The first Pride was a riot!!!!! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈 Marsha P. Johnson was a Transgender, Black woman with HIV and without her the rights that LGBTQAAI2S peoples have today wouldn’t have happened had she not fought against police brutality and worked tirelessly to help local members of the LGBTQ+ community. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈 As well as being a leader in LGBTQ protests and rallies, she was Marsha was a prominent figure in the Drag community. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈 Unfortunately cis gender LG members of the community actively worked to push Marsha and other people like her out of the conversation, thinking it’d be “too hard” to get for them to be seen like “everyone else” if they were present in all their glory! 😞🏳️‍🌈😞 Despite this, Marsha stayed in the community, marching, organizing and caring for friends who were swallowed up in the AIDS epidemic of the 80’s. 🖤🏳️‍🌈🖤 Despite all her involvement within the community and all the joy that she brought to a space, the police initially ruled her death (her body was found floating in the Hudson) and only after massive outcry and protests, was her death changed to “unexplained drowning”!!! 😞🖤🏳️‍🌈 As of 2012 the case was reopened and remains open!!!!! Reframing The Future Amid continued protests and calls for racial justice, a group of creatives is raising funds for two Black-led social justice organisations. Starting June 16, 2020 the 'Reframing the Future' initiative is placing works from over 50 photographers and graphic designers on sale. Featuring works from both established and emerging artists — including the likes of Kyle Weeks, Markn, Cruz Valdez and Camila Falquez — the prints range from $25 to $100 with 100 percent of the proceeds going toward the Black-led 'National Bail Out' collective and 'Marsha P. Johnson Institute' an organisation advocating for Black trans people. Entirely volunteer-based ‘Reframing the Future’ seeks to bolster organisations that divest from the country's current policing and incarceration systems in favour of long-term, community-led organisation from the Black community. Johnson Institute. - Advocacy  for the human rights of trans-gender people. - 16th St. & Union Square  NYC I chose this outfit because it's extremely hot, it's like 90 degrees. I wanted to just be easy and breezy today Also to be super chill, I didn't want anything high maintenance I didn't want to do heels. I'm running around in the city and it just felt good to be comfortable, and relaxed. I got these shades at a thrift store in Columbus Ohio. called Rare Vintage. They just looked really super cool. I love the wing detail. It's always good to have these on a hot day.

Reframing The Future You'll probably recognise the names of some of the photographers and graphic designs Kyle Weeks, Peter Ash Lee and Ekua King — they've shot for companies like ‘Nike’ and for publications like ‘New York Times Magazine’ and ‘Vogue’. They are amongst the dozens of photographers and graphic designers who have signed on to donate works to an initiative that promises to give all proceeds to Black communities, namely through the 'National Bail Out' and the 'Marsha P. Johnson Institute'. The art sale has been named ‘Reframing the Future’ and was founded by a group of creative colleagues united by a common goal of becoming stronger allies. The art sale will run from June 16 to June 30, 2020 via rtfprintsale.com.
