Inside Denver’s struggles to diversify its $700M marijuana market
Ari Cohen was set up for success in Denver’s trailblazing weed market. The New Jersey native had a successful career in the food and hospitality industry in New York City. He parlayed that experience into running operations for a multi-state marijuana edibles brand after moving to Colorado more than five years ago. And Denver is home to one of the most mature marijuana markets in the world, with…

Trinidad is the home rule municipality that is the county seat and the most populous municipality of Las Animas County, Colorado, United States.[7] The population was 8,329 as of the 2020 census.[8] Trinidad lies 21 mi (34 km) north of Raton, New Mexico, and 195 mi (314 km) south of Denver.
Trinidad was dubbed the "Sex Change Capital of the World",[25] because a local doctor had an international reputation for performing sex reassignment surgery. In the 1960s, Stanley Biber, a veteran surgeon returning from Korea, decided to move to Trinidad because he had heard that the town needed a surgeon. In 1969 a local social worker asked him to perform the surgery for her, which he learned by consulting diagrams and a New York surgeon. Biber attained a reputation as a good surgeon at a time when very few doctors were performing sex-change operations. At his peak he averaged four sex-change operations a day, and the term "taking a trip to Trinidad" became a euphemism for some seeking the procedures he offered.
Drop City, a counterculture artists' community, was formed in 1965 on land about 4 mi (6.4 km) north of Trinidad. Founded by art students and filmmakers from the University of Kansas and University of Colorado at Boulder, Drop City became known as the first rural "hippie commune",[27] and received attention from Life and Time magazines, as well as from reporters around the world.[28]
In 2015 Trinidad started to experience a new boom due to the marijuana industry. The town raised $4.4 million in tax revenue from $44 million in annual marijuana sales, about 5.13% of the state's total sales.[29][30] In 2018 High Times called Trinidad "Weed Town, USA", noting that its 23 licensed retail marijuana dispensaries serving less than 10,000 people amounts to one dispensary per 352 people. "In one downtown block alone along Commercial Street, there were five dispensaries in a single building in town which the owner referred to as the "World's First Pot Mini Mall",[31] others call it the 'weed mall'.[32]

Ok but like I’ve been thinking about this for a long time but istg Bob has the voice of an angel and is a hardcore fan of John Denver. I’ve been stuck on the idea of him singing his Annie’s song when proposing or something
pairing: Robert "Bob" Floyd x Female!Reader genre: fluff warnings: marijuana usage masterlist | Bob Floyd Masterlist note: Annie's Song is probably my favorite John Denver song like ever.
Tumblr media
There were a lot of thing about Bob that people didn't know, one of them being that Bob could sing. It wasn't just the average "sing in the shower or car" type of singing. It was the type of singing that gave people record deals and awards. His voice was soft and smooth with a twang of country accent. Bob could also play the guitar, thats how the two of you met.
You worked at a local music store and Bob came in one day asking for a record that you had saved away for yourself. It was his cute adorable features that pulled you in and his great taste in music. You had given Bob the record from your under the counter stash and he felt bad. You assured him that it was okay, and he invited you over to come listen to it. And it seemed as though ever since that night, you never left.
Bob's favorite form of intimacy was lying in your room, the various candles you had lit giving it a soft glow, the sweet scent of sex still in the air, your bodies barely covered in undergarments, listening to some soft rock record or Bob playing the guitar. Sometimes there was a joint or a cigarette shared between the two of you.
Bob had been thinking of this night for a while. He was on leave for the time being, and had brought you home with him. After dinner with his parents, he packed up his old truck with pillows, blankets, and his guitar. He had spent the afternoon preparing a spot in the south pasture of his family's ranch. Bob had strung up some lights in an old tree and set up a generator.
You laid on his chest as he strummed away softly on the guitar. You were in nothing but your underwear and his flannel. Bob was only in his jeans. Your hair was messy, and dark purple splotches covered your chest. The two of you laid on the various blankets and pillows that Bob had brought out. There was a soft warm glow of the lights above you. You hummed as you took a drag of the joint he had rolled, and then held it up for him to take.
"Thank you," Bob said, taking a drag, inhaling it and then exhaling it into the summer air.
"No problem, you rolled it, only fair that I share," You smiled.
Bob chuckled and continued strumming. You knew the song he was playing, it was one of your favorite John Denver songs. You pushed yourself up from Bob's chest and climbed out of the back of the truck. Bob watched you with a smile on your face.
"Sing for me," You said, "I wanna dance."
"Pot always makes you dance," Bob said.
"No, your playing makes me wanna dance," You corrected, "Sing Bobby! Sing!"
"Crazy girl," Bob shook his head, fixing his fingers on the strings and began to sing:
"You fill up my senses Like a night in a forest Like the mountains in springtime Like a walk in the rain Like a storm in the desert Like a sleepy blue ocean You fill up my senses Come fill me again."
Bob watched as you twirled around under the lights, feeling the music within your body. You were mesmerizing to watch, Bob could watch you dance for hours. He had been nervous when he first brought you out here, but now he had never been more sure of anything in his life.
"Come, let me love you Let me give my life to you Let me drown in your laughter Let me die in your arms Let me lay down beside you Let me always be with you Come, let me love you Come love me again."
Bob set his guitar gently and you frowned, for only a second as Bob jumped down from the truck. He grabbed you in his arms and kissed you softly. You wrapped your arms around his neck and deepened the kiss. Bob pulled back, and dropped to one knee.
"Oh my god," You gasped, covering your mouth with your hand.
"Y/N, will you-"
"Yes!" You dropped to your knees in front of him and grabbed his face, kissing him.
"I didn't even ask you properly," Bob laughed.
"Okay, ask me."
"Will you marry-"
"YES!"
Bob shook his head, "Crazy girl," and grabbed the ring out of his pocket. He slid it on your finger and kissed your hand.

