"Interesting," the reporter leaned forward, intrigued. "You know, there are rumors about Y/N's love life all the time. How do you feel about all the speculation surrounding her personal life?"

Paige shrugged, maintaining her relaxed demeanor despite the stupid question. "I think it's tough being in the spotlight like that. People forget that celebrities are human too. You then take a deep breath, pretending to think hard. "Fine, if I have to choose... I'd say Paige Bueckers. She's incredible on the court, and I've seen some interviews with her ─ she seems like such a cool person."

The audience erupts with loud cheers, causing both you and Bowen to laugh. Bowen's eyes widen, clearly delighted by your answer as he clapped. "Ooh, scandalous! Paige Bueckers, I love that! Have you met her?"

You shake your head, smiling. "No, not yet. But I did see a clip of her saying some really nice things about me recently. It was super sweet."

Bowen's face lights up with excitement. "She was practically gushing over you, this is perfect, we need to make this happen. Maybe you could collab, I don't know how but uh, if anyone could make it happen, it's you."

"Thank you, I think?" You laugh, nodding. "Totally, we'll see what happens."

Bowen turns to the camera, his enthusiasm infectious. "You heard it here first, folks! Y/N and Paige Bueckers, the crossover we never knew we needed but now desperately want!"

The audience erupts in applause and cheers, and you can't help but smile at the idea. Bowen turns back to you, his tone shifting slightly more serious. Plus, Y/N responded so positively on the SNL interview. I think it shows she's got a good heart and she's just navigating her way through a complicated life!"

"I just kinda... wanna disappear for awhile," you confessed, your voice quiet as you pressed the phone to your ear. "Don't know why this keeps happening, you're the only that can... help me through it. Sorry if I woke you up-"

It happened again ─ over the last couple of months (ever since you'd broken up with Lauren) you'd gotten pretty severe panic attacks. You were told by everyone on your team to just stay off social media and what had you done... exactly the opposite of that.

"No, no, I was awake anyway, promise," Paige's voice echoed through the phone. You heard shuffling through the phone as you sniffled, sighing. "And I don't mind, like at all. I meant what I said, I'm always here for you,"

Your heart swelled as you managed a smile, as tears began to build in your eyes. You and Paige had only been talking a month and she already understood you more than anyone had in what felt like forever. Her steady presence was like an anchor in the storm of your life.

The constant media scrutiny and the aftermath of your breakup with Lauren had left you feeling alone, but Paige’s calming influence was slowly becoming your safe haven.

"I just... I don't know how to deal with all of it. The rumors, the pressure, it's all so overwhelming," you admitted, wiping away the tears that had started to fall. "Half of it, it isn't even true."

"Hey, it's okay, I know, I believe you," Paige's voice was soothing, almost like a warm embrace over the phone. Even the smallest affirmation from Paige made you feel all okay again, even if it was just for the moment.

"You're not alone in this. We can figure it out together, step by step."

That part made your lips twitch up in a smile, feeling yourself relax again. You took a deep breath, feeling a bit of the tension ease from your shoulders. "I just feel like I can't breathe sometimes. Like the walls are closing in, y'know?"

"I get it," Paige replied softly. She'd know about it all too well, she'd been through it herself plenty of times. "Sometimes it helps to focus on the small things. One step at a time, remember? Have you tried any of those breathing exercises I taught you?"

You nodded, even though she couldn't see you. "Yeah, a little. They help, but it’s hard to remember in the moment."

"Next time you feel a panic attack coming on, call me. Anytime, okay? We'll get through it together," Paige's voice was firm, reassuring. "You don't deserve the shit they give you, like at all."

"Thank you," you whispered, feeling a surge of gratitude. "I don't know what I'd do without you, P."

"You don't have to thank me. I care about you, and I wanna help. Plus, I like hearing your voice," Paige added with a light chuckle, trying to lift your spirits.

You couldn't help but smile at that. "Me too, especially your cute tired voice."

"Cute, really?" Paige laughed through the phone and you swore you felt like your whole world felt even again. "But uh, if you do really wanna disappear you can always come to Connecticut."

The thought of escaping the relentless spotlight, even for a little while, sounded like a dream. "Really?"

"Yeah, you can stay with me for a bit, if that's uh... what you want." Paige explained through the phone. "My friends are super chill and it's always a fun time, if you ever wanna come. Think about it?"

The idea of spending time with the basketball player you'd quickly become enthralled with, seemed almost like a dream. And getting away from LA and all the madness that came with it sounded heavenly, you were going to give Connecticut a thought.

You sighed, feeling a warmth spread through you that had been absent for far too long. "Yeah, I will. And Paige?"

"Yeah?"

"Thank you. Really."

"Anytime, Y/N. Sweet dreams."

Recent Austen adaptations yelling

Ok I DID make this blog to review historical-set Pride & Prejudice adaptations (with an exception made for iconic B&P). But for everyone who was DEFINITELY WONDERING, yes I have also been storing away a lot of opinions about other recent Austen adaptations that I Must Tell Someone.

Fire island (2022)

A modern gay party cheesy rom-com P&P that genuinely made me laugh. Having seen some other (whiter) cheesy gay romcoms that were extreeeemely PG & playing it safe, I was pleasantly surprised.

Also Bowen Yang and his story just came across really earnest in a way I was into - would watch this man cry again, 10/10.

Personally as an extremely disabled british nerd (now tragically unable to travel and/or go to the club...) this gay scene is a long way from my queer scene. But I still had emotions, you know?

Kinda wanted more of the Mary analogue and generally just normal looking people (almost everyone is so ripped) but I appreciate that's how beautiful smooth people often look in mainstream american films, we can't have everything.

DARCY WATCH: I do not want to dress like this adaptation's chinos Mr Darcy. But Conrad Ricamora was generally great and very hot and awkward and understood the assignment. Good ice cream throw.

Emma (2020)

I know I know, it's pretty... but I don't think that's enough!!!!!

Lovely production, beautiful costumes, a candy wes-anderson cinematography that really suits the story, and it's fun to notice references to actual outfits and prints from the time but lads. LADS. UNPOPULAR OPINION TIME: Where is the chemistry???

