Hux was not a fearful man. Years with Brendol have taught him that every pain has an end. And no matter what he is able to bear it and live. Breathing was helpful. It's always better to breath through pain. What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. Right? At this point Hux knew it was kriffing bullshit. Nightmares didn't make him stronger, flashback didn't make him stronger, memories didn't make him stronger, the irresistible urge to cry, to scream and to die didn't make him stronger. It gave him a purpose though. It gave him determination. Brendol signed his own death sentences. With every blow, every humiliation, every scream. Hux knew he will mange. He just has to breathe.

But now someone took breath from him. He did not care about black robes, about mask, even about saber. It was just costume. Meaningless things to intimidate fearful people. But blunt force of invisible hand tightening on his throat was something else. His uniform collar barely hid bruises. He hated those moments. Kneeling on the ground, with hands on the durastil floor, fighting for his breath and being able to utter only "As you wish, Lord Ren". He wanted to kill him. No matter how powerful, or how useful was Ren seeing him dead would bring him endless enjoyment. He knew it was impossible. But he was patient. Patience is one of few virtuses Hux posesed.

First time he saw him destroying consoles he was scared for his life, second furious, third irritated, forth… ah forth time was actually something else.

Hux tightened his grip on datapad and took a deep breath. Red reflections were flashing on the walls.

"Stay here Mitaka"

"Sir?"

" Stay. Here. " He moved forward to certain death. "Ren!"

To his surprise Ren was maskless. He was hitting non-stop completely destroyed consoles. Metal was melted and marked with saber.

"Ren! This is madness! Stop now or i will shoot you!" Kylo hit console last time, breathing heavy. Hux blinked as he heard sobbing. Kylo drop on his knees hiding his face in hands.

"Ren?" Hux made a few steps in his direction and took another deep breath. Just in case. He crouched down slowly. Oh how easy it would be to pull out a dagger and just cut his throat. But Hux was smarter than that. Wounded dog can bite even harder. Another breath, just in case. "Ren?"

Kylo sat down holding his legs close to his chest. Hux could only see his eyes and hair. Oh how young. Hux swallowed looking at him. Kylo Ren was crying. Kylo Ren was definitely younger than him. Kylo Ren was trembling. On the ground. That's new. But there was only one person who could caused this.

"Was he… angry?" He began slowly, looking cautiously at Kylo. Knight looked and the ground and cleared his throat.

"Yeah."

"Mhm." Hux nodded slowly. Patiently. He looked around on destroyed chamber and sighed. Stood up and turn around. Let's see. " I will do paperwork" He said aiming to the door. It took only two steps.

"General."

"Yes, Lord Ren?"

"You have made a very good decision." Hux blinked. It was not what he expected.

"What?"

"Not pulling that knife on me." he whispered "You would be dead. In less than a second. Do not forget yourself." Hux felt pressure on his throat. Not enough to take away air but enough to make him shiver. Hux turned around. He saw tears, shaky hands, tired look.

"How old are you?" He blurted out. Ren looked at him in confusion.

"I… I am 24"Hux was looking at him for far to long. He left him there and glanced at Mitaka.

"We can go." he mumbled but then suddenly stopped looking at Mitaka "Lieutenant, how old are you?"

"25 sir. Everything alright, sir?"

"Find anything you can about Kylo Ren and send it to my datapad. Schedule meeting with him today and make sure that he is aware of it."

"Yes sir."

Kylo stormed into his chamber, immediately making Hux furious, but he did mange to calm himself.

"What do you want?"

"Since i already saw your face maybe we can spare the mask?" It caught Kylo off guard. He cleared his throat

"I…i am not sure if i am allowed to.. "

"Allowed? " He asked mockingly. Kylo stayed silent and removed mask after few seconds. He put It on the desk and sat down.

" Your little lap dog didn't want to leave me alone until i promised to see you"

" He is not a lap dog. He is my right-hand man. And is older than you" he said amused.

" That's what It is all about right? My age? You think i am too young and..."

"To reckless. Maybe. Incompetent. Yes. Your Age? Is not a problem. It's an advantage. Your age is the reason why we are talking right now"

"I see. You should be more careful with this thoughts General. These are dangerous. Reckless."

"Maybe. But i think we share them. Aren't we Ren? We both think that this organization is in… Ah well desperate need of new management"

" Watch your words" Ren hissed "You are talking about killing my Master, Hux."

"Isn't it a fate of all masters? To be killed by their apprentices?" Hux smiled and something in Kylo's face told him that he had won.

Maybe Kylo was right to hid his face behind the mask. Because now Hux could read from his face like from statistic report. The bait was taken. Hux knew how efficiently manipulate people. Which words to use. How to act. And Kylo Ren was receptive to all of it. Hux earned a few more bruises. But he learned from his mistakes and now he had very lovely, obedient hound at his heel. Until now.

Kylo stood looking at a dead body of Snoke.

"Where do you think you are going general?" He smiled looking at Hux walking too close to the throne. He pushed him lightly with force to the centre of the throne room. "You thought that you outsmarted me General? That you can now take what's mine?"

Hux pressed his lips together looking as Kylo sat on the throne.

"Your plan was indeed brilliant, your guidance acceptable and appreciated but now… Well am not going to give up what is rightfully mine"

"And what about me?" He hissed and looked around at stormtroopers and officers kneeling before Kylo. With forehead to the ground. That fight was lost, Hux could feel it.

"Ah… Well it depends on you. What do you say? The Supreme Leader is dead." Hux felt strange presence in his mind. Growing tightness in his skull. And voice. Sweet promising tone talking about how all troubles and pain will end. He only need to lay on the ground before Kylo Ren. Lay at his feet as a well-earned prize. His head was spinning, and he felt blood running from his nose. Stubborn fool. Give up! He took a deeper breath and dropped at one knee looking at Kylo with high rise chin.

" Long live Supreme Leader"

Kylo tilted his head watching him with curious expression. Something in between approbation and annoyance was on his face. He stood up and stand before Hux.

"Stand up Grand Marshall. We have work to do, aren't we?"

"One day i will kill you"Kylo smiled.

" Yes. I know. But it's not that day"

"No. It is not." he said silently. "I am patient. I can wait. I will wait."

It was as much a threat as a promise. And force hummed in agreement, making Kylo shiver.
