....I met Mr Pernell “Sweet Pete”(Not Pea. A journalist thought it was Pea and it stuck)Whitaker when I was a preteen speeding fast toward being an official teen. Historically I’ve had a giant mind, even though I wasn’t a giant in height, and maybe it was by default in order to survive. I spent my summers in Vegas attached to(my uncle by association)Hedgemon Lewis hip as if I were a troubled kid needing a mentor, but I wasn’t. I just needed something to do with my time away from LA. Everyday we’d hit the Top Rank Boxing Gym where he trained prize fighters. One day we walked in and I see this little man with gold teeth holding court-commanding, and for me at that moment it validated. I realized a giant mind could get me where my lack of height could never get me. He was 5’6, and Pound for Pound he was the best. And for the record, he was robbed. He beat Julio Cesar Chavez, Jose Ramirez and @oscardelahoya, so he’s 40-2 in my book.
