Day 4: the Forest Queen
cw: blood, self-cutting for magic purposes
@margaretweek
(thanks so much to @margaretweek for the image description!!) [id: a four page black and white comic featuring Margaret, The Forest Queen, and Travis. Page 1: The first panel shows a silhouette of Margaret running through a black forest with the narration “Margaret had heard the stories” in front of her. The rest of the page is a shot of Margaret’s booted feet running and the bottom of her skirt, with the narration “She knew the trials of women who challenged gods and fair folk” on the ground.
Page 2: The top of the page shows Margaret running, exchanging dialogue with someone off page.”Margaret! Margaret help me!” “William?!” “Is that you, darling?” “I’m here, where are you?” The three panels below all show shots of hands, a hand emerging from water with an overflowing cup narrated “Psyche crossing the Styx for Eros’s hand in marriage”, a hand holding a nettle like a needle narrated “A youngest daughter sewing up nettles to break her brothers’ swan curse,” and two hands clasped to the chest narrated “Janet scorching her palms on the red ember of Tamlin’s body.” The bottom panel shows Margaret standing at the edge of a river with the offscreen voice saying “across the river- please hurry!”. The narration around her reads “The Maiden does not fear pricks or burns or the waves at her feet. The maiden is brave and good. She is in love and willing to die for it.”
Page 3: The full page shows Margaret reaching into the water, desperate, with two panels showing how she drew her knife and cut across her palm. A dark cloud of blood surrounds her hand in the river. She says “Allow me safe passage, just once, and you can have me when I return”, and the narration adds “she pleaded with the river”.
Page 4: The first panel shows Travis with a giant hand over his face muffling his attempts to speak. The words in the speech bubbles coming from him are unreadable save for a few exclamation marks. The narration reads “But for all our heroine’s devotion and determination, there’s one thing that never occurred to her.” The second panel shows The Forest Queen, holding travis to her side while calling with his voice “Can you hear me, love? Can you hear me, love?” The third panel pulls closer to her face, her hand still raised, but now she looks directly at the viewer. “I know the stories too” /end id]

margaret week 2021, day one: cycles / rebirth / the river
there must have been a moment, at the beginning, where we could have said - no. but somehow we missed it.
…well, we’ll know better next time.
[ID: A digital illustration of Margaret from Campaign: Skyjacks. She is a South Asian woman with brown skin, dark, curly hair that falls to her shoulders, and a serene expression on her face. She wears a white, green, silver and gold saree with floral patterns, and a flower crown. She is facing a white raven that is perched on her finger. She stands in a forest — the leaves are red and gold, and thorns, wildflowers, mushrooms, and other wildflowers grow abundantly. The illustration is enclosed by a fancy border made of two pillars with various plant motifs. At the top of the left pillar is Travis Matagot — a pale man in a green suit with white hair, completely black eyes, and a pattened ascot. At the top of the right pillar is the Forest Queen — a grinning, pale woman with white hair, a crown of branches, pointed ears, completely black eyes, and a sash she wraps around her arms and waist. Her skin has a wooden texture, and her ribs — also made of wood — are exposed. The three of them are all covered with dappled lighting. /end ID]

Margaret Week Day 2 | Black Lilies
every heart is broken, oh, you tell yourself wide open lover
@margaretweek
[Image Description:
A pin-up drawing of the Black Lily Margaret from the Campaign Skyjacks Podcast. She is a thin young trans woman of color with warm-toned brown skin and dark amber-brown eyes. Her dark brown curly hair reaches below her shoulders and haloes out largely behind her. Her hair is swept over her shoulders, showing a tattoo of a black lily on the left side of her neck. Margret is looking directly at the viewer with slightly parted lips and an open but seductive expression.
The drawing shows Margaret sitting on the ground with her legs folded underneath her, but spread in a wide V; she is holding a bouquet of flowers strategically between her thighs. Margaret wears nothing but light green lingerie; her bralette covers her small/flat chest and has long lace detailing that reaches over her lower ribcage. Her panties are covered by her arms, the flowers, and her thigh fat.
The bouquet is made up out of black and white lilies, white and dark purple roses, and green and brown filler leaves. One of the white lilies is placed provocatively exactly between her legs, a pink blush rising from the opening of the flower.
The background is solid pastel yellow. The artist’s watermark is left to Margaret’s hips, displaying a simplified sun with the letter “S” inside of it.

