. . Mijn fuck-ups hebben deuren voor me geopend en mij gebracht waar ik nu ben, so let's CELEBRATE! . Wil je jouw hilarische, pijnlijke en/of leerzame fuck-up delen? Brand los 👇 in de comments. . Mark Richt is the food commentator of the people
Miami’s coach has a thing now: sharing wisdom on intake of comfort foods.
Miami head coach Mark Richt has always had an accessible personality, down to his hobbies of amateur meteorology and nature photography. But lately, he’s been asked more and more frequently for dietary advice. It all started at 2017’s ACC media days:
The 10-bite sandwich
Mark Richt's sandwich philosophy is just amazing: pic.twitter.com/Gk3Ou8thhA

Miami's @MarkRicht just diagramed us out "The 10 Bite Sandwich" after someone asked him if a hotdog is a sandwich at #ACCKickoff: pic.twitter.com/oT8QKaW0vK
— RedditCFB (@RedditCFB) July 14, 2017
The best part: calling Bite 3 the “filet of the sandwich.” This man has put a lot of thought into sandwiches, as have all honest Americans. While we’re on the subject of American sandwiches ...
“Hot Dog Delight”
Last year, he gave you the 10-bite sandwich. This year, Mark Richt delivers the recipe for Hot Dog Delight. pic.twitter.com/wj14uQ5SaW
— Andy Staples (@Andy_Staples) July 18, 2018
2018’s ACC media days saw more fun, including this horrifying recipe that ... I will try. Slices of bread, hot dogs, American cheese, and piles of beans, all “hammered” together and then “hammered” with a fork.
See, that angry comment you were about to leave about hot dogs and sandwiches? Coach has transcended all that by literally describing a sandwich by any definition, which includes hot dogs in it. Truly a uniter.
The first reply to this video:
I have driven the UGA coaches to alumni meetings and had Coach Richt want to go eat before flying out. We went to Wendy’s and he got a pile if ketchup as big as a grapefruit on his tray from the dispenser and dipped fries and every bite of his cheeseburger in it...#greatguy

Thanksgiving plan of attack
Mark Richt explains how to properly eat Thanksgiving dinner. His potato philosophy is legit. pic.twitter.com/VstXO6k6cv
— A special place in Hale (@DavidHaleESPN) July 18, 2018
Now we’re getting into Les Miles territory. Both coaches have now laid out the order of Thanksgiving consumption operations, with Richt dropping a BLAM of mom’s spinach souffle first, massive turkey, “more massiver amount of mashed potatoes,” a corpse of butter buried deep within the potatoes, corn atop the taters, “a large amount of stuffing,” “gravy over everything — except for my mom’s spinach souffle,” an itis nap, and a turkey sandwich.
Again, Richt uses the word “hammering.” This is a physical eater.
And for dessert:
Mark Richt on candy, candy corn, his granddaughter's Minnie Mouse costume: pic.twitter.com/lwbdzND6IA
— Matt Porter (@mattyports) November 1, 2017
While selecting candy (York and Butterfinger) from a passerby, Richt expressed a detailed love of the candy corn process (spend your time with the white tip, and then just hammer the rest on in).
“Fruitcake is bad,” Richt added.
There’s also this method for adding some non-squishiness (chef term) to Peeps:
I spent some time with Mark Richt to see what his life is now like in Miami — and what it felt like to leave Georgia after all those years. I also asked for his best food #takes. They did not disappoint. https://t.co/DSKxpgRdho pic.twitter.com/9WGDSQaUsM
— Nicole Auerbach (@NicoleAuerbach) August 20, 2018
Also, his favorite movie has food in its title
youtube
Richt loves Nacho Libre at least as much as you like your favorite movie. This has long been canon.