You can’t make Mr Knightley a nice sweet boy (so funny to have cast a posh folksy singing man) and leave the plot the same and expect it to work!! Also I was personally pissed off that a lot of the promo/ ads for this made it look like ~forbidden love~ when it's the 2 richest white people in town getting together?? ? There's actually not even a class difference in this one, guys.

Basically this romance was nothing to me!!! I felt nothing!!!!!!!! WHERE'S THE DEPTH

I did like the bit where he lies down though. Relatable.

Also why are you drawing so much attention to the servants when you don’t seem to have anything to say about class...? 'Wow look how many servants they had! Anyway, they don't get any speaking lines'... it's 2020 guys!!! like what are we saying here. 'isn't it cool to think about how people were rich'??

Persuasion (2022)

Weeping softly into a pillow........ did you know this version meant a version with Sarah Snook and Joel Fry got cancelled?? we could have had it all

(standing on a table yelling) THE MODERNISATION WAS NOT THE PROBLEM WITH THIS FILM!!!

Honestly I actively liked all the entire secondary cast in this. Louisa and Mary were extremely charming fun takes to watch. ('I'm an empath' IS right for the character if you're doing modern jokes!!!) And nobody can deny this was a correct and powerful use of Richard E Grant.

Henry Golding was naturally great. Apparently he got offered the lead and took the villain instead, which DOES mean the villain is super charming and fun to watch which is... hard to match and.... kind of shows up.... the main man.

It's been said before but the main two were WOEFUL imo. I have no beef with the actors I just question the DIRECTION and whether anyone making this knew (or cared) why people... enjoy things.

Book Anne is the quietest gentlest loser and I LOVE HER and so does basically every Austen nerd. Making her a quirky wine-bath girl who's honestly just cruel sometimes fully stops the main romance chemistry and plot from working.

And it means the main boy is still like 'god I'm so horny for how KIND AND CAPABLE YOU ARE' which is just 100% no longer true. You can't transplant a personality in a romance but leave the plot the exact same and expect it to work. The chemistry IS the plot in a romance..........

you can't act morally superior to your siblings and still rate people out of ten.... also so funny to me that everyone else gets period outfits and hair whereas this protagonist looks like she just glanced at a picture of any time in the past and grabbed a couple shirts from primark. it doen't even look good or build character!!!!!

Anyway, not to be an elderly man like 'ohhh why does nobody care about character these days' but the reason something like Clueless works is because it has the heart of the story right, instead of just copying the surface level stuff.

Alright so its time to hyperfixate even more on Omori by giving my rankings for a few characters, specifically the main cast in both Faraway and Headspace, and a few of the side characters, so without further ado...

Sunny: Emo and very adorable. Lots of headcanons for him after the PGE ranging from keeping him his usual shy self to making him very sociable and talkative. 80/10

Omori: Garbage Boy Stink Man but we still love this little gremlin. 9/10

Kel: Buries all of his trauma deep down, all to help his friends. False smiles at any sadness. Honestly written really well. 150/10

Headspace Kel: Kel but annoying and no sadness. 20/10

Aubrey: BEST. GIRL. Has the best writing, the best music, the best headcanons, the best sprites, and BY FAR the best character arc. Is also extremely relatable. 200/10

Headspace Aubrey: Aubrey but much more upbeat and also clingy. Veeeeeeeery clingy (Touch Starved Aubrey my beloved). 25/10

Hero: Best brother figure in gaming and I will not take Mario as a rebuttal. Plus, he's literally the perfect man (other than my boyfriend, but I digress). 100/10

Headspace Hero: Kinda boring ngl. Still the most useful for battles though. 20/10

Basil: Adorable. Must protecc at all costs. Also, when he's written well, he has some of the best moments in the game. 175/10

Headspace Basil: Basil but even more adorable. 23/10

Mari: Sunny but with Hero's caring and Kel's goofieness. Just a shame she doesn't have a larger role imo (granted I know why but still), but that's what the fics are for :). 50/10

Hooligans headcanons! Just because

Angel is the youngest in the group by 2 years, because of this he gets away with more chaos with the price of being babyed

Aubrey used to crush any gladiolus she saw during the 4 years (it brings back pained memories)

Charlene refuses to acknowledge her reddit brother exist

Kim and Kel would always have a sports match to see who is better

Mikhael loves fashion and would sometimes sketch clothes he would want to see exist

Vance loves to babysit kids before he joined the hooligans and would look out for the younger kids (personally he doesn't know why he stopped since he loved it)

Angel sees Charlie as his dad and Mikhael as his mom, they are both parental figures to him even if these 2 don't talk to eachother much, they fill that role for him and he is happy with it

Basil always know who Aubrey have a crush on just by looking at her even if Aubrey doesn't realize her crush yet

Charlene and Sunny befriended eachother after the good ending, now these 2 either listen to music, colour, and or talk about their hyperactive friends who are talkitive and also somehow manages to get them in trouble yet they still love them for who they are

Kim hates sour candy or actually anything sour, unlike his brother who love sweet and sour

Mikhael is bad at picking up signals for anything, he blames his family for it since they all are terrible at picking up signals

Vance one time got upset that Kim ate all of his candy that he spoke spanish for an entire week (I headcanon him and Kim to be half Japanese half Spanish)

Angel have this weird thing with honorifics, he uses it on almost everyone and it is always the wrong ones to use (ie he calls his teachers Master, Aubrey is Sir, his friend's parents are either Sire and Madam, ect.) if he doesn't use an honorific on you it is either A) he doesn't know you or B) he doesn't respect you enough to give you one/loss the respect (it seriously hits hard to the people close to him when he stops using it on them)

Aubrey always saw Basil as a younger brother (even though he is older) and would try to copy Hero and Mari on how they act towards Sunny and Kel, she would congratulate him on the smallest of achievement, she would pet his hair when he being energetic to calm him down, she would tease him on small things, she would always try to protect him from anything that would harm him no matter what. After everything that happened in the good ending, Basil forgive Aubrey for everything she has did to him, but he no longer allows her to treat him the same when they were younger, that bond and trust is long gone and it would take a very long time until it can be rebuilt

