e sottrargli qualsiasi gloria.”

Agustina de Aragón, Casta Álvarez and other heroines of the siege of Zaragoza
In 1808, the Spanish city of Zaragoza was besieged by the armies of Napoleon Bonaparte. The Peninsular war was raging as the Spanish people resisted the French occupation.
Women distinguished themselves in defense of their homes. One of them was Agustina Raimunda María Zaragoza Doménech (1786-1857), also known as Agustina de Aragón.
Defender
In 1803, she married Juan Roca Vilaseca, a corporal in the Spanish Artillery. Since her husband had been stationed in Zaragoza in 1808, Agustina was present when the French troops besieged the city.
Many of the Spanish defenders of the strategic Portillo Gate had been wounded or killed following the French assaults. The enemy was beginning to storm the city. Agustina, who had been carrying food and water to the soldiers, stepped into the breach, retrieved a still-burning wick from the hand of a fallen gunner, and fired the cannon at the advancing French soldiers. Her courage rallied the defenders who repelled the assailants, thus saving the gate.
The Spanish Commander in Zaragoza, José de Palafox, heard of her bravery and rewarded her. Her exploit also won her international fame. Lord Byron wrote, for instance, a poem in her honor.
Zaragoza’s other heroines
She wasn’t the only woman to take arms. Another was Casta Álvarez (1786-1846). Armed with a bayonet, she defended the Sancho Gate and was later awarded a pension by King Ferdinand VII.
Manuela Sancho (1783-1863) fought to defend the San José convent, riffle in hand. María de la Consolación Azlor, countess of Bureta, (1773-1814) organized a battery to repel a French assault on her home. The names of Benita Portales, Juliana Larena, and María Lostal are also remembered. Women also nursed the wounded and brought food and drink to the soldiers. María Agustín (1784-1831) was, for instance, wounded when bringing ammunition to the defenders.
This first siege ended on August 14, 1808, but the French returned to besiege the city on December 19, 1808. Agustina wanted to fight but had contracted typhus and could only watch from her sickbed as the city was taken. Captured by the French, she and her son were forced to march to the frontier among a column of prisoners. She would probably have died if an officer had not placed her on the back of a mule. Agustina made it to Puenta de la Reina where she escaped. Her son died shortly afterward.
Ensign
Agustina reached the nearest headquarters of the Spanish army. She was made an ensign and served with her unit in Seville. She later fought in the defense of Tortosa and the battle of Vitoria, though her participation in the latter is subject to doubt.
After the end of the war in 1814, Agustina followed her husband to various military posts. After he died in 1823, she remarried to a doctor. She died in Ceuta on 29 May 1857.

Edelgard's big speech against Rhea, the whole “if people support each other, they don't need gods” line, almost feels like it's mocking the player in hindsight.
For starters, people supporting each other. Edelgard ideals, the principles she's going to reform Fodlan around, amount to her belief that people need to learn not to rely on others. That relying on others causes them to become weak, like wet paper or Vegeta's ego, whereas by forcing them to rely on themselves the people will either become strong or die trying. And as Moon makes it, she'll blame the people if they do indeed die at the hands of her system, saying they're too accustomed to relying on others. While the English text makes it out that Edelgard's reforms work towards a “free and independent society,” the “free” part was something they added (and is contradicted by Hubert's endings). The way the original text says independent translates more as “self-reliant,” a society where people don't rely on others.
So by Edelgard's logic, the people of the society she makes would require “gods.” This is despite Edelgard's raging against the Goddess and her children, but remember. Edelgard is also accused of wanting to replace the Goddess with herself, in Hopes she's shown reviving the Southern Church preaching things that appeal to those who don't like the messages of the Church (and pisses Rhea off in the process), while the Lin/Bernie and Manuela/Hanneman endings in Flower reveal Edelgard restores the Church under imperial supervision.
Edelgard also wants to be called El.
We don't usually spell it like that, usually it's Elle. El, in fact, is an ancient Semitic word for god (lower-case g), as well as the name of the chief god of the Canaanites. In the S support with her, however, the player has no choice but to call her El.
Edelgard takes over Fodlan, the land Sothis created after the Agarthans wrecked the world, ousts the teachings of Sothis to replace it with her own ideals, invokes Divine Right of Kings symbolism in her ending by imitating Napoleon's coronation portrait complete with a version of France's Hand of Justice (though inverted), and wants to be called a word for god. The route also makes it clear that Ferdinand is not her equal, Petra is not her equal, and YOU are not her equal. Girl has a complete god complex going.
If mankind stands strong and supports each other, they don't need gods. But Edelgard takes away the ability to support each other, believing that will make people strong instead of creating a society where people stab each other in the back for power. She's also implied to present her beliefs as the teachings of the goddess in Hopes and after Flower, reshaping the Fodlan Sothis created in her image. Under her system, people will need a “god” to elevate them. They'll need Emperor Edelgard in order to give them power in exchange for serving her. Meanwhile, you killed everyone who opposed her like a complete zealot in order to create one nation under Edelgard.
You're the fundamentalist here, believing in Edelgard despite the heaps of contradictions. You make a world where people will continue to rely on their “goddess.” Meanwhile, the other endings either have Byleth rule Fodlan though admittedly still having the power of the Goddess, or Dimitri does with Byleth's support. Byleth loses that power in Flower, implied to be because you broke Sothis's heart when you killed Rhea.
But if people need gods in this world you created... there's the implication that Sothis will return once she makes a new body for herself. Hopes pretty much spells that out.

