THE TYRELLS ARE A POWERFUL HOUSE, his brother had told him. " perhaps they will make something honest of you yet, daemon. " in truth, he had exhausted it all now - master of coin, of laws, commander of the city watch. they had called him KING in the step stones, a land he had forged into a kingdom with blood and dragonfire. they had given him a crown atop his head and a worthy title to follow. and yet, he grew tired and bored, his bones aching for kings landing or dragonstone or something that meant something.

but viserys had begin to grow weary of daemon, as did the realm, it seemed. they thought him too ambitious, too thirsty for rule. they had exiled him to barren bloodstone, so afraid of what he might do if he were to remain in king's landing. all that he had done, and this is how they had thanked him.

now, his brother lay dying and grew desperate to make amends. the small council had warned him that daemon was no good, that he was the last person they would want in the capital when the inevitable had happened. a compromise had to be made.

there had been threats of betrothals and marriages before when daemon had stepped out of line. in fact, there had even been one short lived betrothal between himself and rhea rhoyce of runestone, a dreadfully boring woman with a castle to match. he had managed to avoid that when he had left for step stones and begged his brother to cast her aside, claiming if he were to succeed, he would become a king in his own right who deserved something more than that BRONZE BITCH.

his brother, the weak and spineless fool he could be, had told him he was to marry margaery tyrell and claimed it was his own idea as his new queen stood by his side, a small smile on her lips. if he chose not to, the step stones lay waiting for him once more.

so it seemed there was no second option. FLOWERS AND DRAGON FIRE, how silly it was. queen alicent had promised that she was a lovely girl and that both the lady and men at court had been charmed by her beauty and kindness. how dull, daemon thought. even the bronze bitch had a little more edge than that.

it was in the small garden of the red keep that daemon had planned to meet his bride-to-be for the first time. the queen had already taken to planning the wedding, which was to be a 𝓢𝓹𝓮𝓬𝓽𝓪𝓬𝓾𝓵𝓪𝓻 𝓐𝓯𝓯𝓪𝓲𝓻 and allowed the couple time to get to know one another, a luxury rarely afford to the betrothed.

he stood, waiting, already eager to leave. he would afford the girl no more than ten minutes of his time, then make way to flea bottom where the real treasures could be found. a rose had been arranged to be delivered to the prince's room before he left. daemon was unsure whether it was his brother or his queen that had organised the lovely gift, no doubt for him to give to the tyrell girl. regardless, the rose had promptly been disposed of.

i adore shae & sansa. i love this change i think it’s the best change they ever did. the way sansa just went through this intense dinner & is taking her anger out on shae, just a lowly maid, but shae is so unflappable & notices sansa is crying and just decides to stop bitching. sansa wanting someone to brush her hair when one of the first scenes we got of her was catelyn brushing sansa’s hair…

so the margaery character change is the next big one (i’m not ranting about talisa yet). i understand wanting to focus in on her, how she plays the game, how she ~weaponizes~ her femininity in order to gain status. the thing is. i don’t like the ultimate decision to make margaery & olenna the acting heads of their houses when in reality, the tyrell plot is often olenna trying to act AROUND her dumb ass son!! i think this goes back to aging up those 14 year old characters - just makes their stories a bit hollow imo. also this first dress is so ugly omgggg

🐅 + loras and/or the other tyrells!!

I think Loras is mostly sober and looks down on those who drink on the job, considering his attitude when he and Jaime are talking about members of the kingsguard. He only ever drinks a little bit of wine since he can only drink so much before getting drunk. I think he definitely glares at his fellow kingsguard members when they drink more than a glass and mocks them when they aren’t around.

He’s the gossiper of the kingsguard and can be quite lewd about it when he wants to. “They cut [Lucamore Strong’s] cock off. Shall I sing the song for you, my lord?” and “[Terrence Toyne] bedded the king’s mistress and died screaming. The lesson is, men who wear white breeches need to keep them tightly laced.” are the words of a master gossiper. Snarky icon.

I also think he’s a good singer and was trained in it alongside Margaery and his other siblings from a young age. He probably likes collecting songs as well and takes note of them when he hears them (see him knowing a song about Lucamore getting his dick chopped off). He and Renly likely got a lot of enjoyment from fun, bawdy songs.

Basically the conversation Loras and Jaime have about the kingsguard of the past are very revealing to his character I think. He’s one for gossip, enjoys lewd songs and possible artwork (Renly kept a collection of pornographic material) as well, and is extremely judgemental. Loras obviously spent a lot of time around Olenna and I feel like people often forget that he is as much Olenna’s grandson as Margaery is her granddaughter. It’s also the Hightower asshole genes coming out to play methinks.

He genuinely thinks highly of his siblings, in my opinion. Considering Loras is so quick to gossip yet only ever speaks highly of his siblings, even claiming Garlan is a better knight than Loras when according to George, Loras is one of the greatest active knights in Westeros, I think it really shows that he absolutely adores them.

About him being a Hightower, I like to believe he finds Hightower mythology interesting but at the same time I think he’d turn his nose up at it. He likes the concept but he feels like the potential of house Hightower isn’t being reached and it’s just kind of a pathetic display. His grandfather, Lord Hightower, likely tried to indoctrinate Alerie’s kids but it never ended up working out for whatever reason. I do think Loras would’ve been a cool ass battlemage type character if such a thing is possible with whatever secret magic the Hightowers have up their sleeves. He’s a battlemage at heart to me.
