Finally getting around to starting my BOTM for March.
This one is gonna be a doozy but I’ve heard nothing but good things about it so as much as I’m semi-dreading it I’m also looking forward to it.
#I have a goal to read one non-fiction book a month since I usually only read fiction#BOTM#January’s read was Unoffendable#February’s read was Killers of the Flower Moon

March and BOTM brought 3 shining new books 📚 Well, add Daisy Jones to the mix and you have close to a perfect weekend 😇 Book 1 is the The London Séance Society by Sarah Penner. This one takes us into 1873 Paris and London’s Séance Society and into the occult worlds of spiritualist Vaudeline D’Allaire and her understudy Lenna Wickes. It’s bound to give gothic atmospheric vibes with a murder mystery at its core- high expectations from the author who gave us The Lost Apothecary! Lone Women by Victor LaValle combines Western, historical, psychological, horror, supernatural genres taking us into early 20th century Montana as we follow Adelaide Henry looking to bury her past with just her enormous steamer trunk for company. Dark, tempting and for fans of Stephen King for sure! Weyward by Emilia Hart draws its inspiration from Shakespeare’s Macbeth and three witches referred as “Weyward sisters” as we follow three “Weyward” women across three different centuries connected by nature with a hint of witchcraft- a debut with some great reviews. What’s were your picks for the month? #Bookstagram #botm #thelondonseancesociety #lonewomen #weyward #weywardsisters #macbeth #witchcraft #historical #womenshistorymonth #fantasy #mystery #sarahpenner #paris #london #wildwest #western #horror #supernatural #reesewitherspoon #reesebookclub #montana #emiliahart #VictorLaValle #gothic #march #stmartinspress #oneworld #penguinrandomhouse #parkrowbooks https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpa60NyPELV/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

[ 3:47 PM ] — jay looks at you as he rests on the passenger seat. you were silent which was so unlikely. jay feels uncomfortable with the silent tension, wanting to talk to you. but you were obviously giving him the cold shoulder, keeping your eyes on the road. jay doesn’t know how long you’re going to keep this up, but he also doesn’t know that you can’t resist him.
“what the hell were you thinking, jongseong?” you said, pretending to be mad, but you were just so worried for your poor boyfriend.
“…you?“ he softly chuckles and he sees your hand become whiter as you tighten your grip on the wheel. “i’m sorry, i don’t want you to break up with me?”
“why the hell would i break up with you?” you say.
“you seem to love cats so much, so i thought if you find out i’m allergic, you would get bored at me because i can’t take care of your cats with you, bring you to cat cafes, all cat related stuff!” jay says with a small frown on his lips.
stupid boyfriend, sigh.
stupid adorable boyfriend with such pure heart.
you asked jay if he can take care of your cat along with your dad’s cats with you. he said yes. unknown to you he was allergic as fuck and that he prepared his anti-allergies and more allergy medicines. he started to sneeze after an hour, running to your bathroom with his bag until one of the medicines fall off his bag and you saw.
“jay,” you softly sigh. “it doesn’t matter. i love you no matter what. it’s especially not worth it if you’re going to be hospitalized every damn time!”
“but—“
“no.”
jay frowns and you sigh. “i appreciate it, okay? i really do, jay. it’s the sweetest thing anyone has done for me, but don’t do it again, okay?” you say and jay sighs.
“you’re not breaking up with—“
“oh my god.” you say and he sheepishly chuckles. “nothing will ever make me breakup with you, okay?”
“okay.” he softly says. “i love you.”
“i love you, too.” you smile.
you really do.

synopsis: coming from a meeting, you were rushing out of the office to go to your next class. after a few hours later, you realize you left your phone in the office, so you went to go get it, but when you asked your professor where your phone was, he said he already returned it to the owner already. which owner? the one on your lockscreen. who's your lockscreen? the guy you've had a crush on for months, park jongseong.
pairing: jay x fem!reader
content/genre: college au (as always sigh), slowburn? probably. fluff and angst.

