This was all I could think of during this scene 😅
I wanted to make a comic that looked just like the show, so I actually used the Boimlers from the show blurred out, but the rest is my art!
(Yes, I am already making a short comic about Mariner "taking" them…. 😈)

Celebrate Marinler Day with They Were Bunkmates!
To pay tribute to the tradition of Spirk fan zines, a team of artists and writers came together for the second anniversary of the episode An Embarrassment of Dooplers, where our duo engrave their names next to Kirk and Spock's (as well as our hearts…) Enjoy a collection of stories, comics, and illustrations exploring and celebrating the love Mariner and Boimler share for each other. ❤️💜
This zine is available for download free!
Any donation will be encouraged to be sent to the Writers Guild Foundation as the work of writers, actors, and artists made the love for these characters possible.

"I think it's cute that Marinler and Boimford have their own in-universe ship names: MariBoims and Brutherford."

Idk if this is an unpopular opinion, but I don't want Mariner and T'Lyn to be rivals, specifically over a man (you know which one I'm talking about). Like I don't mind if they're career or combat rivals, but over a man seems like a boring repeat of the Barb vs. Mariner fight in season one. Not saying women can't dislike each or like the same guy, but I hope the writers subvert fans' expectations and give them a more interesting dynamic with each other. Even if MariBoims were to end up with other people, they are still super important to each other; Mariner is not some one-dimensional mean girl and (hopefully) T'Lyn is not perfect character who is "humble" for Boimler. I already have enough of that shit from some SNW fans crying over Carol Marcus "ruining" Kirk x La'an.
I do have faith in the LD writers that this won't be the case. They've made it clear that Mariner has a lot of issues surrounding loss but it has nothing to do directly with romance, it'd be unnecessary to shoehorn that in. I'm pretty certain T'Lyn is being brought in to contrast how much our main characters have grown.
I....don't even know what to say about anyone getting invested in any SNW pairing pertaining to established TOS characters, cuz Kirk very famously stated that he's married to her job so even if they did get together she was never winning against the Enterprise and probably also Spock lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I really do appreciate LD for trying new things in season 4 w the character dynamics (loved Brutherford and Mari'Lyn is basically sapphic Spirk) bur I hope season five finds a better middle ground between what we got and the Mariboims/Tendiford A/B plots of seasons 1 and 2. Season 3 was a nice balance.
Not me trying to stop being upset about how little Boimler and Mariner interaction we got in season 4 of Lower Decks by reminding myself how little we Plance shippers survived on in the VLD days.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but if Mariner was white and/or Boimler's other love interests like Gibson or Barb weren't white women, do you think the Lower Decks fandom would still be saying Mariboims should just be friends or there's no attraction between them?
I'll preface this by saying that I'm a white, so I'm probably not qualified to answer this question.
It is true that Black women very often tend to get omitted from shipping, and it could be a subconscious contributing factor, but at the end of the day, I don't think that's why some people have a problem with Marinler. It is possible, but I don't think that's the reason, at least not the only one.
I think what it really comes down to is a lack of understanding of what is so appealing about this dynamic, and some preconceived toxic notions about masculinity and gender roles. So it is about bias, but a different kind of bias. Boimler is not your masculine archetype, Mariner is a strong woman. It's reflected in their character designs; their heights are pretty much identical. I think some people have a hard time accepting a ship if it doesn't adhere to their preconceived notion of masculinity and femininity.
Another contributing factor, I think, is the fact that Mariner is not universally liked. Some fans despise her while they like Boimler, so the idea of shipping the two just doesn't sit well with them. Or vice versa. Others think forcing Mariner into a straight relationship would undermine her queerness. Meanwhile, Marinler shippers just see a cute, very shippable dynamic between two people who clearly can't live without each other. There is also the age-old argument of "why can't men and women be just friends?" But I don't really get it considering that Tendi and Rutherford are literally just there, and the shipping of the two is not nearly as prevalent, at least in fanfiction-writing circles.

Do you have any unpopular Lower Decks opinions
That we Marinler fans reeeeeeeally should've went with any other name that search engines aren't going to auto-correct, especially on Twitter, but I guess it's too late to switch to Mariboims lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
But on a more substantial note: as a late-comer on that ship (as in "Crisis Point II where Mariner is trying to comfort Boims after the news of Will's 'death' late"), I don't think everyone who is against the ship is coming in bad faith for being worried that the show will do what even many good shows do when a couple gets together and ruin everything people liked about the original dynamic or that they will only eventually be defined by their romance, not unlike Chapel in SNW (*sigh*)
There's a lot that people should unpack on a macro level for how much more loudly people push this "we need m/f friends" line towards couples with Black women in them (see also: The Bear) than their white pets, especially when a lotta people saying this may or may not wanna see Boims and T'Lyn together, but I was one of those people who did and still do think their friendship is rather unique and given the entire landscape of TV media I'd rather have my ship sink.
Lastly: can we as a fandom stop going after Steve Shives for not liking the show? He's mentioned the show isn't for him and that's an entirely different thing than what the bad faith critics do of bashing the show to get views or to criticize the show for things other Trek shows have done. The dude actually enjoyed the SNW crossover and was quick to call out the hypocrisy of people flipping shit about the Boimhole™ in that Naked Time sim when women characters have been objectified left and right throughout all of classic Trek without anyone saying boo diddly dick about it.
....guess that's it for me lol
