It's kind of funny how technically, S3 Martin is a better Archivist than Jon was ever, like he stayed on track, never talked shit about his coworkers on tape, started and ended the statements in pragmatic ways that allowed for easy access to information. Like bro didn't even have a degree and he's still managing to do it better lol

this but jonah also didn’t know about gertrude’s tape for the next archivist!!! so martin finds it and listens to it and then he knows all of the important info and is really able to gaslight gatekeepers girlboss

Possibly unpopular opinion, I don't think Sasha would make a good Archivist or at least not in the way Gertrude was hoping she would be. Sasha is too similar to Jon when it comes to self preservation and is too aligned with the Eye.

Out of all the original archival crew the one that would most successfully fill Gertrude's role is probably Martin and here's my reasoning.

• Gertrude and Martin relied on people underestimating them as a strategy.

• Martin has been able to catch Elias off guard/get a drop on him multiple times.

• not Eye aligned so less likely to fall to curiosity.

• S5's "kill bill".

• burning the statements.

• was able to survive the horrors and find creative solutions.

If I think of more I'll add it.

the thing with tma is you could shuffle and place pretty much any mc as an archivist and as a not!person au and make it WORK

jarchivist & not!georgie. jarchivist & not!tim. sarchivist & not!martin. tarchivist & not!jon. marchivist & not!sasha. hell, who’s to say melarchivist couldn’t work? or garchivist, or barchivist, or even darchivist? just slightly alter their backstories so that they’ll find themselves in a position where elias both offers them the archivist job and they accept it. just THINK of all the possibilities!!!! no matter who the archivist is, imagining that someone STILL gets not’ed no matter what, is absolutely HAUNTING and i LOVE it.

working ideas for these:

not!georgie au where she visits the institute and ends up in artefact storage, BOOM not’ed ; naturally, jon isn’t even the one who notices. maybe martin or tim?

the classic sarchivist & not!jon au BUT martin is still the ‘anti-christ plus-one’ and gets to watch the smiting of the not!them, sasha james style

sarchivist, not!martin, & archival assistant jon where JON is the only one who thinks something’s kinda off with martin

melarchivist au where she encounters something genuinely Fucked Up at ghost hunt uk pre-jarchivist and literally no one believes her et cerera et cetera so drama happens, ghost hunt uk is abolished, and when melanie heads to the institute elias offers her the position

tarchivist au where he’s still the one who sets off the explosion during the unknowing, but HE’S the only one who survives and all of his friends die in the explosion (yk cause in this case he’s an avatar)

tbh, i think every single one of these characters, no matter who’s the archivist and who’s the not!person, they’d still end up starting the eyepocalypse one way or another, even if their way isn’t as impulsive as jon’s. i just feel like they would!!! i mean, we all know every single character had made incredibly stupid decisions in tma, so…

anyway, just things to think about :)

i know there's a whole debate about the jon/martin ship name and I've seen some basic jonmartin, the more poetic "the marchivist" and the funnier jmart which are all fine and good but i was wondering if anyone suggested yet to use jomarts....... you know ..... like jorts

I love season 5 and relisten to it lots. It was exactly where the show needed to go and the creative shift was refreshing. Ending the series with a giant trolley problem instead of an action scene or sth was great for tying high stakes directly into the characters' worldviews. I would have like Basira to join the Marchivist duo when they met up though, and it's a bit obvious that they were planning to have Martin tied more directly to the Web before changing their minds.🗣

AGREED it was a great conclusion to the story imo and I dont know any other way it couldve turned out
