Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man 4’ Gets Official Title, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ Ahead of Summer Filming

Peter Parker’s next big-screen adventure has been officially titled “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” Director Destin Daniel Cretton confirmed at CinemaCon that the highly anticipated fourth installment will begin filming this summer.

Although Tom Holland couldn’t attend the annual convention for movie theater owners in Las Vegas, he sent a video message teasing the upcoming superhero film.

“I am so sorry I can’t be with you. I am halfway around the world shooting a movie,” said Holland, who is currently filming Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” alongside Matt Damon, Zendaya, and Anne Hathaway.

Reflecting on the shocking ending of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” Holland added, “I know we left you with a massive cliffhanger, so ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is a fresh start. It is exactly that. That’s all I can say.”

Movie Review - Deadpool & Wolverine

I love this movie. It’s funny, it’s endearing, and its emotional climax actually hit me right in the feels. It manages to balance its signature irreverent humor with genuine heart, which is no easy feat when your protagonist is a walking fourth-wall-breaking punchline. That being said, even in a movie I thoroughly enjoyed, there were a few things that stuck out—some for the right reasons, others… not so much.

Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool, and while someone else could take over someday, they’d have a hell of a time making it their own. Then there’s Hugh Jackman, back as Wolverine like he never left. If anyone thought he’d phone it in after Logan, think again—he’s just as grumpy, just as savage, and just as likely to claw Deadpool in the face as ever. Their dynamic is everything you’d want: pure, chaotic, violent buddy comedy with just enough begrudging camaraderie to make you believe they’d actually die for each other.

However, With each passing Deadpool movie, Vanessa feels more and more like a plot device than a character. It was bad in the second movie, but somehow, it felt even worse here. She gets the “oh woe is me, I’m a monster, you can’t see me” treatment and the kidnapped damsel role in the first film, gets fridged in the second, and now, in the third, she’s the distant ex. It’s as if the writers couldn’t decide what to do with her, so they just cycled through every love interest cliché in the book.

Look, relationships fall apart. People die. But you can’t expect me to care if we barely see them together in the first place. And unlike most of the narrative choices in the Deadpool films—which are usually deliberate, self-aware jabs at genre tropes—Vanessa’s treatment doesn’t feel like a satire of love interest archetypes. It just feels like lazy writing.

When the movie jumps into the TVA and the multiverse, there’s a lot of potential for unique characters and fun new dynamics, and while some of them absolutely deliver, others feel like missed opportunities.

Cassandra Nova is a riot—chewing the scenery in a way that perfectly matches Deadpool’s tone while still managing to be a credible threat. She understands the assignment and brings just the right amount of menace and humor. The scene-stealer, though, is Wolverine himself. The moment he shows up in his classic yellow-and-blue suit, the movie shifts into a whole new level of fun. Watching him begrudgingly work with Deadpool—especially against a grotesque, past-his-prime version of himself—makes for some of the best action sequences in the film.

But not every character gets the same level of attention. Some of the side characters introduced in the TVA feel underdeveloped, existing purely to deliver exposition or serve as obstacles rather than adding any real depth to the story. The film throws a lot of interesting concepts at the wall, but it doesn’t always take the time to explore them fully.

Now, onto something else that bugged me: the whole Deadpool variant thing. The movie directly connects itself to Loki, which did the exact same concept, only… better. Loki had multiple versions of its main character—including an animal one—and I’m sorry, but Alligator Loki is just a funnier concept. There’s something about a scaly little menace in a tiny horned crown that hits on a deeper comedic level than just “what if Deadpool, but dog?”

And beyond the comedy, Loki’s use of variants actually meant something. The show used them to reflect Loki’s self-destructive nature, showing that no matter the timeline, no matter the circumstance, he was destined to sabotage himself. It was a joke and a key part of his character arc—like a snake swallowing its own tail.

The Deadpool variants? Yeah, they were funny, but what did they actually add to the movie beyond being a temporary obstacle to stretch out the finale? There was no deeper emotional or thematic payoff. They were just… there. Which, to be fair, is kind of Deadpool’s whole thing—sometimes, a joke is just a joke. But when the movie tries to have its cake and eat it too, blending heartfelt moments with absurdist humor, it makes me wish they’d found a way to tie the variants into the story in a more meaningful way.

