*catalyst: a person or thing that precipitates an event.
pairing: manjirou “mikey” sano x f!reader
a/n: i have no idea where this is supposed to take place in the canon timeline lol, i just want to write something angst for mikey and i find his character so fascinating.
warnings: kisaki lol, death.
You were the catalyst for everything.
Kisaki Tetta knew that now.
Months of carefully crafted plans repeatedly ruined; his everlasting plan to mold Mikey into the perfect leader for the gang he envisioned had failed right before his own eyes more times than he could count on one hand. Forced to watch as it all fell apart and he’d been made to look like a fool in front of those he demanded respect from enough to have Kisaki fuming with humiliation and anger.
The worst part? You didn’t even know it.
It wasn’t like you’d figured him out, or had any suspicions like he knew a few others did. You were none the wiser to Kisaki, and every time you had interacted with him, you’d been nothing but completely pleasant and warm. You, with your bright smile and twinkling eyes and that sweet voice of yours that could carry on for hours without fault. You were friendly, incredibly so, able to talk to anyone and everyone and never stumble over your words or wonder what to say. People gravitated towards you, and you let them.
Kisaki was just another face that you greeted occasionally, a member of your boyfriends organization that you always made sure to show respect to. You didn’t have a single idea of what darkness resided in Kisaki’s mind or the things he wanted to do, specifically to your boyfriend.
But you were warm and you were glowing, an ethereal presence amongst Mikey that constantly pulled him back in when he slipped just a little too far into the darkness. Mikey’s eyes shined when he was with you, even had a sparkle of life to them as he smiled at you, giddy and completely in love, and all it took was the mere mention of you, and Mikey would remind himself of who he was and that was that.
Mikey had lost more than he could process, but he still had you.
Kisaki knew that now, as he watched Mikey dote on you, a single poke on your nose that had you blushing as you wiped at the crumbs on the corner of your lips of the snack he’d given you. Mikey never shared with anyone – well, anyone but you. And Kisaki felt positively sick as he watched the two of you, a pure hatred that was so unfairly focused completely on you, a glint in his gaze as let his eyes wander across the reason for all of his failings.
You were the reason for everything, and Kisaki had every intention of changing that.
You were a piece of the puzzle that was no longer needed.
-
Fingers digging into Mikey’s jacket, you hold fast, feeling the wind whip through your hair, making your eyes sting and your heart race.
Mikey’s laughing, blissfully unaware of the deep fear coursing through your veins as you press your face into his back and shut your eyes. He’d told you this would be fun, and even if you’d been skeptical, you’d believed him. You know how Mikey loves going on rides and you always felt bad that you never go with him; so you’d mustered up your courage and pushed back your fear and agreed to go on one with him.
You were now severely regretting that fact.
If it had been anyone else, you would’ve screamed at them to stop. But you hold back your own terror for Mikey’s sake, trying to take pleasure in the feeling of being so close to him and ignore the way you constantly feel like you’re about to be taken by the wind and go flying off.
When Mikey finally stops, you accept his hand with shaky legs, gripping onto him tightly enough so that you don’t fall flat on your face.
“It wasn’t that bad, was it?” Mikey lightly laughs, taking in the paleness of your skin and the way you can barely stand.
“It was awful,” you huff, bracing yourself against the wall slightly away from him. “I’ve never been more scared before in my life.”
But Mikey just smiles; “I’d never let anything happen to you.”
And your eyes fall on him, stunned by his confession as your lips part and a soft blush falls across your cheeks. But still, despite your surprise, your answer comes with ease; “of course,” you nod, “I know.” Then, almost like an afterthought, you can’t help but pout. “Doesn’t make it any less scary though.”
He makes his way over to you, brushing back a strand of hair that had fallen in your face, letting his fingers run through your hair with a fond smile that is only ever reserved for you. You find yourself mesmerized with the way he stares at you, gaze so soft, so adoring that it takes your breath away every time you’re faced with it.
Only Mikey can ever make you feel this way; an indescribable warmth that flows through you and makes your insides feel like butterflies and your legs feel like jelly (even more than they already do). Mikey had a way about him, always has, for as long as you’ve known him, his charm is soft and gentle but it makes you a blushing mess every single time.
You’d do anything Mikey asked of you – that you’re sure of.
“Was it that scary?”
You concede at that, shoulders falling; “no,” you admit, unable to say anything else with the way he’s looking at you. “Just takes some getting used to.”
His face brightens then, a kid-like glow of excitement washing over his face. “You’ll go on a ride with me again then?”
If it had been anyone else, you would’ve said no; unable to deny the way your heart is still racing and you feel like throwing up.
But, this is Mikey.
“Of course.”
-
You were entirely too trusting.
Mikey had told you that a million times, that you shouldn’t be, exasperated at the way you trusted anyone's word and simply said yes to anything someone asked of you. It didn’t matter who and it didn’t matter what; if you were capable of helping, you would.
It’s why when Kisaki asks you to follow him, saying he wants your help for a surprise he’s working on for Mikey, you just smile and nod, letting him lead you away. You’re blissfully unaware of the dark, looming threat that peers over your shoulder. The smirk on Kisaki’s face is perceived as a smile, and you mimic one back to him, head tilted and eyes crinkled in warmth as you nod, not even questioning when Kisaki leads you into what looks like an abandoned building.
He must just want to keep the surprise secret, you figure.
And you continue to think nothing of it until there’s a smack against the back of your head, and your vision blurs, body wobbling as Kisaki’s name leaves your lips in a echoed gasp of a mixture of surprise and pain, collapsing on the ground with a resounding thud. Your vision continues to darken until it turns black completely, the last thing you’re able to register is Kisaki's looming figure over your own, that same smirk that suddenly looks more sinister than you remember it looking staring back at you.
-
You’re fourteen when Mikey kisses you for the first time.
You’re both young, stupid teenagers that barely know what commitment really means or what the weight of a relationship is supposed to promise. But you don’t really care either way. You’re completely smitten with Mikey, unable to tear yourself from his side, wanting to spend every waking moment with him, even if that involves simply following him around.
And Mikey feels the exact same.
It’s why he kisses you that day after school.
He can’t hide his feelings anymore. You erupt a fire in him that he can’t ignore, this itch to be closer, be more with you… When Mikey pulls you from class that day, tugging you all the way outside until he tucks you into a corner away from prying eyes, he doesn’t even say anything before his lips press against your own. And yet, there’s not even a moment of hesitation from you. The kiss is a shock, Mikey knows that, but when his lips press against your own, you’re responding with as much want as him.
The kiss is messy, sloppy and just what you’d imagine two fourteen year old's to kiss like.
It’s still the best kiss of your life though.
When Mikey pulls away, he’s breathless, chest rising and falling with every breath he inhales and you’re bright red, embarrassed but completely euphoric at the fact that Mikey had finally, finally kissed you.
You giggle when he meets your eyes and he grins wide.
It’s the first time you see that sparkle in his eyes you haven’t seen since his brother's death, a bit of life returning to his gaze as you set your hand on your cheek. Your touch is gentle, unsure at first, before you let yourself relax, petting his cheek with your thumb, unable to tear your eyes away from his own.
Mikey can’t either.
“I love you,” you admit, breathless.
And he says it back too, just as breathless. Just as smitten. “I love you too.”
You’re both fourteen. Young and dumb and teenagers.
And yet, you know you mean it when you tell him you love him.
You know he means it too.
-
You’re not returning his texts.
You never go more than a few hours without texting him back. But it’s been two days.
At first Mikey had tried to convince himself you were just busy – he remembered you saying you had a lot of work to catch up on and so he eases his mind with that; you’re just busy.
But when you’ve been busy in the past, it hasn't stopped you from texting him back. Even a simple “hey <3”.
Mikey starts to panic. Time starts to tick and the panic worsens, this weight pressing on his chest, making it hard for him to breathe. He can’t think straight, he can’t eat, can’t sleep, can’t do anything but worry about where you are. He wants to hold you, wants to have you close, kiss you… anything. He doesn’t care what, Mikey just needs you.
He cannot lose you.
It’s a fact he knows without even the slightest bit of doubt. Mikey perhaps understands himself better than most think he does – he’s not stupid enough to not realize the dark thoughts that course through his mind. He’s found himself slipping into them more than he can count, shrouded in darkness repeatedly, and the person that has always brought him back was you.
Always you.
Smiling at him, calling for him, hands on his cheeks as you kiss him so passionately, with love unlike he’s ever felt before.
After all he’s lost, all he’s suffered.., sure, he still has his friends… still had Toman. But through the darkness, you’re always on the other side of it, the light at the end of the tunnel, and Mikey knows without a doubt that you are what’s holding him together.
He cannot lose you.
A knock on his door pulls himself from his thoughts. His eyes snap to the door as it slowly opens, Draken’s head popping through.
Mikey straightens, shoulders tensing.
“We found her,” Draken says, “we know where she is.”
The fact that Draken doesn’t elaborate doesn’t escape Mikey, but he hardly cares. The mention of finding you is all that matters and he’s jumping to his feet before he even realizes, grabbing his jacket on the way; “where.” His voice is dark, sharp, demanding the answer right then and there.
He needs to get to you.
“An abandoned building just twenty minutes from here,” Draken explains, eyes never leaving Mikey. He continues to watch him, silent, until Mikey moves to step past him and then Draken’s hand falls on his shoulder, grip tight, halting his steps. “Mikey.”