PC’s PICKS: NCAA Week 1, Part 5
Ed Orgeron's in a nearly impossible position.
Louisiana State wants a winner now, while Orgeron, starting what would be his second full season with the Tigers if the school lets him see it through, has his work cut out for him in making the most with a team that has holes, a cast-off from Ohio State at quarterback and, overall, is one of the most inexperienced young teams in the country.
LSU, a gracious No. 25 in the Associated Press preseason poll, opens tonight against No. 8 Miami at the Deathstar, AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Will Ed Orgeron see his proverbial seat cool or get scalding hot after #LSU meets #Miami today? Get a #TopWager on #LSUvsMIA here: https://t.co/KhMo33gvQY pic.twitter.com/KFoJqvmRWS
— VegasInsider.com (@TwitVI) September 2, 2018
LOSING THEIR EDGE: If things don't go swimmingly in 2018 for the Tigers, Ed Orgeron's time at Louisiana State may be over sooner than later.
Starting at quarterback for the Tigers will be Joe Burrow, who threw just 39 passes in two years with the Buckeyes in 2016 and 2017 behind J.T. Barrett.
Orgeron and LSU finished a respectable 9-4 in 2017 with a 6-2 mark in the Southeastern Conference. This year, the schedule isn't quite as kind as the Tigers, aside from opening with Miami, LSU faces Auburn and an improved Florida on the road and get Alabama in Baton Rouge, but it's a week where the Crimson Tide come off a bye.
Upstart Miami, back with veteran coach Mark Richt now in his third year, cruised to 10-0 in 2017 before being surprised by Pittsburgh and falling to Clemson in the Atlantic Coast Conference title game.
The Hurricanes have seven starters back on each side of the ball, including senior quarterback Malik Rosier.
They’ve had growing pains together, but UM’s Mark Richt and Malik Rosier ready to roll. https://t.co/EXo5x8e8fX pic.twitter.com/IzGnayIlHw

HURRICANE MALIK: Miami quarterback Malik Rosier and head coach Mark Richt are back for another season, one where expectations are high for the Hurricanes.
Through Saturday night, my picks have gone 28-11-2 in this opening week, with LOCKS going 5-2.
I'll also call this game a LOCK this evening and take Miami and the points (-3.5).

Mark Richt announces he is stepping down as head coach at Miami
Just a few days after Miami was demolished 35-3 by Wisconsin in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl, Hurricanes head coach Mark Richt has announced he is stepping down.
Richt said in a statement on Sunday morning that he is retiring from coaching. He thanked the university and made it clear that the decision was his alone and he was not pushed out.
Statement from @MarkRicht: pic.twitter.com/Sk05JlvQN2
— Miami Hurricanes (@MiamiHurricanes) December 30, 2018
A report after Miami’s bowl loss indicated Richt was open to making offensive changes with the program, as he had not been able to replicate the pro-style offense at Miami that he ran with so much success at Georgia. The Hurricanes were among the worst FBS programs this year in total offensive yardage and passing yards per game.
While Richt’s third season with Miami was a disappointment, the 58-year-old’s decision to step down is a major surprise. He took the Hurricanes to the Orange Bowl last year and appeared to be a good quarterback away from having a national championship contender. While Richt says he is retiring, it would not be a surprise if we see him coaching again in the future.

Mark Richt’s live tweeting ‘Nacho Libre’ for his birthday
The Miami head coach turned 58 on Sunday.
On your birthday, you can pretty much do whatever you please, it’s your day! There’s a variety of ways people choose to celebrate their birthdays. On Sunday, Miami head coach Mark Richt was celebrating his 58th birthday. How did he choose to ring in the big day? By watching the movie Nacho Libre, of course.
Watching Nacho Libre with my wife on my birthday! It doesn’t get any better than this! U Family pic.twitter.com/x6lWxONbaj

Maybe I’m the only one, Richt live-tweeting this movie is hilarious to me.
More fun! pic.twitter.com/OCy4MM1DhD
— Mark Richt (@MarkRicht) February 18, 2018
If you aren’t familiar with the Jack Black film from 2006, it’s about a monk who pursues his dream of being a Mexican wrestler, or Luchador. Yes, the film is as ridiculous as it sounds:
youtube
Richt doesn’t exactly not strike me as a Nacho Libre on his birthday kind of guy, but again — he can do what he wants!
The Canes head coach is one of the most likable, and straight-laced guys in college football. For example, after Miami’s win over FSU last season, some Canes players began simulating digging a grave over the FSU logo. Richt came in hot and put a stop to that real quick, to say the least.
#Canes coach Mark Richt telling his players to get off the Seminole head after #Miami win #GoCanes pic.twitter.com/Vv3qqztDVv
— Carlos Pineda (@CarlosFPineda) October 8, 2017
The rebuke was swift, and there’s an audible “ass” in there. Richt was, at least for a moment, pretty upset about this.
There are likely a few things at play. First, Richt got his biggest break in coaching from his time at Florida State. He was Bobby Bowden’s offensive coordinator, and from there became Georgia’s head coach. There’s an ingrained respect for the institution. There’s also the fact that he knows that that will become bulletin board material for next season for the Noles, and tempers might have flared if there happened to be any FSU players still around.
Richt is also a pretty pious fellow. It’s not a veneer, and that’s not me poking fun. He’s just a pretty staunchly Christian man.
One of his former players, Garrison Smith, said this about him a few years ago:
“I’ve seen coach Richt so mad one time that he almost said a cussing word. He said fiddlesticks,” Smith said. “A lot of people put on that façade of being a Christian guy and it’s just a tool that they use. I can honestly say, and I’m a stand-up guy, that coach Richt, he’s a genuine guy.”
But it’s not like Richt can’t have some fun.

