Looking at your “the way Yoichi calls Kudo his hero” art AND OP YOUR MIND 🥺🥺🥺
(Also, suzu?)
thank you thank you!!! you see the same light as i do tumblr user marvinhere
also,
Suzu is a character i made up on the spot when i drew that art in particular hahaha! Her meta ability is 'Dog Eyes' which is a misnomer bc how it works is she sees how dog nose's smell.
Tumblr media
she's a member of the resistance that is in charge of the K9 unit that now is mainly tasked on finding survivors who are trapped under rubble in the wake of AFO's destruction.
due to her keen sense of sight she is also tasked at information gathering of AFO and his supporter's locations and business dealings. she hates doing stakeouts but she finds herself doing that more often than not.
she thrives in doing the work alongside her doggos even though it is the most emotionally taxing side of her work for the resistance bc ultimately, they know her the best.
she is also rooting for kudou and yoichi lol

Wonderful @marvinhere over at Renegade Bindery collected a volume of tumblr “folktales”.
Here’s my spin on it!
A three-piece Bradel binding featuring:
🦀 covers in all the fun shades of tumblr blue with the post that started it all on the back cover;
🦀 logo linoprinted on dark blue linen spine;
🦀 crab party on the endpapers;
🦀 my first attempt at sewing double core endbands;
🦀 edges painted to look like ✨space✨
🦀 custom bookmark because more memes is always a good idea, right?

Feeling like I need to try harder to post here a bit more. For my own sake. Undocumented projects are bound to be forgotten and being reminded of past works brings joy.
Tried to frame today as a "do whatever I want" day-- and apparently what I want is bookbinding. And tablet weaving, which has haunted me since @marvinhere started making it look so fun/interesting/full of potential. Have been feeling the itch of a new interest really start to bubble forth lately - have woven two bands so far and this is my third.
Of course bookbind can lovingly absorb such labors/interests. @chubsonthemoon's bookcloth is such a beautiful and inspiring piece, have been looking for a way to similarly slam these two interests together like a toddler with a pair of pots.
Minis are my MO and I've been long on the lookout for sufficiently tiny bookmarks (most ribbons being comically large when incorporated) -- I have also been interested in testing out a 2 (rather than 4) hole card/weave.
Thankfully stoned me last night, when pulling the thread needed for sewing the textblock, had an absurdly long excess when done... Which made me realize I could just weave the bookmark directly into the textblock (and anchor the rest of the warp by just looping it around the kettle stitches)
Saturday crafting in the sun- you can see the shadow of the binder clip I use to anchor the ends. Book is in tiny press and tiny press is in lap, allowing me to apply tension while also weaving off to the side (am still struggling with posture/form - I do not want/like to anchor it to my waist)
Having a good time. Brewing up more combo ideas...

WIP - Doodlefied Bredlik Poems (A11 - version)
(see the finished book here)
With so many event-binds due to a specific date and keeping it all hush hush it's been quiet here and after it took me a moment to find the spoons to do a litte write up. This tiny Doodlefied Bredlik went out to the typesetter @marvinhere It is an A11 sized version, with rounding and trimming the finished book turned out more of a square though.
As much as I love the tiny books, at that size they start being a pain and I usually take a moment to forget how my fingers cramped when holding the signatures for sewing. I also sew with a waxed sewing thread in order to keep the swell low. Despite its size it comes up to around 20 signatures which can result in a lot of swell.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With as little weight as the pages have, I skipped the hidden cloth jointed endpapers and just tipped them on. There was a lot of squishing involved to get the signatures nice and flush and slightly angled before gluing and cutting the top and bottom edge under the guillotine (this time I was smart enough to reduce pressing pressure for a better result). I sanded the front edge and realised only then that it would have been smart to trim each signature at least a little in advance. This way it took way longer to get rid of the saw tooth. (You can still see it a bit on the picture below)
Tumblr media
The cover was made from scraps as a Bradel binding. One of the biggest advantages of tiny books, you can use even the smallest its and pieces and put them to use.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had the cover dry fitted first to be sure the hinge was large enough and the edges looked nice.
Fun fact: for the hinge it doesn't matter at all what dimensions the book your binding is, it depends on the board thickness, swell and covering material. The leather was pared really thin to allow for good movement in the hinge area. I let it dry completely before hot stamping the title and, as a last minute decision, cover decoration.