His voice is low, thick.
Mikey hesitates, eyes turning to his friend, a glare set on his features; “what?”
“What happens if you find her there and she’s…” Draken doesn’t even want to say it. You’re his friend too. “What if she’s dead?”
“She’s not.”
And Mikey isn’t even sure if he believes the words. The fear is crawling up the back of his throat and he’s finding it hard to focus on anything other then this horrible feeling welling deep within him.
“We don’t know who took her, we don’t even know why.” Draken reminds, desperate for him to listen, for Mikey’s sake more than anything. “Mikey…”
“She’s alive,” Mikey says, eyes never turning away from Drakens. “I know it.”
-
Mikey knew from the moment he saw you, you were the one.
Tears pouring down your face, cheeks red, snot-nosed, your pretty pink blouse all mucked up with dirt and mud – and yet, you stand strong, tall, in front of the boys who’d kicked you down in the first place. You’re scared, shaking, but you don’t let it show in your face. Through the tears, your glare is harsh and your lips are set tight, in a straight line, and you don’t waver from your position.
Behind you, a kitten is curled up on the ground.
Mike doesn’t even really understand it. Doesn’t even realize he’s moved until he has. There’s four boys surrounding you, cornering you, moving to grab at you, pull at you, hurt you and despite knowing that, you don’t move. Your focus is wholly on the cat behind you, desperate to keep it safe, and Mikey likes the way you stand up even if you have no chance of winning.
Even if you’ve already lost.
Reminds him of someone he knows.
He knocks the four boys down with ease. Two of them go down before they even realize what’s happening, and even then the other two don’t manage to do much before they get a nasty kick to their faces, sending them flying and landing straight in the dirt. When they get up, it’s in fear and all four of them go running without even a single glance in your direction.
When it’s just the two of you, MIkey stares back at you only to see you staring at him with awe.
The tears have since dried on your cheeks, just a stained reminder, but you’re no longer sniffling or shaking. Instead, your eyes are glowing with admiration and your fists are clenched in front of you tightly in excitement.
“Can you teach me how to do that?”
Mikey blinks at you, that having been the last thing he expected.
But then, as the surprise fades, he finds himself laughing; “you wouldn’t be able to kick like me.” He says it in with a air of cockiness, hands falling on his hips as he stares back at you.
You pout then, clenching your fists at your side; “I so could!” You declare, “just because I’m a girl, doesn’t mean I can’t fight.”
And Mikey, oddly, believes you.
He doesn’t say anything in response, though, simply lets his gaze lower, to the cat behind you, and it takes you a moment, but slowly you follow his gaze, reminded of why you’d been there in the first place. Your entire demeanor changes then, face softening and body easing as you scoop the cat up in your arms. It doesn’t fight you, easing into the warmth of another, and you pet it softly, hushing it.
“Is it your cat?”
You turn back to Mikey at his question, shaking your head; “no. Just saw them kicking at her,” you explain with a frown. “It’s just a cat.” And it’s simple; as if that’s all the explanation you needed.
It is.
“Yeah,” Mikey shrugs, eyeing the nasty bruise on your cheek, “but you got hurt because of it.”
“I’d rather get hurt than let someone who can’t defend themselves get hurt.” you huff, as if that’s obvious. But the annoyance from your face fades as you turn back to him, beaming brightly as you meet his eyes. “Besides, you came to save me anyways.”
You send him a toothy grin, and Mikey blinks, face falling with bafflement as he stares back at you.
He... saved you?
“My hero,” you grin, without wavering confidence. You say it like you’ve known Mikey for years, as if this wasn’t the first the two of you have spoken, like you have no doubt in your mind that Mikey will continue to do just that -- save you.
Then you add, a toothy grin on your lips, “until I can learn to fight like you.”
To be honest, Mikey finds he likes being your hero.
-
He finds you too late.
You’ve bled out, stabbed twice. Your hands are tied behind your back, your mouth gagged, dried tears streaming from your eyes, staining your cheeks. Your skin is pale, eyes lifeless, and even as Mikey pulls you into his arms, freeing your arms, you don’t move. You don’t say anything.
You're dead.
He’d been too late.
Draken who stands behind him doesn’t say anything. Nor does the rest of Toman. His friends stay eerily silent, some crying, some in shock, but no one moves. No one says a single thing.
Mikey feels like he’s floating. He’s staring at you, he knows you're dead, can feel your body growing cold in his arms, but he finds himself unable to say anything. When his hands move to remove your gag, there’s a moment where everything freezes.
A long, terrifying moment where nothing happens.
And then he feels his eyes watering and his vision blurring when, as seconds pass, you still don’t move.
Mikey knows you’re dead, somewhere deep in the back of his mind. Of course he does. But half of him still expects you to move, to say something, to smile at him, with those eyes of yours he loves; a stupid, naïve part of him that can’t accept that you are dead. Because, you can’t be. Any moment now, you’d move, smile at him, say his name and it’d all be okay.
You don’t, of course, you’re completely still in his arms, limp and unmoving and gone.
Just gone.
He’s sobbing. Mikey doesn’t even realize it.
He’s screaming your name, screaming for you.
Mikey doesn’t hear himself.
Your hero.
What a joke.
And as his world darkens, and everything slips away from him, he’s unaware of the glinting eyes that stare at his back.
Everything happened according to plan. Finally.

.
"It's a little troublesome, yeah." Emma nods, holding the bump of her stomach as you give her a hand down the few stairs outside the hospital, "Thanks, doctor." she smiles at you.
You return the smile, checking the time once more before ringing up to tell the head manager of your hospital to switch to the night shift doctors' team already and request them to reach within an hour.
The hospital you own always has a lot of work- you're the top neurologist and second top gynecologist in all of Japan, all your top brass doctor friends also work at your hospital.
Emma has been coming to you since the beginning of her pregnancy. Her husband Ryuguji is always with her, today is the only day she's come to you alone- Ryuguji is away in another city for work she tells you.
A radiantly shiny black car stops right in front of the two of you. Emma bows to take leave, but before she can open the door and sit in, the window of the passengers' seat at the back rolls down.
There's a man sitting inside in what you assume to be a black overcoat decorated with designs and embroidery made of pure gold. He wears sunglasses, his head is turned not towards Emma but you.
"This is my brother." Emma introduces him, "Sano Manjirou."
You don't need the introduction- you remember who he is well enough. His appearance is just the same too, only, he seems to have matured. The face, the lips, the jawline- they're all the same, just more defined.
There's an itch inside you to see his eyes- the pretty black eyes that always looked at you so tenderly and warmly back at school.
It's been long since you've felt such a buzz in your heart. Every single strand of hair on your body is standing straight as a shower of goosebumps travel all across.
You'd tried hard to look for him after returning to Japan after your time building a career abroad, but no matter how hard you tried, you never found him. You'd thought you'd never see him again, but here we was- the Mikey you've been aching to meet for a decade now.
He takes his sunglasses off- the pretty black eyes are just the same. They stare at you with the same tenderness, but there's too much more going on in them to let any warmth through.
"Emma, sit inside."
His voice is matured, it would obviously have changed. You'd expected that, but still, the tone of his words is just as tender and soft as ever.
"How have you been, Mikey-" there's too much longing in your heart to let the words hold in anymore, but the moment you let them out, Mikey's window rolls back up.
Within a second, the car takes off.
You feel like you've been slapped to the face. This bothers you only momentarily, however, there's much more you have in your head to care of.
Sano Manjirou came into your life for a second time, yet the moment he sees you, he drives away like he doesn't even know you. You still don't forget that little moment of his eyes meeting yours- of course he remembers you.
... Is he... still mad or hurt from back then... ?
Your body droops unwillingly, expressions shattering alongside.
All these years, you've hoped to clear some things with him. The last interaction you had with him was nothing but pain, and sadly, he probably thinks it was a pain to only him. You're the one who knows it was a pain to the both of you.
There's no one you can blame for how things turned out in the past- everyone was right in their own place, no one could be declared wrong completely.
It's just as they say it is- life has plans of it's own. Nothing happens earlier than it is meant to happen.
Back then, it seemed that not even nature in itself could help the turnout of events. You didn't want to leave Japan, but there was nothing you could do, your parents were posted outside and they couldn't leave you behind.
It was the last day of the second year of high school. You, Mikey and Baji had studied together ever since middle school then.
You remember the moment all too well. He was sitting beside you on the terrace of school, it was a fresh and windy day. There was a low chatter all around because of the students downstairs during lunch.
Mikey let his head fall on your shoulder. He began to pour the sweet words he'd always have for you, you smiled and played along with them. Replying to all with just as cheeky comment and statements.
He was just beginning, and you were already at the limit of how open you could be with a guy- your parents wanted you to focus on studies and become someone successful, and that meant no distractions in the form of boys.
Mikey cupped your cheeks that day, you still remember the sparks throughout your body that messed your brain up. The words he said after that still ring in your head often- "I love you, (Name)," followed shortly by a "you'll be my girlfriend, right?".
For a moment, you'd been in heaven back then, but reality has it's ways of dragging one all the way down to hell.
You'd forgotten to tell him something important earlier, and then he'd proposed you out of nowhere, so telling him the thing was becoming too hard.
"I'm sorry..." is all that escaped your lips, but Mikey said he knows you're scared and he assured he'd never ever let your parents find out about the two of you.
