I love going to the local open-air markets in Rome with my mom. The taste of all the food is very different from the US. Most of it is locally grown and when you buy meat you know exactly where it comes from and the day of the slaughter. All the milk and eggs come from local farmers in the outskirts of the city. All of this food will be considered a step above organic and non-GMO in America. #farmfresh #roma #healthyfood #openmarkets #italia #mamma #motherson #alexardenti #mariaassunta (at Rome, Italy) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm1YLhvDYos/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Aosta (Aosta Valley). Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and San Giovanni Battista (4th century), and more. Certainly there would still be a lot to see in Aosta, but when on a journey you have to deal with time, you widen at the beginning, then you run and something is not seen enough or not at all. Thus the millennial history of the Cathedral is summed up in the beautiful Renaissance portal. The church was completely rebuilt in the 11th century and since then it has undergone several interventions that have changed its style, from Romanesque to Gothic. The "current" polychrome facade, rich in frescoes and terracotta sculptures, dates back to 1522 and was enclosed in the nineteenth century within a second facade in neoclassical style. The interior is characterized by the large wooden crucifix, the polychrome windows, the crypt and the works of art in the presbytery. Quick visit, but also essential to the Forensic Cryptoporticus (25 BC), a Roman monument around the sacred area of the Augusta Praetoria forum (Unesco heritage). It is a gallery with two aisles, rectangular and open on the south side, probably an ambulatory to reach the temples above. Finally, two shots of a contemporary private Aosta, also in the company of Giovanna Botteri. #cathedral #mariaassunta #more #deal #beginning #something #enough #renaissance #aosta #valledaosta #essential #augusta #forum #unesco #gallery #above #giovanna #private #travel #traveling #visiting #instatravel #travelling #instatraveling #mytravelgram #travelgram #travelingram #massimopistis #sovVERSIvi #estremisti Information for the purchase of my new book "Estremisti!": the book at a cost of 12.00 euros (120 pages), can be ordered in bookstores (ISBN 978-88-591-5719-9 - Publisher Aletti) or online on the page http://www.alettieditore.it/emersi/2019/pistis.html from the link below. https://www.instagram.com/p/CKewc14lIKg/?igshid=12mzw8xmudh4z

What type would you study?
WEEK 4 - 29/3/19
Over the last few weeks we have been looking at the way materials influence communication design. We moved from hieroglyphic text to Greece and adding a bunch of vowels, then moving onto Japanese scrolls.
For this lecture however we first discussed our assignment as it would be the last chance to do so before it is due. Moving onto examples of the first printing methods and then onto Gutenberg and how made the invention that helped create type.
Using what was discussed about the assignment I have set in motion the practical side of this and hired a camera and tripod. From there I collected all the materials I chose to make up the question (a lot harder than I thought) and from there lay them out in their order. Taking a few test shots, I think tomorrow will be the big day for the real deal.
Discussing what types of printing came out first, we looked at the block printing of the Diamond Sutra - a Buddhist scripture, know as the first dated example of block printing. Moving onto the first movable type created in 1041 CE, by Bi Sheng in China. Lastly looking at the first wood block printing made in 1423 where Europeans use Xylography of engraving wood, (blood printing) to produce books. Throughout this process the Madonna del Fuoco was created.
Further looking into Gutenberg, we were shown how he created this invention through using multiple existing technologies and came up with moveable type. Rather than using wooden blocks to press ink onto paper, he used moveable metal pieces at a fast pace to create pages upon pages. The invention of the printing press spread rapidly through Europe and soon thousands of books were being printed on printing presses.
One up-ing himself, Gutenberg created his own Bible which was very rare at that time and would usually take a priest up to a year to transcribe. It was the first bible to be mass produced and available to anyone outside of the church. I wish I came up with something half as great as this, let alone be able to one up myself later on.
This lead us onto Letterforms. Gutenberg himself used the exact same letterforms as someone who would write by hand to write the bible. This was them taken and combined with another letterform to create what is called Antiqua which was later made into Gothic.
Looking at example of the Gothic letterform used in posters we were shown one poster by Hitler and then one by Walt Disney. Highly very different people but somehow shared the same like for the same font. We were then shown examples from the 21st century such as Jägermeister, Mother - energy drink, New York City Daily times and even shown how these type influenced others into creating their own- eg, Harry Potter (BEST MOVIES)
My favourite font is Century Gothic and will remain so until another amazes me. It is quite crazy how there started off being one font only for it to be changed and manipulated in to many different ways - now to being over 300,000.

Avellino (Campania). Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta (1132). By conforming to the dark tones of the city, after the evening function, the lights inside the Cathedral went out and those that remained on created a contrast that made the makeshift images difficult to present. However the baroque and what remains of Romanesque inside the Duomo deserves, and I try to give an idea for better equipped photographers. The interior is a Latin cross with three naves divided by sumptuous pillars, which lead to the ten chapels; the presbytery area is very large and equally refined. In general we are faced with a surprising work. There is also an important crypt which I have not seen. #duomo #mariaassunta #conforming #avellino #campania #baroque #contrast #makeshift #better #refined #surprising #seen #tones #inside #evening #present #deserve #faced #travel #traveling #visiting #instatravel #travelling #instatraveling #mytravelgram #travelgram #travelingram #massimopistis #sovVERSIvi #estremisti Information for the purchase of my new book "Estremisti!": the book at a cost of 12.00 euros (120 pages), can be ordered in bookstores (ISBN 978-88-591-5719-9 - Publisher Aletti) or online on the page http://www.alettieditore.it/emersi/2019/pistis.html from the link below. https://www.instagram.com/p/CC9I-wuqocZ/?igshid=1rtp7l0sihux3

Melfi (Basilicata). Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta (1076). Internal. The interior of the Cathedral, summarily represented in four images, houses a collection of Baroque wooden furnishings. The pulpit is an eighteenth-century work in gilded wood, with a spire supported by two angels; the base panels decorated on the sides with vases and golden flowers; in the center the initials of interlaced letters A.S.V.D.M. (Antonio Spinelli bishop of Melfi) and a base bearing the gilded wooden sculptures of the symbols of the four evangelists. The building is on a Latin cross plan and is divided into three naves. The central one shows among other things the episcopal seat, the altar and the eighteenth century coffered ceiling, carved and embossed, colored with chimiento (mixture of lead and arsenic with the pictorial effect of gold), made by Neapolitan craftsmen. The other two images: seventeenth century reliquary in polychrome marble of Sant'Alessandro martire, patron saint of the city. It contains glass showcases divided into compartments with the bust of the saint in the center and other relics of martyr saints. A baptismal font dating back to 1935, it basically serves as a holy water font and is placed in the ancient chapel of Saints John the Baptist and the Evangelist; red granite baptistery and wooden doors with the inlaid depiction of the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan. Melfi was the site of six councils in the 12th century, one of which was not recognized by the Church (organized by the antipope Anacleto II). #internal #mariaassunta #melfi #basilicata #baroque #cathedral #pulpit #symbols #evangelists #eagle #coffered #chimiento #craftsmen #patron #baptismalfont #travel #traveling #visiting #instatravel #travelling #tourism #instatraveling #mytravelgram #travelgram #travelingram #massimopistis #sovVERSIvi #ilmiolibro #estremisti #alettieditore Information for the purchase of my new book "Estremisti!": the book at a cost of 12.00 euros (120 pages), can be ordered in bookstores (ISBN 978-88-591-5719-9 - Publisher Aletti) or online on the page http://www.alettieditore.it/emersi/2019/pistis.html from the link below. https://www.instagram.com/p/B5qcdqDoALl/?igshid=owkwy9mml31p
