I'm back home from my musical theatre trip to Stockholm and I'm still exhausted and on a musical theatre high. I saw three very different musicals who all left me with a lot of thoughts and feelings.
* Änglagård was intense, to say the least. I'm still processing it and I feel that I need to see it again to get a a full grasp of it.
Some thoughts: Fredrik Lycke singing 'Farfars händer' was absolutely beautiful, Helen Sjöholm is perfection, the set is beautiful and they really know how and when to use projections, the second act is quite a lot to take in, there's a lot going on there, beforehand I thought that the music and songs would be similar to Så som i himmelen, but it has it's own style and 'personality', I feel like Fanny was kind of underused. I think that the creators could have spent more time working on her character and given her one more song. Like I said, I'm still processing it. But it has a lot going for it.
* Moulin Rouge! was a real highlight of my weekend. I went into it a bit hesitant ( for various reasons) but I liked it so much more than I thought I would and I had so much fun:D It worked so much better at Chinateatern than I thought it would and Andreas Wijk won me over about halfway through the second act. It's visually stunning, it's got some great mashups that are stuck in my head, the choreography is fantastic and everyone on stage gave 100%. Marsha Songcome is a true superstar, she was made for the role of Satine.
* The one is very different from any other musical I've seen. Especially compared to other Swedish original productions. It was really interesting seeing a completely original musical that isn't based on a book or a movie. I really appreciate their intentions, to make a musical about young dancers and their lives, dreams and struggles. It's got a great cast of young talented performers trained in different styles of dance and with different backgrounds. (It's a very diverse cast too)
The choreography is (of course) amazing and the set is quite simple, but very effective and creates stunning visuals. The script could use some tweaks to make it flow better, but it's very promising. I would love for them to tweak it and bring it back again.

1, 2, 3, 4, and 10 for Hamilton asks!
A/N: @crackerqueen-ineedsleep thank you so much for the ask!!! I really appreciate it!!! Thank you!!
1. Your favorite character.
(I’m 95% sure I’ve answered this but I don’t mind. It’s fun!)
Disclaim: the views expressed are my opinion and not relating to object facts. Thank you.
UGZgH. I love this musical SO much, it’s so hard to pick. I know my favorite character which is... Eliza Schuyler!!! Homegirl has the most time in the musical and every time she sings it’s magic!! And without OG Eliza Schuyler Hamilton, the musical wouldn’t exist due to her due diligence of making sure Hamilton got credit for his work.
(Please don’t make me do a top ten, it’s too hard. (I’m kidding btw, I’m just being dramatic AF))
2. The song that gets stuck in your head.
*snickers*
Non-stop.
I’m sorry but that song plays on repeat in my head more times than I should care to admit. I do go through weird periods of time where I listen to Burn a million times (I recently discovered first Burn and it’s!! Amazing!!).
But yeah just thinking about it....
After the war, I went back to New York—
I’ll stop...this time.
3. The character you’d chill with.
I’m not gonna lie, I would love to chill with Lafayette. Mostly to hear him talk forever. He is a hero of two worlds. Also, I think he would be happy to hear about all the monuments dedicated to Washington. Plus, he’d want to talk about all the stuff that’s happened since he passed away.
If Laf wasn’t available, I got a list of historical figures I would def chill with. I would only chill with Ham if Eliza was present though. Hamilton’s temper is 110% infamous. He gotta away with it cause he was so hot.
4. The real person you would chill with.
Well my family member got to meet Tamar Green so...
I dunno. I think I would want to meet with Ariana DeBose because she is one of the inspiration for the blog name. I had read an interview she did talking about how her role in the ensemble was different than everyone else’s. She had to do a ton of foreshadowing and essential plays a role in both Burt’s and Hamilton demise. She made a remark that everyone else in the ensemble would be like “what are you doing?” Or something like that. I would probably just chill and listen to her talk about the imagery and talk to her about being on broadway and if she plans on playwriting.
10. The part you’d play of you could.
Honestly? I know I can’t act worth anything so I would want to play as the Bullet. I use to be able to dance (not as good) so it would be a real treat to learn those moves in the ensemble. I don’t think this gets said enough but without an ensemble a show would fall apart. Little parts are just as important as big parts. Everyone who works on a musical deserves just as much recognition as the stars.
