you know those polls that were going around, where you're supposed to pick whether story or gameplay is more important in a video game? and how the answers were basically 50/50? baffling to me.
i am of the firm belief that if you have chosen to make the medium of your narrative experience a video game, then there must be a reason for that choice, and failing to be engaging as a game experience is simultaneously a story failure as well. because in a game, the gameplay is an element of the narrative. the manner in which the player engages with the game is what constructs the story.