Jeremy Pruitt’s comeback to an ex-UGA QB’s criticism involves kindergarten
Welcome to July in the SEC.
This is more a cheeseburger slider than a whole plate of SEC Media Days beef, but the oddest drama of that event so far is a mostly one-sided exchange between a former Georgia quarterback who’s now a CBS Sports analyst and a former Georgia assistant who’s now Tennessee’s head coach.
The QB lobbed an aggressive opening salvo.
On Tuesday, ex-UGA QB Aaron Murray went on radio and said a bunch of stuff about why he doesn’t think ex-UGA defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt was the right hire in Knoxville.
A partial transcript of Murray’s comments comes via Vols blog Rocky Top Talk, after the quarterback talked to 102.5 The Game in Nashville.
“I don’t know if his personality is fit to be a head coach. I don’t. As a head coach, there’s so many things that go into it. It’s not just going out there and coaching. You have to deal with front office. You’ve got to go talk with the president of the university. You have to deal with boosters. You have to deal with the offense, the defense. It’s not just going in there and dealing with the kids and scheming up. There’s a lot that goes into it.
I don’t think he’s the right guy to kind of be the CEO of a corporation. He’s really good managing just a defense and being a defensive coordinator. He needs to prove to me that he can handle the whole ship. For right now, I don’t think he can. We’ll see what happens this year. I don’t think it helps that he doesn’t have a lot of talent at Tennessee.”
Murray also criticized “the way [Pruitt] treated” then-head coach Mark Richt during their time in Athens. Murray was gone from the program by then, but he might be relaying second-hand accounts from people he knew who were still there:
“When he was at Georgia, the way he acted, the way he treated Coach Richt I thought was poor. He wasn’t as respectful as I thought a defensive coordinator should be to a head coach. That’s my thing, with authority.
When he’s dealing with the athletic director, when he’s dealing with the president, when he’s dealing with a booster who has given millions of dollars, you can’t go tell him to screw off. You have to take the meeting. You have to sit with them. Yeah, I know you want to be game planning and getting ready for the game, but you’re a head coach now. You have to do these other things.”
It’s not clear how Murray would know about Pruitt’s dealings with Tennessee boosters since taking the Vols job, but let’s put that aside. Murray is probably alluding to some reported disagreement between Richt and Pruitt in 2015, the last year both spent in Athens.
Various reports that year said there was friction between the two over how the program should be run. At one point, Richt felt he had to tweet to convince people he wasn’t about to fire or lose his coordinator:
Just so everyone knows, Jeremy Pruitt is our defensive coordinator and is in the office working diligently getting ready for Kentucky!
— Mark Richt (@MarkRicht) November 5, 2015
Things worked out fine for all parties involved. Richt got fired, but Miami quickly hired him, and he’s done great there. Georgia got Kirby Smart. Pruitt became a national championship-winning coordinator at Alabama and then Tennessee’s head man.
All of that’s to say that none of this probably matters anymore. And to that point, Pruitt’s response is just to look at his resume.
#Vols coach Jeremy Pruitt on Aaron Murray’s criticism: I don’t really know Aaron, but I had a lot of respect for him as a player. But I will say I was a kindergarten coach 15 years ago, and now I’m the head coach at Tennessee. That don’t happen if you don’t treat people well.
— Wes Rucker (@wesrucker247) July 18, 2018
Pruitt really did used to be a kindergarten teacher. He talked about his time in the classroom when the Vols hired him in December:
During his interview with Tennessee Chancellor Beverly Davenport, Pruitt told her about teaching kindergarten through third grade PE classes. He said he taught every child in Fort Payne how to tie their shoes from 2001-2004.
”I also told her that I started suggesting Velcro,” Pruitt quipped.
Layton Powell, 21, was in Pruitt’s classes at Wills Valley from kindergarten through the second grade.
Powell and his friends still laugh at some of the stories from those days. Like the time Pruitt pretended Powell was in trouble after kicking a soccer ball into the rafters and threatened to call his mom, sending Powell crying into the corner. Or the different twist Pruitt put on dodgeball by having no boundaries and calling it “Demolition Ball.”
”He would just sit over on his chair yelling in his Southern drawl with a bunch of kids running around the gym like crazy,” Powell said. “He was always playing around with us and having fun. We always had a blast. We were just little kids, but we loved those classes.”
Like most things said during SEC or any other conference media days, this mini-beef will likely have no effect on the season.
But in July, there’s nothing like some good, old-fashioned, uncut disagreement between two guys who used to be loosely on the same side of a rivalry and now aren’t.

