’t believe her dowager years occured as it is presented. 

(And given lady Pole’s plotlines are based upon another book by Philipa Gregory, I trust it even less.)

Yes, last years of Henry VII’s reign were grim and many people were mistreated as Henry VII started to loose grip, and got more easily influenced by some. 

However he was giving big fines to his nobles even prior, and he certainly managed to solve the bad financial situation long before Catherine’s arrival to England. Spanish Princess makes it habit to mislead us about finances of Henry VII. Or rather to straight out lie to us about it.

Hey, I'm wondering if you have any good recommendations for books, movies or series? I followed you for soc and you seem to have a lot of other interesting fandoms and interests.

I like fantasy, but I don't want the world to be too different from our world. I like mysteries and paranormal stuff mostly but I can't seem to find any good ones lately. More realistic ones are good and I think that I need to read or watch more stuff like that.

I prefer if it has some of my favourite tropes like found family. Not too much romance or anything else.I read mainly YA but I really need to expand my taste more. I prefer series to be quite long but still bingeable. Movies are always good.

If you want to help me then that would be wonderful and I want to say thank you even before you answer.

Hello! I'd LOVE to give you some recommendations! I went through my goodreads and my own bookshelves to see what I have that match your interests and have compiled the following list!

Books/Series:

The Amelia Peabody mysteries by Elizabeth Peters: these are my most favorite books by my most favorite author. They're historical fiction/mysteries set in the 1880s to the 1920s Egypt. There are 20 books in the series. They're fantastic if you want a brilliant main character who is sassy, fun, smart, and crazy intelligent. There is some romance peppered in throughout, but this is extremely well done and isn't the main point of the books. Nothing explicit in the least either. Along the way more characters are introduced and become part of the found family trope. This series was started in the late 1970s. I highly recommend all of Elizabeth Peters' books, as well as those under her other pen name, Barbara Michaels. The first book in the Amelia mysteries is called Crocodile on the Sandbank. Not YA.

The Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs: I'm a couple books behind in this paranormal/suburban fantasy series, but love it so much. There are currently around 11 books or so. Again, there is some romance, but the mysteries and supernatural elements are at the foreground. Werewolves, shapeshifters, vampires, the fae, and more feature. Mercy is a certified badass mechanic and coyote shapeshifter. First book is called Moon Called. Not YA.

The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater. Now these you probably know and have possibly already read. Supernatural/paranormal YA series heavily featuring the found family trope. Beautiful and weird and just delicious. These books, for me at least, are more about the characters than the plot. First books is The Raven Boys.

The Constellation Trilogy by Claudia Gray: YA sci-fi! I'm not big on sci-fi but this wonderful trilogy is a fantastic way to dip your toe into the genre. It has one of my favorite characters I've come across in recent years, Abel Mansfield. He is the most darling, socially awkward Android you'll ever meet. First book is called Defy the Stars.

The Flavia de Luce series by Alan Bradley. This isn't YA but the main character is an 11 year old chemistry prodigy. She's fun and whip smart and has a nose for solving murder cases much to the local Inspector's chagrin. I think there are 9 or 10 in this series so far. The first is called The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie

The Strange the Dreamer duology by Laini Taylor. Exquisite. Just gorgeous. The books read like a dream. Fantasy but not too fantasy. I'd consider these on the cusp of YA and whatever is above YA. The characters are in their mid to late teens, but it's a bit like SoC where the writing lends itself to an older audience. The first is Strange the Dreamer.

The Red Rising Saga by Pierce Brown. This is also a YA leaning more toward adult. Loosely I'd describe the first book, Red Rising, as Hunger Games on Mars. I've only read the first 3 books, but UGH the characters. UGH the action. Definitely has Found Family going on in it. If memory serves it can be a little graphic in the action and violence but isn't the worst I've ever read. More sci-fi that isn't too sci-fi.

Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson. Okay so here is where I deviate. This is higher fantasy than what I've recommended thus far. It's sprawling world building at its finest. That being said, it's still really humans, just on a different world where the plant and animal life is different. These are very long books, but just phenomenal. The cast of characters are incredible, the plots engaging. If you want to read this series, give it the time it deserves. Ive only read the first 2, and there are 4 currently. Sanderson has tons of other books and series that take place in the same universe, if I'm not mistaken, but I've only read the Stormlight Archive books so far. The first one is called The Way of Kings.

The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. Same disclaimer as the last one. More high fantasy. Tbh, I havent read these in a long, long time, but very much enjoyed them. A bit more complex as far as the magic, but the plot and characters are amazing so I wanted to mention them. First one is called The Name of the Wind and there are only 2 so far.