(I use to think Eliza Schuyler but I could never ever reach the god talent like Alysha Deslorieux, Ta-Tynisia Wilson, Denée Benton, Lauren Boyd, Julia K. Harriman, Rebecca E. Covington, Morgan Anita Wood, Rachelle Ann Go, Sharon Rose, Marsha Songcome, Hannah Cruz, Charnette Batey, Philippa Soo, and more)
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE ASK!! I enjoyed answering your questions!!
Guys my inbox is open so send me an ask! I love to hear from you all! :)

Assorted Moulin Rouge! Stockholm thoughts:
I think it was Thalia's guidance that led me to the front of the balcony in this performance. You see, I've never been a fan of Moulin Rouge! the movie (mostly because of the way it's edited – the music video kinda style is too fast for me; it already feels like that inside my brain all the time, I don't need any more of that in a cinematic format), and though I've listened to the Broadway cast recording a lot, I wouldn't call myself a fan of the musical either. And yet, when they announced the Stockholm production, I knew I had to go to see it.
So, thank you, Thalia, for your guidance and blessing. The show absolutely slapped all the way through.
However... as I said, I'm not a MR! fan, so this point has probably been made a million times and I just haven't seen it, but: the love story in this is... kinda awful, right? Like, I know it's the whole point that Christian is young and naïve and goes mad with love, but oh man, when he goes full young werther near the end and the dying woman has to talk/sing him out of committing suicide in front of a whole audience of people... dunno, I just think he could've handled Satine's rejection a whole lot better, right?
Also, to me, the story would actually be more touching if Satine wasn't dying quite so actively. I know it's an adaptation of La traviata, I know their use of the dying courtesan character archetype is very deliberate – but even so, to me, it would feel more tragic if Satine had to leave with the Duke in the end, living a rich but empty life as his mistress, with only the memory of her and Christian's song left of her true love. There must be fanfics like this, I gotta go read them.
Anyway, I'm not watching and loving this for the story, I'm watching and loving it for the vibes. And the vibes were 100% right in Stockholm. It's not a serious show or something to be taken seriously at all, it's just kitch and glitz and glamour and fun, but with just enough of a dark edge to keep it interesting to me.
Speaking of Satine, though: as @veilingofthesun wrote, Marsha Songcome was made for the role. I don't really have any insights about the character or the performance (it's hard to analyse perfection), I just want to point out that she was just right for the role.
I promised you Harold Zidler posting, so here goes: I'm in love with Morgan Alling in the role. Like. It's not very girlboss feminist of me, but can't help it, middle-aged musical men are my kryptonite. I knew this was going to happen, and here we are. Alling has such a kind energy somehow, and it suits the role surprisingly well! We're creatures of the underworld, we cannot afford to love my ass – he so clearly loves Satine, not romantically of course, but loves her nevertheless. There was something so real/human about the character to me. I gotta see this again just so I can analyse him further.
Also loved Alexander Larsson as Toulouse-Lautrec. What a voice! And Fred Johanson as the Duke of course – he does a great villain and his voice is to die for, just shame about the awful wig.
Currently, MR! the musical is running in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. They're not Broadway replicas, but they're all replica productions of each other, directed by Anders Albien (+ co-directors from Norway and Denmark, I think). Seeing how they've all premiered a couple of weeks within each other, I'd love to hear about the logistics of the thing – how did the creative team manage three simultaneous productions? (Also, why is Finland not a part of this so-called "Nordic production"? Or might we be getting our share later on? I've no doubt whatsoever that MR! is coming to Finland soon, but I'm curious to see if it'll be this production or something else.)
They sung in English but spoke in Swedish. I understand this musical must be an absolute nightmare to translate, and here, since both of those are foreign languages to me, it didn't bother me too much. But if they do the same thing in the eventual Finnish production of MR!, I think I'll have a bigger problem with it, since having to switch between my native language and a foreign language feels more awkward.
tl;dr: Moulin Rouge! Stockholm slaps and I have to see it again, who's coming with me?
