Man, i dont know wether everyone noticed this and im just dumb and oblivious or if im being completely delusional but i think im realising why Dutch trusted Micah so much even when Hosea and Arthur complained about it.

I think what he thought, was that this is going to be a similar scenario to many other gang members in the past when they first joined.

Im not sure but thinking about it, there are many people in the gang that i feel like when they joined, Hosea and Arthur weren't happy about, but they proved themselves to the gang and changed for the better so the older members accepted them.

Hell, this could have been the case with Arthur too. Hosea mentions he was a wild delinquent when they took him in but he changed and that makes me think that Hosea originally didnt want Arthur to join them, but Dutch saw something in this feral orphan, took him in and soon enough, even Hosea grew fond of him. Even came to love him as a son.

I feel like it took a lot of convincing from Dutch to let Arthur stay but when he did, and he saw the man Arthur became, Dutch probably started believing that there is good in everyone and everyone is capable of changing for the better if they are given the chance, that is of course, if he didnt already believe in that.

That is probably how we ended up with many of the gang members who cause a bit of trouble or aren't really contributing to the gang or just the ones Hosea and Arthur arent really fond of. Specific names that come to mind are Bill, Sean and Swanson. Now im definetely not saying i dislike these characters. Nor am i saying that Sean or Bill dont contribute or that Arthur and Hosea dislike Swanson or Sean or anything like that but you get the idea.

Dutch, to me, seems way more open to strangers and troubled people, good example of this is Sadie, he didn't even hesitate about taking her in, she was in trouble and needed help, he didn't care that he didn't know her and she could potentially figure out who they are and tell the law about them (she wouldn't do that of course but someone else could have been in her place, you know) or Maybe even Kieran, who used to be member of their a rival gang but people told Dutch he saved Arthurs life so he let him stay with them. Of course they didnt trust Kieran as much but just the fact that he let him live after, even more, he let him live AND stay with them when he clearly didnt't have to shows that he is way more trusting of strangers whereas Hosea and Arthur are way more protective of the people already in the gang, protecting them from these strangers.

Seems to me like Dutch saw Micah, says the man saved his life? I think? And thought: "there is some goodness inside this person, he just needs an opportunity and a place to change for the better, even if Arthur and Hosea dont agree and say i should cut him loose, what kind of person would i be, preaching about giving people who were wronged by their life and this country a second chance yet throwing this person away after messing up a few times. It took other people in this gang months, even years to change and they did change, Hosea and Arthur used to complain but now those people are a part of their family so why shouldn't i give this person a chance?"

This of course, could have been the case had Micah actually wanted to change from his habbits and break away from his past but i think it is clear that from his dialougue he is happy being just the way he is. He just kept telling Dutch he wants to change so Dutch would let him stay and and Dutch, believing him, dragged the whole gang to destruction because of this, because he put so much time and effort into trying to help, change and save someone who didn't need it

You mentioned before about Trelawny accidentally creating alternate universes so what are some examples of those? I can imagine one where they’re hybrids with their associated animals (I associate animals with most of the gang but I haven’t finished yet and I would love to talk about it) or an au where Hosea didn’t die or one where he was the leader or an au where Kieran survived and was more relevant during the later missions and things like that

Shout out to the Strange Man who is the same sort of pseudo-immortal trickster god as Trelawney and is entirely aware of how many times he has fucked up the rdr timeline. Trelawney is like his annoying little brother he turns up to stare at him in silent disappointment as Trelawney realizes how bad he has fucked up. The Strange Man has much more of a code about not interfering with timelines and prefers just being an omnipotent vague god-like figure who turns up around interesting people. This includes lecturing Trelawney about how stupid he is.

stopped Dutch and Hosea from picking up Arthur or ever forming a gang, believing everyone in the gang would have a better chance on their own. accidentally lead to AU where low honor Arthur was the leader of the Morgan Gang, and low honor Kieran is the leader of the O'Driscolls due to Colm being killed by Arthur.

