I am desperate enough to ask this on f-ing tumblr, but nothing else has helped so far:
Does anyone know if the 2 equilibrium points (that are not (0,0,0)) of the Lorenz system are stable or not? And what is their classification (eg saddle point etc)?
I am going insane trying to figure it out but I just can't.

As a 3rd year PhD student, this is a real problem, unfortunately. In my experience though, there are also a lot of people who are really impressed by people who can do math! It's a mixed bag, but there are also plenty of places for people who are excited about math!
Your department might have a math grad student organization you could join, or you could just attend events they organize.
You can go to conferences. Your supervisor might even be able to cover the cost using grants, so you get to go for free!
If you're in the US, you could join the American Marhematical Society, which has meetings and lecture series. If you're Canadian, you could join the Canadian Mathematical Society, which also has meetings, and even has a Student Committee that organizes student activities and events. Other countries probably have similar societies for mathematicians.
Please don’t feel bad about studying math just because some people suck!
The mathematics community is really inclusive, and we're always happy to bring more people into the fold!
seriously though i hate telling ppl i study math. if ppl ask what i do i just say i work at my job i don't even want to talk abt school. in my masters program i'm actually somehow doing better than my classmates for the first time in years but i can't feel proud of myself when it comes to other people. it's like i have to feel apologetic for being a fucking weirdo who can do math. it always is such a dumb uncomfortable conversation. when will people be normal about people who can do some math

Why Student Hates Mathematics
Tumblr media
Most students complain about how hard math is. They either defer their mathematics assignments to time infinity or depend on maths assignment help experts to solve their assignments. This raises one pertinent question — Why is such an interesting subject (that too, which deals with logic and reasoning) dreaded by so many students in Singapore?
Experts who provide help with maths assignments conducted research and saw that for most students, this subject is not a source of satisfaction but rather a starting point for discouragement, frustration and anxiety. And here are the reasons behind it:
1. There are limited ways to earn marks
With arts-related subjects such as English, History, or geography, the evaluation criteria depend on a variety of factors like spelling, grammar, creativity, punctuation, style etc. But in the case of math, there are limited opportunities to earn marks as an answer can only be right or wrong.
Tip: Experts who provide mathematics assignment help in Singapore suggest that students should consider it as an opportunity to secure maximum marks. A positive attitude will keep you motivated to learn, and if you work hard to understand each of the steps, no one will be able to stop you from securing the A+ mark sheet of your dreams.
2. Students tend to get bored with numerical problems
A survey in Singapore recently revealed that most students tend to dislike math as they feel that it’s dull and boring. They don’t find interest in formulas and numbers as the abstract and irrelevant figures do not appeal to them the same way history, science or geography does.
Tip: Try to involve math in a real-world scenario to spark your interest in the subject. From totalling the grocery items to being able to tell the time correctly, it is all Maths. Also, check out this cool article to know how math is interrelated with music.
3. It demands lots of mugging up
Various experts who provide online Maths assignment help have observed that students struggle with memorising the multiple rules and equations. As they proceed with their academic courses, the level of difficulty of the equations keeps on increasing, thus adding to their stress.
Tip: Instead of blindly memorising the formulas, try to understand the ‘why and how’ behind each of the equations. Once you understand the concepts thoroughly, you won’t get discouraged any more. You can also practice brain teasers to train your brain.
Just because you are performing poorly in class due to your lack of interest in maths, it doesn’t mean that you cannot improve. Practice every day and follow the tips mentioned above, and you will definitely pass with flying colours this semester.

How Teachers Can Counter the Challenge of Mathematical Anxiety among Students
It is an open secret that the early years of many children are marred by mathematical anxiety at school. Worse, this fear psychosis among children is seen to be carried forward in their upcoming lives. Despite the delicate nature of this daily anxiety of students for maths, countries like the USA have failed to understand the gravity of the situation and claim that only the “gifted” ones have “what it takes” to learn mathematics.
Looking at the scheme of things from a different perspective, the top schools in India have experienced and learned faculties to impart education in all subjects including mathematics. But the basic challenge for teachers remains the same as far as combating math phobia is concerned. To start with, teachers of the best schools in delhi walk the tightrope due to the fact that they are left to handle a class with strong student strength that makes it difficult to give individual attention to the students. There is also a time constraint to cover the syllabus so examinations can be conducted at the right time of the academic year. The list is endless but there are also ways to counter the challenge of maths-phobia that may push the students off the track to a successful career.
Tumblr media
1.     Give a boost to student’s confindence- Instilling the confidence among the students that they can overcome the challenges of maths-phobia is the first step to be taken by the best school in India. It has been observed that students get pushed to the oblivion mainly due to their failure to gauge the subject previously, a stigma they simply cannot come out of. Therefore, a brief interactive session with students on a regular basis would not only decrease the level of anxiety among students, it can also help teachers to identify the student’s shortcomings.
2.     Strengthen student’s basic skills- Enough has been said on this vertical but very little has been done thus far. The vast syllabus of mathematics covers a bevy of mathematical calculations and topics that can be taxing. Therefore, the learning curve should always start with lessons mental maths and basic calculations so the students can develop computational fluency.
3.     Avoid overburdening- In other words, the excessive practice of various topics in mathematics can create a stalemate in the minds of students who are already overwhelmed by the jitters of a subject they struggle with. Therefore must not expect that the students who are already lagging behind in the subject would solve and execute each and every question which is tossed at them. It is only after a  routine practice of the subject, that too by following a reasonable gap period in between that the best school in delhi would be able to see the desired results.
4.     Inculcate the spirit of growth- It’s true. A slight push in the morale of a student can definitely help the children tread the extra mile all by themselves. While the “results” and marks are a reflection of a student’s performance, it may not be the right data to see an occurrence of growth in students. Therefore, the spirit of growth and confidence can be spread through children by helping them realize that they are merely facing temporary hurdles like inability to solve mathematical questions.
5.     The onus is on the teachers- This must not be construed as an aspersion. But a teacher’s approach toward the relatively less accustomed student in mathematics can be the biggest determiner. Hence, teachers should begin with creating relaxed environment amidst the build up created by the fear of marhematics. In the elementary level, the top school in india should adopt the methods like maths puzzle and games on mental maths even more.
Another strategy that has so far been pretty successful is the introduction of smart classrooms especially for mathematics. It is true that almost every subject requires explanation in a more interactive way but since mathematics is more about numerals and arithmetic reasoning through theories and numbers, the top school in delhi must induct smart classrooms.
Finally, it must be understood by students as well as the purists of the subject that mathematics is one of the many subjects that provides an avenue to learn, excel and help in building a strong career. It is definitely necessary to have the knowledge of the subject but it’s certainly not the end of the world for students whose mathematical skill is only a little above the par.
