A Little Warmth.

Manager: Marco Rose. Words: 676 Request: blurb. The one he gives you smooth massage, rubs your tummy and feet, lowers lights brings out candles then as you sitting between his legs your back touches his chest he hums soft melody to calm you down and reduces your pain. ✨ (I go for Rose on this one)

Marco, unlike a lot of the “men” you’d countered previously, was not freaked out by the word “period” and did not shy away from helping strip the bed if you got your period early. Snack runs and any sanitary product you needed was not something that made him embarrassed. He’d enter the store armed with a screen shot of the exact product you’ve requested and buy everything without an ounce of shame.

He’d buy comfort foods, make the meals that he knew you loved and craved around this time of the month and run you a bath, ensuring that oversized pjs had been warmed on the radiators ready to be put on. Hot water bottles were filled in preparation. Marco knew you needed comfort during this time and he’d do everything he could to ensure that happened.

Today, you needed comforting, you just didn’t know how. A hot bath had done nothing for your cramps but had made you feel sleepy. You felt hungry but sick at the thought of eating. You were tired but too awake. You craved a cuddle from Marco but wanted for him to be nowhere near you, only to sit and pout because he wasn’t close to you after either one of you had moved.

When you let out a pained whimper, Marco sighs and shakes his head. “Come here.”

“No.”

“Come. Here.” He says more sternly, already moving the cushions behind him and opening his legs.

You know you don’t have a choice, he’s pulled you into his lap more often than you can say when you’ve been in this kind of mood and he always made you feel better for it. Your stubborn ass just wouldn’t admit it until he took charge.

You’re still hesitant. Moving slowly as you make your way between his legs until your back is pressed to his chest. He starts carefully, enveloping you into a hug which makes you melt into him. He splays his hands over your lower abdomen, the heat from them soothing your aches and cramps in a way that you didn’t have to admit helped, your soft moan does that for you instead.

“Helping?”

You hum, giving a small nod too as you say, “yes.”

“Want me to get you a hot water bottle?”

“No, stay here.” you instruct, “but soon.”

You almost feel silly for the way you’re acting, with the sucking in deep breaths and holding it there until they pass, but the cramps have been getting worse as the day goes on and right now, the only thing giving you any relief is his large, warm hands. You make careful, precise strokes by placing your hands on his, pressing down and pulling back up again in massage strokes until he begins to do this automatically.

“Do you want me to dim the lights?”

“Now isn’t the time to get romantic.” Your tone is light and he knows you’re grinning as you say it.

“Always worth a try.” He gives a light kiss to your hair.

“It would be nice though,” you say.

“You’re sure?” he asks and you nod before leaning forward, grimacing a little as your belly twinges.

Marco moves out from behind you, taking care not to nudge into you before he strides across the room and adjusts the lighting. His fingers move to the top of the mantel above the fireplace, hand only lowering once he’s retrieved the firelighter and begins to light the candles that are dotted around the room. It’s a nice touch, and a gesture that makes you smile.

“Thank you,” you quietly say as he takes his place behind you again and tugs up your clothing until his hands are pressed to your bare skin. And only then does he continue to give you the same pressure and care that he had before. He can feel you relaxing against him, the soft hums that reach his ears makes you smile and soon, he’s humming a song of his own as your fingers stroke over the tops of his arms contently.

Let’s start serious and move towards our yearly Thanks blog at the end.

I’ve heard from a lot of you asking if the recent messages that White Wolf have posted on their social media are something that will be bad for Onyx Path. As of this writing, everything we’ve heard from over there is that it’s business as usual between our companies. We are still going to be sending projects over for approvals, they are still the ones who OK our pitches for new WW-IP projects, and we’re still running our successful Chicago By Night KS, the first licensed V5 TTRPG supplement.

So fear not, True Believers!

I mean, I just had to channel Stan Lee there, after last week’s MMN blog.

Which was, oddly enough, the least commented-on blog I think I’ve ever posted. Very strange, but I’m just assuming you were all in mourning for Stan, too.