Charlene hates how intimidating she looks even though it is good at stopping her from getting bad attention it also makes people want to avoid her, she never had any friends growing up because of that, so she always played with her stuffed toys and dolls. Charlie would try to get her older brother to play with her when she was younger, but he always brushed her off and stayed in his room. The hooligan where her first actual friend group

Kim knows every dinosaur fact ever and she will fight anyone who gets a fact slightly wrong, she doesn't know why she hold on to her dinosaur beliefs so strongly and she sometimes stay up at night and question if she might be a reincarnated dinosaur trying to relearn her culture and that is why she is like this

Mikhael have those rare moments in which him and his siblings are on speaking terms even if it was just a few minuetes, they would usually talk about the past (before Mikhael was 6 years old since that is when they drifted apart) their favorite memory is When Mikhael was using names, but had a difficult time trying to pronounce Daphne's name so they would ask him "do you want to speak to Bowen 1 or Bowen 2? Which Bowen is it? This Bowen or that Bowen" it usually takes about 2 minutes until they figured out which sibling he was talking about. They all wish they could go back to that time, Mikhael feels like that is too late even when his siblings are trying hard to get him to get him to hang out with him again like he used to

Vance have a hard time saying no to Kim, even when it is something that needs to have his foot down on, he can't bring himself to do that. He just tags along to whatever she does instead because if he can't stop her then why not join her?

Angel's hair clips where gifts from his sister when they were younger, he would panic if he where to ever lose them

Aubrey have been known to be a bunny whisperer, Kel usually teases her about it; little does she know is that Kel is the same thing, but with dogs and Sunny is like that with cats

Charlene helps Angel with his injuries since he is kind of danger prone when doing so she like to hum songs that her mom songs to her when she have a hard time sleeping when she was younger (I definitely see her humming "you are my sunshine")

Kim would always play tetherball as it was her favorite game, she wanted to be in a tetherball championship because if she trained hard enough she knows she will win no matter what, that is until she found out that there is no such thing as a tetherball championship since it is an informal sport, after that she was pretty upset for an entire week

Mikhael likes learning languages because he finds the way people speak to eachother beautiful (other than English hee currently knows Italian and French since these are his own languages, but he learned how to speak Spanish and is currently learning Korean)

Vance relies on candy to keep his energy when he runs out he is usually tired and lays in bed for a very long time

My favorite weirdos (sorry Sunny :0) Thank you so much nonnie! I'm glad you're enjoying. Today is probably not gonna be heavy on writing (I'm refilling my queue and organizing my Masterpost again haha!) but I did wanna do a little something in the mornings, so today I decided that I wanted to write about my favorite twins!

Bowen is really good at styling hair. Daphne pretty much always wears her hair plainly down, but sometimes it is nice to have a new style. The problem is she is terrible at styling, even dough ends up in lumps and knots under her fingers. Bowen however can make perfect long plaits of bread, and impressive shapes and that skill easily translates to hair. Daphne will sit on the floor in front of his bed and he makes artful waterfall braids or carefully constructed buns with ribbons and bows folded in. They always take them out before they leave their bedroom, but the magic of it never dulls even as they get older

Bowen and Daphne actually really like running their youth group. They started when they were much younger, and they don't ever want to stop. Not only is it a change in pace from the bakery, it's also nice to work with the kids. A lot of their town views them as odd or strange, but the kids in their youth group love them. Daphne usually ends up with at least one on her lap and they're always begging Bowen for another story that he's happy to give. It's always sad when they grow too old to continue to go, but Bowen and Daphne like to hold a 'graduation' ceremony for the oldest at the end of every summer to signify their moving on in a special way.

Once Mav gets over his issues around his family and he and the twins are close again, Mav finally starts to bring his friends around the bakery. They never stay for long and Mav is still pretty standoffish about it, but Daphne and Bowen are extremely happy to see their brother and to know that he isn't ashamed of who he is anymore. Through a little trial and error they find out what baked goods each of the hooligans like (Aubrey enjoys pinwheel cookies, Vance and Charlie both love chocolate donuts, Kim is crazy for their bear claws, and Angel's favorite is raspberry tarts) and they make sure to have at least one of each treat always on hand so if Mikhael comes by with his friends they can enjoy something sweet together

It was actually Daphne that offered the bakery jobs to Hero and Mari when they were trying to save up for Sunny's violin. In part because Mari was her friend and she liked Sunny a lot, but the other part of it was for Bowen.

Bowen hasn't told her his secrets yet, but Daphne knows. She would never press him, Bowen will tell her when he's ready, but she sees how he looks at the boy who lives down the street. No one but her would notice that Bowen gets a little more outgoing when he's around, or that her twin's eyes tend to linger on him. If there was anyone who was worthy of her brother, it would be Hero. He's kind and gentle and has a way of bringing out the best in the people around him, but there is the issue of one of her closest friends dating him.

It's all pretty confusing and more than a little dramatic for Daphne's tastes, but she isn't worried. God has a plan for all of them, and that plan will make things as they should be, but until that plan unfolds, she doesn't mind giving Bowen some more time around his first crush.

If you’re interested in reading romance or would just like to know a bit more about the genre by reading books instead of going off of whatever nonsense you’ve heard about it, here’s a list grouped by arbitrary categories that I made up as I went.

Congrats! If you read “chick lit,” then you’ve probably already read romance because the generally agreed upon definition of a romance novel is a story that 1. centers on a love story and 2. has an emotionally satisfying ending. Lots of chick lit fits those two rules. It’s all just marketing.

How the Franklin Expedition ruined Charles Dickens’s marriage

Yes, it’s a clickbait headline. No, I’m not sorry. Because history is fucking weird sometimes, and here’s how.

(I’m posting this in honor of The Terror Appreciation Week on Tumblr. Apologies for not sticking closely to the daily themes; I hope no one minds that I’m using this as an opportunity to dump some interesting historical tidbits I’ve picked up over the last year.)

Recently the world of Victorian scholarship had a small stir over letters from Edward Dutton Cook, a friend late in life of Catherine, Charles Dickens’s wife. She confided much about her life with Dickens to Cook, particularly this bit which is what’s really got people going (my emphasis):

he discovered at last that she had outgrown his liking. She had borne ten children and had lost many of her good looks, was growing old, in fact. He even tried to shut her up in a lunatic asylum, poor thing! But bad as the law is in regard to proof of insanity he could not quite wrest it to his purpose.

