Meet Nanea Mitchell!

Alice Nanea Mitchell was born on April 11th. Her year is 1941 and she is incidentally modern. She lives in Honolulu, Hawaii, with her older sister Mary Lou, her older brother David, her parents May and Richard, and her maternal grandparents Sybil and Harold. She likes fishing, learning hula from her grandmother, and spending afternoons playing with her friends. When she grows up, Nanea wants to be a master hula performer and teacher.

Finally got around to edit this image!

I of course put the dolls with the longest names next to each other. I made it work though!

You may notice Caroline has a ? where her name should be. That's because I'm thinking of getting another Caroline and making the Caroline I currently have into a historical OC. Which I haven't named yet. Ill post and update when I figure that out ^^

Along with Caroline I have the doll who I posted the other day. I was going to make her Mary-Lou from Nanea's story, but after looking at the illustrations I decided to pick a different doll to be Mary-Lou. Though I may give Nanea another sibling still. I don't know how this has happened but I'm not mad. I just have to actually get Nanea lol

I'm loving all these theories. Could it just be possible that all the AG girls are related or connected in some way?

It’s certainly possible. And I very much want it to be true that they all have similar connections. But for the most part I haven’t been able to see any other obvious link between characters in different time periods.

Although I do have a theory that Kanani could be Nanea’s granddaughter or great-granddaughter. Nanea’s grandparents owned a general store, and Kanani’s parents own a sweet shop that used to be a general store when it was built by her great-grandfather. Nanea always liked helping out in Pono’s market, but as the youngest child in her immediate family, she’d be unlikely to inherit the business if David or Mary Lou wanted it instead. So maybe she married someone in the Akina family and helped either her husband or father-in-law establish Akina’s store on Kauai. And Kanani does mention she’s part Hawaiian on her dad’s side. 

If I let my brain quietly simmer with some ideas for a while, it might spit out something coherent, which it does once in a while. If that happens, I’ll post about it and see what you all think. If it comes up with something totally bananas..... you can bet that I’ll still make a post.

the new ag historical books: what did they cut out?

today i went to barnes & noble and bought 4 of the new ag books:

after i bought them, i thought: “these are abridged and all new, so why not compare them to the originals?” so here we go!

first up is julie:

(i don’t have her beforever edition, but the original is better)

this one not only has new illustrations, but the old ones as well! they’re used on the side of the pages, like this:

the part that was taken out is all of happy new year julie, or chapters 11-15 of the beforever one

the spines of the books are the exact same color, which is cool

next up is maryellen:

Chapter 3: Thanksgiving. Nanea is trying to teach her friends a hula she came up with to show appreciation for their families. The motions represent the daily routines of all the family members. She realizes its time to help with dinner and runs home. Her sister calls her a baby again and she gets mad. She starts angrily filling a hollowed out pineapple with flowers for the table but calms herself down after she sees the flowers she crushed. She talks to her grandpa, Tutu Kane, about his childhood in Hawaii. She thinks how sad it must be for her dad to live so far away from his family in Oregon. She gets an idea to make her dad feel better. She makes him a book and draws out pictures of a story he told her. When he was a kid living on a farm, his dad brought home a turkey to fatten up for thanksgiving, but he got so attached to it they couldn’t eat it, and they kept it as a pet for 10 years. Her dad loves the book and says he doesn’t miss home because she is his home now. Donna and Lily’s families come over for dinner. Everyone comes outside to watch the girls perform their hula, but while they are dancing Mele knocks the turkey off the counter and starts eating it. Nanea realizes she was so busy this morning she forgot to feed her. Her family is very forgiving as there are many other dishes to eat, including a roasted pig. After dinner, while the three kittens are doing the dishes, Nanea overhears the adults talking. They are worried the US will go to war with Japan. She decides not to tell her friends what she heard, and tells herself everything will be fine. 

Chapter 4: December 6. Nanea is at the beach with Mary Lou, Lily, and Donna. The kittens start talking about the contest and wondering how Nanea can turn trouble into triumph. They decide that because she ruined thanksgiving dinner, she should make a nice breakfast for her family tomorrow. She trades with Auntie Rose plumerias for malasadas, and then makes cold cereal and papaya. She is outside picking flowers for the table when she sees some planes flying very low. She hears several loud booms and sees smoke in the sky. David pulls her inside and they put on the radio. The announcer calls for military, police, and firefighters to report to duty. Her dad leaves for Pearl Harbor to help. The announcer says enemies have attacked.

Mary Lou: What was that?

Nanea: My imaginary friend fell down.

Mary Lou: God, Nanea. Even your imaginary friends are embarrassing.

Nanea: Maybe Lily's moved on.

Mary Lou: "She's moved on?" Wait, did you guys break up? Can seven-year-olds even do that?

Nanea: I'm eleven.

David: Let's do something really scary.

Mary Lou: Well, we can rent a few genre films.

Nanea: Or we could go to bed early, and be alone with our thoughts.

Nanea: Nonsense. I'm an easygoing girl.

Mary Lou: Okay. I once saw you use a ruler to measure another ruler.

Nanea: It was off by half a centimeter. It never should've been in circulation.

Nanea: I’m sorry, but this time I can’t do as you say.

Mary Lou: What do you mean “this time”?! You’ve never done what I’ve said once since I’ve known you!

I don't know why but I feel like doing a doll to do list. Basically, what do they need? What do I want for them? Etc and I figured it might be cool!

Gwenth - a camera or film set

Grace - maybe a dog

Crystal - more clothes, more music stuff

Ameila - a proper bedroom and garden set

Maka - Nanea and Naneas accessories

Jordan - the surf and swim set, dreamy daybed, and Kanani who she'll share a lot of things with

Zoe - eventually getting the other versions of #19 so she can be a set of triplets. A mini doll and more miniature books and writing sets.

Mckenna - her bed!

Izumi - an outfit or set for her hobbies and more clothes in general. Plus a bedroom as well

Saige - complete parade outfit and her horse

Caroline - get a historical outfit for my current Caroline and find another to be Caroline (I feel I customized her too far from Caroline)

Josefina - more outfits, a bedroom, and her goat

Isabelle - the sparkling dance outfit and more alternative clothes

Kirsten - her trestle table and chairs, plus maybe the AG chalet lodge thing if the table would fit in it. Along with the caring for baby set.

Samantha - get her a nanea or similar outfit and make her into Mary-Lou and get a new Samantha to be Samantha

Kit - now that I have an outfit for them get their stove and desk. Plus Ruthie of course

Juniper - get her sister (truly me 23) and the AG stables eventually

Nicole - get more of Kirstens things that fit her story

Serena - get her friends (truly me 54 and another doll I haven't figured out yet) and their outfits

Julie - get her bedroom stuff and Ivy

Edit: not retiring just a new book it seems! But still here on my thoughts

I'm actually sad to see beforever Sam go! Sure beforever was bad and Sam's meet definitely wasn't her but the doll looked so much like the Sam I had as a kid!

I was planning on getting her next. Giving her the tartan meet dress of my current Sam then making my pleasant company Sam into Mary Lou since I already have Maka who is an oc that is Naneas and Mary Lous older sister. I'm not sure who the pink dress would've gone too but it was super cute just not for Samantha. I looked it up and you can find her second hand pretty easily so I'm grateful for that!

Nanea: Okay, but in my defense, Donna bet me 50 cents that I couldn't drink all that shampoo.

Mary Lou: That's not what I wanted to- you drank shampoo?

Nanea: What? No. You're the one farting bubbles.
