“Schloss des Schreckens” ("The Innocents") (1961) Miss Giddens (Deborah Kerr) wird vom Onkel und Vormund (Michael Redgrave) der Kinder Miles (Martin Stephens) und Flora (Pamela Franklin) als Gouvernante engagiert. Auf seinem idyllisch gelegenen Landsitz Bly in Essex soll sie die Erziehung der beiden kleinen Kinder übernehmen. Zunächst erscheinen die Geschwister als ebenso bezaubernd wie wohlerzogen, doch der Schein trügt schon bald, denn Miles wurde wegen schamlosem Verhalten vom Internat verwiesen, gibt sich des öfteren vorlaut und ziemlich frühreif, während Flora zum Lügen neigt. Die Haushälterin Mrs. Grose (Megs Jenkis) erzählt Miss Giddens von deren Vorgängerin Miss Jessel (Clytie Jessop), die dem Hausverwalter Peter Quint (Peter Wyngarde) hörig war, nach seinem Tod in geistige Umnachtung fiel und sich ertränkte. Zu ihren Lebzeiten hatten Beide immensen Einfluss auf Miles und Flora. Miss Giddens, der die Geister der beiden Verstorbenen erscheinen, gelangt zu der Überzeugung, dass Quint und Miss Jessel sich der Seelen von Miles und Flora bemächtigen wollen …