Dutch dying in 1899 due to meddling somehow resulted in undead nightmare AU. rocks up in 1911 expecting to see John Marston living happily uncontacted by the bureau because the gang fell apart naturally and instead there's zombies everywhere and The Strange Man is waiting for him because Josiah Trelawney is in trouble.

Straight up told John he was from the future and what would happen if he went after Micah, which lead to the bureau contacting Micah to hunt down the rest of the gang AU after Micah killed Dutch over the Blackwater money. Micah, being evil, wiped out the entire Marston family.

Attempted to save everyone's lives in a rdr2 time loop style knowing when they were meant to die and doing small things like shouting at Sean to duck, keeping an eye on Kieran at the party, talking them out of the Saint Denis bank job. Butterfly effect resulted in others dying seemingly in their place eg. Molly getting taken by O'Driscolls and tortured to death, Javier being fatally shot, Jack being killed by Bronte because the gang couldn't pay him. Ended in Hosea being shot in the place of Grimshaw, which while Dutch immediately turned and killed Micah in revenge still drove him as insane with grief.

Trelawney thinking he was slick and telling Micah to work with Strauss for a cut of the debt money, resulting in Micah getting TB instead of Arthur. However, because Micah is generally grosser and in camp far more often it spreads through most of the VDL gang and they drop in the following months.

Good ending AU where the gang actually made it to Tahiti, Arthur didn't have TB, everyone was alive and happy farming mangoes and it was perfect but in being such a massive part of the VDL gang to ensure everything went perfect Trelawney forgot to meet his wife and then undid the timeline just to have her and his precious children back.

Vera’s Last Case

My blood sugar was back down a bit this morning, to 134. A little extra medicinal help worked, it seems.

After our coffee and brain games, we had some cheesy eggs with bacons bits, toast and jam for breakfast. We ate a little early because we planned to meet Nancy’s daughter, Kalen, for lunch.

After showering and dressing, Nancy spent some time playing piano while I scrolled through the internet on a quest for entertainment. Nothing much popped up, though there was plenty to avoid, at least in terms of continuing news about the Mango Moron.

We finally had our lunch with Kalen. It was about 1 p.m. at Johnny Ocean’s Grille, over in Oakway Center. After learning about it from a couple of church friends, we’ve eaten there quite a few times recently. Kalen had a salad, while Nancy and I got burgers and fries. Their fries are quite good, especially with ranch dressing for dipping.

After lunch we went by Target to get a new toaster. The old one takes forever. We also looked for some flannel sheets, since the one set we have is getting a bit worn. There were only three sets, all the same dark color, and not particularly appeaing. Now where else can we find sheets in this town?

Two packages were waiting on the front steps when we got home. One was cat food from Chewy and the other was soup mixes and flour from King Arthur. There was no mail in our box, but we learned later that the Post Office had taken the day off in honor of Jimmy Carter, whose funeral was today at the National Cathedral.

I passed on walking today, trying to give my foot a rest. I did leave a message for my PCP earlier in the day about the foot giving me problems, hoping I could get someone to check it out. Nothing heard back yet.

Got a call from Michael, one of the guys at the Tuesday night men’s meeting. He invited me to breakfast with him and another fellow tomorrow morning to celebrate my 38 years of recovery. I’m meeting them at a coffee place over in The Whit, a well-known neighborhood in Eugene.

Because we were still full from our big, late lunch, we only had some pita chips and hummus for our evening snacks. Along with a chocolate chip cookie, too.

For the evening’s streaming we started with Colbert’s Wednesday show, with guests Alan Cumming and Diane Morgan. Diane is best known these days for playing Philomena Cunk, a sadly misinformed character narrating shows on history. Then came the second episode in the fourth series of “Vienna Blood,” which ended with the accidental shooting of Max Liebermann.

We closed out the evening with the final episode of “Vera,” the long-running series starring Brenda Blethyn in the title role. The series is based on the novels by Ann Cleeves, the author also responsible for the books on which the TV series “Shetland” is based. We always hoped there would be more “Vera” when each series wrapped, but now the end has come.