Dickens’s marriage seems to have been pretty well on the rocks by the time he became infatuated with actress Ellen Ternan (and you can read a fascinating account of how the scandal “went viral” in this paper by Patrick Leary). But how he met her is the bit that’s of interest to the Franklinologist.

The play The Frozen Deep came about in 1856. It was written by Wilkie Collins, but Dickens had his hands deep in the production (he and his daughters played some of the roles), and it was written in reaction to the findings of John Rae’s expedition in search of Franklin. As all we Franklin nuts know well: in 1854, Rae had submitted a report to the Admiralty stating that:

From the mutilated state of many of the corpses and the contents of the kettles it is evident that our wretched countrymen had been driven to the last resource—cannibalism—as a means of prolonging existence.

And instead of keeping his report confidential, the Admiralty made it public.

Reaction was swift and horrified, and Dickens put Rae and his Inuit sources on blast. He wrote articles insisting that no good Christian Englishman would have stooped to such depravity and also went full-bore racist, insinuating that the Inuit probably killed and ate the explorers themselves. Highlights:

We believe every savage to be in his heart covetous, treacherous, and cruel; and we have yet to learn what knowledge the white man — lost, houseless, shipless, apparently forgotten by his race, plainly famine-stricken, weak, frozen, helpless, and dying — has of the gentleness of Esquimaux nature. […] We submit that the memory of the lost Arctic voyagers is placed, by reason and experience, high above the taint of this so easily-allowed connection; and that the noble conduct and example of such men, and of their own great leader himself, under similar endurances, belies it, and outweighs by the weight of the whole universe the chatter of a gross handful of uncivilised people, with domesticity of blood and blubber.

And so: The Frozen Deep, a play penned by Collins under Dickens’s heavy guidance. In it, a young woman fears her fiancé has been lost in an Arctic expedition, and there’s a doomy Scots nursemaid (possibly a dig at Rae, a Scotsman) who pronounces all manner of gloomy portents—“who goes about the house like an ominous enchantress, muttering of awful visions which come to her from ‘the land o’ ice and snaw’” as a review describes it. There were a few private and semi-public performances in 1857, followed by a production at the Manchester Free Trade Hall as a benefit for the widow of Douglas William Jerrold. Dickens decided a couple of the performers (in roles originally played by his daughters) should be replaced by professionals … including a Mrs. Francis Ternan and her daughters Mary and Ellen.

And thus did Ellen Ternan enter Dickens’s life. Probably the Dickens marriage was at a point where any sufficiently strong motive would have occasioned the separation that ended it, but his infatuation with her does seem to have been the proverbial camel-breaking straw. And all thanks to Dickens’s upset about the Franklin Expedition.

Books of 2018

And here is my my annual book round up! This year I bumped my Goodreads challenge up from 70 to 80, and wound up reading 113 (which is a little less than last year, but some of these books were very long). But I once again benefited from my friend group being so dedicated to harassing each other with more books to read (and also the Silent Book Club that meets in Boston which has given me some time to focus on reading).

But as usual, I’ve bolded my top 18 books, and italicized my next 10 honorable mentions. And I’ve put a strike through my bottom 5 books that I managed to finish. This was a little difficult to do because I reread a few books this year (like Harry Potter, and The Princess Diaries) and I’m not including those.That said, the rereads affected my ratings, and I really didn’t find myself blown away by as many books. This is also possibly because a lot of these books were part of series, but ultimately I felt I had a significant majority of books that were either pretty good or meh.

Villain Headcanon - Atlas Ethinger

Well, it's certainly been a while since I've done a villain headcanon post.. and really these should be done due to plot ideas later on down the track. This one is particularly important as it's heavily related to Bowen himself. There's a lot of information to go through, so it will be put under a read more. This, is Atlas Ethinger.

(( I also apologise if any part of this description may sound confusing. Plenty of it has been done on the fly. ))

Childhood and upbringing

Atlas Ethinger is the 'son' of Zeus Ethinger. Son being a loose term as he wasn't actually 'born' in a traditional sense. He is in fact, a test tube baby.

Atlas was created using a mix of genetic material from a previous human incarnation of the multiversal god 'Atom', as well as such material from a human being. Zeus Ethinger, an engineering tycoon with a vast amount of wealth, wanted to create his own 'god' son, firmly believing the Atomite lore. The genetic material needed was taken from a previous incarnation of Atom, someone who had been around since the beginning of the 20th century and had previously fought in a few wars for his country. This was done through killing said incarnation, right at his doorstep. The other material was acquired through a suitable female.

As a child he was left under the care of servants and maids, Zeus never really in the picture at all at that stage. He was privately educated as well, only going to what Zeus considered to be 'the best schools', not that it helped, he was still bullied throughout his studies. Being blue haired with those bright green eyes easily made him a target, as well as his home life not exactly the best environment for him.

His father became more involved when Atlas was a teenager, but not exactly in the best way. He was only concerned for Atlas' grades, not his wellbeing. The bullying didn't stop in high school in fact it worsened considerably. The way he was treated in those years nurtured a hatred for others, whom he began to consider as less than himself, for having to resort to pick on others. Eventually of course, he snapped, on one rainy day he confronted a senior student who had a huge dislike for him and savagely beat him in front of everyone. The extent of the injuries was so severe, everyone thought that Atlas would have killed this guy.

Needless to say, he was expelled from such a school. The tirade he got from his father was vicious, both verbally and physically. Again, his father never cared for how he felt, he just wanted Atlas to get the grades that were needed to get the education.. and that was in jeopardy.

So he was sent to another private school, where he did a bit better, especially since he met someone whom he felt like he could rely on. Her name was Bridget. Bridget stuck up for him when he was being harassed by older students, especially one who also took fancy to her. Regularly did Atlas and said student have regular arguments. Clearly Atlas felt something for Bridget and there was an inkling that she might have felt the same way.

