Teatro y TV: Trevor: The Musical (2022)

No muchos cortometrajes pueden presumir de un paso tan fructífero como el que disfrutó “Trevor” (1994). La aclamada obra de Peggy Rajski ganó el Oscar al Mejor Cortometraje de Acción, originó una ONG cuyo fin es ayudar a aquellos jóvenes LGBTQ que están considerando la idea del suicidio y, desde el 2017, fue adaptada al formato de comedia musical, que se trasladó al off Broadway en 2021 y, desde junio del 2022, en un proyecto que cualquier persona en el mundo puede ver en Disney+.

Gran idea y no sólo por la intención de presentar “Trevor: The Musical” al arbitrio público. Dan Collins es el creador de la música que se mezcla con tenas de Diana Ross mientras que Robin Abrams y Marc Bruni tomaron las decisiones escénicas, modelando una obra que le hace honor al cortometraje que le dio origen.  

La historia no difiere demasiado de éste: es 1981 y Trevor, un chico fascinado con Ross (que aparece en escena, interpretada por Yasmeen Sulieman) y el teatro musical (Holden Hagelbergerm, protagonista de la obra, cuyo trabajo no merece otro apelativo más que descomunal) desea preparar al galán del grupo, Pinky (Sammy Dell) para un concurso de talentos que se celebrará en la escuela. En el medio, está la relación con su amigo Walter (Aryan Simhadri), que desarrolla una peculiar tarea escolar que involucra un catálogo de modelos de lencería, semen y un microscopio; su pretendida Cathy (Alyssa Emily Marvin), que desea a toda costa un beso que nunca llegará; Frannie (Isabel A. Medina), la chica que sale con Pinky aunque en realidad éste desee a Mary (Echo Picone), y los muy desubicados padres del protagonista, interpretados por Jarrod Zimmerman y Sally Wilfert, Trevor, claro está, camina el clásico rumbo del autoconocimiento y la represión que acabará asomando la tragedia cuando su deseo secreto sea revelado al mundo.