Mark Richt apologizes for Orange Bowl meltdown
It’s safe to say Miami coach Mark Richt lost himself for a moment during the Orange Bowl, and he’s now looking back with some regret.
Richt completely lost his cool during Miami’s Orange Bowl loss, yelling at and grabbing a referee in a rage over what he believed to be several questionable calls or non-calls. While not extremely repentant after the game, Richt was a bit more apologetic after seeing the footage of his outburst.
After seeing TV copy of our game I want to apologize for my language and the putting of my hands on the official and my staff. I did not show the proper respect to the authorities of our game.
— Mark Richt (@MarkRicht) January 1, 2018
Richt made the right move apologizing. Being fired up about some of the officiating is understandable, but his reaction crossed a line.

Mark Richt confirms Malik Rosier is still Miami’s starting QB
Mark Richt made it clear after Friday’s upset loss to Pitt that Malik Rosier is still the Hurricanes’ starting quarterback despite a brief benching.
Here’s what the Miami head coach tweeted about Rosier after the 24-14 defeat.
For the record Malik Rosier is our starting quarterback. U Family!
— Mark Richt (@MarkRicht) November 24, 2017
Rosier struggled throughout the game, failing to hit open receivers or conduct drives. He was 15 of 34 for 187 yards and two touchdowns. He was sacked multiple times in the game. Because of his poor play, Rosier was benched late in the fourth in favor of Evan Shirreffs. But after one drive on the sidelines, Rosier re-entered the game and threw a touchdown pass.
After the game, the junior QB took responsibility for his bad game.
Malik Rosier: "A lot of it started with me. I missed open receivers. … I've got to motivate [the offense] in the first half." https://t.co/VwD1ZsLRRO
— Matt Porter (@mattyports) November 24, 2017
Rosier needs to regain his confidence because Miami has a huge game against Clemson in the ACC Championship Game next weekend, with a playoff berth on the line.

The U is finally fun again, but in a very Mark Richt kind of way
After years of failing to remind anybody of the glory days, the Canes are starting to carry themselves a little bit more like the Canes again.
In Week 6, the Miami Hurricanes finally beat the Florida State Seminoles, breaking a streak that’d dated back to 2009. With the victory, the Canes also hit 4-0 for the first time since 2013.
It would appear that Miami, now ranked No. 11 in the country, finally has its swag back, but it’s not the exact same swag that was the trademark of the program from the late 1980s to the early 2000s.
Let’s take a quick trip down memory lane.
The U’s dynasty dates back 30 years, when the Hurricanes found massive success, with national titles in 1983, 1987, 1989, 1991, and 2001 — but with a non-traditional style.
The U’s identity was being the team that came off the plane wearing army fatigues before the 1987 Fiesta Bowl and the program that later inspired the NCAA to create taunting rules.
youtube
Miami fans loved it. Younger college football fans loved it. A lot of people hated it. But in the decades since, as the program tried to clean up its image, a lot of supporters — such as 2 Live Crew’s Uncle Luke — worried the program was erasing its identity.
Miami’s now consciously referencing its classic era, but with new twists.
There’s physical evidence of this — Miami’s turnover chain! Every time a Canes defensive player forces a turnover, he’s donned with a very Miami-esque piece of jewelry.
Baller. http://pic.twitter.com/RxM7SBwnv5
— Canes Football (@CanesFootball) September 2, 2017
According to the Sun-Sentinel, two weeks before the season started, UM cornerbacks coach Mike Rumph called a Miami jeweler to ask if he could make a rope chain.
“Naw, man,” chimed in [former Miami Hurricane Vince] Wilfork, recently retired after a 13-year NFL career. “We got to do the Cuban link, AJ!”
The consensus among the three was a collective “Hell yeah!”
“In Miami, what are we famous for? We’re famous for the Cuban chains,” Machado says. “But we need to add a little something to it.
“So we did a big U charm — orange stones, green stones in there to flash it out.”

