¿Conoces la suave imagen encantada
en que las almas confluyen
en un melódico,
tierno y dulce suspiro?
Encandecen como rosas púrpuras,
que tímidas se ocultan
entre el musgo húmedo.
Esa imagen encantada vaga
por prados y campos que jamás hallarás,
que talismán alguno atará
y que ningún sol ha descubierto.
No ha brotado de brillo alguno
ni gozado de las bondades de la tierra.
Relucirá eternamente
aunque el tiempo bata sus veloces alas,
aunque Apolo fustigue sus corceles,
y aunque los mundos se desdibujen, silenciosos,
en la nada.
Ha creado en ella una fuerza
que ningún mundo ni Dios doblegará.
Semejante al sonido de las cítaras,
tocadas como una eterna lira,
en constante refulgir,
en perenne fuego,
en las alturas,
en añorante ímpetu.
¡Oíd las cuerdas que en ti resuenan! Sin desvío vagarán tus pasos.
Hoy, 5 de mayo, es el natalicio de Karl Marx, el maestro de la filosofía contemporánea y teórico del materialismo histórico. Además de su contribución a la política y al análisis social, fue, en mi humilde opinión, un desastroso poeta. Hace unos años traduje este poema que dedicó, al igual que muchos otros, a Jenny von Westphalen. Esta vez traigo una versión algo mejorada.