That said, none of these gripes ruined the movie for me. I still had an absolute blast watching it. It’s chaotic in all the best ways, it delivers exactly what you want from a Deadpool film, and most importantly—it made me laugh. Reynolds and Jackman’s chemistry is pitch-perfect, the action is as gloriously over-the-top as you’d hope, and while the movie doesn’t always nail its emotional beats, when it does, it really hits.

Is it the best Deadpool movie? That’s debatable. But did I have an absolute blast watching it? 100%. And in the end, isn’t that what really matters?

The Stark & The Strange

It all happened so fast. None of this was meant to happen…and yet it did. It was meant to be a simple mission, a time heist, to get the stones back and return the millions of people who had turned into dust all by a snap of a certain California raisin alien.

I was taken out of my timeline after going after Loki who was going to ruin the timeline by taking the Tesseract and running of to only God knows where. And that's when they showed up, the TVA, who were playing God, thinking they knew what was better than the rest of us. And that's what led me on this strange journey with Loki and that TVA agent, Mobius.

And then we met the Loki Variant and a Variant of me, a male version of me that went by the name Edwin, that’s when truly all hell broke lose, and it led us on a crazy journey where we met the guy in charge who warned us that if he killed him, more of his variants, worse than him would arise and take his place, and then two Loki Variants shared a kiss, and now Sylvie, had thrown me through a portal to only God knows where where, while Edwin watched in horror, trying to stop her. I didn’t know what to feel.

I knew the neurons in my head were firing faster than I could comprehend. It was too much for me. I didn’t even know how much time had passed. I just wanted to go home, to my dad, to my little sister, to my step-mother, who had become like a mother to me, and to my friends.

I glanced around to find myself in what looked like a haunted house. In this room, there was a clutter of artifacts across the endless tables of chess pieces, but no board in sight, a piano with music sheets scattered all across the floor. I then raised my head and the sight was not…well normal. There was a huge black swirling cloud outside the window, consuming a huge chunk of the sky.

My breath hitched, staring at the sky. Why was this happening? Did we fail? Was this the consequence of messing with time? However, as I wandered out of the room and into the next room, I recognized the building. This was the New York Sanctum, but it looked different. What happened here? Or better yet, where was I transported to?

"Who are you?" A familiar baritone and soothing male voice asked.

My eyes widened. That voice…It tugged at my heartstrings. It had to be him. Please tell me it wasn’t my mind playing cruel tricks on me. I dared to turn around to see that sure enough it was him, Stephen Strange.

I ran over towards him, happy to see him. I was about to run over to him and hug him, but I saw how defensive Stephen became. He took a step back up towards the stairs, narrowing his eyes.

“Who are you?” He pressed.

His words were like a hot dagger that stung and pierced my heart. How could he forget me? I am…well, one of his good friends. I had known Stephen since before his accident, back when he was a neurosurgeon. And I developed a crush on him, one that never went away, but I kept quiet all these years, afraid he didn’t feel the same. I didn’t want to ruin our friendship…

"I am Alma Stark, Alma Maria Stark." I introduced myself.

I had hoped my full name would spark something in him, a hint of recognition. However, there was nothing. It was safe to say this wasn't my universe.

Then again I should’ve known, he looked different. He had a goatee, his hair was longer, and his robes were darker, even his eyes were a darker blue. And what happened to his cloak? Stephen stared at me, inspecting me as he finally stepped down from the stairs.

“Ah, yes, Tony Stark’s daughter.” He nodded.

“Where am I?” I asked.

“I will take a guess that you are from a different universe, so somehow transported into my universe…or what is left of it.” Stephen explained, raising a hand as he motioned to the Sanctum around him.

The walls began to creak as if demonstrating Stephen’s words. I don’t understand what happened here? Did Thanos do something worse here? Or was this something else?

“What happened?” I pressed.

Stephen let out a sigh. “An incursion. I never meant for this to happen…I just wanted to be happy, to be with Christine."

It felt like he took my heart from me, tearing it out of my chest, unable to breathe and tore it up like a piece of paper in front of me. Even in this universe, he loves Christine. Maybe we weren't destined to be together...

Deadpool is straight? Really? 🤔 It's fascinating how people still claim that, especially when you look at how Deadpool 3 was marketed. The character's known for subverting expectations, and his flirtations with both men and women are part of what makes him such a unique anti-hero.