Memories often record emotions more than the actual events. You remember being torn but managing to tell him in a tone as broken as hope itself that you were supposed to leave three days from then- that your parents were leaving for another country, and you had no other option other than going with them.
There was nothing but shock in his eyes for the rest of the break. It was at the school's entrance that he'd come to you again later, just minutes after school had ended.
Mikey begged you to stay. You begged him to not make it harder.
He left, eventually, with nothing but "okay, I hope you're happy" being the last words. Even the words you wished to convey to him couldn't leave your lips.
You wished you'd let those words be the first to greet him if you ever met him again, but it just happened the way it always did- whenever you'd be with him, you'd forget the important things and just enjoy the nonsense of life with him.
You'd forgotten now too, to let those words out of your mouth And you know they'd suffocate you if you don't let them out.
But he's appeared in your life again. He's a brother to one of your patients, so there is the slightest bit of hope in your heart for you to meet him again. And maybe, one day, you'd be able to smile with him just like you used to.

.
Emma has been staring at Mikey all throughout dinner, Mitsuya and his wife cannot concentrate on anything other than this.
Luckily, Baji is coddling their daughter, there's no one to disturb their hawk-like gaze on Emma. Draken has been looking between them and his pregnant wife every few minutes now. He's itching to know what's going on too.
Mikey is concentrated on the two Kawata kids in his lap- the twins had married twins and now each had a son with the same genetic composition; biological twins. Smiley's two year old is trying to nibble on Mikey's hand while Angry's just rubs his soft hair against Mikey's stomach.
"Mikey..." Emma can't take the suspense anymore. Everyone at the table pauses to listen to her, she's the pregnant lady of the bunch after all, "What happened earlier, in front of the hospital?"
Draken's eyebrows crinkle and he turns over to Mikey with a confused gaze. Baji is staring at him too, one hand holding Mitsuya's three year old daughter in place and the other putting a spoon of mashed potatoes in her mouth.
"What happened?" Mikey barely flinches at the question, he's still busy playing with the twin babies as his food gets cold in front of him.
"I mean, how come my doctor knew you? She even knew you're called Mikey which is weird considering it's been hardly an year since she returned to Japan and she doesn't yet know about Toman. And how come you didn't reply?"
"A lot of women know Mikey-kun." Chifuyu stuffs his mouth, "That wouldn't be very surprising. He's become so much more popular here in Tokyo now that Toman's all over Japan."
"She said asked him how he had been," Emma tells him, "that obviously means Mikey knew her before. And also, he looked at her weird."
"Stalker?" Mitsuya asks, then pauses, "Wait, is she a threat?"
Draken's eyes narrow, "Is she a threat, Mikey? Would Emma be hurt because of her or anything?"
"We could always send Yuzuha to handle her." Baji stuff his mouth, "Nothing too worrisome about it. Don't bother too much about it, Draken, there's nothing a random doctor chick can do to Emma."
"(L/N)-chan is not a threat." Emma frowns, but her expressions change to surprise as Baji chokes.
Everyone stares at him punching his chest, coughing while his eyes focus on Mikey, "(L/N) (Name)? Her?"
"Yeah." Mikey just looks away, "Her."
A silence rings across the table. Everyone looks between the both of them, waiting for some or the other kind of explanation.
"Want me to tell them?" Baji actually asks Mikey, it makes the others itch to know now, "It would be best if you tell on your own, it's not my story to tell after all."
Mikey just gets up, "I don't care, she's nobody." but he knows Baji gets the idea to tell, and he knows once everyone knows, they'll do something or the other about it.
The thing Mikey doesn't know is whether he wants to see you ever again or not. You've grown, you've matured.
He knew a funny, foul-minded girl years ago, she was the one he'd liked. The woman he saw today was not her- he's still sure you're just as foul-minded and humorous when it comes down to it, but it's different.
Your eyes hadn't been as bright back then, your jaw hadn't been as defined. The flame burning behind you was just a spark back then- you've grown. You've become a woman. A proper woman.
He can hear Baji begin in the background. Mikey wants to get out before the others grab him down.
.
"So, (L/N) (Name) was this girl in our class in high school." Baji tells everyone, "She was the goody-two-shoes on face- her parents wanted her to be that sorta kid, but she had the wildest mind underneath."
Everyone is hooked instantly.
"Basically, Mikey was friends with her, he liked her, confessed to her, got rejected by her, never met her again after the rejection, but for some reason, he never got over her."
There's a long silence before Draken and Mitsuya stand aggressively in their chairs, "Still not over her?"
Baji grins, "Never will be. He was totally knocked into her back then, tunnel-vision sorta thing you know. He'd keep on smiling at nothing when she wasn't around."
"And I didn't even know?" Draken can't believe it.
"You'd do the same for Emma back then." Baji points out, "It was the both of you sitting together like that- like idiots. Chifuyu remembers it, don't you?" Chifuyu nods and confirms the same, saying he never realized it would have been over a girl though.
"So," Mitsuya's wife stares at the door from which Mikey has just exited, "potential wife?"
Baji shrugs, "Totally depends on how he takes it. You have her phone number, Emma?"
.

.
"I want them delivered by the weekend." Mikey speaks into the phone, his eyes lazily scanning the empty road. It's one in the morning, there's hardly a soul walking outside.
A car suddenly stops in front of a gate, Mikey identifies it as that of Baji's house. Baji hurries out, all prettied up and as he opens the car door, the lights inside turn on to reveal another prettied up person- you.
A deep frown etches over Mikey's face, he becomes oblivious to whatever the person over the phone is saying.
Baji and you half hug inside the car before you smile and start driving away. Mikey unknowingly starts his bike- he'd told Baji about you being back in the city only a week ago and the guy had already hit on you?
Mikey doubts Baji would do something of the sort considering the history he's had with you but Baji is Baji, there's no telling what goes through his head.
He rides after them all the way to one of Toman's fancy restaurant. By the look of it, Baji must have chosen the venue. He takes you inside while talking nonstop about something.
"Aren't they chatty now." Mikey knows he shouldn't be bothered, it's been over a decade since high school already. There's no point chasing behind the ghosts from his memories.
He knows he's no one to stop you from going out with Baji, or do the opposite- he shouldn't feel for you anymore. He's no one to control your or Baji's actions.
In any other scenario, he'd have let Baji take the lead in this- he'd have given up on the inside like he used to back during school, but things are different in this scenario.
The only thing Mikey feels towards Baji at the moment is pure annoyance, that, mixed with betrayal. Even if he couldn't end up with you, Mikey had still liked you in the past. As a friend, Baji shouldn't have made a move on you.
Mikey feels himself walking up to a rooftop, he knows Baji would have taken you there to dine and see the scenery. A hand runs through his hair to fix it after the bike ride, Mikey adjusts his clothes the slightest bit, then walks out into the floor.
Baiji is sitting with you at a corner table, it's the one with the best view. On him entering and all the people around bowing down to their feet, you both look up at him.
"You actually came.." you stand up, eyes wide and twinkling.
Mikey pauses, then turns to Baji, who winks at him with a grin.
"What do you mean "actually came"? I did tell you he's gonna come." Baji turns over to you, "Come on, Mikey, you're already late to our mini reunion."
"You're on house arrest." Mikey's eyes narrow dangerously at Baji as he realizes what the man is up to, "No even stepping out."
"Oh my," Baji turns towards you with wide eyes, "doesn't that mean I should be at home at the moment? See you some other time, (Name)-chan, I wouldn't be able to join you and Mikey today."
Mikey's jaw almost drops. Baji says his goodbyes to you and walks over to him.
"You bastard." Mikey whispers, "The hell are you even doing?"
"Setting up a date for my friend?" Baji smiles, "You'd never have the spine to ask her out again, right? She did you pretty dirty the last time, and you still have a picture of her in your room so-"
"What?" embarrassment rises up Mikey's cheeks, "I don't."
"Go lie to someone else." Baji makes a face at him, "Mikey, you know why she rejected you years ago, it wasn't exactly that she didn't like you. You're already lucky to have someone you loved back in your life. Back when I told the others, Kokonoi wouldn't stop saying he wanted to be in your place."
Mikey's lips twitch.
"You're lucky as hell she hasn't died, or isn't in a relationship, or in fact, married." Baji says, "And she suddenly appears out of nowhere to be your own sister's doctor, what do you make out of this."
Mikey makes a face and looks away, his hands folded at his chest.
"And don't tell me you're not eager," a grin makes it's way to Baji's face, "Toman coat on, a white shirt with the top three buttons loose, designer watches, you're totally here to make an impression."
"I was already like this when I was coming." Mikey argues, but then Baji asks him to close the buttons and Mikey doesn't comply. Baji says that proves his point.
"Alright then," Baji turns around towards you and waves, "see ya."
There's silence following his departure. For some time, Mikey just stand on his place with a frown. When he does exhale deeply and walk over to your table, he doesn't even bother looking up at you.
"Are... you still mad at me?" you don't understand why that's the first question you ask him, it's almost as if you intentionally want to make the conversation awkward.
"No." there's nothing but sarcasm in his voice as Mikey seats himself lazily on the chair, one arm dangling over the frame, "Why would I be mad? There's nothing to be mad at."
You frown and sit down too, eyes assessing the expressions he's making. There's a mountain of nostalgia washing you out.
