Kartik Aaryan answers to Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker's compliments of Chandu Champion: "These are moments I'll cherish"
Kartik Aaryan has been making headlines for his portrayal of Chandu in the film Chandu Champion, which is based on the story of Murlikant Petkar, India's first Paralympic gold medalist in freestyle swimming. Manu Bhaker, an Olympic medalist and star shooter, recently praised the actor highly.
Manu took to Instagram following her outstanding success in the Paris Olympics 2024, where she became the first Indian woman shooter to win a medal in the women's 10m air pistol event, to give her thoughts on Kartik's latest flick. Manu posted a photo of herself watching Chandu Champion on television and wrote an emotional remark, stating, "Finally, the Olympics are over, and I viewed #ChanduChampion as soon as I got home, and this film turned out to be much more relatable than I expected. Preparation, hardships, and failure, but never giving up. Hats off to @kartikaaryan for playing this part so well. As an athlete myself, I know it's not easy... Especially the preparation sequence. "You deserve a medal for this!!"
Kartik Aaryan was moved by Manu's remarks and reposted her post on his Instagram Story. He conveyed his appreciation with a meaningful note, stating, "Wow!!! Thank you, @bhakermanu. These are the moments I will always remember, when a true Champion like you praises our labor of love! #ChanduChampion. Love and appreciation for making all Indians proud." His reaction included a red heart and the Indian national flag emoji, expressing his joy and appreciation for the champion shooter.
About Chandu Champion. The film Chandu Champion, directed by Kabir Khan, portrays the inspiring and motivational story of Murlikant Petkar, a war hero and India's first Paralympic gold medalist. Kartik's performance has received widespread praise for its depth and sincerity, earning him honors from fans, critics, and, more recently, athletes like as Manu Bhaker.
What comes ahead for Kartik Aaryan? Kartik Aaryan just finished filming Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, directed by Anees Bazmee. The film, starring Triptii Dimri and Kartik, is planned to be released on Diwali 2024 and is widely anticipated by series lovers. Vidya Balan reprises her role as the legendary Manjulika, who has become synonymous with the Bhool Bhulaiyaa series.

[ad_1] Manu Bhaker in the Paris Olympics 2024 (PC: RevSportz) How important is an award? More so when it is the Khel Ratna – the highest sports award in the country? Clearly it is of significance. It is a vindication of what you have achieved and why you are the best in that particular year. Make no mistake, if anyone deserved the Khel Ratna in 2024 it is Manu Bhaker. No Indian has ever won two medals at the Olympics and it is a no brainer she was the best in Paris 2024. And remember, she was almost on course to win a third medal and lost out in a shootout. For her to not be nominated for the award is disappointing. The committee should have taken suo moto cognisance of the situation and just nominated her, putting an end to the controversy. It is not as if it hasn’t been done before and there is precedence. What this controversy does is it reduces the value of the award and also does disservice to whoever gets it. For example, if Harmanpreet Singh gets it, and may I say it is hugely deserved, the talk will still be about Manu. And that’s where the problem is. Harmanpreet wouldn’t be able to enjoy the award because the narrative has been set. It is one of controversy more than anything else, and that’s not what you want when it is about the Khel Ratna. Administrators should have done better and protected the sanctity of the award. Also, they should have kept in mind what a controversy might do and how such a narrative is unwelcome. For the Latest Sports News: Click Here pic.twitter.com/MPvf7uKJKM — Manu Bhaker (@realmanubhaker) December 24, 2024 I’d have also liked for Gukesh to be nominated. So what if the world championship was not over yet by the time of nominations. He had already won the candidates and in all fairness India’s best male achiever for 2024 is Gukesh. Yet again he could have been nominated by the committee, for you need to give the awards to the most deserving. Coming to Manu, yes it is hurtful and disappointing. Yes, she will feel every bit hard done by what has happened. But that’s where it should end. She did what she did because she wanted to be out there in Paris for India and win medals. Nothing compares to standing on an Olympic podium and no award can match that. That’s what she said in her Instagram post. All she should do is take it as a challenge and go one better in LA28. If she wins Gold, no awards committee can ever ignore her claim and that’s what should be the focus. Crying foul, Manu knows, will not make things better and