Hi there! I am doing a bredlik podficcing project for the None English fest (a fest celebrating fanworks of many languages) and wondering how you'd feel about podfic of your French bredlik translation? No pressure either way, and for further information you're welcome to tumblr message me (also rhipiduridae and marvinhere linked me to your post)
Howdy! I'd be thrilled! I'm not a native French speaker so it would be a big honour to have it read properly. Please send me a link whenever it's available for listening :)

there's a very fascinating recent example of the poem translation struggle and joys! if you look at the recent popular meme poem "I lik the bred", there are now to date hundreds of translations into multiple languages, including conlangs (@marvinhere has compiled an extensive collection; I can only claim to have contributed the mando'a translation).
many of the translations @marvinhere had compiled are explicit results of the knowledge that a compilation was occurring, and many of the translations then have a literal re-translation back into English to demonstrate how the translator did or did not localize or adapt for linguistic differences. it's a fascinating little compilation. (case in point - star wars doesn't have cows and mando'a only has a generic word for a riding mount! and therefore this is the word I used in place of cow).
the thing you need to realize about localization is that japanese and english are such vastly different languages that a straight translation is always going to be worse than the original script. nuance is going to be lost and, if you give a shit about your job, you should fill the gaps left with equivalent nuance in english. take ff6, my personal favorite localization of all time: in the original japanese cefca was memorable primarily for his manic, childish speaking style - but since english speaking styles arent nearly as expressive, woolsey adapted that by making the localized english kefka much more prone to making outright jokes. cefca/kefka is beloved in both regions as a result - hell, hes even more popular here

if you're still on the Raven-Charles siblingisms:
what do you think are the bits they do to annoy eachother?
sorry this took so long i have been incredibly busy!! but i am always, always, alllwayyys on my raven and charles siblingisms & 90% of this response is about them in the oxford era
>raven leaves half full glasses of water around everywhere in the apartment which bugs charles to no end like why can’t you just use one cup and actually DRINK IT raven!!!
>i feel like every sibling understands the pain of having your leftovers stolen. they are both equally guilty of this.
>i said this in the other ask but raven steals charles’ cardigans when it gets cold to use them as snow protection and brings em back sopping wet after sledding/skiing/whatever and charles is always like “jesus raven im going to have to pay a fortune in dry cleaning to fix this” as if they arent millionaires
>charles leaves his books and papers EVERYWHERE in the apartment, especially where they are not supposed to be raven gets most annoyed when he dumps em on the kitchen counters
>when charles was trying to write his thesis he got pissy about noise in the apartment unless he was the one making it so he was always telling raven to turn the music down
>when they were itty bitty raven always got pissed at charles for reading longer than like 2 hours and ignoring her and charles got annoyed that raven was interrupting his study time. he always ended up abandoning whatever he was doing to entertain her tho

@marvinhere Is apparently putting together some sort of Bredlik anthology and mentioned in a Discord we share that they had multiple languages, but no con languages.

I joined for Gail Carriger, then stayed for the humor, and I still don’t understand what’s this about crucifix nipples???? It’s infamous on this blog apparently???
A few years ago my blog went viral on social media because of this (x) story I told about a really awful vampire Christian erotica I edited for the publishing house I worked for. I’ve never known peace since :P

white winged dove / shadow of a dragon by chrysaliseater [link]
Bound for the @renegadepublishing Tiny Book Bang. Typeset by @admiraltypress. I brought this typeset as uncut sheets with me to @fantailpress's for a @renegadepublishing meetup where we practiced suminagashi in Rhi's yard. In the sweltering heat, if I remember correctly. I don't think I even marbled this... I remember @marvinhere was in town, I think she marbled the text for me.

I was going down though memory lane and remembered one of the old hetalia sufin fan arts that I really liked... after a bit of digging, I was able to find your art agin! Years after, it’s still as beautiful and emotional as when I first saw it, and I wanted to take the time to thank you for your contributions and keeping them up. I know you’re no longer in the fandom, but your art still inspires many, and I hope you continue to thrive!
What a lovely message ;v; Thank you!!

I just- love your art so much!!!!!!♥️♥️♥️ The way it's colored is like paint strokes, on fabric I makes it look smooth and silky or satin, and the lighting is just fantastic! The colors are just so nice to book at too!!!
oh oh thank you! I have been having doubts on whether I like how my style evolves- and this is such a nice thing to hear! I’m glad you like it, and I really appreciate this kindness.