"You're still the same, Mikey." the words just fall out of your mouth. Mikey doesn't looked fazed at all.
He eyes you from head to toe, the frown still etched over his face and hands still folded at his chest in the bossiest manner, "You've changed quite a lot, haven't you, (L/N)," you flinch at him using your last name, "from being all mean to being all nice on the face."
"I was always nice to you." you point out, "It's... I couldn't do anything about it, Mikey. I know you know I liked you too."
"Sure." he rolls his eyes and looks away, his brain focused on calming the pace his heart has picked up. There's an unusual spark running down his body.
It's obvious- you're the only girl he's ever liked, of course he's excited and nervous to talk to you after a decade. He tries to deny himself of both emotions but they start to overpower him the moment you've started talking.
"Mikey." you frown, "If I was in your place I'd be sad too, I won't deny that. I know I don't have the right to ask you of this, but please, forgive me."
"I'll have to either way, no?" his gaze turns towards you, "Once you and Baji start dating, and then get married, I'll have to see your face around all the time anyways."
You blink.
"I didn't even remember him."
Mikey pauses, "What?"
"Yeah, he called. He was like- heyy, what's up, how have you been, I'm Baji, and I didn't even know what Baji I'd ever known. Then he mentioned he was the other friend I had besides you and then I remembered."
Mikey doesn't like at all that he feels relieved in some ways. He stares at you, lips curved into a small pout and eyes narrowed into yours, "You're a bitch, (Name)."
He notices your shoulder slump in relief, making the low cut of your dress fall the slightest down to reveal much more than he has ever expected. For a moment, he's in awe.
"Thanks." you look up at him, "Just... thank you so much for forgiving me. I'm so sorry I couldn't do anything back then, the only thing I wanted to say was that I love you too but it just... didn't end that way."
"Mhm?" Mikey can't help the tingling rising up his cheeks now, "What's happened happened. But yeah, just know that I don't like you that way anymore. It's been over a decade and I've definitely met hotter women than you."
A smile rises to your face.
"Hotter with an "e-r", so I am at least hot?"
"No."
"But you just said it-"
"No." he cuts you off and averts his gaze to the Tokyo scenery outside. There's a red hue over his face matching yours.
"You're still just the same, Mikey." something melts like butter in your heart. You'd feared he'd have become a different person, but he's still the sweet boy you'd known back at school.
"You've changed." he doesn't look at you, "You used to be pretty flat back then."
You blink, "What?"
"Nice boobs."
"Mikey." all blood rushes to your face, arms covering your chest, "What the hell? That's what you're gonna say after meeting me after a decade?"
"You're the one who said I'm just the same, (Name)," he quickly turns towards you, pleased at your reactions but red on the words he's let out, "why, can you not handle my honesty anymore?"
Your mouth hangs.
"Honesty my foot, Mikey. When have you ever been honest?"
"Always." takes off his coat and throws it over the frame of the chair, "And stop acting like it's a big deal, you've been staring at my chest ever since I got here."
"You're not covering it on purpose." your hands make way to your face now, it's burning red and your heart is already racing against Mikey's. It feels exactly like it did back when you both had been younger.
"You're eyeing it on purpose." Mikey points out, "If you don't want to see, close your eyes."
"If I close my eyes, you're just gonna stare at my chest."
"Of course I am. And not your chest, I'll stare at your boobs."
You let your head fall onto the table as you handle your embarrassment, and calm the fire ignited all over your body. Mikey only looks away towards the view of the city.
"You're just the same too, (Name)." there's a smile on his face, you look up at him as his mouth opens again, "Other than the boobs, but okay."
"Oh come on, Mikey!" your hands rush to cover your mouth, "Say another word and I'm gonna start talking about your body too."
Mikey stares at you with a blushing smirk on his face, then breaks open the remaining of the buttons of his shirt. He takes the shirt off and throws it to the side, "Go on, I'm all ears."
Your mouth hangs, eyes now shamelessly roaming around the view in front. You can't blame yourself- anyone would've drooled what lies in front. Mikey's torso seems to be sculptured by the Gods themselves.
"Actually, lets sit here." he gets up and walks to another table much closer to the roof boundary and fitted with the softest cushions to form a small cubical. Mikey pushes the table outside, it hardly takes him any effort.
He then sits on the cushions, legs slightly parted, torso in complete view, eyes focused into yours and runs a hand through his hair, "Go on, go on, (Name), or do you wish me to strike a pose or two?"
The one thing Mikey has probably undermined about you is whether you're just as straightforward as you'd been back during your teenage years or not.
The both of you'd be shameless when with each other back in the day- he probably assumes you'd be nervous and more reserved now that you're an adult.
Oh, poor poor him.
Are you shy? Yes. Embarrassed? Yes. Blushing like an idiot? Yes. But above them all, you're shameless- it's like he's just said, you're just the same too.
If he wants the fire burning, you're putting in the fuel and not the water.
"Take off your pants too."
Mikey freezes in his place for the fraction of a second. He realizes he's not going to win the little game he's playing- you'd keep on demanding more and he wouldn't get the reaction he's looking for.
"Why should I?" he raises his eyebrow, "I don't see you taking off your dress."
"Then why did you take off your shirt to begin with?" you pat your cheeks to get the red down, nosebleed begging to happen because of all unholy thoughts running in your head, "You meet me after a decade and what you want to do is strip?"
"You meet me after a decade and what you want to see me do is strip?" he fires back at you.
"Yes, why not." you get up and drag a chair all the way in front of him, "Put up a show for me."
"I'm the one who's supposed to be mad." Mikey reminds you, "Dare you get cheeky with me now. You'll be the one putting the show up."
.
"Things kinda look heated there, Baji-san." Chifuyu stares from behind the plants, "They're arguing."
"Let them be." Baji is examining papers with one leg over the other, "They're opening up after a decade and neither is the type to keep it inside, they're gonna go all out. From what I remember of what they were like back in the day, things should be more than just heated."
"Ah," Chifuyu makes a face, "they're making out now."
"See?"
"Ohhh, Mikey-kun's touching her chest now. She's slapping his hand away and... pulling his hair?"
Baji blinks, "Too much detail, Chifuyu. Stop now."
"Baji-san." Chifuyu gets up, "Please order all workers here to leave."
Baji stares back at him, a greedy grin rising to his face, "You're not telling me... "
"N-No.." a blush rises up Chifuyu's face, "I mean, there's a chance... Neither looks like they're backing down and things are getting kinda... really hot."
"Oh, oooh. Of course." Baji coughs, "You mean them." he calls a waiter over and tells them to empty the floor, that not a single person should be visible.
The waiter nods and hurries to get the order fulfilled. Once everyone's gone, Chifuyu peeks back at the scene, "He's just got her on his lap now, and he's feeding her."
"Mhm?" Baji is busy eyeing his prey for the night. Chifuyu doesn't realize at all.
"Now Mikey-kun is... he looks like he's gonna feed her.... something else... if you understand... I mean, she's sitting on the ground now."
"Is this something else tasty?" Baji runs a hand through his hair, Chifuyu turns around and blushes as Baji licks his lips, "Come, let me feed you too."

"I still haven't thought of a name yet." Emma stares at her four month old baby, "Ken can't think of anything cool either. What do you suggest, Mikey?"
Mikey shrugs, his eyes focused at the document he's reading, "Ask your doctor. She's the one who pulled the baby out after all."
"Jeez, it's almost been a year since you both have started talking again, at least don't go calling her doctor in front everyone. She has a name." Emma makes a face at him.
Mikey only glances at her for the fraction of a second before looking away.
"Good point though." Ken says, "Ask the doctor, she's the one who pulled him out after all."
"She's been off work recently. The last time I talked to her she said her body was changing. She was feeling nauseous and vomiting and all." Emma puts a spoon of soup in her mouth.
"Sounds like pregnancy to me." Baji is coddling Mitsuya's daughter again, "You wouldn't have a hand in that Mikey, would you?"
Mikey puts the document down and gets up to leave while everyone is left in a state of pure shock at the realization.
"How far long is she?" Chifuyu is the only person who knew other than Baji.
"Three months now." Mikey has already reached the exit of the hall.
"When are you gonna get married?"
Mikey turn around, "Next week. You're all invited."

Anime i've Watched
Tokyo Revengers: Tenjiku-hen:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/26db0e352bd1f41cbb5a7e31f0d09afa/0a1155288293a7e8-2d/s250x250_c1/ba3f735635aa9e36dcf62adcf3317a338a7c4c5e.jpg)
Synopsis: After succeeding in their winter conflict against Taiju Shiba and his Black Dragons, the Tokyo Manji Gang absorbs their group's remaining members. Due to his heroic courage and indomitable spirit, Takemichi Hanagaki should have accomplished his goal of defeating the tragic fate awaiting his girlfriend, Hinata Tachibana.
In reality, Takemichi's troubles are far from over. Although Takemichi's actions have exposed Tetta Kisaki's treachery, the conniving schemer has found power elsewhere: Tenjiku, a dangerous gang led by the enigmatic Izana Kurokawa. Izana sets his sights on Manjirou "Mikey" Sano, pursuing a vicious interest in the Tokyo Manji Gang's aloof leader.
In the future, Takemichi discovers that the machinations of Izana and Kisaki led to Mikey's moral ruin—a downfall that directly results in Hinata's death. Unfortunately, a terrible loss robs Takemichi of his time-leaping ability, stranding him in the past with one final chance to rescue everyone he loves.
