masha's family has always been unilaterally devoted to the safety of their village. so much so that masha's mother and grandmother had resorted to cannibalizing themselves to feed their village, and masha inherited that extreme devotion. her meat magic lended itself well to healing, but masha developed a very depersonalized view of people, including herself. surprisingly, this mindset didn't qualify for her husband and their seven children, who she loved dearly. during the war on devils, resources weren't being allocated correctly, so the village started to go hungry again. masha at first started using the corpses of mage defense force members, and eventually graduated to cutting her left arm off to provide fresh meat.

when it was revealed that her fourth child, ciel, was the ritual bride for loyce grinberryall, masha had to watch as her daughter was taken. she slipped into a deep depression for a few years, and then soldiered on as the villages caretaker, having three more kids and teaching them her unhealthy mindset. the grinberryalls began supporting the village due to ciel's relation to it, and the notion sent masha into a state of cognitive dissonance. she died when her youngest children, alois and aayden, were in their double digits

alois, as the inheritor of their mom's meat magic, quickly took to the family trade with skill and appreciation. they were close to anais as a kid, but bonded well with masha and aayden, their younger brother. it broke their heart to leave the village to serve house grinberryall, but all of their other siblings were doing it, and they weren't in possession of much of a personality back then. once they got to the palace, they hated it there, but to go back would lose a lot of resources and funds for their village, so alois grinned and bore it, until they met dante zogratis, serving as part of the mage defense force.

dante and alois began a whirlwind romance, meeting in clandestine areas and hiding it from both of their siblings. even when dante began plotting regicide, alois didn't really care, as they finally had something to reach for - power. being a queen would give them power and importance, and as the sixth of seven siblings, they kind of craved it. at the last moment, they backed out of the plan, due to worrying about ciel, and fled back home, only to find out they were carrying dante's child. when the child was born, they raised him with the help of aayden. they don't talk to ciel or their other siblings, mostly out of guilt, but the other siblings make sure the three of them are well taken care of

anais had the reputation as a child of the sibling that was 'most like' masha, her mother. she's a calculated, clever, and pragmatic woman, but unlike her mother, anais is less likely to sacrifice herself for the benefit of others. her interest has always been science, the functions and forms of a human body. masha scolded her a few times for ruining the meat by dissecting whatever she could get her hands on, but the warning never stuck. when her siblings left to seek their fortune or find ciel, anais followed, and joined the mage defense force's healing division. there, she used her skin magic and knowledge of anatomy to develop new healing techniques with her fellows - even if she couldn't do most the healing, she could help, but it didn't satisfy her.

she met fedir klein while repairing some burns from a diamond soldier, and he piqued her interest due to his inability to feel pain at all. he was a medical mystery, and the two began to date. anais was able to continue her work with help from fedir and his money - he was a spade nobleman, and his money gave her access to better studies. anais managed to get education after she and fedir were married, but didn't complete it due to the fall of house grinberryall. fedir and anais met up with her siblings and the rest of the resistance.

during the qliploth advent ritual, anais helped healers with the clover attacking force, and then later, poked around among the wreckage to find corpses. it's a habit. after ciel and artemy ascended the throne, anais was able to complete her education and become one of spade's royal scientists. she is. better than morris.

eitinne was the second out of the seven voland children, and despite always looking like a wisp the tiktok cat, he inherited masha's pragmatism. he's smarter than he looks, and values money and security over his own morals 99% of the time. he spent a lot of his time as a child around the older kids in the village, and eventually, as a teenager, joined a squad of magic items smugglers. he spent a lot of his time in clover and diamond until the zogratis siblings took over. his siblings contacted him for help, as most of them were known defectors. eitinne and his buddies joined the mage defense force under the zogratis siblings as a spy.

eitinne reported back to his siblings on the comings and goings of the zogratis siblings. he also worked on transporting devil materials and searching for the lynchpin to the grinberryall ritual. he was the one who got joey a devil relic so she could contract with egyn. eitinne "betrayed" the zogratis siblings during the qliploth advent ritual and helped his comrades kill devils, which earned him a place in the mage defense force afterward.

tomas was the eldest of masha and andres' kids, and was very close to his father from the getgo. he had high dreams of working in the mage defense force, but put those dreams to the side when his parents had more kids. he put himself up to be the role model to his siblings, and began using his magic to keep an eye on them when his parents were working. tomas took ciel being taken extremely hard, and took his dream of being on the mage defense force off the shelf just so he could see and potentially rescue his precious sister.

ciel managed to get in a good word, and a lot of her siblings managed to get high-paying jobs within the castle guard. tomas managed to reunite with ciel, and stayed in the castle guard to keep an eye on loyce. it was there he met lev, one of the mage defense forces' healers. the two began a whirlwind romance that only increased in severity once the zogratis sibings took over. they both defected from the force to work for the resistance for seventeen years, and assisted in the attack on the royal capital. now that ciel is on the throne, both have returned to their original jobs.

andrés was always a sunny person. he was his parents' only child, and as such tended to be given whatever he asked for, but he never asked for much. he was a sweet and loving man, and everyone in the village was surprised when he fell hard for masha, who was known as kind of a loner. andrés managed to get masha to eat lunch with him, and was the first person outside of her family to make her laugh (which surprised everyone, even her!) they got married and began having kids fairly late for their village, but andrés was taking his time and making sure they were both comfortable. he was aware of the cannibalism going on in her family, but supported it as a way to take care of their growing family and the tight-knit community.

after ciel was taken and masha fell into a depression, andrés took over as the childrens' primary caretaker, and as such, ended up being closer to the younger children. unfortunately, he died after their youngest son was born, but masha had pulled herself to coherency by that point.