will only stir the hornet’s nest. Manu is an athlete and the range is her temple. All she needs to do is get back and make a point with her pistol. Bureaucracy isn’t where she belongs and she can’t lose herself in the politics of red-tape. Also she isn’t the first or the last to fall victim to such administrative lapses. Dhyan Chand still doesn’t have a Bharat Ratna and one wonders why? In cricket, Sachin Tendulkar once told me that he was removed from captaincy without even being told. All he did was say to himself that you can take the captaincy away from me but you can’t do anything to my cricket. Thereafter he scored 25 more centuries and 10000 more runs. That’s the statement- he is the greatest to have ever played the sport. Manu should follow this example. She, by her own admission, is a Tendulkar fan and will do well to emulate her idol. She also has Abhinav Bindra to look up to. For him, he has no idea where all his medals are. “It was never about the medals. It was about becoming the best version of yourself,” said Abhinav. For Manu, the world is her oyster. The Khel Ratna nomination is a very minor glitch. New Delhi: Seeking to end all “speculations” after her name was not considered for the Khel Ratna Award, Paris Olympics double medallist shooter Manu Bhaker on Tuesday admitted to a possible lapse in her application for the country’s top sports award. Bhaker’s message on X came a day after the absence of her name among those recommended for the award led to a major furore. Paris Games double medallist Manu Bhaker. (EPA-EFE) The Union Sports Ministry then said on Monday that Bhaker’s name was not considered for the award because she had not submitted an application as per the government stipulation for the sports awards. Bhaker, 22, became the first athlete in post-Independence India to win two medals in an Olympics after she took bronze in the 10m air pistol women’s and mixed team competitions in Paris. Bhaker’s choice had seemed a formality, but only Harmanpreet Singh, skipper and drag-flicker of the India men’s hockey team, and Praveen Kumar, para high jump gold medallist at the Paris Paralympics who also took silver in Tokyo three years ago, have been recommended. The sports ministry and the 12-member awards committee were criticised, although a ministry official said: “this is not the final list, there is a process involved”. On Tuesday, Bhakar sought to put the issue to rest in her first comments on the issue. “With regards to ongoing issue for my nomination for the most prestigious Khel Ratna award, I would like to state that as an athlete, my role is to play and perform for my country. Awards and recognition keep me motivated but are not my goal. I believe there has been a lapse, maybe on my part while filing for the nomination which is being corrected. Irrespective of the award, I shall remain motivated to win more medals for my country. It is a request to everyone, please do not speculate on this matter,” Bhaker wrote. On Monday, the shooting federation (NRAI) wrote to Secretary-Sports, Sujata Chaturvedi, urging that the ministry consider Bhaker for Khel Ratna on “exceptional grounds”. Speaking to HT, NRAI president Kalikesh Singh Deo said: “We don’t even know if she applied or not, but if she did, I don’t think the committee had any reason to not consider her. If she didn’t apply, there’s nothing the committee could’ve done. We’re hopeful the ministry understands our point of view and gives her the award she so thoroughly deserves.” Bhaker’s coach Jaspal Rana minced no words in pinning the blame on the federation and the awards panel. “Do you think she needs to apply after all that she achieved this year?” he asked. “It is very demotivating for an athlete. You must remember that shooting is a mental sport and if the athlete is not in the right space, you can’t expect miracles.” It is learned that the ministry is likely to add Bhaker’s name to the final list after union sports minister Mansukh Mandaviya takes a call on the matter in a few days. “What’s the point of giving away the award after so much chaos? An award must be given, not demanded. All that’s happened is quite unsettling and insulting for an athlete. Even if she had missed the application, surely someone could have nudged her or the committee could have taken suo motu cognisance,” Rana argued. Meanwhile, Paralympics gold medallist archer Harvinder Singh alleged “discrimination” in sports awards. “Tokyo 2020 Paralympic gold medallists were awarded Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, but what about Paris 2024 Paralympic gold medallists? Same competition, same gold, same pride, why not same award? Singh wrote on X. His coach Jiwanjot Singh confirmed that Harvinder had applied for the top prize. “I think being a Paralympics gold medallist, he deserves a Khel Ratna, especially after he had applied for the same,” Jiwanjot told HT.