[Written by MAL Rewrite]
Status: Completed
My Rating: 8/10
Finished airing in 2023 with 13 episodes.
My usual issues with this series continue making it impossible to give it a rating any higher than 8/10 but Tokyo Revengers: Tenjiku-hen was my favourite season of this series yet. It was engaging and well paced with excellent character interactions and relationships that really managed to tug at my heart strings.
The art/ animation was hit and miss much of the time. One of my favourite screw ups being a continuity error in a later episode where they showed Koko all beat up in the previous episode and fresh faced during a shot in the next before switching back to beat up.
Also, this season had quite possibly one of my all time favourite ending themes. Didn't skip a single one.
Even knowing how the series ends the twists and turns this season were well executed and impactful. If you're a fan of the series I imagine you'll give this one a chance. The series as whole isn't really one i'd highly recommend but i'll certainly watch any seasons to come!

Toman Takemichi's older brother
Pt 3
Here is finally part 3. I focused a bit more on Mikey and Reader building their sibling relationship. Next part will have Draken and Emma!
Here is part 1
here is part 2
No Tw besides the errors I might have left.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Days flew by quicker than you could ever realize. In a blink, most of the hospitalized kids were out and, as promised, you drove them back home. The reason you also didn't see time pass was that you tried to deal with memories you wished to never remember. Yet, here you were, drowning in them. In the pain of seeing cops, knowing something went terribly wrong if none of your friends came. Learning only three members of your division barely survived, with only a handful left of the others who were in no better condition, left you in shock. And today, your little brother was in your shoes. Takemichi watched his friend bleed out, and die in the ambulance next to him, only to have the paramedics reanimate him. A traumatic experience you failed to protect him from, failed to prepare for.
Not to forget poor Mikey. The boy hides his pain like a champion, fooling even you until you found him crying all by himself in an empty corridor. You felt his pain like your own. How many times were you the strong one, the shoulder on which everyone could find support? But no one ever did the same.
The boy was a young leader, trying to act older than he was and no one saw his pain and struggles. Feared his darkest side, followed him without a question.
He was too much like you.
So, without surprise, you ended up taking Manjirou home with you. For the past few days, Mikey stayed by your side, barely leaving it. The others found it funny, calling you Draken 2.0 since you basically filled the same role. But you did not see it the same way. You simply were an emotional support buddy.
Being by Mikey's side this long also gave you a VIP place in the gang. You saw every little interaction, and how the young leader managed his gang. It wasn't disastrous, but a part of you didn't like what you were seeing.
At first, you thought his closest friends - his division's captains - would be his best support system. How wrong were you! Your personal experience screamed in alarm.
Everything was built on sand.
If Mikey fell, they would all go down with him. Meaning, that if the worse was to happen if the kid lost control of his anger or made terrible mistakes, they would not try to stop him. They would shut up and follow him in his descent to hell.
It both horrified you and angered you.
Friends were not there to just "go with the flow" they should be there for you. Division Captains were not meant to just follow blindly, they were there to stop and question their President when he went out of his way or made bad decisions. But the Manji gang was built around Mikey in such a way that no one ever saw anything wrong, or tried to do anything against it.
It didn't feel right.
And as you sat in a corner, staring at Mikey and the other, you wondered if anyone else could see the false smile and empty eyes. Today wasn't a good day for the blond and no one noticed. Except for Takemichi who gave you a side look each time Mikey's smile didn't reach his eyes.
It was a question of time before Sano Manjirou crack and no one was doing anything.
- "Hey Mikey, do you have anything planned today?" You asked, the second you saw the dark eyes turn darker after one of the captains said a bad joke. All eyes fell on you, worried, only Manjirou seemed curious. "Because I could teach you kids a few old tricks. Y'all could learn a few things from that old man here!"
- "And what could you teach us, fossil man?" Asked a boy you recognize as Angry or something like that.
- "Well, the Fossil man here used to be a right-hand and first division captain. And my division was half your little gang kid." Your smile grew into a smirk as they started at you in surprise. "So, what do you say Mikey?"
The teen stared back at you, most likely wondering what you had in mind, before smiling at you.
- "Let's see what you can do Y/n nii-chan!" He exclaimed, happy
If you almost choke, you showed nothing unlike everyone else who either choked or gasped.
A few minutes later, you faced Mikey out of the dojo. Both of you took off your shirt, the cold autumn breeze playing with your hair.
- "Okay, first I need to see what you can do Mikey. So go as wild as you want, I won't break" you gave a wink he didn't return
- "I wouldn't be so sure Y/n-Kun..." Everyone laughed
- "Well, what are you waiting to prove it?" Your provocation worked for Mikey's gaze turned slightly darker. Yes, the boy needed to let it go. "So come at me boy and show me why they call you the Invincible Mikey."
This time, the blond simply sprinted at you. His speed was remarkable, and so was his flexibility as he tried to give you his signature kick. But you blocked it, closing your hand on his ankle in an iron grip. The next second, your forearm hit him down there and as he bends in pain, you finished him with your knee against his forehead.
You heard all the captains gasping behind you as Mikey fell to the ground. Ignoring them, you kneeled next to him. With a gentle hand, you chased his blond hair from his face.
- "Mikey it's okay. Let it go. I can take it kiddo and you need it. Forget them, focus on me, and don't hold back. Let me be your punching bag." You whispered as you petted his head.
- "I don't want to hurt you" he whispered back, face blank.
- "I promise you, you won't." You smiled and took his small hand in yours. "Trust me, I can keep up."
You both ignored the whispers - Did Mikey just go down this easily? No way Takemitchy's brother just beat Mikey this fast! - as you helped Mikey back on his feet.
- "Alright, one more time and seriously. I ain't playing Love tap kid." You smiled avoiding a new kick, then another, but blocked the third. That one did sting. "That's more like it!"
Over and over, Mikey attacked you restlessly, getting more aggressive with each punch or kick you blocked and avoided. In the end, two black holes replaced Mikey's eyes, sending a shiver down your spine. What the hell did this kid go through? What happened to leave him this angry? Maybe you should contact your friend therapist and get an appointment for him?
As much as you played defensive during the fight, you also threw some good hits. Each time you saw an opening, which wasn't often, you would point them by attacking suddenly and viciously. Now, Mikey's kicks became weaker as you hit his kneecap and hip just right. It must be painful to him to even put any weight on it.
And the fight went on like this without any of you two know how long. The only indication of time was the sweat covering your body and the sweet burn of sore muscles and bruises. And both your breath becoming panting and short.
In the end, you got Mikey down by again grabbing his ankle and pulling suddenly, resulting in the teen falling on his back and not getting back on his feet. Letting go of Mikey's ankle, you also laid down next to him.
- "Okay... I'm impressed kiddo." You panted turning your head to look at him. "You have my respect, Mikey." And yes he did! You didn't know a lot of thugs or others gangs members who could rival your stamina or strength. But a fifteen years old just did.
- "Thank you!" Smiled Mikey and you knew he didn't thank you only for the compliment.
Before could say anything else, a shadow fell on your chest and hug you tightly. Blond hair blocked your sight as you heard the familiar sound of your brother crying. Laughing lightly, you hugged your little brother back, patting his back.
- "It's alright Michi. I'm fine!" You kissed his hair, closing your eyes. Why was your brother so dramatic sometime?
- "Are you two really fine?" Asked Chifuyu
- "Yeah, just give us 5 minutes." Replied Mikey, his voice more tired than you imagined. "Anyway, we've been sparing for how long?"
- "Two hours! Two hours and none seemed to hear or see us!" Cried Takemichi, holding you tighter. "I didn't like seeing you like that aniki. I didn't recognize you and you were ignoring me!"
Your heart clenched painfully in your chest hearing the despair in his voice. Two hours. You could barely believe it! How did both of you keep it up for so long? In a way, you were happy because Mikey definitely needed to let it out, but you were also culpabilized about worrying your brother.
With a sigh, you slowly sat, letting Takemichi take place on your lap. Your brother was shaking like a terrified puppy and silent tears kept rolling on his cheeks. You gently chased them away with your thumb.
- "C'mon Michi, stop crying. I'm fine, we both are. It was just a little sparring and we didn't see time pass. It's nothing to cry for." As an only response, Takemichi hid his face under your chin, and you just rolled your eyes. "Damn cry baby." You looked at Mikey who sat too and started at you two. There was something in his eyes, like jealousy. So you did the only thing a brother would; you included him in the hug too. "C'mere, I didn't hurt you, right?"
- "You wish Y/n-Kun" he answered after a second of surprise.
You busted out laughing.
- "Okay, enough fun for today. Draken is getting out this evening, we should prepare something to celebrate it. No alcohol boys! He will be medicated and it won't mix well. C'mon Michi, Mikey; let's go groceries shopping and throw him a party."
Both boys' eyes lighted up and the next second they were pulling you toward your car. Smiling, you grabbed Mikey's hand tighter. If no one, besides Draken, wanted to have his back then you would. You would be there for him, hopefully preventing him to fall where no one could reach him.
Mikey looked back at you and offered you his most beautiful smile and you knew... You knew you would protect him like your own little brother.
「Make a wish, Mikey! 」
:: A scenario where Mikey celebrates his birthday with the best persons in his life.