Shows:

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries (on acorn TV and possibly bbca): 3 seasons of utter delight. Fun and flirty and moving. Takes place in the 1930s I believe, in Australia. Follows Phryne Fisher as she bursts her way into solving murders much to Inspector Jack Robinson's dismay. These two are AMAZING partners, no matter how reluctant. This is also a book series, but I haven't read them and have actually heard many people say they prefer the show

Lucifer (on Netflix.): I'm behind and I'm upset that I'm behind. Follows one cheeky devil as he assists a reluctant Detective Chloe Decker solve crimes (I am starting to see a theme in my own interests 😆). Funny but so emotionally moving as Lucifer navigates his way through his own humanity

Prodigal Son. Season 2 starts in January. It airs on Fox so I'm not sure off the top of my head where you can find season 1 readily available. Highly recommend. Follows Malcolm Bright, a serial killer Profiler for the NYPD. His father is a very famous serial killer, and he often gets tips from dear old dad to aid in his cases. Malcolm has tons of ptsd and trauma to work through, so the show touches upon these themes heavily.

Movies:

To be perfectly honest, I'm not a movie expert of any kind. I just watch what looks interesting to me. But my all time favorite movies are the 1999/2000 The Mummy and The Mummy Returns with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. Just pure joy when I watch. Fun and so very quotable.

I also adore the Thin Man series from the 40s starring William Powell and Myrna Loy. Those 2 are absolutely relationship goals. So fun and sassy. A husband and wife crime solving team with a sassy dog named Asta.

Episode 3: GOOD Grief! (we finally have a good episode on our hands)

To all those of you keen enough to have come back for another segment of ‘what hasn’t already been said: TSP’, as opposed to have just been scrolling when you see this - welcome back! (Scrollers you too <3)

To anyone who’s seeing this for the first time: what this is a list of observations, jokes, reactions and criticism which occur to me upon a rewatch. I wait every week until Saturday to do this so that I have had my fill of scrolling through the tag and aggregating what has already been said. I tried doing a whole spoof (here where I gave up 10% in) but tbh a) I don’t know the history well enough b) it’s more time consuming than I thought and c) this series is just not as funny or as crazy as TWQ, so it’s untenable. Having said that: This is not a hatepost. I’m not hatewatching this series and nitpicking on purpose but expressing my honest views and trying to find the good in it as well as the bad.

Without further ado...

First Scenes: 

LMAO the way Wolsey suggests they break their alliance with Spain is freaking hilarious because the actor delivers the lines as if he were a high school girl making a personal attack by suggesting the prom change its theme to 70s disco to the chagrin of the peppy up-and-coming rival.

Also @ Henry VIII looking like the peppy up-and-comer’s bff and shy stan with that pencil bite and small smirk when Catherine loses her cool against Wolsey.

I’m sorry... who is Henry married to again?

Also what is Margaret Pole doing at the council meeting?? I’m not saying I don’t like it.

Attempted Naked Twister:

Oh Catherine, what is with you and all the other STARZ protagonists and that weird politcky bedroom talk? Who actually finds this sexy?

‘Catherine you are unnatural’ ooof that line delivery was somehow haunting.

Was the whole ‘I can’t be rushed you are off-putting with your overpowering’ a callback to Arthur and Catherine? Apparently there’s another writer for this episode so I won’t put all subtly past them. 

Scotland:

Look I’m tired of all this ‘my children won’t be safe’ line getting repeated. Look mate, murder of royal infants and children was not exactly a common occurence, even in cases of deposition. The Princes in the Tower are an exception to this but a very infamous case for that reason. Child murder was extremely taboo. In situations like this with an infant kid, no one is going to bother murdering the babies and taking their thrones, the lords will just vie for power and make themselves de facto rulers and oust the queen. It’s not a question of safety but a question of holding power. Stop giving all women characters perma mummy brains.

Maggie being all caring:

‘Barnaby’ *scoffs* ‘Such an English name’ - OH MAN 0_0 is Catherine mocking them for trying to adapt ? Like I know it’s meant to show her envy for Lina, but it’s coming out all messed up.

Our girl Maggie’s smile screams I’m beating your ass in chess.

Anyhow this is the least histrionic we’ve seen Catherine so far.

Chaplain vs Catherine:

I’m interested how Catherine will feel at Stafford’s execution given that I have noticed this show build up to a friendship between them.

Why is everyone laughing at the whole ‘will you delight us with new schemes’ line was not that funny?

LMAO at Thomas Boleyn’s attempted brown-nosing. 

You know what? Ruairi is a decent actor. When he says ‘so you admit it? you lost the child because you tried to be a man?” the actor conveys Henry’s troubled mind, lowkey scare towards Catherine and bewilderment all in one. The way his eyes do not move but just widen emotionlessly also gives this sense that he is being manipulated (which I guess they are going for with Wolsey). Then the whole choir music in the background.. I don’t know.. I’m liking this, it’s creating a vibe of a king of haunted and increasingly paranoid Henry. I’m sure they are going for that, so good.

Ursula Pole and Mama:

Maggie Pole say ‘riches don’t keep you safe’ with tears in her eyes :’(. Please tell me how this is not her thinking on her parents and granddad Warwick and what befell them ;’(.