[ad_1] Joydeep Karmakar with son Adrian (left). Suruchi and Samrat Rana after winning air pistol mixed event at Nationals (PC: X) The depth in Indian shooting has come to the fore, again. At the ongoing Nationals being conducted by the National Rifle Association of India in New Delhi and Bhopal for pistol and rifle, results coming from fearless juniors is brilliant news. Sample this, one more girl from Jhajjar, Haryana has stormed the air pistol arena answering to the name of Suruchi. When this teenager, unheard of, did well in the air pistol main event, juniors and seniors, it was clear that she was on a mission. And on Saturday, she also won the mixed gold. Suruchi trains at the same basic academy in Jhajjar where Manu Bhaker started her career. Four medals for Suruchi in one event is brilliant. One should not jump to conclusions that the next champion has been born but what stands out as unique is Suruchi has handled the big stage well. The number of entries for pistol and rifle events is in the thousands. Air pistol and rifle events have become a rage where youngsters start training at a young age. The Khelo India programme saw Manu Bhaker make her first beginning before she did well at almost every international event. And at Paris 2024, she peaked, winning two bronze medals, and finished fourth in sports pistol. Sample the field which Suruchi has competed in. She was ready to shoot without any inhibition and did better than Rhythm Sangwan and Palak Guliya. Manu and Esha Singh did not compete in the Nationals. Suruchi has already notched up a basic good score which will come into the NRAI records when the qualification process for the 2026 Asian Games kicks in next year. There is still a bit of uncertainty as some changes are being proposed by ISSF, the world body. For the present, to do well in the Nationals is a massive achievement for Suruchi. “Anna, please write about such kids. They are fearless and ready to come out and shoot, minus any fear and face the Nationals. It shows the right attitude. I am sure this one big score Suruchi already has in the air pistol event will give her a head start,” says coach Rana. He has been tracking the Nationals and feels there is no dearth of talent. “There is a big change, today’s youngsters are not worried. They have picked up early and to grow further, they have the confidence. My suggestion is not to put pressure on them. Any fresh talent is good news and four medals is big,” said Rana. For the Latest Sports News: Click Here Indian Shooting (PC: NRAI) There was also a good result in the 25-metre sports pistol event last week in New Delhi when Riya Shirish from Pune won the gold medal in a packed field which also had some seasoned pros like Rahi Sarnobat. Riya defeated Simranpreet Brar in the final shoot-off and was oozing confidence. “It is a mental game and I am happy with the way I shot in the final,” said Riya. “The kind of raw scores in qualifying is exciting to watch. Shooting in India will grow and so many new National champions emerging is good. I did watch the sports pistol event and am happy there is depth,” added Rana. At the shooting ranges in Bhopal, where the rifle events are being held, Adrian Karmakar, son of Joydeep Karmakar did well to win the 3P gold in the junior section. Trained by his father, Adrian has been firing consistent scores for a while, training in Kolkata. “I only tell my son not to fear and worry about anything. There is some pressure being a second generation shooter. Adrian missed the senior final by one point, so he is on the right track,” Joydeep told RevSportz. He has been coaching for a long time now and feels there is plenty of depth in Indian shooting. “Happy to be doing my own stuff away from politics,” is Joydeep’s mantra. Coach Rana, who had started his career as a rifle shooter first, said the 3P is a technical event. “Adrian is a sweet kid and talented. He is focused and doing the right things. Give him time, he will mature further,” he noted.