» with Toman founding members, Shinichiro Sano, Emma Sano (ft. Grandpa Sano)
《Content Warning - Canon divergent - AU, third POV, Comfort to Hurt, just characters interacting with each other, family fluff, platonic relationship, little angst 》
【 notes - This is supposedly a fic for Mikey's birthday (obviously) but I felt sick after I did his birthday art. Alongside that, this is also my first scenario in this account for Tokyo Revengers! I hope you like it. Anyways, Belated happy birthday, Mikey!】
The candle flickers under the dim light as if it whispers secrecy. The thunder roars outside with the howling wind— all within the night’s deepest stay. There he paid no mind, consciousness in the realm of dreams, hugging his favorite blanket and—
“Mikey!” He jolted awake.
Mikey rubbed his eyes, still in a floating headspace. Another raging knock on his door accompanied by a panicked female voice. “Mikey! Open up!”
He groaned, forcing his body out of his bed. What could be the matter this time? Was it important enough to ruin his peaceful slumber?
“What?” He responded, laziness and annoyance laced in his voice as soon as he opened the door. Standing before him is his sister, Emma Sano, holding a candle with her. That made Mikey look around. There he noticed that the halls of their house were already near to pitch black, only being flash by the lightning that fleets from time to time. “No power?”
Emma nodded. Mikey inquired again, scratching his head. “Where’s brother?”
“Downstairs, he asked me to call for you.”
“Is there something wrong?”
No reply. Emma just turned to her heel, walking ahead. It left Mikey with no choice but to follow without thinking of anything. Thunders again are screaming in a distance, followed by the ruffling of leaves, dancing under the graceful drizzles from the sky where the moon refuses to bear appearance.
Mikey inhaled. Emma stopped by the kitchen, extending her arm for her brother to take the candle she’s holding. The lad raised a brow on her, rubbing his face as if doing so provides his head some clarity. Emma said, “Take it.”
“Why? You have two hands.”
“Just take it!”
Mikey is still pulling his brain cells together, he is sure there’s something off yet he couldn’t bring his words out of his lungs to ask. Therefore, he did what he was asked to take—
Just as his fingers wrapped around the item, Emma hurried and blew the candle herself.
“Huh—“
A confetti popped.
“Happy birthday, Mikey!!”
The lights switched on. And before Mikey could even realize, the greeting was a mixture of voices, all yelling at his face.
They belong to his friends who are just in front of him with their dining table in between.
Tokyo Manji Gang founding members.
The five of them are present, all in their cute Kigurumi. They were all smiling at him from ear to ear.
“What the fuck are you wearing?”
They snickered as Draken answered. “Stop being a piece of shit on your birthday, Mikey. Emma insisted we wear this one.”
Speaking of which, Mikey gazed at his side, losing sight of Emma that was no longer where she used to be. He looked around, eyes finally darting on two figures that were approaching them.
It was Emma and Shinichiro, also in their cute animal onesies. Followed by their grandfather who wears the same! He was watching them, arms crossed and eyes in a concave curve.
Manjiro Sano couldn’t help but smile widely.
“This is unfair. Why don’t I get to have my own Kigurumi?” He whined.
“You’ll get yours later!” Mitsuya said in his calm, soothing voice. “This surprise was Emma’s idea.”
“Besides, it’s better to celebrate your birthday with toman’s founding members first.” Pah chin added. “Takemichi and the others will come by tomorrow.”
Mikey gazed at their wall clock.
Ah. He almost forgot.
It is indeed his birthday. August 20.
“Blow the cake, Mikey!” Kazutora brought a funny-looking cake in the shape of dorayaki. It was a mess, the icing wasn’t placed too smoothly. He placed the cake on the table before defending himself. “Baji and I did that in their house. We did our best, okay!?”
Even Mitsuya covered his mouth to prevent himself from snickering. Baji bumped his shoulders to him. “Hey don’t be like that!”
“Well, there was an attempt,” Mitsuya replied.
Mikey didn’t say anything. His eyes are on the food as if it flashes him the memories of his past.
Two years ago, Kazutora and Baji broke into Shinichiro's motorbike shop in an attempt to steal a bike that was supposed to be his in the first place. The same day, two years ago when Kazutora nearly put an end to Shinichiro's life in the same motorbike shop due to panic and in order to protect his friend, Baji.
It turns out that Shinichiro was fast on his reflexes when Baji screamed Kazutora’s name, catching the strong whip of bolt cutter in his hand that left the said body part to be injured. The same time two years ago where they got scolded by Mikey’s brother and they both couldn’t stop apologizing— especially Kazutora who trembled and bathed in sweat.
And now here they are, offering him a cake they baked themselves instead.
The most important individuals in his life stand here before him.
His heart feels full.
“Oi, why are you tearing up, Mikey?” Baji asked, smirking. “Don’t tell me you’re too touched?”
“Shut up.”
“Oh, wait we forgot the flag, sorry.” They laughed as Kazutora pierced a small flag on the center of the cake with a small candle.
“These kids said they’d be having a sleepover, but I don’t think they’d even wink the entire night,” Shinichiro commented, making his way towards the group. “Quick, Manjirou. Make a wish.”
Mikey stared at the cake for a while, losing in the train of his thoughts.
Is there even something he could wish for?
He inhaled, taking a grasp of the overwhelming feeling in his chest. These people are definitely the best. He closed his eyes.
I wish we could stay like this forever.
Mikey blew the candle off.
And then it all went black.
The candle no longer flickers under the dim light as if it whispers secrecy. The thunder roars outside with the howling wind— all within the night’s deepest stay. There he paid no mind, consciousness still in the realm of dreams—
“Mikey!” He kept his eyes open.
He blinked, deep, black, eyes barely shutting close god knows how long. Mind still in a floating headspace he wished not to end. Another raging knock on his door— “Mikey, open up!”
No, it wasn’t Emma.
There wasn’t Emma at all. There no longer is Emma anymore.
Not even his friends in cute onesies telling him he will also have his own are present. There’s no Pah chin, no Draken, no Mitsuya— neither Baji and Kazutora are there.
No Shinichiro Sano is around.
It was just all a wave of delusion Mikey formulated in his head.
Eleven years ago, his brother was accidentally murdered by his friend, Kazutora. Pah chin went to jail. Baji sacrificed himself just for him and Kazutora. Emma, including Izana whom he later knew to be his brother, died the same night.
Now there he sits, in front of a small cupcake with a candle in the center. The fog of imagination he used to fill his heart, now vanishing into the thin air, leaving him empty.
The candle didn’t have any light. It was dead, just like how he feels inside. It’s his birthday today, and yet every second of his moment felt nothing new, still harrowing on how things have turned out— on how he turned out that he had to do actions like this.
“Quick, Manjirou. Make a wish.”
“Happy birthday, Mikey!!”
What’s the point of celebrating his birthday again?
Tokyo Revengers – 02 – Done Running
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/86c26c7dc568679d82c427e067cb853c/7f2430ce75a14885-0f/s540x810/a6c9fde5959f4bc91aba632e8bc71ab97da4d75d.jpg)
MPD Sergeant Tachibana Naoto has been busy since Takemichi told him the day and manner of his and Hinata’s deaths. At first Takemichi think the kid has gone off the deep end, until he remembers that Naoto is only here because he can, in fact, travel back in time. If he’s a Hinata-saving, gang-stopping time agent, Naoto takes up the mantle of his operator, briefing him on what actions should be taken once he returns to the past.
Naoto’s first task is simple: try to cut off the head of the Tokyo Manji Gang in the past before its the big deal it is in the present. That means Takemichi needs to make contact with its two founders—Sano Manjirou and Kisaki Tetta—and ensure they never meet.
As for how he’ll get back to the past, that’s solved pretty quickly: he just has to shake hands with Naoto again and he’s back in his middle school body, just in time to take a knockout punch to the face. Honestly, the “science” of his time travelling is unimportant, so I’m glad Revengers doesn’t dwell on it.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ef7579c40e6a97c66bdf70e941bca600/7f2430ce75a14885-25/s540x810/e66856891a613c65e652e66e5c311056ee860b1d.jpg)
Unfortunately, the meat grinder doesn’t end with that single punch. Older delinquents like Kiyomasa and his henchmen had money riding on their “slave” putting up more than a fight, so they punish him by beating him again. Takemichi then makes things worse for himself by mentioning the two names Naoto said he had to meet. Kiyomasa takes a wooden bat, beats him bloody, and threatens to kill him if those names come out of his mouth again.
Having suffered three brutal beatdowns in less than a day, part of me wonders exactly what kind of high-strength alloy Takemichi’s bones are made of…but then this is a shounen series, and as such carries with it a heightened sense of reality with an appropriate suspension of disbelief.
More to the point, Takemichi is emotionally beaten, and all he wants to do now is run back to the present. His life there might suck, but it doesn’t involve the regular beatings of his tortured youth. He goes to the Tachibana residence so he can shake hands with Naoto and end this charade…but Hinata greets him instead.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3f90b356031f607b15bbc52d700ea688/7f2430ce75a14885-6a/s540x810/d5dfb2649be5d3fa7be84e3572c2946c73c3fb7d.jpg)
Their exchange goes pretty much the way it did the other day, with her scolding him for fighting (not understanding that it’s the last thing he wants to do), but this time she laments not being a boy, because she’s sure she’d be stronger than him. In fact, since she knows karate, she probably is stronger than him, regardless of gender.