Unfortunately this had an effect on his grades and Zeus was not happy. More abuse followed, especially verbal this time. When he found out as to why Atlas might be slipping on his grades, he decided to hatch a cunning plan to hook up Bridget with the rival student. Money was a particular factor in such a plan and no doubt did it work. Bridget abandoned Atlas and quickly went off with the rival student, changing schools not long after that. Atlas, was heartbroken. The one person he could trust and rely one, someone whom he first developed feelings for, had left him in the dust, for someone who thought he was less than dirt. It only further fuelled his dislike for others, as well as keeping his heart from ever feeling for another individual.

While he graduated from private school, pretty easily, his father, Zeus, was still pedantic about grades, even when Atlas was sent to one of the top universities. Even then did he get ridiculed for his appearance, as well as his choice of outfits, making him look all over blue, as well as particularly old school, compared to the others. Studying eventually took it's own toll, which lead to one particular argument with Zeus.

By this stage, Atlas was an adult, in a position to argue back with Zeus. The argument was particularly fierce and nasty, a lot of personal anger and vitriol was unleashed that night, with Atlas angrily accusing Zeus of not being a father at all, that he treated Atlas like someone who was more of an employee than a son. The argument eventually got to the stage where Zeus nastily blurted out to Atlas that he had to arrange for Bridget to run off with a high school student as she was being a bad influence on his life, that he should focus on his career more than 'bodily urges'.

This, was the final straw for Atlas. He couldn't take any more from the man who had created him. The man who was already serving himself and not his son, who seemed would do anything to get his 'pawn' to where he wanted to be. Thoughts of Bridget fuelled his mind, rage amplifying with each second. The result... Zeus was murdered, right there and then, in a fashion that was particularly brutal and savage. Atlas made sure that everyone else kept quiet about it, for they would suffer the same fate otherwise. Zeus' body was quickly disposed of, leaving no trace of the selfish tycoon. Atlas would inherit everything, being the only 'child' that Zeus had. This would be a new experience for him, one where he had to shapen up pretty quickly. It wasn't easy having so much money, as well as an engineering company and mass connections to keep going. He would learn from the servants who had raised him. Combined with his previous experiences in school and university, he would become a master player in whatever dealings he had.

Adulthood, Atlas Engineering and the Ministry of Science

Atlas would grow to become a cunning operator in his business dealings. Formerly the company was known as Ethinger Manufacturing, but when he took charge, it quickly changed to Atlas Engineering. Good thing that when he was at university, he was in fact studying an engineering degree and had learned quite a lot about what his late father had dealt with. He had such an interest in machines since his early schooling days, as well as computers, they certainly fascinated him. Many a design he had made for various applications, in fact quite quickly in such a regard. He was praised highly for his quick skill, which eventually earned him connections with the Ministry of Science, in particular the head of the Inter-Dimensional branch at the time, Davis Uberiso. While the Ministry had been undergoing works of a corrupt and shady nature, Davis and his team were working on a goal that would benefit billions upon billions. Safe and secute inter-dimensional travel, both personal and en-masse. Such a project enticed Atlas, not to mention having connections with the Ministry, he would soon learn a lot more than what he would ever discover otherwise.

One other point of mention is another aspect of his behaviour. He had been raised mainly by maids when he was younger. As a kid it was older maids, who eventually retired and made way for younger ones. When he was a teenager, there was a particularly young maid, in her early 20s, Mary, who seemed like she very much cared for Atlas. Whether she was doing her job well or if she did care for him, he would very much reward it in the future. After the whole Bridget fiasco and after he had taken over his father's company, Atlas began to spend quite a bit of time with Mary. She was still employed by Atlas and hadn't reached thirty just yet. Atlas had found quite an attraction to her when he first knew her and that hadn't changed at all. She didn't have anyone at the time and could easily tell what he thought of her. This culminated in a night of fireworks. Atlas lost his virginity to a maid and for the first time, knew what intimacy and sex was like.

It wasn't the last time either. Atlas had it pretty good where he was at that moment, running a successful company, learning more about machines with the Ministry and being enthralled in passion with Mary every night. For a while, things seemed to be pretty good, until one day Atlas had to go through some documents.. one of them contained information about himself.

When he was younger, he was told that Zeus was his father and that his mother died in an accident shortly after he was born. While he still had a mother, that information had been easily redacted in the documents. What he found more fascinating, as well as shocking, was what he was. From the information he had read about his creation and what was used. He ascertained that he himself, was an artificial incarnation of a multiversal god, combined with human DNA. He was, truly, better than everyone else, save for the one person whom he shared a bed every night. Many a time did he test his abilities and was truly surprised at the results. His speed, strength, stamina, everything, it was all phenomenal. It also explained how moments with Mary lasted all night and sometimes into the morning.

But then the downfall was right around the corner. Eventually a leak occurred about Atlas and Mary, that he was having this long affair with his maid. Of course, neither had a significant other prior, but news did spread like wildfire. Company bosses began to think less of him. One even commented that Atlas was 'a horn dog who would rather bang his maid instead of running his business'. It even had an effect on his work with the Ministry of Science. He was involved in a project relating to negative energy, as part of his newly discovered fascination with Atomite lore. That experiment went horribly wrong, creating a monster that looked to devastate a city, only to instead manifest itself in a bystanding teenager, who would disappear shortly after.

The revelations had a toll on his relationship with Mary as well. She was the second person whom he felt a proper connection to, yet soon it seemed like they were arguing more and more. This of course, culminated in more sex, but that soon had an effect of it's own.

Mary got pregnant.

Atlas had a mixture of joy and concern of such news. Easily was it ascertained that it was of course his baby and he felt joy that he could be fathering a child of his own, yet Mary wasn't physically coping with carrying a child, taking a toll on her body. During the term, Mary fell gravely ill. Despite best efforts to save her, she died, with Atlas by her side. The baby could not be saved.

This left Atlas in a pretty bad state. The second person he had come close to feeling something for, probably the only person he could consider 'loving', had died. It was like everything that was going right in his life was being taken away from him. Already at this stage, he was somewhat self serving, but after that, did he truly and only look out for himself. Nobody else mattered anymore but him.