[ 12:42 PM ] — it was his birthday today. why the hell are you not answering his call? it's been more than 24 hours, why are you not answering? honestly, he doesn't know if he's going to be mad or worried.
but you're calling now, so he settles for mad. heeseung rolls his eyes, snuggling into his sheets as he answers the phone. "what?" he snaps.
"what's with 24 missed calls?" you chuckle.
are you actually serious right now? heeseung scoffs. "are you serious, y/n?" he says, glaring at his phone.
"hey, what's wrong?" you said.
"what's wrong?" heeseung repeats. "y/n, what's wrong is that you barely spoke to me for the past week and when you do, it's so dry as if i'm a bother. am i?"
"heeseung, no." you say. "it's just i have been busy for the past week."
"no." heeseung says. "you've always been busy yet when you reply late you would reply with a long ass message and now you can't even reply with three letters."
"seungie, not now." you groan.
"and yesterday, you ghosted me. we talked about that already. no more ghosting shit. i don't care how big your problem is, dump it to me." he said.
"i know, i know. seung, please, just—"
"no." heeseung dismissed. "and please tell me, you didn't actually forget what day it is today."
"um, saturday." you say and heeseung groans. "heeseung, please. i'm sorry. whatever it is, i'm sorry. i just.. it's not a good day, okay?"
heeseung huffs, but he can't help it. "the day's the worst." he agrees and you hum. "what got you so mad about today?"
"my flight got delayed and now, my boyfriend's mad at me." you say and heeseung slowly softens. flight? what?
"flight?" heeseung repeats and you hum. "where to?"
"to my boyfriend." you say. "it's his birthday."
heeseung stands up, grabbing his coat as he puts it on. "where are you?" he says as he grabs his keys, going outside. he opens the door of the hotel, stopping when he sees you standing there with a box of cake on your left hand and your right hand holding your phone against your ear.
you smile. "i'll catch up with you later. my boyfriend's here." you say, ending the call and heeseung shakes his head, smiling but his tears stream down his face. you chuckle, pointing your finger at him. "i got you good."
"you're mean." heeseung says, pulling you into his arms as you wrap an arm around his shoulders.
"happy birthday, baby." you mumble, kissing his cheek. heeseung squeezes you and you pull away. he cups your cheeks but you stop him. "can we put the cake away first? i don't want you dropping it again." you softly ask and heeseung laughs, pecking your lips.
you grab your suitcase, but heeseung grabs it for you as you two get inside. you go to the side where the table is, taking the cake out as you put a candle on it, lighting it up. you smile, hearing heeseung's footsteps and you turn around looking at him.
"happy birthday to you," you softly sing and heeseung chuckles, coming near you as he hugs you. "make a wish, baby."
heeseung looks at his cake, blowing the candle and you smile. you look at him as he rests his forehead against yours, closing his eyes with tears streaming down.
"hey, i'm sorry." you mumble, cupping his cheeks as you wipe his tears off. he shakes his head, smiling.
"i'm just really happy, love." he softly whispers and you hum, kissing his nose as you put your hands behind his neck, closing your eyes. you started to sway the two of you and heeseung chuckles as he sways along.
he starts to hum a soft song as you smile. you play with his nape as he pulls you close to him. "i love you." you mumble and heeseung presses his lips against yours.
"i love you more." he says.

