Wer dachte, mit Kind reist man etwas langsamer, den belehren wir gerade eines besseren (inklusive uns selbst). Fühlt sich Jona oder wir gestresst? Keinesfalls. Es ist einfach nur schön, so viele tolle Orte zu sehen.

Der erste Stopp nach unserer Nacht in der Ruby Bay - Jona frühstückt immer als Erstes noch vor Ort - war ein tolles Café in einem Bootshaus in Nelson direkt am Wasser. Ein sehr gelungener Zufallstreffer. Jona schlief und der Plan, dies gemütlich zu nutzen, klappte auch. Immerhin 10 Minuten lang. Dann wurde halt nacheinander, aber immer noch lecker gegessen.

Danach ging es nur eine halbe Stunde weiter in die Cable Bay. Ziel war ein netter Campingplatz, um mal wieder zu waschen. Jona hatte mit der Sprengung einer Windel gute Argumente für einen solchen Halt geliefert. Der Platz bot alles, was wir brauchten, inklusive einer grünen Wiese für Jona. Denn wir werden immer mobiler. Das dadurch herumliegende Spielzeug weckte aber auch Begehrlichkeiten beim Weka, einem wilden huhnähnlichem Vogel. So wurde Hase Hanno kurzerhand in den Wald entführt, aber nach einer allen Gefahren der Wildnis trotzenden Suche auch wiedergefunden.

Am nächsten Morgen gab es den nächsten Versuch, in einem ganz zauberhaften Café direkt neben dem Campingplatz mit schlafendem Kind zu frühstücken. Nach getrennten Manövern - Steffen machte den Camper klar Schiff, Verena drehte eine kleine Runde mit Jona im Wagen - mit Erfolg. Wir waren begeistert und neigen zur Wiederholung...

Weiter geht die wilde Fahrt. Und nun drohen wir uns zu wiederholen. Aber die Marlborough Sounds sind einfach unverschämt schön und ja, wir werden uns wieder nach Häusern umsehen. Die tausend Buchten, die grünen Hügeln mit versteckten Häusern und das wunderbar blaue Meer lassen aber auch nichts anderes zu. Dieses Mal ist der Plan schon etwas konkreter: Wir kaufen ein Haus und eröffnen ein kleines, feines Bed & Breakfast. Steffen fährt dazu noch LKW in Neuseeland, weil er schon glücklich ist, wenn er hier herumfahren darf. Ihr seid natürlich alle herzlich willkommen.

Die Nacht standen wir wie vor vier Jahren in der Ohingaroa-Bucht, was aber eher Zufall war. Trotzdem ein freier Stellplatz direkt am Meer. Mittlerweile aber angelegt und bekannt. Es dürfen nur vier Fahrzeuge dort stehen und wir haben gerade so den letzten Platz bekommen. Mit uns kam noch eine große Gruppe Motorräder an. Die Jungs waren uns schon einmal am Mt. Cook begegnet. Alle hatten ein Münchner Kennzeichen, was im Neuseeland leicht irritierend ist. Es handelte sich um eine von BMW gesponserte Enduro Tour mit 140 Bikern aus aller Welt, die alle zwei Jahre woanders stattfindet. Für die Foto-Challenge durften wir dann den Kinderwagen bereitstellen...

Counting down days till 2022

What an interesting year it has ended up being, so much has happened, covid has still stuck around.. and now we have the newer variant in NZ although I think it is only at the border. I am frankly just over covid and hearing about it. To pick up from my last post that was in October, last month in November was just busy working, one day I had actually also worked the whole day, an extra 2 hours…

Wedged between Tasman Bay and the Marlborough Sounds sits Rangitoto generally known as D’urville Island. The name is derived from French Admiral Jules Cesar Dumont D’Urville who sailed his corvette Astrolabe through Passe de Francais (French Pass), striking the reef that partially blocked its width and laying his ship on its side. I am quite fascinated by the island’s topography, the rugged coastline and thrashing sea and so I merged, stitched and created a mosaic of the island’s aerial photography dated from 1964 to 65. I think it gives quite an impressive perspective of Rangitoto (red or blood-coloured sky).