The final years of his old life

By that stage, Atlas was only thinking of himself. Some would go so far as to say he ended up just like his late father.. or much much worse. His dealings were ruthless, he was cunning at every corner. He even went so far as to massacre a whole building full of diplomats, just to hinder or sever relations between a country and the United Government, all for his own gain and all covered up easily.

The research on inter-dimensional travel was reaching new levels as well. Portal technology was feasible for small vehicles, but a large energy and computational source would be required to sustain mass transit travel, as well as personal travel at the same time. The decision was made to build what was called 'The Reactor', feet upon feet below ground, at the Ministry of Science headquarters. Atlas was heavily involved in it's construction. He had to be, he knew what it would be capable of.

He had made alterations to the initial design in such a way that someone could in fact 'live' in the Reactor. It would be like truly ascending to god, being able to go where he wanted, see what he wanted.. even almost do what he wanted. There were sacrifices he had to make. He'd have to leave everything behind. Atlas Engineering, his old life, everything, but to him and the way things were now, it seemed like the perfect trade off.

By this stage he was wanting more 'experiences' at the same time. The copious amount of sex he had with Mary had left him with a mindset that one shouldn't go without. He became notorious for charming and having affairs with multiple women. At the same time, he felt like wanting to create another child, to truly have fathered a kid of his own.. or multiple. Of course for the most part this was unsuccessful, for many reasons.

Until one night he charmed a woman by the name of Carolyn Fielding. To say he made a woman out of her was an understatement. Most of his one night stands and affairs didn't amount to much, but with Carolyn, it was like fireworks. She was so lost in such a moment with him, that she didn't ask crucial questions, like if he was wearing a condom or not... nor did she even do her own research about him, for that matter.

For a good while did they keep in contact, Atlas didn't see anyone else during that period, more so because of his involvement in the Reactor's construction, but he kept nights free for Carolyn... for a while.

It was no wonder she fell pregnant with his child, but she wasn't happy about it at all. Atlas was overjoyed, but she felt like as if he had been very careless. Not to mention upon learning about him, she was left as if she had been used. A particular confrontation ensued, Carolyn almost breaking down in front of Atlas, before running away from him before he could even talk to her. Instead of tracking her down, he chose instead to continue his own work, wondering if she will be fine in the end. He didn't really develop a connection with Carolyn, for by that stage, she was just another woman to be intimate with, or rather, the woman who was now carrying his child.

He didn't even know she was being comforted by a research assistant, who was passing by from another department. That person was called Morrie Chuuno, someone who would eventually change Carolyn's life, for the better, considering he convinced her to take the baby to term anyway, among other things.

Meanwhile Atlas had become obsessed with the Reactor, so much so that he was there every waking moment. Davis Uberiso was starting to get concerned himself, wondering what Atlas was up to. Eventually it came to the big moment when the behemoth machine would be fully utilised for the first time.

It was meant to be a minor ceremony, but Atlas had crashed the party, shooting Davis Uberiso in the shoulder and preparing to infuse himself with the Reactor, thanks to the alterations he had made. He knew this would be irreversible, for once he was inside, no-one could pluck him out. He was about do so, when a female voice compelled him to halt and turn.

Out of the blue.. Bridget had shown up.

She had been contacted by one of Atlas' servants, who had told her everything, how the late Zeus had given the old rival student the upper hand back in high school and the motive to take Bridget away from Atlas. Finally had Bridget seen what was really going on and had tried desperately to find Atlas, only now, at the very last moment, seeing him, eye to eye, one more time. But it was too late by then. Atlas was all out of love. Compassion and nostalgia had long gone for his past... and a new future was dawning on him. After all, he couldn't walk away from this. He knew the ramifications if he didn't go ahead with it. He took one last look at Bridget, before stepping into the Reactor and becoming part of the process used to make inter-dimensional travel possible.

At that very moment too, had a baby been born. One that looked nothing like his mother or father, one who was truly his own identity. This person was the son of Atlas and Carolyn, who had been fully taken to term. By that stage, she had grown into a relationship with Morrie Chuuno, as well as them finding out who Atlas really was, when certain documents were leaked to them, by the same servant who was working to bring Bridget back to Atlas. Those documents would make their way to the Ministry of Science as well, who would keep such records on file as part of their 'Atom' research. They would soon learn that this new child, however, would continue that lore, well into the future.

That child, would be named Bowen.

Father and Son

Atlas had been out of Bowen's life for the most part, mainly figuring out how to move about thanks to the Reactor and get used to this new life of his. He could manifest his own world within it, a recreation of the old mansion he used to live in. Then at some point he could move about and see new worlds, being able to physically manifest and finally continue a part of his old lifestyle, that being of course, seducing women.

He also figured out that the Reactor had intensified his abilities. It was like he was almost unstoppable in that regard. Someone could shoot him and he'd disappear before the bullet would reach him, something he had tested out in a few areas where that could occur.

There was also a strange intrinsic link he had developed, that confused him at first. Strange thoughts of a child's day, school and the like, although the familiar voice of Carolyn would also reach him through such thoughts. That lead to a few discoveries. One, that the baby he had conceived had actually been born.. and was being raised and two.. that it seemed, because the two are both incarnations of Atom, that he could read his son's thoughts, his mind. This would definitely prove beneficial to him in the future. He of course learned to control such an ability to when he wanted it, so that it wasn't happening out of the blue.

While there were threats to try and extinguish him from the Reactor, Atlas had made it so that it could heavily corrupt the machine, which could leave horrifically devastating consequences on the universes in which it served. Such was the case that the Ministry found it best to leave him alone until a much, much safer solution can be found.

Atlas decided to come into Bowen's life when the latter was sixteen. By then the young boy had gone back in time and had already shot and killed someone. The meeting went as Atlas expected, the young Bowen being quite wary of Atlas, although Atlas remained calm and composed. His son looked like the images he had found in Zeus' records. The eyes, the hair, the face, everything. This teenager had to be a full Atom incarnation. What were the odds of that coming from him! No doubt he told Bowen that his life is going to change more and more as he gets older... and to ask his parents about him. Needless to say from then on, Bowen found a pretty good hatred for Atlas and for what he did.