Knowing she’d go to bat for him soothes Takemichi’s bruised heart, and he thrusts his fist out promising to protect her, he accidentally blurts out the shortened form of her first name—Hina—causing them both to blush. Hinata tells him to call her that from now on, and insists that she’ll be the one to protect him.
Considering how Takemichi’s interaction with Naoto saved the guy’s life and set him on the path of law enforcement, part of me hopes these new exchanges with Hinata he never had in his first go-around may similarly influence Hinata’s actions and choices. If he can just stay with her, protect her, and let her protect him, maybe her death can be prevented.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a367c5754432d9d458e1915d35858e6d/7f2430ce75a14885-82/s540x810/036a023257c1affb454ed331d401be6c381c0db4.jpg)
But for now, Takemichi still has to at least try to meet the founding members of the Tokan Gang, and after meeting with Hinata, he no longer wants to run; he wants to fight with everything he has, even if it’s not much. He’s further inspired to action when he watches his friends offer emotional support to Takuya, whom Kiyomasa has chosen to fight next despite (or maybe because of) his frail constitution.
When he first arrived in the past, Takamichi thought his pals were as pathetic and lame as he was when he first saw that bright hair in the mirror. But now he sees he was lucky to have such good friends, whose bonds never broke no matter how much the older kids stomped on them.
Takamichi interrupts the conspicuously in-the-open fight club match (where are the cops? I guess there are lookouts) before Takuya has to fight, and challenges Kiyomasa himself to a fight, billing it a “king vs. slave” match. Crying and running has gotten him nowhere but a shitty life and a dead ex-first-and-only girlfriend. He’s done with both. He has to be: for his sake, his friends’ sakes, and for Hina’s sake.
Hayashi Yuu Interview
Original article: Yahoo!
Over 70 million copies of Tokyo Revengers (manga) have sold so far, and the 2nd season of its anime version is currently airing in Japan.
An unofficial translation of Shuukan The Television's interview with Hayashi Yuu, the voice actor for Sano Manjirou (Mikey). Note that since the interview concerns the upcoming Tokyo Revengers: Seiya Kessen-hen, this may contain some spoilers for the storyline up until then.
── Here we have Mikey's voice actor dressed in tokkoufuku (long biker gang jacket, in this case the Toman uniform) for this special collaboration with Shuukan The Television. As this interview's held prior to the airing of the new season, how are you feeling about it?
The release of Seiya Kessen-hen is just around the corner, and I'm filling up with various emotions. Gratefulness, for instance of the rapidly increasing popularity of the series, which also means more opportunities for me to appear in photoshoots and events. I also feel like I'm very used to wearing this long jacket. Putting the jacket on and naturally feeling myself brace up, that too.
── Like the feeling of taking up Mikey's aura when putting it on?
Yeah. Personally being viewed like I'm one of the gang isn't that bad (laugh), but on top of carrying him as his voice, I also get the feeling of eagerly wanting to respond to requests! Then again one of the common requests I get asked for is Mikey's high kick, and unfortunately my legs can't go any higher than about half the angle of his (laugh).
── Mikey's physical ability is just too great, right?
Right! While Mikey can lift his legs pretty much vertically, in my case I've got to start with some stretching exercises first, otherwise I can't do it (laugh). And when Mikey does it, there's the pose with his jacket fluttering from his shoulders. The other characters' jackets are short, while he as the leader is the only one with a longer jacket so you can see how imposing he looks from his silhouette. Getting to indulge in this feeling of superiority kind of feels like a perk (laugh).
── Talking about the feeling of specialness, maybe that could be the reason for Mikey's popularity.
I've seen Twitter accounts with Mikey as their profile icons, and I've had people become my fans ever since the anime started. Even though the series' themes involve biker gangs that disturb the public order, I've actually seen primary school-aged kids watch it too.
Even friends from my hometown that I haven't interacted with in a long time approached me with, 'Hey, I watched Tokyo Revengers! All the best!' I've been getting that kind of messages more often, leading to further interactions that I'm very thankful for!
── You can feel the impact of the anime series' influence on your surrounding too, right?
I'm sure that 2023 too will be a year of more Tokyo Revengers. On top of this interview, there's also the ongoing stamp rally, and the upcoming real escape game 'Tokyo Manjikai Daikousou kara no Dasshutsu' in January. Not only events, we can also see the coactive spread of Tokyo Revengers-related visuals filling up the streets due to the new Seiya Kessen-hen series.
── Even those who weren't aware of the existence of Tokyo Revengers can now get to know about it.
Right. I think it brings in those who have been following the manga, those who learnt of the series from the anime, and among them those who got interested from participating in the events. There are various avenues that you can 'pick up' the series from, which seem to have factored into how influential it has become.
── Mikey is 'charismatic', 'cool', 'kiddy', a character with multifaceted appealing points. Even through this interview I can see the hard work put into it as a voice actor, so conversely is there any trait that is consistent?
Actually not really (laugh). Since the traits keep flip flopping after all, we can instead consider the possibility that maybe it's the inconsistency that is consistent. Breaking Mikey's character down in my own way, even if there's no answer that I can give from it, I guess all I can do is to sincerely try to face the character.
The part that I'm most frustrated about is probably the same as what's frustrating for both the director and sound director too. But rather than settling myself in my own ways, I think I should work with everyone to figure out the optimal solution together, where possible.
── From your view, what do you think of the atmosphere of the recording sessions? It's been said to be pretty full of encouragement, according to Shin Yuuki who voiced Hanagaki Takemichi and Karino Sho who voiced Matsuno Chifuyu.
Shin-kun got praised so much anyway! (laugh) He was perfect, it's as if Takemichi really existed there and then rather than as a performance. I should be stricter on him as my junior from the same agency so he doesn't become too smug! ...well, I'm actually still pretty lenient on him (laugh). From time to time I would tell him, 'Don't get carried away!' but I guess it's just my personal frustration (laugh).
── You still feel frustrations in your career?
It's not only towards Shin-kun. No matter if they're a senior or a junior, if there's an actor performing brilliantly around me I respect them, but at the same time it bugs me out a bit! At least in my case, my feelings are on the lines of, 'Though our roles differ, I should also produce this level of quality!' That kind of competitive feeling in me habitually pops up.
── It seems that you as Mikey also get plenty of praises from fellow staff and actors.
Well, better not praise me too much (laugh). Ah, but in the sound director Iida Satoki's interview, he seemed to have said that I've 'got the grasp of being Mikey so (he) could trust that there'll be no problem with the performance plans' (laugh). I was truly happy about that.
I did feel a bit hesitant up until the Bloody Halloween segment even as I was standing on the recording spot, but if it's as Iida said in his interview, I think my performance didn't fail expectations so I'm happy. That's why I seriously read fellow staff's interviews (laugh).
To be frank, until the role was firmly set there had been a lot of concerning parts, so I'm really thankful to the various staff members for letting us retake the scenes. There were moments where I felt like 'there's no point to keep retaking this', but fault-finding isn't going to fix things without action. At the risk of sounding like a priestly proverbial, 'it's a blessing to be able to receive critiques'. I hope that the newer generations that tend to shy away from critiques will also feel this way!
── The ending of Bloody Halloween had been a sensational topic. With Seiya Kessen-hen as its continuation, we want to know about Mikey's actions too.
About Mikey, let's start with the part where Baji died. His mental state became fragile right... through his relations with fellow members surrounding him, I wonder how is this going to go.
── The loss of Baji, it had a really great impact on Mikey.
Yes. In the atmosphere during the recording session too. While it usually would be chill, on that day there was instead a distinctly tense atmosphere. From when Baji got done in, to Mikey's sudden change, the scene where he lost control left a strong impression on me as a voice actor.
Though I have had 34 years of experience in the acting world, it was recently that I started to realise, it's like I entered an enigmatic mode of heightened concentration towards my performance. It's probably something like an athlete's 'zone' of focus.
I was able to hear the voices around me, but the words that were spoken eluded me in my brink of focus as I linked to the character. It's like I got into some kind of monomania. The scene where Mikey went out of control basically went like that.
── As you got into the 'zone', was it like a so-called one-shot, a smooth take without needing any retakes?
Above handling it in Japanese, expressing that kind of state should have been difficult, but it might've been because I was honing my concentration in the task, it was indeed just a single take at one go! Man, having mentioned it up until this point, it would've been awkward if I didn't remember it (laugh).
My performance as Mikey has boosted me, which for me is like the culmination of my acting life. Having joined Gekidan Himawari when I was 5 years old, I developed the 'bratty act' from being casted as kid characters, and with the recent opportunities I've had to act as characters that exhibit leadership qualities, both sides are contained in the characteristics of Mikey. It was by fully drawing out these parts in me that I could tackle this challenge. I think I am a really blessed person for being able to be in that situation.
── In the recording sessions of Tokyo Revengers, was there any actor with interesting approaches to their character portrayal?
It felt like many of the actors were synchronised with their characters. For example, Karino's friendliness and cuteness was entirely like Chifuyu. On the service-oriented spirit, you can also get a glimpse of the reliable Chifuyu-like aspect of him during events.
Shin-kun too, though his acting was good he still seemed modestly-mannered like Takemichi (laugh). But like Takemichi, I think that there is an unseen side of him too. It's a good aspect!
