Chasing the TC Turn, 4 of 4
Completing a series of posts chasing the the Traverse City Turn of the Great Lakes Central: here the train is seen south of Manton, Michigan, by two or three miles.
The former Grand Rapids and Indiana line, later Pennsylvania, looks really attractive here, curving back and forth a bit through the landscape of the northern lower peninsula.

Smokey Day, Part Two The Traverse City Turn of the Great Lakes Central got into town without me hearing it, but I later saw it preparing to leave town after a run to Amerhart, the lumber yard over by Williamsburg, Michigan. I then ran south down to where the former Grand Rapids and Indiana (Pennsy) crosses the Manistee River, between Walton Junction and Manton. It's not overcast today, but smoke from Canadian wildfires is mucking up the sky, the amount being stated as "unhealthy" levels. The EMD SD35 was built for the Norfolk & Western in 1965—I'm assuming it had a high short hood but was chopped. Later it was owned by the Montana Rail Link as the paint scheme shows. Follow the Blue Blaze
Getting to my rail shot yesterday I ran across this trail: the North Country Trail, with blue blazes.
I had no idea, but this trail runs through eight states. Here's some information about it in relation to Michigan...
Michigan hosts the most North Country Trail miles of all eight states. The NCNST crosses nearly the entire Upper Peninsula from east to west, allowing for almost 550 miles of trail use. The Trail then traverses the mighty Mackinac Bridge at the Straits of Mackinac and continues for another 600 miles to the Ohio state line. (source)

Traverse City Turn
This will conclude a series of post with Great Lakes Central's TC Turn. After hearing the train working in town, I was able to chase it south along the former Grand Rapids & Indiana, later the Pennsylvania.
The train is now on the main line in the small town of Manton, Michigan. I'm attracted to both the Post Office (from the fifties, perhaps), as well as the structure for grain.
I was losing light by this time—slight movement can be seen in the final image, much to my chagrin. Two images by Richard Koenig; taken August 26th 2021. (6 of 6)
