Rewind TV - 28 years
Today I bring a typical scene of the Portuguese TV from the late 80’s.
youtube
In 1988 the closing of the issue was so different from now (there were only two channels … and they didn’t work all day/24h). The Portuguese TV was quite different from today. We can see it by the way of the host ( Valentina Torres) address to the public and their posture. It’s not usual the use of chroma key at the time.
At the end of the daily tv broadcast, we can listen the national anthem, followed by the technique point the mire until the early morning (9 AM).
It’s hard to look at these images without feeling a sense of nostalgia (for those who lived at that time … )
A funny detail about this video, is that my father recorded a VHS tape with the movie that Valentina Torres talks - Superman II: The adventure continues. I lost count of the number of times I saw that movie in my childhood :) Now I know what day it was…
P.S. : 12h32 AM … It was time to go to sleep

LEGO Films
The first film known as an LEGO animation was "The Magic Portal" created by Lindsay Fleay, and was produced between 1985 and 1989, with the duration of 16 minutes. Since then much has changed in the process of carrying out this kind of movies. Analog media it’s not necessary anymore and in the present days it’s relative easy to edit sound and video, unlike what’s happening in the 80s.
Over the years, the use of LEGO parts for the creation of animated films has gained many fans, resulting in the creation of several online communities (ex: Best Bricks and Bricks in Motion). These films are usually shot in stop-motion (consisting of photographing frame by frame and later creating the illusion of movement). They are known as LEGO movies, Brickfilms or Legomations. Most of these animations are recreations of famous scenes in cinema, (re) creation of music videos, but there are also stories created from original scratches.
This growing interest in this videos is due to several factors such as the fact that the digital photographic equipment, as well as animation and video software, are increasingly affordable and accessible to most of the public, and the rise Web 2.0 platforms like youtube. These platforms currently are powerful mechanisms for sharing, dissemination and creative discussion.
The fact that there is great interest in these films, made with the own LEGO have created a line of products "LEGO Studios" which featured a webcam video recording software, as well as accessories that facilitate the movement of the parts/models. The fact that the camera doesn’t have a lot of quality, has meant that most enthusiasts don’t bought this product, continuing to use their own cameras and lenses.
Currently, LEGO encourages the creation of animations, reaching even to pay companies to carry out.
The first LEGO movie was the Magic Portal.
youtube
The film tells the story of a LEGO Group astronauts who find a magical Portal aboard their spacecraft. This portal will be a door to reveal a world full of adventure and danger ... while it reveals all the information about their existence.

TOP 5 of 2015
Hi there!!! It’s time to a very superficial analysis of the movies that I saw last year (pop corn style).
My top 5 of 2015:
1 - Star Wars : Episode VII – The Force Awakens
A new Star Wars movie is always an important happening over the entire globe. I think this is the movie that everybody wants since 1983. The prequels are fine (episode III is better than episode II and episode II is better than episode I) but there is a lot of CGI on the screen and there is a lack on characters development. Episode VII brings Han Solo, Luke, Leia, Chewie, R2D2, C3PO and a lot of new characters for this universe with a lot of fans over the planet.
2 - Kingsman : The Secret Service
I know this is a 2014 movie, but the release date in Portugal of this movie was only on February. It took Kingsman: The Secret Service to make me reflect on a topic that clearly walked to avoid: the current 007 films with Daniel Craig (very good films) have a lack of slapstick. The big question is: would the slapstick a bad thing? When I think of the things i loved about 007 I grew up with, the overwhelming majority of them was slapstick: Surreal plans to world domination by villlains bigger than life. Kingsman is a funny and clever blockbuster with all the slapstick of the old Bond movies (Sean Connery and Roger Moore era). This movie also have an amazing funny, subversive and violent scene… a guilty pleasure.
3 - Mad Max
A movie about an apocalyptic world about a road trip with lots of adrenaline, cars, flames, explosions, desert sand storms, girls, guitars, rock, chains, decapitations and extreme violence. 100% pure fun.
4 - Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
The major stunt of the Rogue Nation appears in the first 5 minutes of the movie and then its time for Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames and Jeremy Renner to start an amazing ride with stunts bigger than life (and this is what we want in a blockbuster). Every new Mission Impossible entry is better than the last one. Maybe one of the secrets of the M.I. series is the change of style of each director.
5 - San Andreas
I always had a passion for disaster movies. The Towering Inferno, The Poseidon Adventure, Dante’s Peak, The Day After Tomorrow and 2012, are some of my cinematic guilty pleasures. Movies about a cataclysm (or a lot of them) that destroys emblematic buildings and major cities will be always a nice choice for a weekend session.

Representation of the Douro River in Manoel de Oliveira’s Filmography - Part 2
The relation between the Douro river and Manoel de Oliveira is very intense for several reasons. First, it reveals the river as a landscape element with very versatile qualities. Second, it emphasizes its latent presence in various places and times of our lives (as human being). The river plays an important role in our thinking, more than what we can imagine. It’s present in religion, philosophy and history, involving up so intrinsically in our language and thought. The river is an element with several layers. Over the years, it has become a cultural symbol, supporting a large number of connotations and meanings. These cultural connotations don’t arise naturally out of nowhere. They are due in large part to the physical characteristics of rivers and how the surrounding populations interpret them.
The man is confronted with his presence during his experience, facing the river as a threat, as an obstacle, as an ally in its defense, or as a transport route. The river is a supplier of energy and food, an irrigator from their fields, and on the other side can be a destructive element, when it overflows, ruining all the work of man. All the properties attributed to the river almost immediately originate a great duality and become even contradictory, taking as an ally and an enemy, having the power to give and take life.
If water allows the cultivation and development of agricultural production and also contributes to the development of cities, it’s also the cause of their devastation. This ambiguity present in the river, shaped the look of man in relation to these waterways.
In addition to having several layers, as it causes discomfort to the human being as a landscape element, the river becomes an landscape film by excellence. The mountain, unlike the river, is a static element with a timeless perfection, having clearly defined and finite characteristics that allow the man looking at them easily.

Hello World!!!
Hello!!!
It’s difficult to find better way to start a blog than a “Hello World”, the most basic syntax of a programming language.
Why the title Glitch Heritage??? I am a big fan of visual artifacts created by accidents in digital media. These visuals artifacts are the result of glitches, compressions, and other forms of noise. Although many people perceive these accidents as negative experiences, I prefer to emphasize their positive consequences. It's the aesthetic of being wrong. I also had a (re)blog atticofglitches.tumblr.com, where i storage a lot of “errors” that i found on the web. The main themes of my creative work are cultural heritage, memories, technology, exploration of hacking and recycling. My first job also had a big connection with cultural heritage.
Who am I? My name is Mário, a guy who lives in Espinho, a very nice place near the sea in Portugal. Ever since I was a little kid, photography, cinema and computers have been a huge passion of mine. Naturally, i decide to create this blog with the purpose of complement my web site www.marioruisilva.com and express my thoughts and opinions in various themes around art, cinema and technology.
Hope you enjoy it!!!
