      ** Hisui has joined the battle

A SHORT LITTLE HEADCANON / CHAT ABOUT HISUI

Hisui always struck me as a young man with a lot to learn but a good head on his shoulders. While I don’t particularly enjoy the story Sunrise’s HANYO NO YASHAHIME is telling it did give me a lot of insight into Hisui’s personality, influences, insecurities and my own thoughts about how he’ll decide to step into his own , inherit  and maybe even start a legacy of his own.

Hisui will lead the slayers someday. I’ve no doubt about that in my mind. He’s glued to Kohaku not only out of necessity but because this is role he’s being trained for. Most importantly, it’s something that’s become abundantly clear to me that Hisui really wants. He wants to be a protector, a provider, someone who others can turn to and rely on. I see that one day he’ll be an excellent leader of the taijiya like his uncle was and maybe even someone the slayers village could rally around and elect to lead them. He’s got fire, he’s got heart and in a couple years he’ll have experience and wisdom. 

Although it’s not something that is apparent as Yashahime progresses which annoys me to no end - Hisui should and would have powerful spiritual abilities. Something Sunrise themselves eluded to at the beginning of the series but then never touched upon again. As a young baby Hisui sensed a demonic presence when neither Sango nor even Kagome were even aware of it. Remember Miroku himself said he’s from a long line of powerful monks and on Sango’s side is distantly related to the legendary priestess Midoriko. And I believe he’ll follow in the priestess’ exact footsteps. What happened to his mother’s village will never happen again. Hisui will erect a barrier around the village when he’s older to protect it because he’ll realize that demons will come to either challenge him or consume him for his spiritual energy, power and prowess. 

Whilst Hisui has so much of his mother’s determination, kind and gentle temperament and fierce will to live - he also acts so much like his father with regards to his stubbornness. In all the battles we’ve seen him face he’s been very quick to aid Setsuna in the same way that his father was quick to become reckless when Sango was in danger. I’ve no doubt he’d be prepared to sacrifice his life for hers because of how through the years she’ll become such an important relationship to her. His partner, the person he knows has his back but also someone he’ll grow to love and care for even if she weren’t ever to return his feelings. The way Miroku kindly smiled at Sango and wished for her happiness, I’m certain he’d want that for Setsuna and Towa - even if it meant someday saying goodbye to someone who’d played such an important part in his life. 

 think that Hiraikotsu is yet to accept Hisui fully as it’s new master as is. Mainly because Hisui still doubts himself and if he’s ready to fully devote himself to his mother’s weapon when he never felt it would ever be his to begin with. It will take some time but one day, the voices of the demons slain from the past that make up the integrity of the weapon will reach out to Hisui the way they did Sango. They will test Hisui and he will have to overcome all the insecurities he’s ever thought or experienced with regards to the roles his parents played in his upbringing, how much they sacrificed for him and how Hisui will have to decide for himself what kind of Master to Hiraikotsu he’ll want to be. There’s a reason it never went to Kohaku, or Kin’u or Gyokuto. It chose him. It saw something in him. And since he first touched it as a boy, on a deep level he knew this was his weight to carry, his inheritance, their sacrifice and memories of all his family went through to remember, pass on, and bear. 

Kirara and Hisui’s relationship is honestly one of my favorites to talk about. I see her being such a maternal force beside him and reassurance that his mother believed in him when he was younger. I believe she looks at all of Sango’s children like they’re hers but Hisui is her kit. Her baby. She’ll watch him with pride grow into the man he’ll become one day and tear apart anyone that would ever hurt her. She promised his mother she’d watch over her brother and her son and she will. She’ll continue to reside with Sango’s family for generations and generations to come. And no matter how old he gets Hisui will always be like a son to her too.

What kind of plot twist are you?

the eucatastrophe

in chaos, there is also opportunity (so they say). you are the dark night of the soul before the light floods in. the gasp in the crowd when all seems to fail but suddenly victory puts her lipstick on and is desperate for the mic. you are a vase of fresh flowers gift-wrapped in doom. catastrophe delivering itself over to the real ending—something miraculous. everything is on fire, but this is just the warmth we needed to make it through the night.

I have a theory regarding hiraikotsu and hisui in yashahime. since apparently hisui’s only just been a demon slayer in the last two ??? / few years (which is a lore choice I’m not fond of if I’m honest - I see him chasing after his family with regards to learning the hiraikotsu since he was a kid). But that gives me pause to think, in every fight that we’ve seen hisui and hiraikotsu fighting together , the weapon’s been deflected or hasn’t been as effective as it has been when sango wield it. 

now this could just be a case of the writing, wanting the girls to be the focus of slaying the big bads but I actually believe hisui hasn’t...entirely connected with hiraikotsu yet as a weapon. knowing the history and that the weapon is comprised of multiple demonic spirits that have to accept to fight along someone and connect with the wielder... it makes me hope we’ll get an episode or at least a nod to that in the future. I think hisui has the potential to be a very strong and powerful demon slayer, if not one of the best. 

I really want them to give him spiritual powers so he could infuse hiraikotsu with it or something to that extent. overall I just think there’s a lot of potential for hisui as a character but I don’t know if he’ll actually be written as well as some of the other characters and given some depth because as the show’s set up - he doesn’t travel with the girls normally which I think is kind of a loss on sunrise’s part. because the original cast was so diverse and had so many different characters. right now it feels kind of one note and flat for me, so in the meantime I’ll be over here writing my own interpretation of hisui, events and things I guess.

 it feels like home

you're the kind of person that makes people feel safe. you probably couldn't be intimidating if you tried, but that doesn't matter. what matters is your kindness and compassion, your innate way of making people feel happy. you're so good at taking care of everybody else, but don't forget to take care of yourself, too! you deserve the same love you give so freely

“there, you’re all patched up.” 

hurt sentence starters

Boy’s intent little face watched as father wrapped the bandage around his hand. Trying to put a big brave face , even as his nose and cheeks and ears reddened from the shame of having to get patched up. Not to mention a stern lecture from Uncle .. and Mother ...

He rubbed his nose on his opposite arm and sniffed. perhaps trying to sharpen mama’s sword for practice wasn’t .. wasn’t the best idea when you didn’t know how. But uncle made it all look so easy. He sighed , quiet and tried to refrain from pouting. But his bottom lip wobbled and his chin jut out. 

❛ thanks. ❜   the care his father took tying the bandage and holding his left hand made him feel ... better about messing up. As miroku got up the young boy took hold of his robes and tugged on them. He sat back down and heard him out. Father was .. he was easy to talk to . 

               ❛ I jus’ . I jus’ .. wanna be .   ❜  his eyes stung but he shook it off .  ❛ I jus’ wanna be brave like .. like her . I’m .. I’m brave . I’m .. I can be like her .. can’t I father ? ❜

 He looked up , with wide hopeful eyes .  ❛ can’t I? ❜  he’d be crushed if he couldn’t . how could you say no , to an innocent , determined little face like that? 

He looked down and sniffed , rubbing his nose again. 

I’ll be good enough . He glared at the dirt , glared it into submission adorably .

I’ll be good enough .. strong enough ..

why  you  intimidate  people

you're kind

love should be expressed when it is felt and humans are made of love, they create it seemingly out of nothing. love seems to just flow out of you and it intimidates people because where do you always find it? how are you capable of holding so much kindness in you and never get beaten down by those who scorn love?