Meetings that happened from then on, Atlas wasn't so kind. He would randomly show up to harass Bowen, even go so far as to beat him up on occasion. Atlas wondered how Bowen's life would go, though he knew his upbringing was much different to what Atlas had experienced. Bowen couldn't be corrupted like him, but he pondered as if one day in the future that Bowen could potentially end up like him, if the circumstances were right. He would be keeping a close eye on Bowen, just as Bowen is considerably wary of Atlas.. many people feel like Bowen might be the only one to stop Atlas, if the former's abilities develop far enough in the future.

Atlas does have an impression that Bowen is also being used as a weapon by the Ministry of Science, an impression that he finds quite amusing. Maybe that could be the catalyst for the blonde in the future, but Atlas didn't see a reason to bring his thoughts up, unless he ended up being insanely bored and felt like he could get a good laugh out of it.

Atlas does what he wants nowadays, though through reading Bowen's mind, he does find new avenues to explore, in most cases avenues being women, but in the long run he does have an ultimate goal. He has little disregard for humanity, even sentience as a whole. He feels the need for a clean slate is in order and to do that, the multiverse as a whole, must be purged. Such a task is beyond mammoth, something he can't even do right now, but he actively seeks avenues to increase his power, to grow it beyond what he could ever imagine, to get closer and closer to such a goal. He has told Bowen about this, for Atlas feels it's more fun to have oppression in the wake of such a goal.

Atlas must be stopped. It would be foolish to underestimate how far he can go.

Granted, depending on whom he meets, he might just keep a world separate for him and those he might come to like in the future.

Appearance, Personality and Abilities

Atlas stands at around 6'3, with noticeably blue hair and green eyes. His main attire consists of a white shirt, with royal blue pants and blazer. Underneath is either a red or blue waistcoat with a green tie.

Atlas is considered to be entirely self serving, looking out for number one. He has little disregard for anyone else but him and has no qualms about taking lives if it furthers his own gain. He's a heavy womaniser at well, pretty much seeking affairs whenever he can. There may be a chance he might develop a particular fancy to certain people, in which he might only sleep with such a person if that were to occur. This however, has yet to happen and therefore has not been tested.

He constantly harasses his son, Bowen Chuuno, both verbally and physically. There have been a few occasions where Bowen has been left severely battered because of Atlas. While he'll beat up Bowen, he has not once considered killing him, only using that as a last resort if he absolutely has to.

He's considerably more powerful than what a strong or fast human would be considered to be. He can't easily be taken down in a fight, especially when he can disappear at the last moment. He prefers to use fists and feet to fight, at great speed and agility, but has been known to use weapons like pistols and machine guns at times. He doesn't possess any further abilities in relation to Atom, such as energy amplification or manipulation, but whether or not there will be a need for such is uncertain. He might develop such abilities later, through the process of seeking more power, if he continues down that path in the future.

In truth, his future can be a bit open ended depending on the direction of an RP.

For most people though, do not approach, for he'll most likely approach you.

When Every Leaf Is A Flower:

His heart raced as he ran down the war torn streets of Vale, the academy he had known and come to love very dearly; and he knew within his heart, his friends needed his help. Fighting and dying this day wouldn’t solve anything… but saving whom he could, that’d amount to at least something. However… there they were.

The Grimm.

Beowolves, bigger than the usual ones he had known. With a quick sigh, he unsheathed his two handed sword, and proceeded to come forward to clear the kingdom of this menace. Casually walking up to his first target, the Arbor pulls up his sword and strikes them in the forehead with its hilt. He then takes advantage of their defenselessness by piercing his enemy's stomach with the weapon and withdrawing it quickly, watching them crumple to the floor, dead… and dissolving. The others noticed him, now the bull Faunus would have to work a lot quicker so he wouldn’t get overrun within his small time frame.

Rushing towards his next target, the student clotheslines them in the neck with his arm, making them topple onto their back. He then firmly stabs his sword into their chest and lets it go, before grabbing it with his other hand and pulling it out, taking the time to bring up his blade while his victim finally succumbs to the wound. Just in time, Adam stabs the finally one in the chest, before lifting them from the ground and to the side. While they feebly grasp at the blade, they eventually go limp, and the Faunus then pulls back the sword quickly, withdrawing the weapon and making his prey fall from its tip. After another sigh, the bull admired his handiwork; the servants of the damned had been properly ridden of… Suddenly, sound, something he wasn’t expecting. Grimm… one he didn’t know of, nor, know it got that close. It had the typical black and bone features of a Grimm, but it’s eyes were multiple and it’s… The creature’s… mouth, if that’s what you could call it, sprayed the Arbor with a purple mist. He tried his best to not to inhale any of it, but he was unsure if he was successful or not within that matter. Not knowing if it was poison or not, the tall Faunus decided nevertheless to deal with the threat before it created more.

Running at his enemy forwardly, the warrior spins with great momentum, before chopping them in the waist with his weapon, getting his greatsword lodged in their flesh. Forcefully, he slashes through their body with a mighty swing, dislodging his sword and spinning them in the process. Afterwards, while his foe lays dead on the ground, the Arbor stores his greatsword back at his belt. His lungs weren’t being affected, other than watery eyes and a dry mouth… he had to move forward. The Bull stumbled through the street, the teary pain in his eyes were a big detriment to him. He continued through the hazardous walk of the dying city, before he heard something familiar… Unless the mist had messed with his ears as well. No… No. He knew that voice too well.

Argent.

Son a Mistrali crime lord, fancied a title for himself as a entrepreneur… in reality, he was one of the deadliest snakes of his ancestor’s home. His teammate, Levi Morado, was in a forced arranged marriage with the vicious man. He and his team have come to blows with Argent many times, but he’s never been brought to justice… Until today. He no doubt had a hand in all of this… madness.

Adam trudged forward to the voices he was hearing, Argent was speaking to another, no doubt a lackey of his. He had turned the corner, and there he was… the long haired, Mistrali crime heir was among several of his hired goons, wearing their uniforms. His eyes at this point were aching but the tears were gone, his ears were throbbing but he could just enough from the other. The enemy saw the pure rage in the Faunus’ face, he seem to held up a hand, his voice… was that actual worry, or…? No, no it couldn’t be. It was a ruse, no doubt, to get his guard down.