But Mark Richt’s version of swag is a different than the past.
“Here’s the deal with swag,” Richt said via the Palm Beach Post. “I’ll say this: if you want to dance, go to the club. I’m about whipping somebody on the other side of the ball, OK? That’s what swag is. Swag’s not about how you dress or how you dance or how you try to talk to somebody, all that. That’s a bunch of bull to me. Swag to me is doing your job and doing it well and whipping somebody across the ball.”
He’s explained this philosophy to his players in pregame:
youtube
“Everybody talks about Miami having ‘swag,’” Richt said before 2016’s Appalachian State game. “When I took this job, all they wanted to talk about [was], ‘Is Miami getting the swag back?’ I said, ‘You know what? Swag ain’t dancing to me. Swag ain’t saying, ‘I got a first down.’ Swag ain’t swaying before a kickoff and they run back to the 45-yard line.
“Swag is whooping the man on the other side of you! That’s what swag is. Swag is, when the game’s over, we win the game! That’s what swag is.
“I don’t care what the boys did in the past. The reason why it was swag is because they WON! Not because they had some kind of antic. You understand what I’m saying? I’m counting on every one of you guys to whoop the man across from you, EVERY. SINGLE. PLAY.”
After Miami’s win over FSU, he stopped his team from doing a very “The U” thing.
Some of the Canes players began simulating digging a grave over the FSU logo. Richt came in hot and put a stop to that real quick, to say the least.
#Canes coach Mark Richt telling his players to get off the Seminole head after #Miami win #GoCanes http://pic.twitter.com/Vv3qqztDVv

That doesn’t mean Richt’s Miami is boring.
"I've been coaching 33 years and I've never had more fun than just now." - @MarkRicht http://pic.twitter.com/1rDASp4VI6
— Canes Football (@CanesFootball) October 9, 2017
He’s continued his backflipping-off-a-high-dive tradition at Miami, which he did each offseason in Athens.
Richt’s annual summer camp in Coral Gables is dubbed Paradise Camp. Last summer, he had a slew of former legendary Canes on-hand for it, including Ed Reed, Jeremy Shockey, Willis McGahee, Michael Irvin, Jonathan Vilma, Wilfork, and Devin Hester.
As a former Hurricane himself, Richt’s got an inside pull on the recruiting trail already.
“I understand the pride and traditions of the University of Miami, academically, athletically, football in particular. I know what it’s about,” Richt said via the Miami Herald. “I came close to being on a national championship team, left in ‘82 and that ‘83 team was the one. … I do understand what’s expected and really, I don’t want to make a lot of promises other than I’m going to promise we’re going to get to work and we’re going to try to earn the right for victory. It’s a process and it does take a lot of work, it takes a lot of people doing things the right way.”
His 2017 recruiting class ranked finished 12th in the nation, Miami’s best since 2013.
He’s even rocking a goatee now, which he didn’t have at Georgia.
So hey, I guess this could qualify as Richt’s swag!
To be honest, it kind of looks like the Evil Mark Richt goatee that EDSBS created for him back in 2012:
Evil Richt does all of the things Mark Richt did in 2007, encouraging outlandish celebrations, winning games, throwing caution to the wind, and calling plays that work more than once or twice in a football game. Mythologically, he is the harbinger of victories and the antithesis of the Bobo-guard, the living avatar of Mark Richt's often beneficial and always frustrating conservatism.
Conservative UGA Richt might’ve called for something safe to set up a game-tying field goal late against Florida State, but Miami Goatee Richt called a shot to the end zone to beat the Noles right then and there.
Whether Miami’s program is truly BACK or not, Canes fans certainly are.

Miami still has a lot of big games in front of it, including a home game against Georgia Tech this Saturday, some road games, and Virginia Tech and Notre Dame. But this is already an exciting season and Miami team, and I can’t wait to see what it does for the rest of the year.
Especially if defensive tackle Kendrick Norton keeps playing guitar on rival quarterbacks’ legs, something the Canes of old definitely would’ve appreciated.
