am ngl i shipped this like four years ago and even drew fanart for it. i think part of it was peer pressure - a lot of people, at least those i was surrounded by at the time, shipped them. even now shundan is considerably more popular than it was back in the early fandom, accounting for the relative fandom size in both. so i shipped it and thought it was fun up until some point last year when i started to rewatch the show again.

i can see why people ship shundan. there's the general appeal of the childhood best friends trope, them working together to make the bakugan game, ep 20, shun attempting to save dan on his own mid-s1, shun catching dan in ep 51, the hilarious "divorce" in ms1. that being said, i dislike how a lot of the shippers ship it.

no, dan is not the most important person in shun's life, and is not his most important dynamic with in the show. that's phoenix. no, dan is not particularly empathetic or super caring of shun. he let their friends think shun was egregious cunt for skipping their zoom meetings instead of simply telling them he lost his mom. he did not care when phoenix left shun in s2 and was visibly upset, he shrugged and laughed. he was the first to get physical with shun in ms1 when shun made the very valid point of dan stepping away from bakugan to ensure other people's safety. shun did not care when dan went missing thrice in new vestroia - it was always either marucho or mira (telling ace and marucho to not fall for shadow impersonating mira and dan, agreeing with ace telling mira that dan doesn't need to be looked for mid-nv, disagreeing with ace saying they have to look for mira and dan first and splitting off from the group with baron to look for the BT System). their whole "childhood besties" part is also all tell no show for me. sometimes it doesn't even feel like they're friends at all.

a lot of the shundan portrayals i've seen are actually how shun and phoenix, runoalice, maruren, or dan and marucho are in canon. which is fine, go have fun, but it's annoying when i've seen people insist that these portrayals are canon. no shun did not give a fuck when dan first disappeared in new vestroia, he took a nap. who gives a fuck about dan when phoenix is missing/in danger? not shun, that's for sure. erasing phoenix's importance to shun to put dan of all characters in her place is cringe, sorry not sorry.

also, i'm pretty sure a big part of why shundan is popular rn is the fact that they're both twinks. like if marucho didn't look the way he did he'd be shipped around way more, especially with dan. but nah, marucho doesn't look like shun and it's shun who looks like shun, so danshun is the one that gains popularity. annoying as hell.

anyway tl;dr i hate this ship and think its overrated and some shippers are delusional and annoying and cringe with how they think this is the bakugan version of narusasu or whatever "it's so misogynistic it's gay" m/m shonen anime ship. they are shipping the bakugan version of kl*nce. the ship they're looking for is either runoalice or maruren. ship those.

In lieu of your last art, didn’t seeing Hydranoid get tortured inspire Keith to become Spectra, rather than the other way around?

Welcome to my Ted talk on Spectra's Character, Topic of today, When did this B-word turn evil?, the Threat 🧵🪡

First I just want to stay clear that I don't know what does it has to do with my Art but I will serve you, that's my job.

It's not the first time I do jokes about Spectra been choke....

Anyway, If I'm not wrong you are asking something that my rol model @marukrawler has posted ones, the Spectra's wing escene...

For more information you can read it, But I will talk about it since I think she forgot some details (I mean is my perspective so you can guess that ALL that I say is purely based in my headcannons)

First of all, If I'm correct, when we are introduced with Spectra in the episode 1 we discoverd 2 things important for the plot, Tigress mention that she (he) is the last Bakugan of the Six new warriors but she (he) will not give up against Helios even if he already bit the other 5 bakugans, I will take this as an important details since we know that Hydron consider that Spectra is the stra ger drawelr of New Vestroia and the Leader of the Vexos (Hex).

I will mention this because a lot of thigs doesn't make sense in this, like they tried to retcon what we have seen so far.

First of all the times doesn't really match, If we not something important Bakugan came to Vestal the same time as Bakugans on Earth since the fracture of the Dimensional trasporter of Profesol Michael did hit.

But why does this is Important?, the Year gaps doesn't really make any sense.

For example, Dan in the first season has 12 years old and (Yes I will take this info from the wiki).

The important thing here is that Mira and Dan are the same Age so I will asume that the flashback of Mira where she lose to Pink wannabe Spectra is basicly when they started to brawl and so Mira is still learning.

It is Important becuase we can asume that time was use foe the Vestals to fine New Vestroia and create the space cities (1 year or 2), so the next step is that Drago when he is still the perfect core he starts to countdown all his friends that had been took by Vexos, putting Hydranoid penultimate before Tigress.

The time gaps doesn't make sense, Spectra was the one that capture all the Bakugan, How did he could be Spectra AND be Keith undercover?

(Apart from using wing)

And there goes my next point, if Spectra was the one that capture Hydranoid is almost imposible that he got corrupted in this moment since he ALREADY was evil, there is a part where Mira could have lie so that brawlers...

Let's rememeber that Mira was the one that told us that Keith turns evil.

I purely think he was evil since the begining.

There is a posibility since Mira at first didn't wanted to tell Dan the true....

I really think that the main reason everyone is so lost with this is becuase Mira tell us a thing but the history may not be the true to cover her brother with a la Lame excuse. To safe the unexistend ass of Spectra.

Since getting back into bakugan and being influenced by spooky month I have had the following brainworm. Professor Clay murder au.

Details of the following au:

-Professor Clay murdered his wife while Spectra/keith was 3 and mira was 6 months old

-He hid her body in a secret location in the house because "He wanted her to stay with him" and also she was smarter than him and that fueled his inferiority complex.

-Somehow one of his kids stumbles upon her body while revisiting their childhood home, Mira makes the most sense based on her writing.

-Bakugan can see ghosts that's how Mira found her mother's corpse.

-This causes Mira to start planning her father's death.

-Mira doesn't tell her brother what happened or what she discovered because she wants to protect him

-Mira doesn't tell anyone, but asks Gus to never let Keith/Spectra be alone with her father, to which he confusingly agrees to.

-Mira attempts to murder her father while with vexos via food allergies but fails

-After Mira reunited with the resistance she told nobody about what she did, but her brother and Gus found out.

-Spectra/Keith was intrigued that Mira did what she did but ultimately decided to leave it alone, Gus on the other hand was frightened and thinks Mira might try again and try to kill Spectra/Keith this time.

-Once he gets better Professor Clay has no inkling to why Mira attempted to kill him

-Eventually it all olccumulated to Mira lashing out that reveals the truth. She was surrounded by her resistance friends and vexos enemies and her father was confronting her out of curiosity. Mira then confessed to what she found.

-Haven't worked out everything yet so this fic idea ends here.

Other details

-Professor Clay's wife had blonde hair and her favorite color was red. She was a smarter scientist than Professor Clay and that made him insecure enough to eventually murder her.

-Professor Clay murdered his wife by drugging her food then strangling her.

-Keith/Spectra doesn't remember much about his mother, but he remembers how her eyes would light up whenever talking about a project she was working on.

-Both Mira and Keith/Spectra will have an emotional/mental breakdown in this story, just not sure when

-As far as Mira is concerned Professor Clay is a monster that needs to be eliminated.

-Spectra subconsciously modeled his appearance after his mother.

-Gus is down for murdering Professor Clay, out of fear for Spectra/Keith's safety and for justice for the woman who had her life stolen from her.