[ 2:27 PM ] — jay leans in, pressing his lips against yours as you were fixing his collar and you, being smitten, can’t help but not pull away to continue fixing it, but chose to melt against the kiss and kiss him back. you smile against the kiss, giggles muffled against jay’s lips as his arms wrap around your waist to pull you impossibly closer to him.
“what’s so funny about me kissing you?” his voice low when he asked, lightly pulling away as he rests his forehead against yours, lips just a breath away.
you shake your head, looking into his eyes through your lashes with a smile on your lips. “you just make me giddy, is all.” you mumble and jay smiles, presses his lips against yours once again. your hands sliding up from his collar to his jaw. “jongseong,” you say against his lips and he hums, kissing you harder because apparently, he’s not doing it hard when you can still talk. you hum, hand going on his chest to softly push him. “you’re gonna be late.”
jay frowns and you smile, hand coming up to his chin as you wipe off your lipstick. “what if i call them and tell them something came up so i can stay with you?” he asks and you chuckle.
“then heeseung would say ‘what, your neediness for y/n?’,” you tease and jay groans, remembering that day when he called in sick because he wanted to stay, but heeseung, of course, knew what was up. “it will just for a few hours, honey. then you’ll be back home, here with me.”
“home is you, y/n.” jay corrects and you smile.
“and you’re mine.” you say as you go back, fixing his collar. after a few minutes, the van honks three times to let you two know they’re out waiting for jay. “take care, love.”
“i’ll see you later.” jay says and you nod.
“i’ll be here.” you say and jay leans in, but you lean back with a smile. you shake your head, gesturing you’re lipstick will transfer on his lips again. normally, you don’t care, but you didn’t want to spoil jay’s look anymore. “go now.”
“but y/n,” jay softly whines and you shake your head. then van honks again, prolonging it this time. you laugh, gesturing to the door. “fine. bye.”
“bye.” you softly say and jay turns around, going to the door, but he turns back. “yeah?”
“my wallet,” he says, walking back. “i forgot my—“ jay cuts himself off as he cups your chin and presses his lips against yours.
jay pulls away with a goofy grin. “park jongseong!” you exclaim, laughing as jay runs out of the shared house, yelling that he loves you. he runs to the van, opening the door as he climbs in and closes it.
heeseung chuckles, shaking his head, jake looks at him with teasing eyes and sunghoon grabs a tissue, pressing it against jay’s lip.
“what the fuck?”
“y/n’s lipstick mark is on your lips, simp.”
“oh.”

## buy one, take me. — l. heeseung
synposis: with his best friend asking him for help because said best friend was scared he wasn't "boyfriend material" enough, heeseung looks for flower shops for his best friend's girlfriend. thankfully, jake knows someone from the university who has an aunt that owns a flower shop, you. now, heeseung messages you and shyly, but shamelessly asks if he can get any promos or discounts to which you shamelessly answered him, "buy one, take me". heeseung doesn't pass on this, of course. after all, you are pretty damn cute.
pairing: heeseung x fem!reader
content/genre: college au, slowburn, fluff, angst and crack, smau.
warning(s): swearing, of course. and as always, i'll put it in every chap if there's something you need to look out for.
note: yes, blod-talicized for slowburn because this is already planned out three years ago (but for another idol) anyway !! i'm excited to share this, my ass had been wanting to post this,,,,,, i already have the ending i just really need to do from part eleven up to,,,, that. so here you go. I immediately fell in love with Peng Shepherd’s book, as it is SO different from what I usually read. Best of all, it blends mystery with fantasy, providing the best of both worlds. Mid-Year Challenge Updates
I've been participating in several reading challenges this year and since we're now halfway through the year I thought it might be fun to check in and see how my progress is going!
GoodReads Reading Challenge:
I have my yearly challenge goal set at 100 books and I've read 58 of those so far.
That means I am currently 8 books ahead of schedule. I initially set my goal at 50 books but I increased it once I passed that goal.
Buzzwords Reading Challenge:
I'm up-to-date on this challenge through June and I've picked out my July book. Here's the books I've read for the challenges to far and what I plan to read in July:
For January (There / Their / They're) I read And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
For February (Positive, happy words) I read Business or Pleasure by Rachel Lynn Solomon
For March (Character Names) I read Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett
For April (Nature words) I read Goddess of the River by Vaishnavi Patel
For May ("Every") I read Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson
For June (Repeating words) I read Someday, Someday by Emma Scott
For July (Measurement words) I plan to read A Short Walk Through a Wide World by Douglas Westerbeke
Book of the Month Challenge:
Book of the Month does a yearly challenge for members and I'm currently working my way through earning their badges.
Book Boss (Read 15 of BOTM's hardcovers or audiobooks): 7/15
Debut Darling (Read 5 debuts): 1/5
Write-up Wizard (Review 5 BOTM books): 7/5

