Rust in vrede, Mata Hari. Born Margaretha Zelle in Leeuwarden, Netherlands, she spent some time in her youth in the Dutch East Indies, where she started calling herself Mata Hari (Malay for “sun”) for her exotic dance gigs. After an abusive marriage, Zelle moved to Paris and danced for the French set (claiming to be Javanese originally), including into the time of the Great War, where she was, so it would seem, used and manipulated by both sides before being exposed (probably by the Germans) as a “spy” and executed by the French on this date 100 years ago at the age of 41. Her trial and other previously sealed documents are set to be released today.

Idk if anyone else is ever drawn toward certain historic figures but one of my favorite lesser known ones in history would have to be Mata Hari.
Maybe I was her in a past life...? lol
From Wiki:
Margaretha Geertruida "Margreet" MacLeod (née Zelle; 7 August 1876 – 15 October 1917), better known by the stage name Mata Hari was a Dutch exotic dancer and courtesan who was convicted of being a spy for Germany during World War I. Despite her having admitted under interrogation to taking money to work as a German spy, many people still believe she was innocent because the French Army needed a scapegoat. She was executed by firing squad in France.

Hailey Reeves Past Lives
Helen of Troy, doomed to be reborn time and time again with all memories of her previous life wiped from her mind.
Queen Nefertiti mid-1300s BC
An Egyptian queen renowned for her beauty, Nefertiti ruled alongside her husband, Pharaoh Akhenaten. Nefertiti and her husband were known for a religious revolution, in which they worshiped one god only, Aten, or the sun disc. With her husband, she reigned at what was arguably the wealthiest period of Ancient Egyptian history. Little is known about the origins of Nefertiti, but her legacy of beauty and power continue to intrigue scholars today. Her name is Egyptian and means "a beautiful woman has come."
Shi Yiguang 506 BC - ?
Xi Shi was one of the renowned Four Beauties of ancient China. Xi Shi's beauty was said to be so extreme that while leaning over a balcony to look at the fish in the pond, the fish would be so dazzled that they forgot to swim and sank below the surface. This description serves as the first two characters of the Chinese idiom 沉魚落雁, 閉月羞花(pinyin: chényú luòyàn, bìyuè xiūhuā) which is used to compliment someone's beauty.
Phyrne 371 BC - ?
Phryne's real name was Mnēsarétē but owing to her yellowish complexion she was called Phrýnē, a nickname frequently given to other courtesans and prostitutes. Athenaeus wrote that on the occasion of the festivals of the Eleusinia and Poseidonia she would let down her hair and step naked into the sea. Many praised her beauty, causing numerous artists to depict her over the years. Her beauty was so great it brought about her acquittal when she was put on trial. She was even used as the model for a statue of Aphrodite, Praxiteles’ famous Aphrodite of Knidos.
Lady Godiva ~1040 - ~1068.
Godiva, Countess of Mercia was an English noblewoman who, according to a legend dating at least to the 13th century, rode naked – covered only in her long hair – through the streets of Coventry to gain a remission of the oppressive taxation that her husband imposed on his tenants. The name "Peeping Tom" for a voyeur originates from later versions of this legend in which a man named Thomas watched her ride and was struck blind or dead.
Samyukta 12th Century
Samyukta was the beautiful daughter of Jaichand, the King of Kannauj, who then became the wife of Prithviraj Chauhan, the Rajput King of the Chauhan clan. Samyukta was a headstrong girl who was known for her bewitching beauty. The love between Prithviraj and Samyukta is one of India's most popular medieval romances.
Lucrezia Borgia 1480 – 1519
A famous Italian beauty known for her blonde hair and fair skin. Her family arranged several marriages for her that advanced their own political position including Giovanni Sforza (Lord of Pesaro), Alfonso of Aragon (Duke of Bisceglie), and Alfonso I d'Este (Duke of Ferrara). Rumors about her and her family cast Lucrezia as a femme fatale, a role in which she has been portrayed in many artworks, novels and films. Her legacy—beauty, murder, passionate affairs, and perhaps above all courage, or rather nerve—is one that fascinates historians, storytellers, and gossips alike.
Queen Elizabeth the First 1558 - 1603
Known as The Virgin Queen, Elizabeth attracted more than her fair share of suitors but continued a serious game of “playing hard to get” throughout her life. While she had her pick of men, the powerful Queen never officially settled down until much later. Elizabeth is acknowledged as a charismatic performer and a dogged survivor in an era when government was ramshackle and limited, and when monarchs in neighbouring countries faced internal problems that jeopardised their thrones.
Marie Antoinette 1755 – 1793
Marie Antoinette, the last Queen of France before the French Revolution, was famous for her beautiful looks and charm - though her lavish lifestyle may have ultimately lead to her demise. Born an Archduchess of Austria, she became Dauphine of France upon her marriage to Louis-Auguste. As consort to Louis XVI, she was beheaded nine months after he was, on October 16, 1793, by order of the Revolutionary tribunal after the overthrow of the monarchy in August 1792.
Mata Hari 1876 - 1917
Margaretha Geertruida "Margreet" MacLeod, better known by the stage name Mata Hari, was a Dutch exotic dancer and courtesan who was convicted of being a spy for Germany during World War I. An exotic dancer in Paris, Mata Hari also worked as a double agent. She moved to France from her native Netherlands and won acclaim as a dancer with her promiscuity, flirtatiousness and willingness to flaunt her body in a way that was rare in the early 1900s.
Audrey Hepburn 1929 – 1993
Audrey Hepburn was a British actress, model, dancer and humanitarian. Recognized as a film and fashion icon, Hepburn was active during Hollywood's Golden Age. She was ranked by the American Film Institute as the third-greatest female screen legend in Golden Age Hollywood and was inducted into the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame. Hepburn's influence as a style icon continues several decades after the height of her acting career in the 1950s and 1960s. In 2004, Hepburn was named the "most beautiful woman of all time” and "most beautiful woman of the 20th century"

PAST LIVES OF SIENNA : | 1876 - 1917 | : MATA HARI
Born Margaretha Geertruida “Margreet” MacLeod, Mata Hari was an exotic dancer and courtesan who became the toast of Paris due to her proactive dance style. The attention led her to become the mistress of many powerful men, and her travels with them took her all over Europe. As WWI broke out, she used her natural eroticism and allure to seduce secrets as a German spy, code named H-21. She was arrested, tried, and then executed by firing squad in France.
In this life Selene had all her memories.

W 1891 roku zmarła jej matka, a ojciec zbankrutował. Wkrótce urodził im się syn, Norman John, z którym w maju 1897 roku wyjechali do Holenderskich Indii Wschodnich, gdzie Kapitan McLeod wrócił do służby, jaką pełnił w kolonii. 13 lutego 1917 roku aresztowano ją i z luksusowego pokoju w hotelu przewieziono do więzienia. Oskarżono ją o szpiegostwo i współpracę z wywiadem wroga. Twierdziła, że pieniądze dostawała za usługi seksualne. Ani obrona jednego z najsławniejszych adwokatów, mecenasa Cluneta, ani wstawiennictwo jej wysoko postawionych kochanków – Cambona, ambasadora Francji w Madrycie i de Marguerie, urzędnika Ministerstwa Spraw Zagranicznych – nie zdołały jej uratować.