In case you missed it last week, here is the lovely graphic our own Impish Ian Watson made to show what game lines are wholly Onyx Path‘s, the ones at the top, and which are licensed from whom:

I actually didn’t think we’d need it again so soon, but there does seem to be a fair bit of confusion out there, so feel free to point to this if you need to explain things to a friend.

A bit of related news:

One of the first times I ever heard of Matthew Dawkins, who is our Chicago By Night developer, was when he interviewed me for his YouTube channel a whole bunch of years ago. From then, his Gentlemam Gamer videos have taken deep dives into many of the White Wolf (and other) games, and were very helpful in explaining aspects of V5 during this last year.

Now, Matthew has agreed to create a series of Gentleman Gamer videos for our Onyx Path games starting with the pantheons in Scion 2nd Edition, and you’ll also be seeing Matthew in other ways too, as he helps ramp up our online gaming presence. More on that in the weeks to come!

BUT DON’T WORRY, his dulcet tones are still going to be appearing weekly on the Onyx Pathcast – which this coming Friday features Dixie interviewing Jacqueline “Jax” Bryk with a one-on-one covering not just her work with us, but throughout the TTRPG biz, and how she has become one of our industries leading lights for safe play game writing.

I am thankful that the whole Onyx Path team gave me the opportunity to work on these books in a greater capacity this year. I am thankful that Eddy, Matthew, and Rich are always supportive and willing to answer my many questions, and that Rose Bailey recommended me for this job as she moved on to a new stage in her career. I am thankful for all of my amazing Chronicles of Darkness and Exalted developers, writers, and fans, who continue to do amazing work and be a wonderful community. I am also thankful for lovely editors and indexers, Word’s “track changes” function, and Oxford commas.

From the art and layout side of things, there are these points from Mirthful Mike Chaney, in no particular order he tells me:

Yo Gentlemaniacs, it’s Thanksgiving night, and this is the happiest time of year for all the maniacs, brother! You know, me and all my little Gentsters, we got a lot of things to be thankful for. Number one: we’re thankful for being happy and very healthy. We’re thankful for having time to share with our loved ones. We’re also thankful that Gentlemania is still the strongest force in the universe. And after the turkey’s done, after the blessings are all done, I can tell you what the Gentleman is mostly happy about: it’s SURVIVOR SERIES TIME! And I’m thankful for my team of Gentlemaniacs!!

That, and Onyx Path are pretty cool.

Uhhhhh. He may be cracking under the pressure. Hard to say.

I sometimes sit at my desk, stunned by the realization that I still get to do this after all these years and I’m thankful for that – a lot! Thanks to our creative freelancers who continue to find delightful new ways to verbally and visually describe our game worlds, and our full-time folks who orchestrate all this rampant creativity into the formats and pages that we all love to read and play. Thanks to all of our associated partner companies that give us the reach to deliver and communicate this thing we do to all of you!

Which, of course, actually brings me to all of you and all of our community who have supported us through our growing pains, lo! these many years, and even through pains not of our choosing! Without this intricate eco-system that includes all of us and all of you, we just would not have been able to keep building all our game lines and worlds!

Not expecting Roman to come home early, you had taken advantage of his house. Music was playing at a decent level, not too quiet but not loud enough to cause issues for his neighbours. You’d cleaned, the windows were open to allow a nice fresh breeze in and you were cooking up a storm after building an appetite.

You’d slipped on his hoodie, the feeling of the baggy warmth around your torso felt like a hug from the man himself. His aftershave and body wash clung to the fabric, making it so that each movement you make, the scent drifts upwards. Your need for him was as insatiable as his for you. In a way, you were glad that he’d gone to training, you didn’t think you could have managed anything else from him after last night. 12 months of....

I love the idea of having a month dedicated to certain players. Weekend updates will not change, and will be anyone and everyone, but one day throughout the week will be dedicated to x player to be able to post their requests if they have a lot of them, otherwise I may take some small blurbs to fill the gaps. What this form will tell me, is who you'd like for certain months. I'll then look through the requests that I have and begin to work with them.
