@mariamccloy is an “Africa-inspired Jozi-based accessory and shoe creator,” co-founder of Black Rage Productions, and publicist. She is one of the many creative South African womxn whose work preserves SA history and culture in ways that are new and each uniquely her own.

In this fashion, Maria applies her distinctive personal history to reflect a South African style that removes the “shame and self-hate, which came from colonialism and apartheid; part of the programme of those systems was banning indigenous culture – and those wounds are deep," she told Between 10 and 5. “Basotho culture is in my work but I also see myself as an African and a Joburger, part of a global scene. You can see that in the shoes, accessories and bags."