[id: The first image is a card layed out like the luminaries of the card game Illimat. It is a long rectangular card with an illustration at the top and at the bottom the name of the card ”The Union’’. The second image is the illustration on its own, without the card layout surrounding it. In the bottom right of the illustration is a round mark, used in illimat to identify if luminaries are base game or from the expansion. This image has a simplified black lily with red stamen as its mark.
The image is split in a top half and bottom half and each side mirrors the other. The top half has Travis Matagot, a white man with white shoulder length hair half of which is up in a bun, wearing a loose white blouse, black pants that come up to his waist and a green fabric belt. The bottom half has margaret, a light brown woman with loose curly dark brown hair wearing a white dress with a blue fabric belt. Both of them are in a lounging position across their (relative) bottom edge of the image and hold up a card with the card back to the viewer. Travis’ card has a sun and moon motif on the back, while Margaret’s has two lily’s in the same style as the mark. A red thread that loops behind the cards connects the hands that hold up the cards. In the bottom left and top right is an upright stem of black bell like flowers, in a similar shape to a foxglove plant /end id]
Today is the third day of @margaretweek ! Which is a fan event to celebrate the @campaignskyjacks NPC Margaret. My fanart is based on the wonderfull card faces drawn by Carson Ellis for the card game Illimat. It really inspired me to experiment with a style I’m not used to and a limited colour palette to tie all cards together and I had a lot of fun with it. Some of the ideas behind the design are below the cut.
I really enjoyed the episode “Behind the Sails: luminaries and starwatching”, where it’s established that all Luminaries are drawn uniquely based on the relation the artist has with it. So when I saw the  prompts with luminary cards I was immediatly inspired to draw Luminaries based on Margaret’s story.
Of all seven drawings, this is the one that most resembles the original card. The illimat luminaries all reflect their effect, and the effect of the union is that two cards now count as one. This one reflects the bond between Travis and Margaret and the way they mirror each other. Their belts are the natural phenomenon they are tied to. Travis is tied to the forest queen and Margaret is tied to the river. Their bond, the red string, ties them to each other. Travis’ card back was pretty easy to think up. I wanted to keep it black and white and immediatly thought of his day-night cycle.
I had a lot of fun finding a suitable flower called ‘lily’ for every card. For day 3 we have the Persian Lily (Fritillaria persica) which is native to a large range of countries, namely Iran (which is where it got it’s name), Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Cyprus, Palestine and Israel. This is the first one that is an actual member of the Lily family.

My contribution to @margaretweek !!!! The prompt I took was the rusalka one,because while I know margarets card is the maiden there's a lot of margaret as rivers daughter or as a river lily,so I thought it would be fun to be like margaret and the rusalka like travis and the forest queen as a little treat
(Image ID: two pictures of the same art: two women,one staring at a reflection and one staring at the viewer. The former has brown skin and wavy hair,that's tied with a grey ribbon. She wears a green dress with a grey belt and a wristband with a red gem,and is raising her right hand at the mirror,with a worried expression. The latter has the same hand raised,mimicking the action,and they almost touch hands. She has light blue skin and black straight hair,with a mischievous expression. Her dress is a darker blue and is shredded in places to show off her skin and is frayed on the hem. Between there's the aforementioned mirror,with a red border framing it. End ID.)

Margaret week day 1: the River
Starring Maiden Margaret in the role of Drowned Ingénue
@margaretweek
[image description: a drawing of margaret, a woman with brown skin and dark auburn hair wearing a blue-green dress, as John Everett Millais’ painting of Ophelia. She lies in a river in a forest with her face, chest, upturned palms, and some layers of her skirt floating above the surface. her eyes are open but pale and unfocused. there are handfuls of flowers—black lilies, columbines and sweet williams— scattered on the water around her. It is night, and through the trees in the background the silhouette of the Forest Queen with glowing yellow eyes stands below the full moon. /end ID]

Margaret Week Day 6 | The Changeling
so i looked at you to see you change, change into something true
@margaretweek
[Image Description:
A digital painting of Margaret from the Campaign Skyjacks Podcast and her four changeling forms. The image is painted in an ensemble style poster, a portrait of Margaret overlapping her stacked animal forms that fan out behind her.
Margaret is a young woman of color with warm-toned brown skin and dark amber-brown eyes. Her dark brown curly hair is voluminous and reaches over her shoulders. She is missing her black lily tattoo on the left side of her neck. Margaret wears a neutral expression and is looking directly at the viewer, her chin slightly lifted.
Behind Margaret on her right fan out her four animal forms, all in solid brown except for some lighter or white accents. Next to her shoulder is a sandhill crane with a red forehead, her neck bowed into an S-shape. Directly stacked behind at face-height is a brown fox that has her mouth wide open as if snarling or bellowing, showing an impressive row of sharp teeth. A hissing otter is stacked over and behind the fox, in a similar pose — mouth wide open with her teeth bared. Overlapping the otter but not the fox is a stag with branched antlers that reach out of frame. The crane and the stag are looking at the viewer, the otter and the fox are looking toward the right.
The background has a solid dark blue frame with a smaller gray rectangle upon which the ensemble is placed. They are backlit by a green elliptical halo. On the bottom of the picture is a large creme colored serif title reading “The Changeling”.

The river entry fits both themes of today: cycles and rebirth and the river. This might be the Margaret that Travis lost in the river or the one that washed ashore and was taken in by the Black Lillies. This is the Margaret in the dormant state between the end of one story and the start of the next.
I had a lot of fun finding a suitable flower called ‘lily’ for every card. Today’s lillies are the Black Princess water lily (Nymphaea "Black Princess"). It is part of the water lily family and thus not a member of the real lilly family, but they look absolutely stunning. I highly encourage everyone to google them, I could not do the deep rich red colour justice in the limited stylistic colour palette I chose for the cards.

Howdy folks! Ash @the-ipre here, it’s been a blast to help moderate Margaret Week and run the Tumblr. Today is the final day of Margaretweek 2021, but that doesn’t mean it’s the end!
Unending thanks to everyone involved! To James for the shoutouts, support, and sharing “the Maiden and the Hart”, to my fantastic co-organizer Saph (twitter) for all of her hard work, creativity, and dedication, and to all of you reading this! All of the fan contributions have been incredible to see, and we thank you for sharing them with us!
Margaret Week may be over for the moment, but that doesn’t mean we are done! We will continue to reblog late submissions and track the #margaretweek tag, both here and on twitter. And who knows! Margaret Week might make a comeback next year, depending on what the Lumins have in store.
There are no kings. Take flight!