im going to bed in a minute bc i'm sleepy tired but i am trying 2 figure out books i want to read for the next little bit. i'm reading kingdom of sweets right now and taking a break from the ojibwa dance drum bc kingdom of sweets is a very seasonal book and i want to get it read before christmas, and then i'll try and get back to the ojibwa dance drum after that. i want to do ink blood sister scribe i think as one of my first books in january and then at some point in february/march i want to read belleweather but other than that... we'll see what botm does for its boty selections and go from there in terms of doing polls for what to read next
#shay speaks#do any of you care? probably not but i need to put this into writing somewhere#fsr botm thinks my birthday is in december even tho it never asked for my birthday???#so i got two books this month#and bc i have gotten 12 boxes with them i get a free boty finalist book but they wont announce those for at least a week#so we'll see what i want from that list. i wont argue with free#but idk ink blood sister scribe feels like it would be a good winter book and thats gonna be why i want to read it come january#and belleweather i want to read before tourism season starts again so i can critique it from a historical perspective#but everything else... we'll see we'll see#i might go back to doing polls as a mix of botm and other books i own and need to read#and i might try reading 2 books at once one as a poll choice and one my own choice#idk idk we'll see we'll see

April Book of the Month Predictions
I love Book of the Month. I have found so many of my favorite books thanks to them and I genuinely look forward to choosing my book(s) at the beginning of each month.
Here are a few new releases that I think could be Book of the Month selections for April. These include the four books that I think fit the word scramble clues from their app!
Romance
Two of their four hints match two romance books coming out soon. The first is Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez. It's not surprising to know that this will be a pick since Jimenez just won Book of the Year. The second is How to End a Love Story by Yulin Kuang which sounds really emotional.
With two romances already being main picks (since answers to BOTM's clue are always main picks), any other romance picks will almost certainly be add-ons.
I, for one, am really hoping we get some more queer romance choices soon. Book of the Month hasn't had a queer romance as a main pick since December of 2022 and there hasn't been a queer romance as a new add-on option since October. Several exciting queer romances are coming this month, so I hope we get (at least) one as an option.
Here are a few LGBTQ+ romances I'd love to see as Book of the Month picks in April: The Prospects by K.T. Hoffman, Here We Go Again by Alison Cochrun, or Late Bloomer by Mazey Eddings.
Thrillers
None of the four app clues hint towards any thriller books, but Book of the Month almost always has (at least) one new thriller (even if it's just as an add-on). I think the most likely new April options are Daughter of Mine by Megan Miranda, Darling Girls by Sally Hepworth, or The Gathering by C. J. Tudor. All three of those would be repeat authors. For something a little different, I would love to see How to Solve Your Own Murder by Kristen Perrin as a selection!
Historical Fiction
One of the clues points towards a historical novel, a debut: All We Were Promised by Ashton Lattimor!
Sci-Fi / Fantasy / Romantasy
The most likely pick in this category is The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo. Bardugo's Ninth House and Hell Bent were popular Book of the Month picks. A Feather So Black by Lyra Selene is also an option. Book of the Month's recent romantasy picks have overlapped with Fairyloot's previous month's adult picks recently. This is the Fairloot Adult pick for March, so we'll see if there's overlap again.
Non-Fiction & Short Stories
The final clue points to a non-fiction novel: The Wives: A Memoir by Simone Gorrindo. Table for Two by Amor Towles, a short story collection is also possible. Towles has had several novels picked by Book of the Month in the past!
Are you excited about this month's Book of the Month possibilities? Is there something you really want to see as a pick?