On the other hand, there were also those with personality gaps from their characters. Talking about Seiya Kessen-hen, Sugita Tomokazu's Shiba Taiju is remarkable. Taiju's unnerving vibe was truly amplified in Sugita's performance. It wasn't just simple violence, but you can feel that it was in the realm of maniacal violence, and with that I was personally in awe of Sugita.
── We're all anticipating Taiju's part in Seiya Kessen-hen.
Also, in my opinion Mitsuya is worth keeping an eye on. When you watch Seiya Kessen-hen, I think you'll definitely fall for Mitsuya! First of all, he's part of a biker gang with an overwhelmingly terrifying emblem, but then he's also the captain of his school's handicraft club too. Not only the captain thing, there is also a scene where he can be seen getting told off by a junior, like he's completely blended in with regular school life... it's like he has moments of being off-guard, so to speak (laugh). In Seiya Kessen-hen, there will be scenes where Mitsuya's humanity shines, and it's really admirable!
── I can already feel the love for Mitsuya from your dedicated speech (laugh).
'It's better not to be a person who's too perfect,' might be a saying, but from a male gaze the too-perfect Mitsuya just seems so admirable! And he's voiced by Matsuoka (Yoshitsugu) right? I've been able to act alongside Matsuoka-kun in various scenes, and his acting's just so outstandingly and consistently good it's frustrating. The range of his acting roles is extremely wide, as such he just seems perfect! (laugh)
Also not to forget, the protagonist Takemichi's pretty cool too. The other characters appear extraordinarily cool, but you'll see that Takemichi too will have his rising share of coolness in Seiya Kessen-hen. Even though he's not really strong, his earnestness in risking his own life is so cool. I've unintentionally pent up these feelings for so long as there had been so many evocative moments... Well, but if you ask me which character's my foremost favourite, it's definitely Mitsuya though (laugh).
--- What do you think of Mikey?
Mikey is someone I definitely don't want to get involved with! (laugh) Of course, I get that he has his charismatic appeal, 'but is it really good to mingle with this kind of guy?' is also a thought that has crossed my mind-- someone who can in a blink of an eye leap from his friends' side to take down enemies in an intense brawl.
He's someone who at first glance seems to be unassuming, but that he hides extremely sharp fangs underneath is an appealing part of him I suppose. And the gap in character between him 'switching on and off' is probably a factor in his charisma.
Objectively looking at the character, he's really a messed up dude though (laugh). I don't know why but I just see it that way.
── That's just the thing. It seems to line up with the dangerous appeal of being in a former biker gang.
If I'm just looking at him I get it, but there's still the feel of not wanting to hang out with him (laugh). Biker gangs used to be common around me long ago, so the 'yankee' genre of manga felt familiar for me. The era has significantly changed, you don't really see much of those kind of people these days.
The interesting aspect of Tokyo Revengers is that using the theme of 'timeslipping' it's possible to weave between eras to naturally bring back and rekindle a point in yankee culture. The amalgamation of these two themes is really a creative genius of Wakui-sensei, but how is Takemichi returning to the past going to change the future? It's this point that's simply fascinating!
On top of that, in returning to the past, the awesome aspects of each character are depicted altogether as the epitome of fervent friendship, so it's really tear-inducing. It's a really moving series, so I'm really delighted that one person could make such a series that really connects with many people.
──────
If there are mistakes or better ways to phrase certain parts you can reach out and message me if you'd like to.
(RIP I'm sorry Takemichi I kept misreading your name as martial arts)
Part 4🍦
Before you get the chance to formally introduce yourself to this strange boy, Manjirou hauls you forward and walks the both of you down the block. Anxiety churns in your guts the further away from school you get. The boy starts telling Manjirou something, but you can't keep up because your mind is reeling.
"Where are we going?" you ask, interrupting their conversation.
Manjirou wraps his arm tighter around you. "Getting ice cream," he answers.
You don't want to get ice cream. You want to go back to school.
You keep walking despite yourself. What were you going to do? Walk back to class and explain that Manjirou asked you to skip with him and you couldn't tell him no?
The boy keeps talking while Manjirou simply nods along. You watch him from the corner of your eye and wonder why he brought you along. Was he really just trying to treat you to some ice cream from all those years of bullying you? Manjirou's profile is as nice as his frontal. Two soft lips parted slightly, a strong nose, and droopy eyes framed by an arched browline.
You look away before he can catch you staring.
"Here we are," he announces, gesturing to the parlor in front of you.
"Did that assclown already order?" the boy asks, holding the door open for Manjirou.
Manjirou smiles, spotting said assclown on the only occupied table in this entire store. "Looks like."
There's another boy with sleek blond hair eating his weight in avocado pudding. There's green mush all over the corners of his scarred lips. You count out six empty glasses on the countertop with a facemask discarded on the side. Once he spots you all, he rises and takes a deep bow.
"Sorry we're late," Manjirou says by way of greeting.
The blond shakes his head. "You don't have to apologize," he insists. "I'm the one who should be sorry for eating before you."
You stare at the half-empty glass in front of him and try not to look as out of place as you feel.
"Ah, doesn't matter," Manjirou shrugs, reaching for the menu. You blink in surprise when he places it in front of you. "Ube soft serve with taiyaki is probably the best thing they sell here. Matcha's pretty good too," he mentions, then looks up at the two boys sitting across from you. "Oh. By the way, this is one of my classmates, y/n. Y/n this is Sanzu, and you already met Koko."
You look up to see them both staring right at you. You want to tell Manjirou that no, you haven't already met Koko, you briefly interacted with him while committing truancy. The looks on their faces stop any words from coming out of your mouth though. Sanzu has the longest, palest eyelashes you've ever seen on anyone. His blue eyes flash with a certain fervor you can't place. Koko's dark gaze is more focused and pierces right through you, like he's trying to figure out why Manjirou bothered bringing you here in the first place.
At the sudden silence, Manjirou sucks in a sharp breath. "Don't just stare at her."
Sanzu snaps out of whatever trance he was in and clears his throat. "I'm sorry." he bows his head again, "Please forgive me."
Koko simply nods over at you and scowls down at his own menu.
You don't know how to react, so you smile back at them and try to distract yourself with the ice cream flavors. You might just get a scoop of strawberry ice cream and call it a day. A server comes over to take your order.
"Another avocado parfait?" she asks, lifting an eyebrow at Sanzu.
"How'd you know?" he answers, shoveling the rest of it down his throat.
Koko rolls his eyes. "Let me get the peach sherbet in a waffle cone."
"Two ube soft serves with taiyaki," Manjirou says when the server looks over at him.
"And they'd better be fresh," Sanzu quips.
The server ignores him and looks at you with a smile. "And for you?"
You blink. You thought Manjirou had already ordered for you, so you're kinda stuck for a minute.
"Does she not speak?" Sanzu whispers to Koko.
Manjirou looks over at you. You feel like you're drowning because of how long you're taking. "What's up?" he asks, "Can't decide?"
"I was thinking the strawberry ice cream," you mumble.
"Aw, the ice cream sucks here," Koko says with no regards to the server's presence.
Manjirou nods. "I know I said we're getting ice cream, but literally anything else is better."
"You should try the raspberry sorbet," Sanzu suggests. "If you like fruit."
They brought you to an ice cream shop... but hate the ice cream here. You can't process any of that so you simply nod. "Okay. Can I have a scoop of raspberry sorbet, please?"
"Of course," the server says and walks away. You feel like getting up and following her. These guys are insane. You listen to them talk nonsense for a couple minutes as you try not the think about what on earth just happened. What the fuck is life?
The server brings your orders shortly and places them in front of each of you. You stare down at the small cup of raspberry sorbet with a tiny sprig of mint. The guys dig in immediately, while you scoop up a small spoonful into your mouth.
Manjirou glances over at you, mid-bite. "If you don't like it, we can go get strawberry ice cream somewhere else."
"It's fine," you mumble around another spoonful of raspberry sherbet and try not to think about the implications of what he'd just said.
Even though you’ve gone to the same school forever, you don’t know much about Manjirou Sano. All you know is that he’s a jerk who cuts class and sat behind you since kindergarten. On the rare days he’s present, he’s asleep and when he’s actually awake, he’s pulling at your pigtails.
But that was back then, now that you’re both in high school and your hair’s too short to pull, he entertains himself with snapping your bra strap.
You huff as you whip around. “Can you stop?”
Manjirou stares back at you with the same bored expression he always has. Upon further inspection, you notice his eyes look a bit more exhausted. More than any teenage boy should be.
He maintains direct eye contact as he reaches out for your other bra strap and pulls it up so high you think he’s about to lift you clean off your seat.
“No,” he answers, letting it stretch back down on your poor shoulder.
“Manjirou!” you cry.
“Y/n!” The teacher snaps, “Class is in session!”
“Yeah, y/n,” he mutters. “Shut the fuck up,”
So you burn in your seat and try to focus on the lecture while Manjirou continues to snap to his heart’s content. When the bell rings, your shoulder’s raw and red. You pull away and pack your things up as fast as you can.
“It’s thicker than before,” he remarks as you zip your bag up.
You turn back to him when you get up. “What?” You ask over your shoulder.
He yawns. “Your bra,” he clarifies, raking his lazy gaze on your body. He’s got his cheek propped up with a palm, giving you another appraising glance. “All of you, actually.”
TBC… ❤️🩹🤞🏻
Hopefully lol