Find Out Your Ceresian Senator Name!
(made with love, the d20 gang put a lot of work into diversifying character names, & as I was doing my etymology post I noticed similarities but no clear formula so I thought I’d write one for funsies)
First Name: The first letter of the street you grew up on (if you didn’t grow up on a street feel free to use a town/city name, or a landmark!).
I included alternates for gender reasons - a/o means the name can end with either a or o depending on your preference, e.g. Emilio vs Emilia. You can probably also throw an -e at the end of some of them if (like me) you wanna be a bit nonbinary about it.
A - Aurelius (Adria, Andrea) B - Bianca (Bacchus, Basilla) C - Cara (Cassius, Camila/o) D - Dominic (Donatella/o, Daniela) E - Emanuel (Emanuela, Emilia/o,  Eduardo) F - Francisco (Fabrizia/o, Fiero) G - Giuseppe (Graciela, Gio) H - Hercules (Hero, Hermes) I - Ignazia/o (Imelda, Isabella) J - Jupiter (Jiovanni, Juno) K - Katarina (Kronos, Celeste) L - Lorenzo (Luca, Loretta) M - Marco (Messina, Manuela) N - Nunzio (Natalia, Nico) O - Oliverio (Ouranos, Roberta/o) P - Patrizia/o (Paula/o, Pallas) Q - Quirinus (Pietro, Ricarda/o) R - Rizzo (Rafaela/Rafael, Renata) S - Silvio (Sabina/e, Serafina/o) T - Titian (Tullia/o, Terra) U - Ulysses (Urania/Uranus, Rosetta) V - Valentina/o (Venus, Vesta, Vesuvio) W - Luigi (Mario, Rosalina) X - Xanto (Romeo, Diana, Apollo) Y - Ylenia (Saturn/Saturnus, Minerva) Z - Zappa (Mars, Melete, Diana)
Last name: The last letter of your favorite food
A - Bucatini B - Capellini C - Bavette D - Matriciani E - Pappardelle F - Scialatelli G - Spaghettini H - Tagliatelle I - Trenetti J - Vermicelli K - Anelli L - Cascatelli M - Castellane N - Cavatappi O - Farfalle P - Garganelli   Q - Passatelli R - Paccheri S - Rigatoni T - Strozzapretti U - Testaroli V - Cannelloni   W - Agnolini X - Cappaletti Y - Fagottini Z - Sacchettoni
Voila! Now just put “Senator” (or another Roman govt position if you want) in front of it. I’m Senator Andrea Trenetti!
I also did some optional funsies for those of us with dice we never get to use:
Roll 1d20

If it lands on a 1, you are straight up a loaf of bread. use the Bread Table under the cut

If it lands on a 2-10, you are a pasta dish. Use the last name chart for your first name, and use the Pasta Dish Table under the cut for your last
If you roll a nat 20, you are may choose b/w
a popular snack food. Use the Snack Table under the cut
.
you can also use the first name chart and use the snack table for your last name if you want
a Ceresian folk deity. not a senator anymore, but arguably funnier. Use the Deity Table under the cut
otherwise, use tables above as normal.

In The Ravening War, all of the senators also got “tribune” titles like “Tribune of Triscutia” - if you want one of those, you can either:
Use the last name table but use first letter of your favorite food
Use either the Bread, Pasta Dish, or Snack table under the cut
Bread Table
Roll 1d12 or use your birth month
1. Panettone (you have a little Candian on your mother’s side of the family) 2. Muffuletta 3. Pane rustico 4. Panino 5. Pita 6. Tortano 7. Baguette 8. Ciambella 9. Fugassa 10. Friselle 11. Crescentina 12. Boule
Pasta Dish Table
Roll 1d20 or how many mozzarella sticks do you think you could eat in one sitting? (if you can’t eat mozzarella sticks imagine carrot sticks instead)
1. Arrabiatta 2. Amatriciana 3. Bolognese 4. Capresi   5. Bottarga 6. Indiavolati 7. Siracusani 8. Scarpariello 9. Boscaiola 10. Fagioli 11. Lucchesi 12. di Mare 13. Napoletana 14. Puttanesca 15. Ragu   16. Sorrentina 17. Tartufo 18. Valtellina 19. Zucca 20. Cacio-pepe
Snack Table
Roll 1d6, or rate the last movie you saw from 0-5 stars (or 1-6 if you don’t want to do math)
Tostito(s)
if you like you can also use Fritos or Dorito(s)
Chex (you can add a last name that describes the kind of Chex if you want)
Pepperidge (like Pepperidge farms)
Ritz
Kellogg (you can add a last name that describes the kind of Kellogg’s food item if you want)
General Mills
you can forgo the “Senator” title if you so chose and just be “General Mills”
the ancient Roman govt Ceresia is based on had a lot of interplay between the military and the government so like. Generals still have govt. sway.
you could also just be “Senator Mills”
Deity Table
Roll 1d6 or tbh just pick which one you like they’re all fun
you are now known as Ben the Original, but you have never forgotten your past life as Uncle Ben.
you are Little Miss Sunbeam, a maiden goddess of light and happiness
you are the Triple God, the Holy Trinity, and your aspects are Snap, Crackle, and Pop
you are a Keebler elf, one of a large family of forest spirits hidden deep in the mountains on the border of Candia and Ceresia
you are Umaemon, an otherworldly cat-like being with unknowable powers and dual aspects of both cat and human.
you are the Pillsbury Doughboy.

E sì, lo so. La stanchezza sa essere un pensiero davvero egoista.

Carry You Home by onyxedskies: Rated G. Rodrigue mourning Glenn. Very sad and good if you're in the mood for something heavy. Well written.