“If you kill me… You’ll start a conflict beyond your comprehension”.

Unyielding, Adam unsheathed his greatsword, yelling back in sheer rage; he knew what this man was capable of: “No matter how many steps forward you take… my team and I will drive you back!”

Using what time he could, the Arbor gave a deadly strong swing towards the man; however, there was a moment of surprise when one of his hired hands tried to get in between them. The attack meant for Argent was taken by the unknown person, the blade getting lodged halfway through their neck. As the enemy faction reacted in surprise at the action of brutality, Adam quickly pulled out the blade and allowed the heavily damaged one bleed to death. He proceeded to backhand the man in charge as he was taken aback, using the action to make the other prone and then activate his semblance, his anger finally bubbling over.

The background went red, as he himself and Argent became black silhouettes. A heavy red slash went through the downed man, a brutal cut was evident in the moment… especially so when the body separated in half. The deed was done, Levi would be free, his team’s justice had been made. But his wrath… he wanted more, needed it.

As his semblance wore off, and the shock value of the actions reaching its end; Adam had to work quickly. The bull Faunus immediately cleaved the side of one of the criminal’s faces, quickly facing another, having to spin around to dodge the incoming rifle and stab the man through the skull. With the three remaining, the Arbor proceeded to uppercut one of them, causing the man to be pushed through the air and dropped prone. The student heaved up his big sword, using gravity and his strength to force it down onto the criminal’s skull. With some quick thinking, Adam quickly turned around and threw his sword towards one of the two remaining ones. The big weapon managed to impale one of them, the blade cutting through their chest, the lethal blow would kill the man. What he heard next halted him for a moment, but what he saw… he knew what was the truth.

“Adam!”

The sole survivor grabbed for his shoulder, saying his name. The voice sounded… no, he refused anymore truth. Argent no doubt told his men of the troublesome students, that’s why this one knew his name. This one was trying to trick him, nothing special.

Just another criminal to put down.

Adam grabbed the throat of the sole survivor by the throat, utilizing force and strength to throw them several feet away in retaliation. He was weaponless, but the Faunus found himself approaching nevertheless, quickly grabbing a discarded helmet and kneeling on top the chest of remaining one. This wouldn’t be pretty… but this was to send a message. Not only to Argent’s family, but to all of those that were ringmasters of this event. This was revenge, the Arbor way, the Taurus way.

Rendered defenseless as they fall backwards, he rides them into the ground as he pulls up the sturdy helmet, alternating between bashing their face with his free fist and bludgeoning them with the object. After peppering them with multiple savage wounds and blows, their face a bloody mess, the slowly drained student stands up, satisfied, while he leaves his dead target bleeding with what life they had left.

As his anger subsided, his eyes… began to feel less rough, his ears began to clear up. He first heard the sounds of battle and Grimm many ways away, buildings crumbling as well. His sight…

He had to quickly muster a lot of willpower to not start dry heaving right where he was. What he saw… what he saw, was a scene so nightmare fueling it made the terrors of the Bible pitiful.

He didn’t kill Argent and his criminals.

Bowen Olive, his partner, was cleaved in half, by… it was by the Moonslice he had committed. His lip began to quiver as he stared at his deceased body for several moments, he practically had to avert his gaze and look another one. This one was no better. It was… Levi Morado, his teammate that he was trying to help in this matter. She was the one that… stepped in between Argent-- Bowen, she tried to stop him. She tried to save Bowen. And he killed her. His stomach churned as he came to this sick realization, glancing at the other bodies in sheer shock. Atlas soldiers, men who were simply doing their jobs. They… They were probably trying to escort his teammates to safety. And he killed them without much thought, thinking they were just common criminals needing to be put down. He… He reluctantly looked to the one he killed last, hoping to Jesus, Mary, and Joseph…

Yvette Rosado. The knight like fighter from Atlas, she… her… Her face. Her teeth and eyes were left mangled. Worse still, her eyes were slightly moved after the blows… She must of lived long enough to feel the blows and the damage they had done. At this point, the Faunus couldn’t take it anymore and vomited at his feet, his eyes beginning to burn and tear up. Where did it go wrong? What happened? What happened to him?! How could he do it… For a moment, nothing. But then, the answer came clear.

The strange Grimm.

It obscured his vision, hearing, and… possibly emotions. Maybe it made him furious when he came into contact with his illusions? Or… maybe that was his own damn fault. He couldn’t trust himself anymore. Adam struggled to walk over to his weapon, stuck in an Atlesian soldier’s chest. He tiredly pulled it out, wincing very hard once seeing the blade was drenched in blood. The Faunus didn’t bother getting the blood off, quickly trying to sheath the blade as he looked once more over the bodies. His eyes at this point were welting with tears, he practically sobbed to his deceased team and the soldiers:

“I didn't... I didn't want you to die!”

He was breathing heavily, feeling intense emotions; he’d have to leave this scene. He’d attract Grimm at this rate… possibly already did. Adam gave the dead one last look, before priorly struggling to rush off, eventually managing a good enough sprint away.

The bull Faunus had come a long way, he stared down the entrance to where he knew Ruby and all her friends would need her. He slowly reached for the handle of the door, before stopping for a moment, quickly reeling back his arm as a bolt struck the wooden structure. Adam quickly turned around, unsheathing his sword… after doing so, and facing who it was, he actually winced and frowned in response. He quietly murmured:

“...Argent”.

The crossbow bolt came from one of his henchmen, who casually loaded another one, standing behind his boss. The long haired, reputable crime heir stepped forward, twirling his dark, deadly curved blades in his hands. He dropped all pretenses of a smart mouthed wiseguy, his face held a narrowed and dark expression. His words held only the most vilest poison laced words to be shared with the caught off guard Faunus:

"I know... what you did... Adam… You and your friends, you’re all fucking dead... I’ll wring your fucking neck".

Adam knew all too good why he was reacting as such, Levi… the memory pained him so much, but he had to remain strong in this moment. Ruby… Jaune… the lot of them, they needed him right now. And if that meant fighting off these new threats, and then joining them in there? ...He’d do it. But it’d take time. After a long exhale, the Arbor’s eyes narrowed to the threat. And after a moment of silence, the battle had begun.