New Delhi/ Mumbai: The sports ministry on Monday said that double Olympic medal-winning pistol shooter Manu Bhaker’s name was not considered for the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award because she had not applied for the India’s highest sporting honour, even as her family raised questions about the need for an application by the athlete in a year when her achievements were historic. Manu Bhaker had won two bronze medals at the Paris Olympics -- the women’s 10m air pistol and the mixed 10m air pistol event. (PTI) The sports ministry, however, added that the final list for the Khel Ratna has not yet been finalised, leaving the door open for Bhaker to be considered for the accolade. A 12-member awards committee stoked controversy after its list of recommendations for India’s highest sporting honour did not mention the double-medallist from the 2024 Paris Olympics. The recommendations for the Khel Ratna included Indian men’s hockey captain Harmanpreet Singh, who led the team to a bronze medal in Paris, and men’s high jump gold medallist (in the T64 class) at the Paralympics Praveen Kumar. “This is not the final list, there is a process involved,” a sports ministry official told HT. “The recommendations have to go through the sports minister before the list of awardees is finalised,” the official added. People in the ministry aware of the development said the awards committee goes by the protocol of discussing those names who have applied for the National Sports Awards and Bhaker’s application was not there. According to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports guidelines amended on October 24, 2024, “applications are being invited only online through a dedicated portal”. The guidelines further stated that eligible sportspersons “need to self-apply” through the online portal”. “If she had applied, there is no reason for us not to consider her,” said a member of the awards committee who did not wish to be named. Bhaker’s father, Ramkishan, meanwhile asserted that his daughter should not be required to apply for an award, especially after becoming the only athlete from Independent India to win two medals at the same edition of the Olympics. The 22-year-old had won bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event before pairing up with Sarabjot Singh to win a second bronze in the mixed 10m air pistol event. “I have been making sure that she applies for awards for the last four years, Khel Ratna and Padam Shri awards. Even this time, when she has won two Olympic medals, does she have to apply? The whole country knows what she has achieved,” Ramkishan told HT on Monday. “Why does she need to apply for the award? There are some 49 applications of Manu (for various awards) which are pending with the sports ministry. What about them?” Bhaker’s coach Jaspal Rana claimed the shooter was “disheartened” after being overlooked for the Khel Ratna. He said the National Rifle Association of India, the governing body of the sport in the country, should have taken the lead in the award application. “I don’t know whether she applied or not, but even if she didn’t, someone in the NRAI could’ve nudged her,” Rana told HT. “Manu had a very busy Olympic cycle and a few super busy months following her medals in Paris. Surely, there could have been a way to make sure her name reaches the committee.” The NRAI, however, made it clear that the matter of a government award is strictly between an athlete and the government. Nonetheless, the federation has written to the ministry on Monday to consider Bhaker for the award. “The federation had no role to play in her application,” NRAI president Kalikesh Singh Deo said. “The system is rightly designed to keep federations out of this process and ensure the athlete is in direct touch with the awards committee. We don’t even know if she applied or not, but if she did, I don’t think the committee had any reason to not consider her. If she didn’t apply, there’s nothing the committee could’ve done. Nobody deserves the award more than Manu. We’ve taken cognizance of media reports and written to the sports ministry today requesting them to take note of her performance at the Olympics and her overall stellar career.” In the past, the awards committee had the right to make considerations even if there was no application from at athlete. It is how Mohammed Shami was given the Arjuna Award last year despite the fast bowler not applying. Now, however, the awards committee member said, the government gave them a mandate to only consider athletes who had applied for the awards. In other words, Bhaker could not be selected by the committee if she had not sent in an application. The Khel Ratna, India’s highest sports award, comes with a medal and a cash prize of ₹25 lakh. Bhaker received the Arjuna Award, India’s second-highest sporting honour, in 2020.

Coach Jaspal Rana questions Sports Ministry, NRAI for ignoring Manu Bhaker’s credentials for Khel Ratna
New Delhi: Double Olympic medallist shooter Manu Bhaker’s coach Jaspal Rana Tuesday castigated the Sports Ministry, Sports Authority of India and the National Rifle Association of India, holding them responsible for “ignoring” his ward’s credentials for the Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award.