I find Ursula refreshing actually, don’t get those types of heroines often. But they are making her similar to a gold-digger, an exhalted marriage was first and foremost considered a thing of honour. Noblepeople wouldn’t speak in such mercenary terms regarding their marriages. 

Post Mary Defiance:

I love the ‘horse’ nickname from Brandon n’awwww

Also just realised what made TWQ so atmospheric - that wierd ‘oooo’ sound effect in the background when a character was being paranoid or worrying. They are using it during Henry’s ‘How is it that I have no sons?’ and it is just... so effective.

Catherine calling them ordinary children... she just keeps striking me as more and more classist. Like ok, I know every royal was... but still, I thought she was meant to see Lina as a friend and equal despite her race and status. To add the race element, this kind of rubs me the wrong way.

Also it is so clear by the end when Catherine states how the king is upset with her, she expects Maggie to ask her about it.. but she doesn’t lmao.

Back to Scotland until Sexy boy fencing:

I love me this soft boi. Angus <3 <3

I like how they address that some men don’t really like killing and that violence isn’t inherent in a man’s nature.

Oh man, are we supposed to look at Lina’s house and deplore the impoverished conditions? It would go for at least 3,000,000 pounds in today’s property market?

Is Catherine being particularly classist again with ‘Why u not becoming a butcher Wolsey, ey?’. 

Though I will admit the ‘but giving meat to the poor is also good’ was one of her only smart comebacks.

Just realised, Catherine’s pink dress pretty as it is, looks straight out of the 1570s... why?

Montage and After:

You guys are right, there is this weird longing between Henry and Wolsey lmao. It is actually insane.

So basically Catherine is officially depressed

OOOFF we have Stafford as regent instead of Catherine. (edit: I suppose it’s cause they go to France which they didn’t historically? Also if Stafford is at home then what is his son later doing in France, why would he be there without his father. This show didn’t think this through)

Meg Singing:

An impassionate speech is not too anachronistic. But despite the title of this post (what hasn’t been said) I will reiterate that 16th century and Medieval people’s problem wasn’t that they were ashamed of their grief and didn’t cry. In fact, crying was somewhat more socially acceptable then than it even is now! Even manly men like Arthur were written as crying in literature such as Malory’s Morte d’Arthur. Obviously you couldn’t go overboard, but in truth crying was indeed often too performative rather than hidden too much behind doors.

Pole and More UWUWU in France and after:

I LIKE THIS INTELLECTUAL FLIRTING

It’s nice to see a depiction of romantic feelings between mature and level-headed subjects.

God Mary Tudor is so beautiful in this scene jesus. and the music when she was being presented was also very beautiful.

Maggie Pole getting given ‘a modest income’ yeah... she was one of the wealthiest peers of her day.

Also Maggie’s lady cousin not lady aunt Frost!

William Compton cracks the hell out of me. I love this guy. He is just so creepy and twisted yet super keen and friendly. ahaha He looks like a riot, I hope we see him more. lmao tiles.

Also this palace feels very anachronistic almost 18th century-ish.

I like the Louis and Mary sequence, it’s nice seeing him trying to make her feel less scared, but OMFG when he lay on that chair.. for one second I thought they were trying to kill him off already.

Scotland: ‘Love is an open doooooorrrrr’ + Last Scene:

I ship Meg and Douglas ahhhh this soft boi x strong woman match is everything Henry and Catherine could have been.

I wonder... why is Lina speaking in Spanish more than Catherine. hmmm Are they trying to foreshadow Lina’s eventual return home and how Catherine become a true englishwoman?

Conclusion:

7.5/10

I cannot in all fairness believe it. This was actually decent. I’ve given up on historical accuracy long ago so by this point I’m focusing more on how it stands as as drama. I mean, TWQ was also a flop when it came to grasping the complex issues of that era but why do I feel compelled to rewatch it every year? Because it had atmosphere when it came to acting, music, certain aesthetics (though the costumes let me down often). It felt adequately gothic and dark, yet bright and jewel-lish when it had to be, sometimes both at the same time. Some one-liners were also memorable etc...

So far TSP 2 did not have any of this. Everything felt way too off and anachronistic. But not even consistently anachronistic. The music was also often very meh (though I just noted the absence of the spanish stringy theme that kept playing in season 1 - I guess I understand why), the dialogue very clichéd (‘alright lads let’s throw in the words: king, crown, power, fight, battle + other buzzwords and we have ourselves Shakespeare’) and so on... but I saw a change in this episode and I couldn’t initially point out what it was.

Upon rewatch, I identified some of the improvements (noted above) but above all: The producer was different! Boy does it show. Unfortunately, I think she is only for this one episode which really sucks. Come back! There is more chemistry between the couples, less predictable interactions, pervy Compton, cinnamonroll Douglas, better music, more scenic shots (e.g Douglas and Margaret in church) e.t.c. I hope it will match the rest of the STARZ productions in getting better towards the end.

Look it’s no masterpiece. But I’ll give credit where it’s due because at least this time it didn’t leave me feeling wanting and unsatisfied (if that makes sense).