if you’re hearing I WANNA GET BETTER by BLEACHERS playing, you have to know CHANCE MONROE (HE/HIM; CISMALE) is near by! the TWENTY SEVEN year old ROCKSTAR/VET TECHNICIAN has been in denver for, like, FOURTEEN YEARS. they’re known to be quite CLUELESS, but being COMPASSIONATE seems to balance that out. or maybe it’s the fact that they resemble MASON GOODING. personally, i’d love to know more about them seeing as how they’ve got those BLASTING MUSIC LATE AT NIGHT, PRINTED OUT POSTERS OF HORROR MOVIES, RIPPED JEANS, STARS & SMILE STICKERS, and THOUGHTS SCATTERED ON PIECES OF PAPER vibes. and maybe i’ll get my chance if i hang out around the RINO DISTRICT long enough!
basics
FULL NAME: Chance Monroe
NICKNAME(S): n/a
BIRTHDAY: March 31st
AGE: 27
RELIGION: Agnostic
appearance
HEIGHT: 6′2″; athletic build
HAIR: black
TATTOOS: several all over his body
family
mother (birth): unknown
father (birth): unknown
sibling: wanted connection tba: younger sister
children: one child with charlie
pets: n/a
style
very much the t-shirt and ripped jeans kind of guy. always with a hoodie or a jacket around even if he's seen tossing it aside rather than wearing it. there's often a lingering smell of cigarettes or marijuana. pet hair everywhere despite not owning a pet.
loud noise, loud laughter, a smile so wide and contagious, unruly curls / hair, the sound of a bass, blistered fingers from the bass, headphones slung around his neck, worn-down sneakers, stick-n-poke tattoos, bruises from stunts.
living situation
lives in an apartment in RINO; lives with ripley but many stay there for a night
work
works as a vet technician
bassist for grave danger
about:
tw: neglect
chance remembers what it was life before everything changed the day him and his younger sister were taken from their home. he remembers but he doesn't talk about it to most anyone, so much so that they wouldn't even realize that he does remember the way that he was often the one taking care of his younger sibling. they were often left alone and unchecked for hours that slowly turned into days.
they never made it to school anymore which he learned later was the first sign that something was about to change for them but he was too young to see it then. all he remembered was being in charge, making sure that his sibling was fed and taken care of while his own stomach went empty for too many nights to count.
the people that came promised that they would stay together, the two of them as he never asked what happened to their parents or if they even wanted the two of them anymore.
they bounced around from foster home to foster home for the next five years, barely being able to keep the names straight or where they lived but only that so many of them were disappointed in his inability to read and write at the level that others his age should have been doing.
he'd lost years of being a child by being the primary caretaker of his younger sibling, so much so that he tried his hardest to try and catch up as best he could to the rest of the world. what he didn't realize was that the promise given to an eight year old wasn't going to last forever when the two of them were eventually separated.
he was adopted to a family in denver at 14 and often asked for help in finding their younger sibling but weren't successful as his new family was going above and beyond to help him be successful in other ways. they helped him catch up in school to where he was able to graduate on time rather than constantly being the one that was always one step behind to everything.
he still struggles from time to time, but keeps it to himself as he is rather one to make a joke than take something seriously when it comes to problems that he faces. they've supported him with every aspect or hobby or passion that he's taken on over the years even as he tends to drop them after so long.
only his passion for making music has lasted the test of time, taking lessons when he was younger to joining the band grave danger a few years back. he can't imagine his life without any of them every single day of his life, despite the promises that he's made to his family that he'll continue to pursue another job alongside it.
he believes completely in the music, despite the night classes at a local college to help alleviate his parents' worries about his future and help pay the bills when the gigs don't pay well enough ( or at all ). he works as a vet technician and has for a few years now despite the time that it took him to complete his classes and graduate.
when he was eighteen going on thirty, chance got married to his high school sweetheart and it ended in divorce. they didn't have the timing right which put them at odds as they were both growing up in different directions. it wasn't until after the divorce did they learn that his ex was pregnant, since then they have been co-parents on good terms.
wanted connections
band members: he's the bassist so he definitely needs members of the rest of the band. eventually will be a wanted connection, but feel free to come at me.
one roommate / as he’s living in 2 bedroom by himself at the moment taken by ripley
co-workers / manager / vets / etc. at the vet office with him
adopted family members / he was adopted at 14 to a family in denver and the details are very much open to plotting. sister taken by emily.
groupies / fans / of the band that maybe have recognized him offstage
fwb / he's not one to spend the night alone if he can help it so he's a fan of having a friend that gives off the same vibes that they're looking for a good time together, not one that's super involved
best friend / there's always that ride or die kind of friendship that's stuck it out over the years whether it's someone that he met in a foster home or since being adopted but they've been friends forever.
ex on good terms / someone who was the right person but at the wrong time kind of vibes. maybe they could have lasted but it just wasn't the right time for them so they parted ways but it doesn't make it hurt any less seeing them out there with someone else or vice versa. (taken by charlie)
friends / ex friends / smoke break partner / etc. there's a lot of ones that i can't think up right now but i know they're out there !!

Yo! Denver fucks. Denver, Colorado fucks.
I don't know why my beloved and wonderful MCR fam are poo-pooing the awesomeness that is the Mile High city, but please, if the band wants to kick off the Western contingent of this tour with a bang, they couldn't pick a better place than Denver, Fucking Colorado: The Modern Mecca of American Marijuana. I think you may be assuming that Denver is a little place, so I'm just going to drop a pic of this gorgeous city and say again: Denver fucks.
